Let's use this thread to talk about our pets, or animals we would like to have as a pet. I would like a lemur! They're so cute, with the stripes on their tails and huge eyes!

Anyway...have you ever noticed how people use funny voices to talk to their pets? Isn't it funny! Well, when I talk to my cat Taffy, I talk in a really high-pitched voice, but when I talk to my boy cat Gizmo, I talk in a scratchy voice. It's funny that I started calling him 'handsome' for some reason, so whenever someone says a word that starts with 'ha-', Giz looks around to see who's talking about him!

Hehehe...^_^ My cats' names are Hobbes and Rascal. (I usually call Rascal 'kitty', though..O_O) Once, Uncle Theo (I hate him...) got Hobbes drunk, and made him dance to 'Hey Jude'....>_<

We have four cats. ;D Donut, Disco, Noodle, and Hollywood ( named after that Halo game for xbox ). They only interact with you if you talk to them like babies or if you're yelling. Otherwise they just completely ignore who ever is talking to them. So, yeah, baby talk. Goo goo. :p

I have a cat and a dog. :redbiggri Even tho the cat's male, I've always talked to him in a high pitched voice, and I usually say the same phrases to him aswell like "What are you dddooiing?" and "You little babbbyy", even tho he's 3 now I think, I'll always call him a baby. :p I talk in a strange voice to my dog, not gonna go into that, it's kinda weird. o_O

Awww, that's so cute, do they get little party hats? XD

Hehe that reminds me, last time my parents had some friends over, they brought some glow ring things that you put around your neck. My mum put one on my dog and he looooooved it. :P

I have a dog, a XL size Golden retriever and I'm used to speak him like he is a human so he I guess he thinks himself as a human, but he never responds thats smt. weird he should have learned how to speak, at least say hi, hello by now, it's been 8 years, geez.

hehehe, it'd be really interesting if pets could talk. Then we'd finally be able to understand what they desire whenever they start moaning and screaming at you....

As for me, I've got a black lab for a pet :) my family and i have had him for about 2 years now, and I too always acknowledge him with a condescending voice...it just seems to be the way all people approach things which we percieve as cute. I'ts said to assist in the very way in which we humans acquire language, for when we are children, our parents and other adults speak to us in a high-pitched, patronising way. This elaboration on the phonetics of words enables us, as babies, to discern between the different syllables and word sounds, observe the responses to certain words judging from facial expressions and so eventually begin to develop the ability to speak the language ourselves!
...maybe this is applied to our pets because we all consider them as our metaphorical offspring.......

Anyway, I also have loads of nicknames which I calll my dog. His name is Guinness, I also call him:
guinny, guinny-winny, bubbles, gorgeous, baby, guinny-babe, guinny-baby, goojaboo, guinnowles, a gorgeous bubble of babies.

WHEE! I'm so happy people actually replied to this thread! Anyway, I threw parties for my pets when they turned one, but after that I forgot their birthdays, and no one else in my family remembered them either, so we can't have parties anymore! But Taffy and Giz just assume that Christmas (and any other holidays that involve wrapping paper) are special days just for them, since we let them destroy the paper and run around with ribbons stuck to them. Yep, they're weird ^^

How...charming! ^__^ (Truth be told, I only remember MY pets' birthdays because they're on the same date as my aunt Kim's b-day..Which I can hardly remember anyway...o_O)

IRT Chiapet: hehe, yeah the same thing happens with my Guinny-babe. Whenever there's any birthday/christmas/anything that involves paper, we just gather the wrappings into a big ball, throw it at him.....and he's occupied for for the next 5 hours :redbiggri

As for pet birthdays, it's quite wierd actually, for Guinness's birthday is on the same day as my younger brother's birthday, and Guinness's older brother (another black lab owned by our relatives) has the same birthday date as MY birthday!! A remarkable coincidence if I do say so myself!

Aww...how cute! There's chocolate for dogs? That is one of the wierdest things I have ever heard when it comes to things for animals...that and a cage you can put your *inside* cats in *outside*, so they freak out and run around in circles. (gosh some people are so wierd) RAIJ: As for that birthday thing, that is an extreme coincedence! (pardon my mis-spelled words!) My best friend (the person, not the cat^^) Sarah has the same birthday as her little brother. That's one heck of a birthday present!

back to the whole "if animals could talk," im not so sure dog owners would really want their dog sweet talking them while being humped by said canine.
