Kanji are easy, but only once you know them, and there are nearly 2000 Kanji in common use, most with at least 2 readings.

I reccomend the "Japanese for Busy People" series for Japanese Language learning in Hiragana and Katakana (the phonetic 'alphabets') and a separate Kanji course.

Seriously, we can see Jerry Springer on TV and all of the other stupid talk shows nearly uncensored at 10 AM, but anime gets put on at 2 AM? I never understood that.

Well it's mainly Hiragana with kanji. I can handle kanji because I'm chinese. Kanji is just chinese except for a few which are simplified. Sometimes you get the odd Katakana character coming up.

Alot of anime is butchered, yes, but that is because US has different standards then japan. all the older politicians see these new violent cartoons, and there parents screaming about all the horrible stuff on TV, so they do what they think is best, and make laws against the cartoons.

Also, anouther reason alot of anime is shown so late is that, right now, anime is not a huge money maker. most kids like the cornier type cartoons. and since TV companies are about makin money, they put on their big shows prime time. lucky of us, Cartoon Network understands that their are alot of us out here, and since noone else shows anime, we lust for it. so they put it up and alot of people jump right on it.

I love watching romance anime because of the fact it usually involves comedy and a pretty good storyline. And no not that hentai stuff.

If you liked Onegai Teacher, you should try watching Onegai Twins. It takes place in the same world and the characters from Onegai Teacher all make cameos as well as have things to do with the new characters.

As others said, I like the storylines as well. You just don't find too many intresting storys in american animation as with Anime. Example, Ed,Edd, and Eddy?! What is that!? Catscratch? I fell in love with anime when I first saw Akira, drawings were so details. Story was great. That is pretty much my two biggest reasons.

The ending for Mahoromatic Season 2 and Saikano is just poor....
Saikano was confusing and depressing to no end, last i actually read a full review of the episode to know that what happened was she destroyed the whole world...

I agree....I can read both Katakan and hiragan but for some odd reason I get stumped trying to write some of them o.O weird huh?! I guess its just lack of practice. jap is some hard language to learn..not only must u learn the pronounciation which isnt pronounced like you read it Ex Ashita, doushita, wakarimashita among others, u have to learn how to read Kanji and their kon/on readings and of course the freakin slang they use

IMO I beleive that the anime series beats Evangelion by far and wide. Evangelion had a crappy ending, everyone was psychotic and the whole series left a lot of questions unanswered. I agree that when I first saw I it I was amazed and it had great potential but after EP 20 or so everything went downhill. It didnt make sense. None of it.
Now Rahxhephon answers all the questions it proposes. The ending gives closure and yes I do beleive it was made to mock Evangelion as the first EP we here someone saying "All is right with the world, eh?" :headbang:

RahXephon really wasn't that good. While I do enjoy Evangelion quite a bit, it has its faults, Hideki Anno being severely depressed while writing it. As I understand, it was also limited to one season about halfway through the production and the rest of the series was rushed.

Really, I find it hard for RaXephon to be making fun of any other series when it seems to make fun of itself so well. It answers all of the questions it proposes? Hardly. The entire series is an acid trip with a slapped on justification at the end.

And the justification?

Bahbam did it.

And the manga is even worse, as it suffers from boobs obsession syndrome.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a BAD anime, per se (at least for awhile), but the storytelling is atrociously overdone and by the time you are done you get the feeling you just watched some pretentious hack's magnum opus.

By the time they start "explaining" things, entire anime reeks of acid and overdone plotlines.

I think that Raxephon is much better than Eva. I watched both animes. As vittorio said Raxephon answers all questions it proposes unlike Eva. However, character-wise I feel that Eva was far superior (Even though I felt shinji should just die :P). The characters in Raxephon were too fake.

It really is sad that the voice-over suck, but it can't be helped. the cultures are so different that anime loses credibility (generally speaking) when dubbed in english. I think jap voices with english/w/e language u know subtitles are good enough and you learn some japanese in the process, if you feel like it.

It was Pokemon for me, then I started watching recorded videos of DBZ because I couldn't wake up early enough and started wanting anime. And then I watched Gundam Wing and now I'm hooked.

i'd say evangelion has the absolute worst ending. its all action and everything is picking up and then they you this crappy ending that answers nothing
then there's gundam seed and seed destiny that gives a finish with the bad guy is dead and goes boom, but doesn't conclude the story itself.. what happens next?

have to agree with moneybags, i had watched all of lunar's subed episodes which only went to 10, recently i just watched the last three episodes and i may as well have not bothered, no story progression at all, even the end is rubbish it clears up nothing. I honestly do hope that there was a 14th episode i missed because otherwise the anime was a large waste of time (with fantastic animation, but still a waste of time)

the only problem i have with english dubs is the editing... the way they omit any blood or reference to anything sexual.. its kinda sayin 'we don't want children seeing that' when it is clearly not for children.

English voices are also really cartoony... Not all (Cowboy Bebop.. like teamninja60 said) some are really done well.
Anime dubbed in french (I think) are more 'to the point', serious and direct translations of techniques, places or whatver actually sound convincing.

Maybe because Anime is more than just a big buck or trend to french enthusiasts/fans...

Escaflowne is too violent to put next to Pokemon and Digimon and all thos other kids' anime. They ahd been playing it later, but if you download it instead of watching it on TV is better. The voice acting is much better and they edited out a ton of blood from the TV version.

I am currently looking for Rurouni Kenshin, Outlaw Star, and Gundam Wing.. and ALL they have is either .ogm, .mkv, or the dubs. .Ogms and .mkvs seem to take much more space than .AVIs, and I just prefer using .avis MUCH more. Does anyone know how to convert them or get them in .avi?

IMO I beleive that the anime series beats Evangelion by far and wide. Evangelion had a crappy ending, everyone was psychotic and the whole series left a lot of questions unanswered. I agree that when I first saw I it I was amazed and it had great potential but after EP 20 or so everything went downhill. It didnt make sense. None of it.
Now Rahxhephon answers all the questions it proposes. The ending gives closure and yes I do beleive it was made to mock Evangelion as the first EP we here someone saying "All is right with the world, eh?" :headbang:
