So, what's your opinion on bootlegs? (It is not just limited to dvds and can be shirts, cds, and other merch.) Would/do you buy it? Why?

my friend has a mod-chip, and so it's easy to say bootlegs are the way to go. Even though Bleach isn't liscensed yet, wouldn't the fansubs be considerered pirating cause I'm sure as hell am not gonna ditch out $20 for liek 4 eps at a time, every 3 months for dvds. Bootleg toys and shirts just plain suck in quality, but since a burned game or DVD is the exact same thing, whos to complain (besides the company)? :rolleye09
In simpler terms when it comes to meadia (DVD's, CD's and stuff) I'll take it for free, but I will support a franchise in the areas of merchandise and manga or shirts or stuff like that.

as far as music goes if you want the album as the artist released it you still have to buy it . p2p, downloads all done in tracks . complete albums are hard to find .
if you are an old music whore like myself bootlegs are king, 20 bucks or better for a cd is rediculous.

If quality is crap no way! But I usually have everything pirated....right down to my OS...(hello Mac OS X Tiger (3 days early)) However i do support somthing if i have really enjoyed it! For example i will most proberbly buy bleach when it comes out in Aus, purely because i have enjoyed it so much. The same goes for CDs etc

i'll usually buy the original copies of most things. when it comes to music it depends. if i like the whole CD i'll just buy it but if i only want a certain song i'll download it. as for dvds... i'll buy dvds but i'll borrow anime from my friends since they have almost everything and because it's much better to get it free than $80+ for the collection

Even though bootleging is illegal, I have no problem against it; if you want to do it, go ahead. But I sure won't buy/download it, since the quality is sometimes so crappy that you can't see a thing. I'd rather wait for it to come on dvd or cd and buy it.

The only bootleg thing i'd download would be animes, since it's very hard for me to find them, since there's almost no shop around me that sells or rent them and I have no credit card to order them online.

Well, I've seen many bootleg shirts that were crap, and many that were better than the official ones, so it all depends. As far as the dvds, if it is just a burned copy of the original, then I would be fine with it (although if it was some cheap HongKong sub, then no way...I can get better for free on the internet.)

When it comes too bootlegs for me it all depends on the quality. Of all the things I have I think really the only bootlegs are my Hong Kong sub anime DVDs and some anime soundtracks. The cds sound fine and of no lower quality than the ones I do buy original Japanese copies of, but becuase I believe in musical artist support I never buy a bootleg of an artist cd, unless it's like uber cheap like this $5 one I picked up at a local asian store in my area. I used to buy hong kong subs a lot becuase I was on dial up internet and it would take nearly a week or so to get one anime episode which was insane, so I would d/l like the first episode of something then buy the hong kong subs off ebay. I still sometimes buy HK subs to use the raws for AMV purposes if I didn't get in quick enough to d/l the raws for a series. As of now I only have Bleach ep 22 and up in raw. I can usually pick up taiwanese bootlegs of anime soundtracks for under $15 at local anime stores. It's what most of the anime cons won't let them bring because they consider them as the bootlegs they are, but I don't care to pay $30+ for an anime soundtrack and there are also a lot of things that are out of print from the japanese companies that the taiwanese companies are still making copies of. But for the Bleach soundtrack cause I want it ASAP I will probably get it in original form. Ever since I got a job I am buying more things in original form. For me it depends on what it is and quality I guess.

I personally would rather buy the original to help support the creators of bleach tan a bootleg.

The creator of Bleach is Tite Kubo, and the people who do the anime are most likely just greedy leachers. Not leachers of media though...just money. :|

I dont buy software because the ones I want are too expenisve. $500 for photoshop? No thanks, id rather bootleg it. As for anime, i dont give a **** about the american companies. But I do support Kubo, so Ive bought all the Bleach DVDs that have came out. And I have all the original manga.

well i am a bootlegger!!!
I find little personal benefit in buying the original japanese dvds or even dvds from hong kong cos the english subs are god awful and i never understand them I only buy them if i have money to spare so i can have the official imported japanese dvds (just so I can say that sentence to people), I do honestly belive in supporting an artist so i tend to go to the japan centre and buy the japanese manga volumes i dont understand the dialogue but i got all the bleach volumes on my pc anyway so these are just to show some love and also to put on my shelf.
When it comes to programmes i am shameless photoshop is to expensive also things like final cut pro i cant afford but need for part of my course so i bootleg. Music i have like 3000 mp3's but im a musi fiend i will always go and buy the cd if i like some songs of the artist i like having a cd collection (its only at about 250 at the moment but it'll get there)
