OK, I'm sure all of us here have a preferd choice of music genre that they listen to. But what got you into that genre? When was it and how did it happen?

I got into Rock music in 2002 when I first heard clips from the song "By the Way" by Red Hot Chilli Peppers on CNX. I loved the song and the Chillis are still one of my favorate bands today. After that I heard Blink 182: I Miss You and Lostprophets: Last Train home and I was hooked for life. Mainly because the whole enargy and attitude majorly cheered me up after I had gone through a depression! I also like Crush 40: Open Your Heart from SA1 when I got DX for the GC. Now I am a true Rock 'n' Roll fan, but I havn't forgoten the songs that got me into the genre.

But what about you? What got you into the music genre you enjoy?

I grew up listening to alot of old school stuff...so i still listen to that kinda thing but my prefered would be hard rock/ Heavy metal.

I first got into that stuff in middle school...when i came back for Germany to the states i was veiwed as kinda an odd kid, so i kinda got depressed, and started listening to harder and hard music. Now I love all most any kind of music (except rap and country), but Heavy metal and hard rock just make me feel better cause it helps tell me that im not alone in my dark attitude toward everything.

My cousin introduced me to bands such as Iron maiden and Black sabbath.. I guess that pretty much fueled my hunger for more rock music..

Well, like some people, during the "boy band" and "girl band" era (aka 90s), I was into that pop music (Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc etc). But strangely, I also like rap music which just came out then... Like Tupac. =/ Strange mix, eh? And better yet, I was what? 8? 9? Meh, something around there. xD And musicals like Cats or Annie, I was also really into those (broadway type) songs.

Then most of my music influence is like my sister's; rock. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Green Day, Hole, etc.

RnB and rap later was producing more songs, so I like that kind of music too. And when I started watching anime a couple years back, I really liked Jpop and Jrock songs (so basically Japanese songs), and I'm still into them.

But when I watch movies, I also like their soundtracks. Intrumental types.
As well as that, I also like hip hop beats. Just random ones (like the ones from Samurai Champloo). And I also like beat-boxing tunes too.

I'm also into lots of alternative and punk music. Do I really need to get into all that? :p:

AND (omg, here I go again), jazz and country isn't really my prefered music genre, but I listen to them because in school heaps of jazz performances are always made...

I've enjoyed dance electronic music when I was young. Back in 1998, I first heard ATB's first single, "9PM Till I Come", that song got my hooked into trance music. Since then I've liked trance. Somewhere in 2003, I started checking out harder dance music, like hardstyle and hard trance. Since then I've been listening to that everyday, even today. Right now I'm listening to some hard trance track.

hmm for a while i liked rap..ish music and hip hop because my sister pretty much made me listen to it i mean i still like it today but not very much.
then i was channel surfing on the radio one day and i heard metallica and i loved it o man it was soo good to me and i just kept listening and then i got into led zepplin and from there i got into the newer bands as they came around like korn and deftones. ahhh i love rock music and my taste has now progressed to many different variations of rock.

i grew up with hip hop and hardcore rap and was always interested in metal when i heard some KoRn songs... once in high school i got into punk rock... and liked the screams some bands had like Taking Back Sunday... then I just had to urge to listen to heavier stuff and found myself watching Headbanger's Ball on MTV2 one day and was just simply blown away by what I have been missing... I completely left punk and jumped into metalcore and expanded to liking that, death/power metal... now you can catch me jamming to Unearth, Behemoth, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom and a whole bunch of double-ass kicking bands.... (heh I still hold to some hardcore rap like Wu-Tang, Cannibus, Gravediggers... )

I like techno and electronic. But I love scratch cause of what I do. I got to DJ in middle school and ever since then scratching has been it for me. I also like oldschool rap cause yah gotta be able to mix back then. Also R&B cause yah can make very cool and mellow sounds. But Clasic rock is second to scratch and electronic cause my dad is a old timer so I always listend to his music ever since I was a small boy

Suprisingly, I dont particularly have a genre of music that I listen to because I love so many different genres and I can appreciate them but before that? Well,i was a pop lover haha but what made me the sorta music lover that I am now? Mm, I guess it came with the influnce of new friends and my parents. Raised to appreciate classical music, traditional music from my roots (and other countries). Friends with rock and techno music. I developed an interest for other genres soon after like country, world, jap, korean, reggae etc.

Fuse is awesome ^_^ that's where I get introduced to most of the new songs out there

My cousin was the one who basically got me introduced to the genre first though.

Ironically enough AMV’s  I watched some DBZ AMV’s a while back that were done to Linkin Park, so I tracked down the band and enjoyed the genre, so I went and sought out more bands in the rock scene. The rest is history!

When I was younger my favorite music was rap I used to listen it all days wear baggy clothes and stuff back then my mother lived with some guy he was a big Pink Floyd fan he had the whole discography on cd's and on vinyl if I'm not wrong so I borrowed The dark side of the moon from him but back then I didn't like it the long songs not many words I found it boring so i sticked too rap after I grew up a little the whole rap music started to iritate me so I went to a friend got a few Cds from System of a down, Korn, linkin park, not counting SOAD the rest was really bad.

And then one day I went to my mother she still was with this guy and he asked me "Hey Daniel how come your pants are normal ? " I replied that rap started to irritate me the whole popularity, most of the new cds that I got my on were bad so I'm lookin for something new. So he borrowed me "the dark side of the moon" again but this time i fell in love with it I borrowed all of his cds ripped them listen to every track couple times and I tried soad again needless to say I listen to the first song and deleted soad of my pc.

Than some friends from IRC hooked me on other prog bands gave me a good site with prog cds review and now I'm a big prog fan, and out of all bands that I heard Pink Floyd are my favorite band.
