what is the meaning of renji's tatoo? [Archive]

hmmm ive been wondering for too long here,,what exactly is the meaning of renji's tatoo?coz in the early years of his shinigami years he doesnt have it right?or is it...

When we saw him in the past, he didn't have tattoos, or not much, at least. But later on, he got more and more tattoos. I heard from somewhere that with every achievement Renji attains, his tattoos will increase as well.

The guard of his zanpakutou also has the same zig-zag marks as his tattoos. That could have been an inspiration for them.

I believe that the tatoos are linked to his Zanpakutou. As his connection with the sword increase, so do the tatoos.

Notice that when he wa young, he had none, then slowly, the more he connected to Zabimaru, the more tatoos were created on his body.

That kid put the tatoos there because he admires Renji and wants to be like him, so he copied his tatoos.

As for Renji's eyebrows, I believe he always had them.

His eyebrows were always there as far as I know... Rukia at one stage tells Renji that he has funny eyebrows, so I should think that that's his eyebrows, not tatoos on his forehead

i think it's because his eyebrows are really connected with his power or achievements. it's because when he was just a child, he isn't that powerful and he doesn't have the same potential that he is showing now with his zanpakuto and own shinigami powers. :biggrinlo

its not a permanent tattoo.... sometimes the design changes...

i guess he does that for the heck of it...he looks cooler that way...and the tattoos on his forehead...thats to conceal his forehead... :D

I think they're there beyond his will, and more come each time he progresses with Zabimaru.

With the way that he keeps wearing bandanas/sunglasses/etc, I'm thinking he might even be a little ashamed with his eyebrows/tattoes being like that.

His eyebrows were normal when he joined the Shinigami school and when he was attacked by huge hollows in the real world. When Rukia got adopted, he got a tattoo that looks like a second set of eyebrows zig-zaging up. I don't know if theres another stage since the next time chronologically we see Renji is when he first fights Ichigo. If the tattoos are based off Zabimaru or personal success he should have gotten more tattoos when he achieved bankai.

but what about that kid in his division that always likes to follow renji around and stuff. that kid has tats on his euebrows just like renji. also when renji first entered the academy he didn't even know his zanpaktu's name but he did start have tats where his eyebrows used to be. just something to think about

If you're talking about Rikichi (that one kid in the 6th division) he wants to be like Renji so he tattoos himself.

Renji on the other hand, I don't think he has a say in the matter of his tattoos.

And if you noticed, the tattoos are correlated with Zabimaru and the appearance of his zanpakutou. The interconnecting zigzags and stuff.

IMO, it's totally just a cosmetic decision. From the flashback episodes of Renji's days in the academy, they just became a part of his character design as he got older. I guess you could think of it as like... warrior markings.

Not sure... I always thought it was zanpakutou exclusive and depended on the zanpakutou.

But what about Shuuhei, he's gotten tattooes over the years as well. Maybe that's linked with his zanpakutou as well... whatever it may be.

when renji joined the academy he didnt have any tattoos but as he went up a rank or seat in a division, he added a tattoo to himself as a sorta symbol to show him he went up a rank or seat so it does kinda have meaning to him other then to look cool... i think thats wat the tattoos mean

The lines are scars from when he fought the first huge hollow. The left side of his face was all bloody when Hinamori, Renji, and Kira saved him and thats where his lines are now.

i agree with the idea that renji gets a tattoo every time he achieves something. although what people are saying about the tattoos having to do with zabimaru is worth thinking about. i never noticed the markings on zabimaru..

but in one episode, sorry i don't remember which one, when renji and rukia are at school and they're running to class because they're late (renji was sleeping in a tree), rukia says "what kind of person tattoos his eyebrows, anyways?" so i just assumed he did it himself.
