Yea, I said metal because I wasnt sure how in-depth people on this forum are. Most of them are metalcore your right. Actually Im a fan of grindcore to, the local bands where I live are mostly grindcore-ish bands and I love them. I've never listened to big grindcore bands other then Napalm Death (they're grindcore..right?) so what are some good grindcore bands I could check out?

There're some good local grindcore where I live too, you might have heard of The Heartland? They're from where I live, umm... no other notable ones.

Lol All bands have their own way of playing Metal, maybe they are Metalcore to u but not for me. In Flames for example said that the play modern Metal. and have u ever heared of Sacrilege? wouldnt think so, cause they were not famous at the time the existed.
But nwm, the difference between Metal and Metalcore isnt very big, nearly the same thing. to say they are different is like saying pink is singing Metal while Jlo singing classical ^^

Define real metal:face82:
It's all about your own style really. If everyone chose a generic genre to play in it would really not sound good.. Most of the good bands nowadays get labeled as what they are afterwards (there are exceptions -_-), and as music is very different from band to band, there is no "real metal" perse. It's really all in the eye of the beholder :winking56

I don't really like metal myself, I just noticed that most people were posting a lot of metalcore, I can't define real metal, because I don't enjoy listening to it, so my description would be way off.
Metalcore is pretty much metal mixed with hardcore, as the name would suggest, it is a bit heavier, tends to have "screaming" in it, but has a metal sound to it.
I don't really like the suffix core or the word screaming, they tend to be associated with emo, without exception or thought before hand.

I LOL'd.
There is no metalcore. There is no "hardcore".
There is only metal.
Metal has different subgroups, but it's all metal.

Hardcore is pretty much a subdivision of metal, which has subdivisions in itself, I've just been pointing out that this thread is called "Favorite Metal Bands," although half the things aren't actually metal... metalcore isn't far from metal, but hardcore is, I don't like either.
Btw, don't reply to me, I'm out of this here conversation, I don't care much for metal, so I won't post here anymore.
Thanks for disagreeing, it gave me something to do.

Metal is like beer, you can not try one of them and have tried them all. As for the Debate on Metalcore, well, lets just say I believe that Metalcore is well, a subgenre of Metal that is relatively new to the genre.

I agree metal is a genre but their are different parts to it and well the main part to it is what is called metall which its bands by todays standards are more so A7X but the more Known " Metall" bands are Iron maiden metallica Megadeth etc. NOT LAMB OF GOD
OR MASTADON.
SumpfFuchs
07-17-2006, 05:05 AM
But you have to take into account, Iron Maiden has been around since 1975, Metallica formed in the late 1970's also, I would like to say 79 or so, but I really am not sure, whil Mastodon* (>.<) has only a single album out, and Lamb of God only has 3 albums and a new one comming out in august starting in 2000. Bands like Mastodon and Lamb of God, plus many more metal bands are more under the radar where you really dont hear about them exept from word of mouth recommendations rather then hearing them on the radio and such.

When I think of metal, I don't think of anything new, what are some newer metal bands? Recommend me some, I can't say that what I listen to has been around more than 5-10 years, so different time frames aren't a problem for me... I don't think it is on the radio... or TV... or anything... not many people like/talk about it, I don't remember how I found it... crazy... Oh well, ^^. /spam much? I do.

For REALLY new Metal Bands, I would check up on Trivium, being they seem to be a really well upcomming band, and will be big in the future, Mastodon has got good stuff too. If you like real hard stuff check out Caliban and Bury Your Dead. Also a older band but VERY unique is Soulfly, if you like unique usage of drums I would suggest checking them out.
Cursive
07-17-2006, 05:23 AM
I'll try those, I don't seem to find any likings in metal much though, I like uniqueness but in a quite different way, I enjoy having no repeated parts in a song, different throughout, I see singing as an instrument, the lyrics don't matter as much to me the heavier it gets, only how it blends to the rest of the music, I don't think small groups are better than very large, I like to have a lot of things going on at once, but then also be organized and harmonized, quite complicated... but my point is, metal isn't much like that, usually.
SumpfFuchs
07-17-2006, 05:31 AM
From what you just said, you may want to check out Devildriver also, they do a good job of incorporating their growls and such into the music itsself and at least in my opinion, they are able to keep a very orangized sound going between their guitarists and drummer.

Yea, just checked, they formed in 1981 and released their Kill'Em'All album in 1983. Of which fits perfectly thinking about it with the creation of Megadeth and the accusations of Mustaine's material still being used in Metallica after he left and such.

Ah man, metal. Probably the broadest genre EVER. Anyone can find what they want in metal. If you really dig into the genre, you can find absolutely amazing bands. I've been listening to a lot of of black metal and death metal recently, but here are some of my favorite bands, in no particular order (except for Opeth :D):
Opeth, Death, Suffocation, Venom, Athiest, Wintersun, Demilich, Burzum, Darkthrone, Finntroll, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrisy, Coroner, Kreator, Diabolical Masquerade, Edge of Sanity, Entombed, Ulver, Exhorder, Fejd, Destruction, Bolt Thrower, Cynic, Pain of Salvation, Gorguts, Into Eternity, Katatonia, Demigod, Bloodbath, Moonspell, Daylight Dies, Candlemass, Cathedral, Amorphis, Arcturus, Anathema, Arsis, Grand Belials Key, Immortal, Helstar, Lykathea Aflame, and Nevermore.
I know, huge list. You could look at this and see just metal bands, or you could see individual musical genius. Each one of these bands sounds very different from each other, and that's whats so great about metal. If you listen to jazz, rap, pop, blues, or any other genre, you won't find as much diversity as you can find in metal. Metal is like a blend of all other genres and making it heavier. Take Athiest, for example. They blend jazz rythmn and chord changes with heavily distorted guitars and a penetrating double bass. Now Finntroll, another example. They incorporate polka into their music. Arcturus and Burzum have many electronic influences. All these bands are very original, and that is hard to find in any other genre today.

There is no questioning... it just isn't. Neither are some other people I've seen mentioned in here. But, there are so many sub-divisions of metal, that you cannot quite classify one thing as not metal, as almost every group is a little metal.
Korn or SoaD or Linkin Park, for instance, are all quite numetal, still metal, but when most would think of metal they would think old metal.
Really I could say The Number Twelve Looks Like You is my favorite metal band, seeing as they are mathmetal, but they are so many other things also, that I wouldn't really want to mention them here, I think this is just a thread filled with flaws any way you look at it.
Icchy <3

Well, some of these songs might not be metal, because i'm not good at classifyng music, but I will give this a try.
First of all, my fave metal band is Slipknot, as many of the people who know me in the Randomness would know.
I like Slipknot because they have one of my fave drummers in the world in the band.
Secondly, System Of a Down.
I really love this band mainly for the style of the band. The singers are really impressive and I think they are great.
Lastly, Drowning Pool.
Now, Drowning Pool arn't may fave metal band because I don't really like all of there songs. The only songs I like from Drowing Pool are "Bodies" and "Sinner".

Should I even keep complaining about people and not knowing that what they're posting is not metal? Unless this were the "Favorite Numetal Bands," then I think most of this thread would be there, it get's annoying... and I'm not even a fan of metal, I just love to b*tch about people knowing nothing about music. I think metal is generally too slow, though I do like Iron Maiden a bit, namely for the pitch, I enjoy more high-pitched music.
