just wanted to know and spit out my thoughts about the existance of the 13 divisions of soul society, i mean why pick the number 13????? to me i thought it was kind of strange and confusing, or is there a mystery behind it, since in some cases people believe 13 is an unlucky number, so yeah .

what about ur thoughts on this topic, why have 13 divisions in soul society???

13 is both an 'unlucky' number in superstition, but some people also think of it as a 'holy' number. The jewish 13 'holy warriors' is one example, the number is used in christianity a few times. *shrugs* or they coulda pulled the number out of a hat? I dont know lol. If someone knows, post it =)

No, Mayuri has taken over his job as a captain.

btw, I do not think it is strange to have 13 divisions in Soul Society.

13 is nice when you deal with souls and what not. Plus the number drags and reeks of symbolism like a motha..

plus if you add the one and three in thirteen together, you get four, and isn't four an unlucky number in japanese because the word for it (shi i think) is the same word as death? or maybe im just putting too much thought into it.

yes, it is the more the better. because doesn't the shinigami have assigned spots in the human world where they fight hollows? and if theres thirteen divisions and each shinigami covers a different area then it works out fine. and there are soo many hollows that you need a ton of shinigami.

my, my such a true aspect some replies, such as how i didn't know that the number 4 is actually an unlucky numer in japan since it means death, looking back at that, i also notice that that bit about adding 1 and 3 to get number 4 and how it relates to death, it is still a point to how bleach is about death and all and that four (death) might relate to that.

Also i agree to how there should be 13 division to cover the whole aspects of hollows appearing, but i wonder how many it takes to cover the whole world?>???? i mean surely 13 division is not enough to cover the four corners of the world, so there has to be mre, or is 13 divisions situated in japan only???

thanxs for the reply

I do not think that there's need for thousands of Shinigami to annihilate the hollows on earth, after all not all of the hollows are like Grand Fisher or any other powerful Hollow, if we look back what happened when Ishida called them with a bait, Ishida and Ichigo pwned nearly hundreds of them.

Thirteen divisions makes for a ton of shinigami, if you ask me. What, do you think, that there is just one in each? Haha...
