View Full Version : Should we keep set subclasses?

Having discussed with Odanion on MSN, we have decided to put a poll to the players.

There are two options:

The first is to put Shinigami into sub-classes.

This would mean that when you create your character, you would choose between being Zanjutsu, Hohou, Kidou or Hakuda sub-class. You might be allowed to pick one additional sub-class later on. Players would then choose techniques only from the list assigned to their subclass.

The benefits of this system:
We can give slight stats differences between each subclass, giving Zanjutsu shinigami more HP, for example.
This makes the RPG more realistic and detailed.

The disadvantages of this system:
It is more complicated.
It means that there are fewer techniques available to each player (only 25% of the total).
It means that you have less freedom to develop your character.

The second is to remove the Shinigami Sub-classes

This would mean hat you would simply choose a "Shingami" character. Kidou, Zanjutsu, Hohou and Hakuda would be the names of the separate technique lists, but players would have the freedom to buy techniques from any of these at will.

The benefits of this system:
It is simpler.
It means far more techniques are available to each player.
It allows each character to be slightly more unique.

The disadvantages of this system:
It is less realistic, as those who say they had trained as a fighter will not have a forced difference in stats from those who have trained as a healer.
It makes the RP less detailed.

So, please vote, and post any thoughts you have below.
Poll will close in 1 day.

bwahaha...I just went against what I said on msn...I think we should not make a difference...this makes every style more appealing to everyone...meaning that the kidou users will not be super weak in hp and what not...so i think we should just trash the sub classes :p

Well,I've always been a fan of classing instead of being able to do everything so,I say keep it.

I have to say, I have now voted for the simpler option, because I think it gives players more freedom...

I voted for "No, simply use the subclass names as names for the technique lists". because it gives more customizing, players can fight and get skills after what they like and what they want.

Yep - I voted 'no' too - it gives much more variety in players as every character will be different, gives them much more freedom, does away with complicated multiclassing and means we don't have to write billions of techniques for there to be easily enough for everyone.

I voted to get rid of them as well.
It's simpler. Easier to coprehend (no classes, no multiclassing, extreeme customization etc) and...
If a player wants a fighter he can always choose the apropriate techs. If he wants a mage he can do likewise. If he want's an in between character that's easy as well. Remember that the more powerful techs. will require prerequisites (sp) so evryone will go to some sort of speciality in time.

Also we can introduce HP boosting techs. if there's such a prob...

And of course I agree with what evryone who voted 'no' has already said.

A word of warning however: With this way players may be able to create unbalancing characters if we're not careful with the techs...

Cheers,

Perhaps, but it saves the difficulty of trying to ensure that all subclasses are equally strong...

if we do the freedom thing, we should definetly make armor or other stuff having stat requirements

Are we gonna use armor in a Bleach RPG?!?! Or were you speaking about Armor Class?

I most definately don't wanna see armor in this rpg.

I voted no too. It'll be simpler and less detailed and specific, giving the player more chances and less restriction on what to do, adding more freedom, and more people will enjoy it. And unique-ness is a factor. We dont want every player to be the same or it'll get boring quickly.

i voted no. even tho it sounds good to have subclasses to help define characters, it's a little too complicated. this way we can get the rp started quickly and have more freedom in developing new things later on.

I think that we should have sub classes and then be able to pic a secondary sub-class later on that way no one is too powerful

no one would be overpowered...because even though you can take anything...you still need the stats for it...AND you still need to waste points of yours on those techniques etc. that way you CAN'T get everything for all class types

I'm not sure an open poll was the way to deal with this - if we go by the results of the poll, we're gonna have all the GMs against and a few players for it. I haven't seen a single GM say they want subclasses, and we're supposed to be running this thing, so I say just do away with them and bad luck to those who voted against doing away with them =D. At least discount the votes of people who didn't post reasons.

Well... it seems that we shall be doing away with the set subclasses as a slim majority is in favour of this. As itsovernow suggested I will close the thread; everyone who wanted to has had a chance to vote :)
