Soul slayers previous owners?

Does anybody else think that soul slayers might have had previous owners? I ask this because when Ichigo first released his shikai, Tessai seemed to recognize his sword. Then Byakuya knew the name of Ichigo's bankai attack as if he had seen it before or read about it.

Don't know about Tessai's comment but Byakuya just commented on the color of the Getsuga Tenshou by saying "Black getsuga" not the name of the attack.

Soul Slayers are given different names and shikais/bankais according to the owner and his reiatsu.

He didn't say anything. Just that the shocked look on his face while Jinta was saying what good a sword without a guard or hilt is led me to belive that he has seen that sword before.

Maybe Tessai was still in shock as to what happened in the hole.

It might be possible.... but I doubt it, since zanpakutous seem so... connected to their owners and such.

I dont think that a zanopukto has something like a previous owner , but maybe if you follow the circle of rebirth you can have the same soul slayer again. Because of the fact that shinigami live nearly forever , and ichigo is only 15 , he might have died in SS and have been reborn. But I doubt that Tessai knew him at all , he was just shocked about the hole stuff and the wierd look of his sword i guess.

Right… A Zanpakutou is a concentration of the wielders reiatsu and a manifestation of the truest part of their souls… So no, I do not think that a shinigami will have a previously owned Zanpakutou unless they are reincarnated or something :p

A Soul Cutter cannot be passed down nor given or taken from its owner. The reason is that Soul Cutters aren't just swords, neither are they tools. A Soul Cutter is a part of its owner, the manifestation of their soul's power. Thus, you can only pass a Soul Cutter to another if you can pass your soul to that person... which is of course impossible.

Shockingly, yes. None can use another's Zanpakutou.

am not sure whether this has been mentioned but apparently when Hitsugaya was born, a skilful ice type zanpakutou wielder has jst die, giving him a bigger probability as a genius...

however, it seems like souls that die in SS is reincarnated on earth and earth sould go to SS and so on... thats why my this thoery isnt complete... damn...

I think that the zanpakuto follows it's owners.. because
1. A Soul Cutter is a part of its owner, the manifestation of their soul's power.
2. In the MANGA, it said that the zanpakuto has the same personality as it's owner, so it would be impossible for another person to use a zanpakuto who has been used before eg. Matsumoto said that her zanpakuto was stupid (like her), Yumichika said that his zanpakuto thought it was the most beautiful thing (like him)(sorry... i dont know how to work the spoiler thing...
3. People would have the same bankai... which is weird...

I reckon there is a possibility that a zanpaktou can be passed down, but not straight away after its owner dies.

I feel that once the owner dies....it will free the guy in zanpakto....in turn the owner will replace. Like a cycle....you relied on me, next time you must return my favour to the next owner.

i dont think u can lend yur soul slayer to someone else... or else u will see ppl claiming each other's soul slayer if they defeat them... a soul slayer is actually a condensed form of a person's spirit power remember???

Yes indeed, when ichigo had rukia soulslayer he couldn't shikai/bankai so probably in normal katana i could be wield by someone else, I think, Maybe when you die your soulslayer and his power goes to that fakeichigo which he needed to fight to get zangetsu back. And he creats new soulslayers with the power of the old ones!

how do you tell tessai is shock? but sure he is shock cos the great explosion, or he was surprised that ichigo archieve his shikkai in so fast? and more i've known is zampakuto is a part of the shinigami's riatsu means that zangetsu is ichigo's strength. Ishida said shinigami use their power by forming their riatsu into a zampakuto. hmm

i doubt that it's possible to have someone own another's soul slayer because just like what you guys have said.. zanpakutos are part of their weilders and they are formed by their owner's reiatsu, personality, etc.

Tessai did NOT recognize Ichigo's Zanpakuto, but yet he was astonished due to the immense Reiatsu pouring out of it even though Jinta said that it was an incomplete blade.
