i like anime which is a bit deep and artistically oriented, so i dont particularly like shounen jump stuff that much. bleach isnt on this list because it lacks any real depth much like naruto, although bleach is several times better than naruto since the main character doesnt use the same attack for about 100 episodes.

I'm glad that someone finally made a thread about this show; it's really good, but I don't think that many people know about it. I must confess though, that I didn't really get into the story until about episode 4 or so (the thing with Mayama and Rika). Before that, I just thought that Hagu-chan needed to be stomped on. Several times. With baseball cleats. I don't know why I didn't like her (besides the fact that she looked like a little creepy blonde alien), but at least I've gotten used to her now. Fortunately, she looks more normal in season two. I love all the other characters, though.

I have most of the Eyeshield manga downloaded, at least until www.deimonhigh.com went down a few months back. I also watched most of the episodes on youtube. It's a good manga the anime is pretty decent as well, but it's really toned down.

It is pretty unrealistic, but it's all about the entertainment value. So far I'm at the Seiyu Wild Gunman vs Deimon, I'll have to get back to the manga sooner or later.

Agreed. It's damn unrealistic as far as sports manga goes (...Wait a second.), but it has the spirit and awesomeness to make it almost anyone's favorite. While the actual moves may be unrealistic, they at least explain the tactics used pretty well.

My favorite game so far is probably the one against the NASA Aliens. So much was going for in that one. The Shuttle Pass arm grab was one of the best moves I've seen aside from the diving touchdown. Can't wait for volume 10 to come out. D:

I can't stand the anime, to be honest. I had an awesome idea of it when I was reading through the first volume, and was sorely disappointed by the shitty low budget the actual anime ended up getting. It could've been so much better, so much more dynamic. :(

But during the show you see such parts of the episode where Yushohida show`s him true self and is a really nice friend to him and trys to help him! If you see those you can see his intetions as a friend is true and he`s really nice.

My favorite anime of all time was definately Berserk, As im sure you can probably tell by my AVI and sig. Its a story about love, And dreams, And broken dreams, As well as much action as any other series. The story line was great and had excellent character development. I have always said that a good show or movie is one that causes genuine emotion. Whether that emotion be happiness, or sadness, or anger, or hate, as long as you genuinly feel that emotion in your heart then thats good writing. If you watch this anime from start to finish, On the final episode you WILL feel this guys hatred and pain. (the guy from my AVI and sig) Now me personally, I'm a mans man. I eat red meat and get drunk and smash beer cans on my head. I laughed when Bambis mother got shot. But I'm not even gonna lie, When I watched that last episode, I got a little teary eyed. Anyone who hasn't seen the series, I HIGHLY reccomend it.

Ninja scroll is an awesome yet somewhat older anime strictly for more mature audiences. It's kinda like Naruto except more blood and naked chicks. But yeah there are episodes too. I got 1-6 through Ares my file sharing program, But it's few and far between new EPs pop up.

But so far he is traveling with that little old man, Some punk kid theif, And some girl who the enemies all refer too as the "princess of light". And now he is on a mission trying to get back some mystical jewel that was entrusted to him so he can give it to the "princess of light"

i dont really understand why Shounen anime dont like to have any sense of romance in their anime. I understand thats its for male teens but is it compleletly Romance free? I.E. bleach couples.

Not really. Shounen anime have couplings, but it's doubtful that a teen boy is going to want to sit there and watch a huge love triangle form and watch mushy love scenes. It's not obsolete. Even in DBZ, which was 90% fighting pretty much, there were still couplings (I.E. YamchaxBulma, BulmaxVegeta, 18xKuririn, GohanxVidel, etc). They just don't get nearly as dramatic about romance as you would see in a shoujo anime or an anime made for both shounen and shoujo people.

If you've ever seen anything by CLAMP, you'll know where I'm coming from with this...

Maybe this should get moved to the anime section, as it's not Bleach specific.... Mod's choice.

I haven't seen all that much in the 6 EPs of the series I have watched although there is a little. However in the movie there is significantly more. Similar to the anime Berserk, When ever a woman is defeated by a man in battle, It seems like no one wants to kill her, They just want to rape her. That is of course assumiung she is somewhat attractive by anime standards.

Sorry for the thread in the wrong sectioin. I totaly agree with you. Im not saying completely involve romance in it but just a scene or so maybe nothing even major. The young male audience probably loves the whole actions shounen scene but im sure somewhere in their liking they would like to see something involving romantic development. Make the anime worth watching

I actually think that Bleach is reasonably realistic when it comes to romance. When you consider that Soul Society is basically a big important bureaucracy and that Ichigo & co. are usually in trouble, it makes sense that the romance is pushed to one side.

Besides, people seem to have a really warped view of how things like this occur. People do not get together like they do in romantic comedies or CLAMP stories! Not unless they've been brainwashed by fiction into thinking that that's how things are.

The one thing I would perhaps pick up on is that, while grand romance is rightly kept out of Bleach - if it was real - certain things would have happened by now. More physical or flirt based things, rather than any hammy romance. I mean, it's almost guaranteed that in real life Ichigo would have kissed Tatsuki, Orihime or even Rukia by now, whether it be meaningful or just at a party - even "for a dare" when he was younger. I'm not saying that you should have kissed/got further by age 15 (though it's obviously pretty common) but more that if you were 15, go to a mixed school and grew up with lots of girls around you, at least 1 or 2 of whom fancy you... You reallly, really should have kissed them (or got kissed) by now.

But I do think it would really interfere - if Rukia and Ichigo got together, for example, it would be like Dick and Jane going around fighting Hollows...

while the priority they place is different,shounen manga is more prone to battle,competition,friendship and the like,in contrast,shoujo manga is more aimed at love,which ,typically,portray a scene that the lovers r making out under a tree or on a beach or ...what else,well,ya know...

3rd impact from the very beginning because none of them trust Gendo....who does? so that's why it's safe to assume that the fake ones were copied from the real one not just something made to look like the real one.

Anyway, I think that Shounen anime is just more about the fighting and cool scenes and blood rather than romance scenes (sidenote: I'm a hopeless romance-freak... don't get me wrong. I like romamnce and all, but I like it when it is spiced with some action), because it is for males (note: Shounen means young boy). That's why love is that "center of the universe" as it is with Shoujo anime, which are for the typical romance-lving girl (note: Shoujo means a yound girl).

Oh and BTW I have nothing against girls who like Shounen anime or action stuff. I'm just saying that romance is more associated with women rather than men.

I don't know about you, But from my personal experiences. It doesn't matter what you have going on. When romance happens, It happens. And there is nothing you can do about it. And as far as "dick and jane fighting hollows" Look at Meroku and Sango from Inuyasha. Sango agreed to bear Meroku's children and go back to his village after they defeat Naraku. Yet they still do a pretty good job kicking demon ass. Like I said earlier in this thread. I would not suggest they divulge entire episodes dedicated to Ichigo and Inoue (not rukia) but if they spent 2 minutes every few episodes expanding on that it wouldn't hurt.

(e.g. bleach, naruto, DBZ, yuyu hakusho, rurouni kenshin) although the theme is generally action and a lot of fight scenes.. it mainly revolves around concepts of friendship, family, trust, respect, life.... of course, romance is added as a spice.. because in reality, life isnt really about all romance.. romance is an added spice to make things interesting... and yeah, shounen IS aimed at young boys.. now, because of that, the theme is generally action and adventure and stuff.. whereas shoujou which is aimed at younger girls.. caters to their emotional and developmental needs like heartwarming stories, romance and stuff...

There's a lot of love story stuff in Shounen manga/anime. However, very few stories ever get ANY development done. (Check out friggin Inuyasha for an example. 400+ chapters and Kagome and Inuyasha are STLL all "OMFG I CAN'T SAY I LOVE HIM!" "I CAN'T SAY I LOVE HER!" even though EVERYONE knows how)

So a few series have actually working relationships (uh, off the top of my head all I can think of are RuroKen and DBZ) and then everything else tends to be one sided/confusing never progressing three-way stuff.

So while looking around the forum I noticed these guys that keep popping up everywhere talking about saving One Piece. I thought to myself, "that show on cartoon network that got canceled? That show sucks." But I'm already caught up with Bleach and Naruto so I figured I'd give it a try and see what it's about and all I have to say is OMG. The original is waaay different. I just saw episode 126 today(Luffy vs Crocodile) and now I'm truly a believer. This show is FAR superior to bleach (I'm not giving up on bleach yet. I still think theres some life left in it.). Once you get passed the goofy animation you'll see what I mean, so if you're not watching anything right now I highly suggest at least checking out the first ten episodes. Anybody got any other recommendations for a good anime, cause I never would have bothered with this show if it weren't for those guys. Rock on One Piece. Rock on.

I agree with u Plane, because personally I loved the original ending, maybe even more than the movie.

25 and 26 was (in my perspective), the Human Instrumentality program in which Shinji, the core subject has the power to change the world into one where only he exists, or he can choose to stop instrumentality and let the world remain. ie. a world where he and others must co-exist.

The two episodes focuses on Shinji's insecurities in interacting with others, in the fear of getting hurt, being hated, or betrayed.
We gain a deeper understanding into all the main characters' ego and some of their past through their individual presentations. That provides an explanation to their personality throughout the series.

Shinji, being the main focus of Instrumentality, is fully revealed to us in a presentation of a continuous stream of inner thought, and struggle within his mind. This inner conflict is opened up by Intrumentality to the other characters, enabling them to question Shinji's state of mind and challenge his perception of the civilised world. Ultimately this leads to Shinji himself struggling to defend his beliefs, and then question them as he himself notices flaws in his state of mind.

The last two eps also discusses the human perceptions of freedom. When shinji was given the blank paper world, it was referred to as "the world of freedom" for Shinji. Yet it is in the "world of freedom" where Shinji feels lost, and empty, requiring assistance, to draw a line as a ground for him.

Shinji's belief of "freedom" has been one where he is free from the eyes of others. Thus during Instrumentality, he struggles against the omnissient questions, and breaks down at the opinions of others like Asuka and Rei.
He is a naive boy who yearns for protection and affection (well...someone to be nice to him), which he never really recieved throughout the series.

He first heard "I love you" from Kaoru, which touched him, establishing the first real emotional bond that Shinji ever shared with any character in the series. However, this is ultimately broken as Kaoru was an Angel. Kaoru, before his death, re-establishes this bond by his final speech which touched Shinji once again, making the killing of Kaoru devastating for Shinji.

It is from then that Shinji plunged into a world of doubt, and paranoia of the contact with others. Thus Shinji longed for a solitude world, where no-one but him exists. That way, he won't be hurt, hated, or betrayed.

In the end, Shinji questions his world after seeing a possibility of "his longed for world", and decides to stay in the world where he co-exists with each other.

I agree with everything except the focus of Shinji. Its true that all of 26 is about him, however in the first half of 25 we visit the minds of Asuka, Misato and somewhat Rei all interacting with one another, mostly about character issues.

I think that the exploring of Asuka Rei and Misato (aka, the main females in his life) was to provide a perspective for Shinji into the nature of the mind of others, rather than only his own.

EoE....I thought it was the same ending but with a TOTALLY different mood.
Shinji chose to remain in a world where others exists...in both.

But in EoE...the first ones to return into the living world was Shinji ans Asuka It was stated by Yui that anyone can return as long as they have the will to.

There are a plenty of Shounen animes with a good love story - Mai HiME & Otome, for example. It's just that the Shounen animes with a good love story do tend to be a little 'deeper' than the more common ones (DBZ, Naruto etc.) and actually require some intelligence to understand, hence less people watch them.

I wont act like that but I will tell you this, i had a friend who thought the same way, got him to sit down with me and watch ten episodes and he completely changed his mind.

One of the reasons Oda chose a rubber man to be the main character is because he felt that there were many very serious moments in the plot and the wacky fighting style sort of lets you calm down a bit and makes it so its not overly serious. Plus in my opinion its very unique and some of the things done with it later on can only be decribed as badass.

Also I just had to clear it up, hes not a rubber band guy, hes a rubber guy and there is a creative reason as to where those powers come from. Also many other people have special powers, combine that with good martial arts, swordplay, and throw a little weather magic in and you get some of the most inventive, enjoyable, and fun too watch fights ever.

The first few eps are nothing. You cannot judge an epic anime based on that. If I were like that then I never would have continued Bleach. Everything before Soul Soceity is complete BS.

Most of those shounen series are aimed at older teens, and as such, aren't found in something like Shounen Jump, which generally caters to younger kids. A lot of people on this interweb assume that all shounen series are put in shounen jump :B

But yeah, it depends on the series and such, and the magazine it's serialized in. (I mean, FMA is friggin shounen, and look at how deep it is. But it doesn't have romance so it doesn't count I guess XD.)

Yeah I know there have been countless threads of people asking what anime to watch. But everyone just says "watch this it's good" and doesn't really give a description to what the show is about or what age it's aimed at. Since everyone has their own opinions on what's good and what isn't. I might take someones advice and spend time and effort downloading a show about magical fairies that live in a rainbow who's job is to make fluffy bunnies fall in love. Yeah not exactly how I want to spend my afternoon.

My favorite anime of all time is berserk. Ninja scroll was alright too. So now I'm looking for something similiar. If anyone has any suggestions about an extremely bloody anime that has a good story line to it too. I would be happy to hear your thoughts.

Have you seen this movie called Spriggan? It had a lot of action in it and I thought it was kinda violent (Sort of)

And this other anime called Urotsukidoji as well. Had a lot of blood, gore and violence. It had a lot of sexual references as well, but I didn't care.

I still dont like the focus on Shinji...I think its more basic than that. I think it was just trying to wrap up the extreme character issues that had developed. It may have helped, but I dont think the intention was to improve Shinji's perspective on others.

Although in EoE they did something similiar. During one of the mind trip scenes they had the Eva women talking to Shinji (Which may or may not have been in his own mind) about relationships and providing insight, but in this they are talking in direct relation to Shinji unlike the scenes in ep 25.

Asuka's eyes were brown in the end of EoE...a popular theory is that she is Asuka, Rei and Misato combined.

Also a lot of people believe that Shinji and Asuka are the only ones that will return. Something like a new Adam and Eve, although they fill that role anyway being the first two to return.

10 episodes is more then enough time for a anime to get going. Bleach was pretty good in the first episode. I'm not using A.D.D as a defence and ADHD is basically the same thing as ADD except you have more energy both can't pay attention. I was using it as a way to say if you don't grab my attention quick you probably won't at all. How am I bashing the anime anyways...it's my opinion I am entitled to say what I feel, and I feel one piece is garbage.

anyways....about the eyes...it's a popular theory but, if you have a high quality copy of the movie, or have seen it in the intended movie theatre, you will find that the popular theory was born from a quality glitch because you will be able to see that her eyes were not brown, but a dark shade of "ivory blue".

The scene was set under a night sky, Asuka's eyes were dark blue, logical for the amount of light in that scene. I believe that the brown eyes theory is one of those that are definitely false...


About the "only Asuka and Shinji can return" theory, I believe otherwise~ you see, in the final Yui + Fuyutsuki scene, Yui states that those who have the will to live can return to the world. All we are shown at the end is the first people who returned from Intrumentality/ 3rd impact.

One other prove can be Asuka's death:
We can safely asume that Asuka did die in EVA 02 after the beserker.
Because we know that the lance of Longinus penetrates into the barrier of the soul and the damage pierces through to the pilot. We know this from Asuka's eye that was pouring blood after the lance pierced EVA 02, and the splitting of Asuka's arm as the lance pierced through EVA 02's arm. The 9 lances all pierce EVA 02's body afterwards. It's safe to assume that she DID get killed....

So her returning from death is a possible prove that all people can return from the LCL if they have the will to (hell of course Asuka has the will to live....she was screaming I DUN WANNA DIE~ dammit lol)

Hey does anyone else besides me think that DBZ and Bleach are alike? I mean because everytime a new enemy shows up they get pwned then they have to get stronger and they Finally beat them. While Bleach has a better (alot better ) story than DBZ they seem to do the same things anyone agree?

To a certain degree all anime will become like DBZ. It is just a matter of when they stop. I think it would be great if Bleach ended after the Aizen arc otherwise it will drag on too long.

As for DBZ, I thought it would have been great if they ended at the Cell Games. I mean if they ended at the Frieza saga then we would barely get a glimpse of SSJ while the Cell Games there were a whole ton of SSJs. It dragged on too long and the show sucks after that.

All shounen series tend to fall into the DBZ category. Bleach is definately getting similar. Everyone powering up, ban kai becoming a commonplace thing (when they used to be a BIG deal), so on so forth.

Well to start you are comparing an anime from 89' to recently new anime.
In my case there isn't and i doubt there will be an anime that can be compare to dbz, for the fact that a big chunk of my childhood i guess you can called Dbz Freak.
i see your point that they are alike for the way they increice their ki and how they fight someone lose, train become stronger and then beating them. as for the story its not even close to compare in my opinion.

Well I thought the Cell Games was where they should end it since it was Future Trunks that went SSJ and only Gohan was the little kid that went SSJ. Throughout the series, Gohan had hidden powers so I thought it made sense that he went SSJ so early.

As far as the good guys getting smacked down at first then powering up and kicking ass, Alot of anime's are like that. Although I do think DBZ was the inspiration for most of these shows. I think you can find subtle DBZ references in pretty much any physical combat (opposed to gun slinging) anime out there. For example, am I the only one who thinks that Ichimaru's zanpahkutou is based on Goku's power pole?

Not bad taste freaking me and dragon were talking and dragon said blood wasn't good and stopped watching it. Ton's of people are Blood fans but Dragon said it was too slow. I don't like slow animes it needs to start strong and i'll love it.

Actualy I dont know anyone mentioned it but DBZ doesnt use weapons much unlike Bleach also most of the Bleach characters doesnt look all 'muscular'... And while I was watching Bleach, I never find Bleach simular to DBZ at all, but thats just what I think... :eek13:

So they are funny looking characters, and it is slow.. wow, people are great on being ignorant. The art is different from anything else, don't judge by appearance they say. Slow?
