:eek13: reason.
first of all here is the video on it
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pBKqX_V_jRg&search=exploding%20dell
dell's responce is that the battery caused the explosion
edit: and i heard that they are "more explosive" on the lap due to the heat of the body

i cant really say that people shouldnt buy dell from that, it proberly overused alot since it was a conference. judge by that my teachers have dell laptops and so my friend, they been using like 2 years? nothing happen, so i cant really judge it from one single exposion.

Dell laptops are the best man...my XPS is great. Like Lunar said, that one was probably overused.
Plus, you can't base Dell Laptops' integrity based on one event. Like the reporter said, there's always a small risk of fire with every laptop due to the battery. Dell just got unlucky and a 1-in-a-million fire happened on one of *their* laptops. Now if there were more explosions/fires, then i'd be concerned.

hmm, ive had mine for about 6 months, i think its been turned off maybe a dozzen times, and it has yet to blow up.
it was a totally random bad battery deal, ive seen this happen in laptops, cell phones, portable games, the power adapter for my friends xbox 360 caught fire shortly after he got it.

Well, I personally stay away from any Dell product. Its cheap goods put together that was meant to last about 3 years so they can mass produce and sell it at a lower price.

Dude, I use Dell laptops and I sell them. They’re one of the best makes on the market in my opinion, and one or two freak incidents doesn’t change it. Anyone who reads a manual for any laptop they buy will know that they should keep the thing off flat surfaces and keep it slightly raised if it is on a flat surface because the battery overheats if it doesn’t get ventilation.

my lappy is dell inspiron 6000
the only thing i hate about it is when itneeds fixing the company will take about 10 days to determine what is the problem even if you tell them and then amonth or two to fix it
that is from personal experience
but explosion..never experiened it though and hope WILL never do >.<

Dell makes slap together with whatever is cheapest to buy within the current trend in computing units.
this does not mean they are crappy or dangerous but on occasion those less expensive parts are crappy. example the 20,000 recalled laptops with questionable batteries.
many of the cheapest items out there are made by the best manufacturers but in some cases renamed and sold dirt cheap (tends to get rid of excess stock that wont get used otherwise.)
personally I don't like Dell because its the McDonald's of computing but that's simply because their systems don't meet my wants.
as far as being dangerous to own! not very likely you'll see your Dell laptop go *BOOM* but they do have an increasing number of melt and burn incidents going on file when they reach the 1/1000 mark then you can call them dangerous they probably stand somewhere around 1/100,000 that have a critical failure.
My dell laptop is probably 1 year old+ and I got the good deal (50% off, -750 dollars). Its still powerful today except the video card (Geforce 5200 FX :/). You always have to watch overheating problems on laptop, and get that dust off handy \o/

all laptops and computers can combust if overheated, but its more easily done in laptops coz its harder to get the heat out, and its also confined in a smaller space. dell just had god wedge a anal plug into their asses, aint much they could do abt it.

Get good computer sources on Dell Deals. Dell usually pop out their -750 coupon in the morning during random times

if you take care of your laptop, it should work perfectly fine, for a long while too....

I think this exploding problem and many other computer problems aren't just Dell. For those of us who don't have a lot of knowledge about a computer, which is like 99.9999% of the people, any computer problem sucks because we don't know how to fix it. Now, the problem with Dell is, it's highly exposed and very popular, much like Microsoft. If you bought a small brand computer, and it had problems, you don't go around saying that my "so-and-so" computer broke for no reason, so don't buy it. Usually, you'd just think that this is what happens when you buy a cheap small brand computer. Dell computers however, owns a huge share of the computer market, and therefore those who own a Dell will be quick to judge.
In the end, you usually pay for what you get. If you paid a high price, then you'll get something good, if you paid little, you'll usually get something worse. If Dell had amazing quality and tech support, then the price you paid for your computer would be higher. It's simply a matter of values, do you want a cheaper computer, or do you want a computer that has a lower chance of having problems.
