Yep! They're pretty good mature choices :) Also look into Samurai Gun (only 12 eps long), its produced by the same people as Samurai Champloo only more serious, most people haven't heard of it.

Seymour would win this one. Anima alone should be enough. All the FF7 main characters (minus Cloud) were barely doing any damage to Bahamut in the movie. Anima is significantly bigger and has very powerful attacks. If all that was focused on Vincent, he'd be a goner.

Yeah, I've actually seen Speed Grapher, I thought it started off good but I kind of lost interest towards the end. I liked the Opening Soundtrack as well... Girls on Film.

Comeone Death note is flawed, what fi someone changes name and you never get to know it but try to kill it, why dont Nicknames count, what qualifies as a name?

Death Note is so much better, imo. Bleach ,like all shonen animes, focuses on physical battles. If you pay attention to the ploit, any goal can be achieved by beating someone in a fight. So Bleach is quite simple tha tway.

Death Note is about wits, you try to manipulate those around you and outsmart the other, the shinigami are so much different and the mood differs as well .It's not creepy, like someone said before, but more on edge and complex.

Bleach- action action and good story but action is the focus.

DeathNote- (from what I have read not watched) seems very very story driven vs action.

I think both are good and I see nothing similar besides shinigami that is it.

You're talking about two different types of anime here...

Death Note is a plot-driven anime that is meant to be primarily focused on the intellect of the characters, on the twists in the plot, and on the way characters interact with each other, and how they affect the story.

Bleach is a more character-driven anime, the characters are intended to show their honor, generosity, and other such traits that are supposed to be inspired to the younger generation as "proper behavior" (though the result is often violent kids as they begin to believe that you CAN solve your problems by picking a massive sword and swinging it around while shouting Kamehameha), and the primary focus is the action, the explosions, the cool attack names, and whatever.

I follow both religiously (Bleach both anime and manga, Death Note only anime because I don't want to spoil myself), and I find both very interesting. Death Note is intriguing and deep, Bleach is (supposed to be) explosive, with a lot of fighting and interesting abilities.

There's no point in even arguing over this, as different people prefer different styles and genres. Bleach may be predictable story-wise (or not, depending on how it ends. We may yet be surprised), but since both are entirely different, I see no point in arguing over which is better or bashing either anime.

I was wondering who you guys think would win in a battle between Sara (the blind assassin girl) and Kariya Kagetoki (Jin's final opponent) in Samurai Champloo.

I honestly think that Kariya would win because he is the "final boss" in the series (he took on Mugen without hardly moving and was able to deal with both simultaneously without much trouble) and had some really awesome moves (like the disappearing sword trick, ki blasts, and that after-image super speed), but Sara seemed to be having no trouble with Mugen and was able to cut Gin easily. And keep in mind that she was blind while Kariya was not. In addition, she was super strong and was able to predict Mugen's moves.

I still think that it would be Kariya, but what does everyone else think?

Take it from someone whos completed FFX numerous times, Anima isn't that great. When you have the sisters you'll hardly use him at all, and i would always summon Bahamut with Yunas overdrive over Anima.

And 've also completed Dirge Of Cerberus numerous times, and chaos is a monster, really. The gun he has when vincent is in chaos mode one hit kills..

Thing is Brooke might not mind losing. He's got other skills like walking on water that he seems to be rather proud of. Which of these two weapons for Dante is more badass in terms of acquisition cut scenes and fighting power? I personally choose Ifrit. It fights more spectacular, although the Alastor has a cooler acquisition cut scene.

Ifrit is from DMC and grants Dante the flaming gauntlet. Beowulf is from DMC 3 and grants Dante invincible gauntlets and greaves.

Kariya would win. Sara, though badass and talented, was just a pawn. Kariya was the man himself, known by all as the "Hand of God/Hands of God". You don't get a nickname like that for nothing.

Sara took on Mugen & Jin with relative ease, but in 1 on 1 matches. Kariya took them both on at once, and was winning. He's just too fast for her. It would be a good fight, but Kariya has this.

Though, come to think of it, they were both so great that they couldn't be defeated upright. Sara let Mugen kill her, and Kariya was caught off-guard by Jin's suicidal technique... Bleh. It sucks to be great...

Writers should be able to pull off a so-so ending, if they cant allow themselves to continue.

On the other hand, as long as I can read the manga, I wont care much, the manga is always better anyway. The anime pleases the eye (or atleast should) while the manga pleases the mind.

Hmm... the only example of an anime that seriously dissapointed me by ending halfway (hell, it wasn't even halfway) of the manga was Get Backers - and I watched the anime AGES before I knew it had a manga.

I was all "WTF, that's it? Something's off here..." and then I read Wikipedia's article and found out about the manga.

Aside from that, I haven't really seen any anime that end up halfway through the manga and had a bad ending... for example, take FullMetal Alchemist. Zero relation to the manga, so I've heard, and I don't find it dissapointing.

Tenjou Tenge? Excellent ending without any of the let-down of Get Backer's ending (and I started reading the manga when I started the anime, so I realized after episode 24 that the manga should continue).

Nah, it's dissapointing mostly because you just want to see the manga animated (case in point: Ruroni Kenshin's Jinchuu arc. Hell, I WANTED to see that animated).

As long as a name belongs to a face, I don't think it matters if it's the one you're born with or the one you've changed. As long as its your REAL name (and not a fake one given to cower your real one, like that agent did when talking with Light), it doesn't matter how many times you change it.

After all, the name you're "born with" is decided by your parents after you're born... technically, before one is born, one is nameless. hence, as long as that is the name of the object in question, the Death Note will work.

So unfortunately true. They were both so badass that they had to die in a "different" way. Sara just let Mugen slice through her like butter. And Jin, knowing he could not defeat Kariya in a sword fight (he even said it was a technique for opponents one couldn't win against) had to resort to allowing himself to get stabbed and then sneaking a blow in with his wakizashi. If only Samurai Champloo were still running. Oh man, it makes me so sad to know such a great anime has ended :(. Those villains had such potential, especially Kariya, since he was introduced at the very end and we never got to know him or his POWER!!!

The fights are done amizingly and the whole scenery they give, extremely nice, I was longing for such nicely animated fights!

Can't the crew have two swordsmen? They can learn from each other. The world is too big to find someone who is a musician and a skill that compliments the crew. Somebody got to have skills that clashes. It just show how random Oda-sama can get on his story board. It's those times when pirates are thriving. It's common to get people who use swords. Maybe Oda-sama thinks the crew is settling down so an addition that can liven up the community is necessary. Someone who could bring chaos to the team and annoys lazy Zoro so he don't sleep all day. And Zoro would be like challenging Brooke to sword fights at the slightest provocation all the time.

Well, I agree, but Bleach seems more character driven than I think its sometimes given credit for, at least as far as what I like about it, as far as the internal struggle, and it's more than done in dialogue, I like how that struggle is illustrated... a big part of the story for me. But, I can't but help love the cool moves, names, explosions, battle cries, etc, like it's been said... but that's for the dumbed down (but still fun) part of the brain.


I wouldn't say that death note is entirely supprising all the time, but damn sure close (if you dont read the manga of course)... it seems like even if you know what's going to happen (which is hit or miss with all the plot twists), that it still puts you on edge. Got to love the layers in the battles of intellect too.



I know it's been said, but the shinigami aren't even of the same type. I would say the only similarities are the fact that each is an anime and manga, and uses the term 'shinigami'.... but, that's in term only. The overall feel, the cities, the characters, the plot, everything has a different tone. Death note is also done less fantastical, and feels like it could actually be happening in japan right now.

I do wish that death note had a little more action going on in whatever is the equivilent of SS/HM/hell/purgatory ... the few shots and character dialogue that happens always leaves me wanting more...

Thats what we don't know. I'm sure when it comes to first names, you probably have to be killed with the name you were born with. Like say your name is Samantha but no one calls you that, and you're called Sam by everyone and even put that as your name down on some documents (except for govt ones =P) You couldn't be killed with just Sam, it would have to be Samantha.

When you're married your surname is legally changed. I really think that you'd now have to be killed by your married surname, but it never mentions this so I can't say for certain XP

It also mentions that the shinigami can see your name even if it was never registered in the family registry. Like with L, his name was probably never legally documented at birth, theres a strong chance it wasn't. I beleive somewhere it says that you can kill with a surname only, right? When Dep. Yagami was threatening Mello?

As long as a name belongs to a face, I don't think it matters if it's the one you're born with or the one you've changed. As long as its your REAL name (and not a fake one given to cower your real one, like that agent did when talking with Light), it doesn't matter how many times you change it.

After all, the name you're "born with" is decided by your parents after you're born... technically, before one is born, one is nameless. hence, as long as that is the name of the object in question, the Death Note will work.

I agree 100%. You aren't born with a name already, it given to you legally by your parents. So if you change your name legally then your new name replaces the old one.

And the death god eyes kinda act like a truth window. Even if you lie about your name, the eyes will be able to see the legal name in which you were given, or what you have changed it to.

I'm not quite sure. In the beginning he killed only criminals, and I supported that. He was doing a good thing then, he honestly wanted to change the world and I could see his point of view. Many criminals are set free because the courts can't prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, but that doesn't make them less guilty for their crime.

But when he started killing the FBI agents, I think that's when he went from "justice seeker" to "murderer".

True he was protecting himself, which insured that more criminals would be brought to justice, but in the end he really just killed a few of the innocent people he said he was trying to protect.

I like anime more then cartoons. When I was younger before I knew about anime I liked Disney, and don't get me wrong I still love the old time Disney cartoons, but the new ones not so much.

Anime seems aimed more for teens and adults instead of kids. The fight scenes in most animes are hard core and graphic. And the storylines are way better then any cartoon's I've ever seen.

Anime is definitely better but there are some good cartoons out there that borrow from anime... At least, toons are making steps in the right direction...

well, not exactly... they still function as a death god, but in different manners, on different planes, with a different set of rules, with a different appearence, sending souls away via different methods, etc.

DN's shinigami are reapers that actually take an active roll in you dying... it is unsaid of where the soul goes afterwards, if there even is one, and who, if anyone guides it there (a 'before' death god).
Bleach's shinigami, as it's been pointed out, act as psychopomps and are more or less soul garbagemen once the death has already taken place, presumably by natural causes. they guide (more like send) the souls along, depending on where they need to go (SS for plus souls, HM for minus souls, or hell's gates for extremely evil people, apparently)... (an 'after' death god).
many religions/mythologies/fictional works have characters, shinigamis, that have both functions simultaneously... they kill you then take/guide your soul.
at the end of the day, they are still shinigami aka death gods. similarities other than name and function include:

both exist on higher levels (planes if you will)
both 'stay' in other dimmensions (i guess is the best word for it)... homes like SS, HM, hell, (wherever it's called that DN shini stay when not on...
both venture to earth dimension from said place to due their dirty work
both are generally unable to be seen by the average person's eyes
both can not be harmed by conventional weopons
both have life spans that make human's existances seem fleeting
both have superhuman abilities such as flight, going through walls, zanpaketos, kido attacks, etc.
both are some kind of soul form themselves and benefit whether directly or indirectly by the work they do

so, no, it's not just that they share the same name. the grim reaper is the grim reaper, werewolfs are werewolfs, and vampires are vampires in different media, but they have diff appearences and ways to kill/ways to be killed, etc. BUT, they all still function similarly and are recognizalbe by their actions and or appearence.

not just something... it's the name given to the characters functioning as death gods. bleach doesn't call firefighters 'shinigami', for instance. so their purposes/roles are very similar, with all different details.

I wanna add some other similarities between the shows. beyond being animes. beyond having shinigami.

both take place in modern times, in modern cities, with modern tech.
both have humans that are realistically not superhumans ((DN has the actual note, but no superpowers beyond the supernatural aid... bleach has normal humans... even the protagonist is not actually a human, but either a spirit (in gigai) and human halfling, or a full blown spirit-spirit progeny, being housed in a body that was born of two gigai, and therefore alive but nevertheless not a natural birth by any means. the only humans that seem to have superhuman powers are either children of shinigami and in ichigo's family, or influenced directly from the superhuman ichigo. therefor, no one in either show just has magical powers as a normal human.)) and believable. except the quincy... but they are spiritual.
both have some sort of dark afterworld.

Yeah, I'm sort of on the fence about that one... True, there are cetain monsters out there in the world that really are more a menace to society rather than a pillar to support it but Kira is just about killing off anyone that breaks the law... Does that mean, if you litter your name ends up in the DN? I hope not. I believe there is such a thing as rehabilitation and redemption from one's crimes. Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect... especially Kira. What if he starts writing the name's of the innocent who were wrongly accused. Many times in society, innocent people are blamed for crimes they didn't commit just because they are social outcasts because it makes it easier for us to point the finger at a scapegoat that no one likes... Sorry, I just finished Grisham's lastest, "The Innocent Man..." It's a true story that talks all about that.

In any case, I think in some cases Kira is justified but not all cases.

I knew there were two paths, one where L is the victor and the other where Light is the victor. There is no other path because L and Light can only succeed if the other completely fails. If L wins, the story ends. If Light wins, the story continues. It was to be expected.

That's because Japanese don't actually have the letter 'L' in there language. So anytime a word has an 'L' it's pronounce with a 'r' sound. So Raito is Light!

Next, it's the Continuing On My Own novel where Sagara's AS is destroyed by Tessa's brother (forgot his name) and Sagara himself dissapears. At the same time most Mithril facilities are destroyed by Amalgam surprise attacks.

Who says Zoro and Brooke have to fight? These two have 2 different styles. Brooke looks like he uses more *Rapier* style while Zoro uses well.....his sytle :P

The only time I see them fighting is if Brooke says he wants to be the best swordsman. This also gives Zoro someone good to spar with all the time when on the ship.

I personally enjoyed Ifrit a bit more, but in terms of fighting power, Beowulf blows it out of the water. Its got two different moves that can instant kill when on DMD mode.

So yeah I'm uber confused about the ending of chobits, Can someone explain the ending to me and is there any episodes after 26 or does the manga go deeper into it?
I haven't watched the anime.

However, I did read the manga from start to finish. The ending is simple.

It attempts to portray true love. The guy loves his Chobit girl (her name Chi, if I remember right), but he cannot go all the way (he can't enter her vagina, though the other openings are still open) because her on and off switch is there, so touching it would turn her off and reset her, thus erasing her memory (and love) of him.

So as I said, the ending of the manga is "the guy can't do the girl".

How does the anime end?

The anime had some freakish wave of freakishness come out of chii and affect all the other persacons. This is what they are asking I presume, what did that end wave accomplish. (no clue if that was in the manga, never read it)

No, it could not have turned them human, but taking a sappy long shot, all the persacons could have at that point been given a chobits like awareness, thus breathing 'life' into allll the bots.

Otherwise, they all just like really pretty colors.

Also, the guy still couldn't do the girl in the anime either.

The doctor that created the Chobits made them much more human like.

So when the dude didn't know what was he to do (like, he wasn't sure if it's a good idea to fall in love with a machine you can't even do properly), Chi's other self (her sister) started turning the personcons into mindless beings - literally machines without even human-like intelligence.

I suppose that's the question? In that case, well, the idea was to a. understand what true love is (no sex? Ha. No love), and b. to understand that when you create human-like machines you should treat them like humans or don't make them at all.

If you've played Dirge of Cerberus, you would know how badass Vincent is, although I think FF7 would be enough.

Vincent can fly! He uses guns and can become Chaos. Because of experiments done on his body, his body has become stronger and is pretty much immortal (That's why he can become Chaos) and he cannot age anymore.

The summon Anima is overrated, it gets owned by a group of people who don't have special training/enhancements (e.g: Cloud).

Okay, Seymore has all his transformations, but will his hits make contact with Vincent, maybe but unlikely. Vincent in Chaos form would destroy Seymour.

FF7 Vincent is pretty weak. In Advent Children, he was barely a nuisance to Bahamut, a considerably weaker and smaller summon. How well the characters perform in the actual RPG battles isn't much to consider, as it just depends on the level of the characters... you could have Tifa defeat Sephiroth when this isn't possible by storyline ability.

Anyone been following this series?? I've read that theres alot of legendary mecha designers working on this project and plus BONES. The style of artwork is weird but I really like it...Everything seems flat..idk...just different. The computer effects are pretty awesome too like the explosions ect. I'm liking the main plot but I'm hoping some subplots develop so its not so predictable...like each episode they face another countries idol and beat it and so on for 30 eps or w/e its scheduled for.

Anyway, if you're a fan of mecha and appreciate good artwork and animation check this series out.

The character designs IMO are not that great and obviously are inconsistent. They should of used the ED character design style, I like that one much better. CGed Mechas are usually frowned upon from viewers but its alright here to me. I like other mecha anime better than this one though

I'm ok with downloading the rvnb* or whatever files but I find I can't watch it on a big screen like I could have done with the .avi files.

Basically I'm looking to be up-to-date with the naruto / shippuuden, Bleach and One Piece episodes in .avi format.

The best thing I could hope for is that someone copies those files onto blank DVD disks and then sends them to me (around 45 eps for ~170MB files onto a 4.7GB disk)
I don't mind paying for it - but the problem is that I live in the UK. I don't suppose there's anyone in the UK who can help me out?
