I've been able to use the PSP that belongs to some of my friends, and I think it's a great portable gaming console. Share your ideas and opinions about the PSP!

p.s. Does anyone have any games to recommend in the PSP? Also, I've heard that there's a web browser function if you buy the game Wipeout Pure, since it needs the web browser for updates? I'm not 100% sure on this, and it would be great if anyone cleared things up! =)

it look way better than the ds. the price is high, but it is hand held, with ps2 graphics, and plays movies, mps and the screen size. so its cool. the ds sucks cause n64 graphics and ps2 graphics hmm ps2 sounds better. then i have seen like 5 ds games and the touch screen in those games suck so bad. another thing is that sony is getting a lot of offers to make games for the psp and the ds isn't getting as many so what is going to have better games. to me sounds like the psp is worth 250 or w/e it costs

Homeboy got one, came with Petey Pablo Vibrated video and spider man to watch. Also came with ape escape... that monkey game where you can box -__- hmmm it comes with a memory stick that you can upgrade and carry jpeg and mp3 .. You can read manga on it and I thinks you can go online with the right stuff..

well my battery lasts for 12 hrs straight,other last 8-11. I recommend(if tons of your friends have it)buy twisted metal. like speed get need for speed. then of cousrse midnight club 3 is coming out and so is a gta. BUT! if you havent played spiderman 2 i recommend it because it lets you get used to the tiny joystick.

Uzichida Cantameru did u get twisted metal yet? Yea twisted metal is awesome. The thing about the PSP is that it is very sensitive. When u buy it u should get some good acessories with it like personally Power Brick, Logitech Playgear Pocket, 1 GB Stick, Brado Screen Protector (must have). All these acessories are needed to keep the PSP and running for a good long time. But the bad part is that it ends up costing u the price of about another PSP (around $212.00). Yea but I saved up quite a while and i feel that it was a better investment to get a PSP than a Nintendo DS. The games for the PSP are actually quite good also and some future ones will be fantastic. Also the PSP is coming out with a internet browser, and some things that r like an organizer, possible cell phone capabilites, and a possible camera hook-up.

what zero wind said yes camera is coming, web browser, basically its going to be a mini computer eventually. For the better of all of us get the bundle pack if you can saves u around 80-100$(just the 4 xtra items it has)otherwise just wait or have your mama or papa pay for the xtras.

yea i have both ^_^ i enjoy ds a bit more because i can pick it up and play wario ware inc. for when i have a couple min. But psp has better design graphics. music.video. you can put bleach manga on it, etc... so if ds doesnt step it up they will be owned by psp.

The PSP also has wireless capabilities, so you can search for other psp's with the same game for up to about the distance of 2 rooms. That's what I like about it.

Also, on a side note, I hear they're working on something so that the wi-fi people can chat with each other too, adding a communication system to the PSP.

Can anyone tell me what the Wi-fi does and how much it cost to connect to the server so i can go on-line with the psp. Im getting A psp soon.....

At the moment Wi-Fi does not cost anything. Wi-fi allows you to connect with other PSP's or a server through an access point. An access point is a router that connects to the internet. Also if u are a clumsy person buy the warrenty and exchange the PSP if there are any dead pixels or anything that is wrong with the screen.

yesterday was the official lauch of psp in HK... and since my brother ordered one in, we'll go and get it this weekend!!

i'm completely hopeless at video games, but i love watching other ppl play... and i bought the bleach psp game a while ago (yes, even before my bro ordered his psp x_x) so i'm so excited that i'm gonna see the game in action this weekend...

and yes we have heard certain rumors about a certain 'corner' on the screen is 'problematic' (might not light up? not sure what that means...)on the psp... so we will check very carefully when we get the console this weekend...

The PSP is ok i guess, ive heard that it has had a problem with alot of systems having dead cells but other than that its cool, i like MGS for it and i think that the best part of it is that you can store music and play videos. Other than that i think the DS is a much more efficient gaming console, and seeing as how i have an ipod theres no reason for me to get a PSP.

But the PSP is an impressive piece of machinery...
U can download ur games from the internet and play them off ur memory card,
listen to amazing quality music and crisp video, and bright pics.
The games I would recommend are:

i have psp video 9 and psp video express and neither detect the files when i try to load them up

Ive heard Daxter is pretty good, and the new Ratchet & Clank game should be decent. I dont know, the PSP doesnt have enough games to warrant a purchase for me. Is it worth it?

^^ If you dont already have some kind of picture, music, and movie all in one device then yes since you can do all that plus play games and have unlimited ammount of space by buyin more memory sticks...its pretty much the best thing I own portable wise

I just dont see the point of getting a PSP over a DS, unless of course you really want a way to watch movies and listen to music while your out. I consider it to be a gaming device, and in my opinion its really lacking in that area.

Metal Gear Solid Portable really looks good...Yeah I've got a PSP, I basically use it for everything but I have to admit its too chunky to be a MP3 player. you're literally the first person i've heard of who's sold back a GBA. to be frank while having a DS/PSP is nice i've spent way more time on my GBA.

actually it's called an "exploit" but Rockstar never knew about until they actually found out (somehow) and they released a patched version later on but you can tell the difference between them

"Patched" (means that the one on the Right) is a fixed version it does not have the exploit

The left one, you can use the Fanjitas eboot launcher from your GTA: LCS Save menu to play emulators (that what the exploit was for on a Firmware Ver. 2.01 and above)

and btw, is there any good flash games?

i kind of wonder if booster is working on a newer devhook to emulate the newest 3.10. i hate the idea of flashing even though everyone else swears by the use of CFW. personally i don't mind using devhook because i can afford to lose a little bit of space on my ms.

i'm not entirely certain how good the flash player is on the PSP. i tried playing one of those mk vs. sf flash movies that was saved on my ms, but i was getting not-enough-memory errors.

you can adjust the screen but I put it on the normal setting because with full screen, the picture will be widescreen and everything will be stretched.

psp wallpapers are normally 480x272 resolution. finding pictures like that aren't too difficult (pspwallpapers.com). i don't see anything wrong with simply turning off the PSP while in-game. as far as i know the only way of ruining a PSP is if you're messing with the flash memory and you have no clue what you're doing. maybe the guy said it's bad because it's a bad idea to immediately turn off the PSP when the UMD disc laser is still running.........

I have a PSP and use it to browse the web around the house and other hotspots, grab and listen to/watch podcasts, and Tekken DR is the best one soo far. Aside from that one game though, I haven't found anything that's held my interest for long.

Well I am quite the fan of the GTA series but basing off gameplay length and replay value, VCS > tekken. Tekken will be more fun at first but it wont last long, seeing most fighter based games don't.

tekken DR is very fun. even when just playing against the computer. now that i think about it, both GTA and tekken are good pick-up-and-go games. i'd recommend both, but GTA if you want replay value.

don't know about online stores, maybe try eBay, since that's the only international one I know, Im pretty sure it's not that xpensive anymore now, since it's pretty old already

putting high hopes on something that was Sony's first time around doing......bad idea. as is, the PSP is great IMO. decent games so far, and some better ones coming out soon. what are you worried about? ALL PSP GAMES ARE REGION FREE. no need to worry about whether it should work or not :) and i know this because i bought Bleach Heat the Soul 2 and works on my PSP.

in other words, regardless of what region game you buy it'll still work on any PSP.

all games work on all PSPs. but yes UMD movies are the ones that are region specific (aka region 1 umds will ONLY WORK ON region 1 PSPs).

OE-A/B is a custom firmware coded by Dark_Alex. simply put, its a hacked version of 3.02 w/ homebrew capibilities. It features a no-umd mod, regionless umd playback, WMA playback, as well as all the basic functions of previous firmwares up to 3.02. the biggest reason to install this is for the Playstaion emulator, which allows full speed playback of PSX games.

1. ok seriously you've got to stop being so paranoid. nothing bad will happen if you play on your PSP while charging.

2. something bad will happen to your PSP during the firmware upgrade process ONLY IF you turn off your PSP while new firmware is being installed. this is why it's recommended to have the battery pack (at least 90% charged) in the PSP AS WELL AS have AC power plugged in.

3. downgrading is safe as long as you follow the directions AND apply the same precautions as upgrading firmware (e.g. have battery pack in PSP along with AC power plugged in).

on the other hand, if you have the means of actually buying the games you want to play, then by all means take advantage of that.

i wasted the whole battery playing Gradius on my PSP it's normal so don't worry about it, you cna buy another battery as a back up if you want. Go to playasia.com the sell Mega/Super batteries which last longer that the original psp battery

i wouldn't recommend buying third party batteries. i'm pretty certain IGN Games did a test of 3rd party brands and they didn't last as long as they advertised. the newer sony battery that gives 20% more battery life on the other hand might be a good bet. 5-6 hr battery life for a PSP is normal because you also have the UMD drive working against you.....which takes some power also.

you might be referring to the idea that the battery will prove less effective the more you charge it, and that's normal. but taking into consideration the fact that the PSP's battery is NiMH, those last MUCH longer than regular run-of-the-mill rechargeable batteries.

what's NiMH btw?

NiMH refers to Nickel metal hydride which essentially makes for better battery technology. as i said before, a normal rechargeable battery will eventually die on you the more you recharge it, but since the PSP uses those special NiMH batteries recharging the battery won't have as big of a negative impact compared to older model rechargeable batteries, which is why sony decided to use those.

in other words, don't get worried about always having to recharge the PSP's battery.

For those with at least 3.03 firmware, you will need to downgrade.

If you are pretty computer illiterate, there are easy installers that you can use to install that particular version for you.

it might be just you. while it's possible to rip an iso FROM a UMD, there's no method of burning an iso TO a UMD. thusly, no blank UMD exists in retail stores......unless there's something i'm unaware of.............

can anyone walk me through on how to install a theme for CFW? i'm following the generalized instructions on how to install them, but when i reboot my PSP with the theme files installed, my PSP always crashes just when XMB icons are just about to show up.

PSP is awesome and all but I seem to have a problem with it, whenever I turn it on only the green power light is turned on the Screen stays blank and turns off by itself in about 10 seconds later. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it because I wanna play it really bad =(, No I didn't drop it or anything like that.

battery power? take your battery out for a few minutes, then put it back in (analogous to power cycling). try turning on your PSP strictly with the ac adapter plugged in. charge your PSP's battery while you sleeping...

i'm going on the assumption that you haven't been messing with the PSP's flash memory, in which case i hope my suggestions will help you out.

no offense taken. i'm one of those people who has the best of both worlds. there's no questioning the originality of the DS games out there. especially with the release of Phantom Hourglass, the DS is the thing to have. i like the fact that the DS has a bunch of puzzle games. i intend on getting planet puzzle league soon after having tried the demo at fry's.

but lately there have been quite a few good stuff released for the PSP even though they seem average to the eyes of those professional critics. ff2 having came out recently along with Brave Story new traveler, those are some good rpg's to whet your appetite before crisis core ff7 comes out. personally i'm looking forward to FF dissidia and loco roco 2 as well. plus two new games in particular: syphon filter logan's shadow and wipeout pulse. some excellent stuff coming out.

No not really, the PS2 is still the highest selling console even now in the next generation and actually PSP is actually coming back with its price drop and the fact some real good games are coming soon like Crisis Core and God of War.

The DS can also play music, videos and browse the internet, when you modify it though (not actually modify but just a normal cartridge [ex: R4])

The PSP sure is getting lotsa good games this year.

Hopefully Dissidia -Final Fantasy- will see the light outside of Japan, since that is the one (and probably only) game I would want to buy a PSP for, as of now.

A lot of the older FFs are being remade for the PSP and DS, since handheld systems are relatively cheaper to design for compared to home systems like the PS3, Wii, and 360.

If anything, I'm hoping for a remake of FFVI.

If you mean good GBA rpgs theres: Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Boktai, Zelda the Minish Camp. Not sure if you have Golden Sun 2 but if not it's a good RPG too.

Monster Hunter Freedom-It's a hit or miss with most people, freedom 2 is out soon so check videos of that.

Final Fantasy I & II - They've been improved a little with some nice visuals but it's best not to pick them up if you've played and/or beat the before. (I and II are sold seperatly not as a single UMD with them both on)

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth- Dont know too much about this game but theres a video review here (http://uk.media.psp.ign.com/media/788/788783/vids_1.html)

Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - Eh, if you like hack and slashy games then you'll probably find this enjoyable. Just follows the same line as games similar to it; go out, kill things, earn enough to buy armor and get better, kill more things.

There are more like: Breath of Fire, Tales of Eternia but it's too late now and i'm not going to make a giant list >.<

as mentioned above VP Lenneth can be a fun game provided you know what you're doing. the combo-based fighting engine works well, and the game is relatively difficult (well for me at least....heck i haven't even beaten it myself yet...)

Brave Story New Traveler - The main character is a kid? Wtf? Anyways the plot... hmm... I have a feeling I played an RPG like this already. I really get irritated when they attack because they make the same noises everytime they attack. I'll play later when I feel like it.
VP Lenneth - Already have it. Been playing quite a bit and its not bad, I'm still at my noob state so yeah. Its also sad how the voice actors can't act but oh well...

seems odd...considering there's a downgrader for firmware 3.50....there's one particular requirement though. let's just say hopefully you own an official Lumines UMD.

provided you have a Lumines UMD (the first game...not the second one) make you read the instructions perfectly. the above link is applicable to PSP's with firmware 3.10 all the way to 3.50. DO NOT DO A NETWORK UPDATE OR ELSE YOU'LL WIND UP WITH OFFICIAL 3.52 FIRMWARE WHICH DOESN'T HAVE A DOWNGRADER FOR IT.

Yup. Having a modded PSP is so awesome ;) I downgraded my PSP using an unpatched copy of Lumines. Now I'm trying to sell it. Its funny how when it first came out no one really wanted it and ever since Noobz released a downgrader that needed Lumines, its a really hard game to find because of the high demand.

I own both portable gaming consoles. I just play my DS more than my PSP. Since you can also put games, videos, musics, images and custom wallpaper when you buy the the custom cartridges (r4, supercard, etc.) its like a custom PSP firmware just the same. I like the games on the DS more but thats my opinion.

PSP has a lot of new game releases that are pretty good this time :) but if you had to choose from a PSP or a Wii get a Wii :)

whatever is your cup of tea......quite a few RPG's for the PSP now which is nice because i'm starting to get into the whole rpg craze. i've been using my PSP just for that.......and actually Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is pretty good which is a huge accomplishment considering it's on a portable console. dragoneer's aria and jeanne d'arc have just been released and i heard those were pretty good as well. not to mention there's still ff tactics the war of the lions to look forward to.

and if you're into emulation instead just buy yourself a regular ms for your PSP and put on the necessary emulators you want. sure you can do it on DS as well, but the problem is having to actually buy a special cart and such to do it.

FFVII: Crisis Core *drool* I just downloaded Dragoneer's Aria. Its not bad. Its a bit cheesy and the main character is kinda queer, everything else is ok.

@Viera: If you buy one from a store now. Theres a good chance that you might get a PSP with firmware 3.51 which means you won't be able to use homebrew.

1st statement: that's pretty much it. the game itself is really nice graphics-wise considering it's a PSP rpg, but the questing aspect of the game is pretty shallow IMO. so far for me it's pretty much been a crapload of fetch-quests and killing-certain-amount-of-monsters quests. in the game's defense though, i haven't really played that much of the game yet.

your question: if i'm not mistaken, CC is supposed to be an action RPG. someone will need to confirm this though. i hate the fact that S-E is being ridiculously hush-hush about this game.

heh. i like knowing the fact that my PSP is non-ta-082 even though it's irrelevant at this point. my good ol' PSP loaded with 3.40 OE-A firmware has saved my a shitload of money on games which is nice since i'm a college student and need the money i earn for essentials.

in any case, i will still probably get PSP v2. to be honest it actually looks pretty damn nice. the video output is really tempting, especially if it's possible to do video output WHILE playing a game. i can just imagine seeing what it's like playing DJ Max Portable 1-2, GRAW 2, Bleach Heat the Soul 4, etc. on my 40" widescreen tv. i guess it's gonna be pretty irrelevant though if we can't video output while playing a game.....

technically speaking you can call it an "operating system" for the PSP. basically it adds functionality to the PSP much like how new OS's for computers add new functionality for the end-user.

as i mentioned before though, if the v2 PSP's come with the same mobo specifications as the current PSP's there's a good chance of being able to downgrade them so that we can install CFW's. chances are sony isn't that stupid, but there was a site i went to that's hinting at the possibility...

If you have a 3.52 official firmware, there might be a way to downgrade it but you might have to actually brick your PSP in order to do so. Go google Pandora battery or something.
