Zanpakutou question/something...

Is it maybe possible that shinigamis are reincarnated as Zanpakutous? Stupid question, I know, but when we saw Ichigo's Zanpakutou in that little messed up world thing, he was dressed like one. So Zanpakutous have souls at least, right? Anyway, that also brings me to wonder if there is an alternate reality that the souls of Zanpakutous live in....

All of this is probably proved or disproved in the manga, although I haven't read that, so I wouldn't know. Anyway, have fun telling me how wrong or right I am :headbang:

thats an interesting theory, but zangetsu looked like he was in a trench, not shinigami robes. perhaps when shinigamis die they lose the robes and become zanpaktou. IMO the tip off to that would be if you hear "kuukaku" in the title of a zanpaktou. ya never know, that may be where shiba's older brother is now... and why he was so happy while dying.

Well, for humanoid souls in Zanpakutou, a theory like heroic sacrifice or criminal punishment could work.

(Like imprisoning a pscyhotic murder into a sword for punishment, or making a noble hero imbued into a sword so his legacy can live on) but then we have souls like Zanbimaru...

I never really thought about how the souls get there until I saw this thread. Nice question XD

I thinnk that Zampakutos gains souls just like humans are born, About the criminal things they do have feelings and criminals would probubly not care if they wernt listoned to as long as your cleaving your enomy like zaraki.

hehe what a creative idea ^_^ that would be cool if shinigamis could become zanpakutous... but i think it's more like zanpakutous have a ould of their own that meshes with the holder, but not necessarity human ones... at least that's my guess.

BUT i think zangetsu may well have been a shinigami, (i.e. training for bankai) he's so strong, even zabimaru wants a return match with him.

i'm not sure this is related, but it is a very common thing for weapons like swords, knifes, spears, etc, especially if they are powerful, in chinese fantasy fictions to have names, and many of them also have a 'will' or 'personality' of their own... and yes in some cases the user/owner of such weapon would 'talk' to them, aloud or in their mind, in order to acheive something we called 人劍合一 or 'union with one's blade' (lit. man-sword-together-one)...

so yeah, i love the idea of all zanpakuto having a 'soul' or 'spirit' ^^ and would love to find out more about the rest of the zanpakuto's spirit... eg i always picture benihime as a elegant but slightly shy japanese princess dressed in traditional kimono... ^^

In the episode where Ichigo finds his own power, the sword came from within his own body, its like the sword is apart of him, where his power comes from.

Yea, I agree. Also when he is about to be turned into a hollow, he gets pulled into another world, which is inside of him (this is where his soul slayer and someone else lives...can't tell you who though, or else that might spoil something.) I'd say that it's possible for everyone in the Bleach world to have the potential of becoming a shinigami, but that is just me.

that could just be the only way that his soul slayer could "speak" to him. then again, the same thing was done in naruto when he first MET kyuubi.

This is a very interesting thread. We all have to agree that a zanpaktou definitely has a soul and a sense of self. It makes sense on one hand, if a shinigami dies, his sould would go somewhere beyond the soul asylum, and maybe that place is into a soul slayer, which then eventually becomes the zanpaktou of some death god who most closely resembles the sword in characteristics. It especially makes sense for someone like Ichigo, because he lacks complexity in his personality and fighting style, but also has tremendous offensive power, which is why his zanpaktou is a pure blade. But there is also the possibility that we are all just making stuff up because its awesome, and zanpaktou are just their own set of entities. I mean, they could just be their own species.
