View Full Version : Do animals have souls?
This is the one thing that bugged me about church and one of the main reasons I refuse to believe in a God.
Do animals have souls?
The church says no, 'God wouldn't allow it.'
Let me just say if a 'God' didn't allow me to spend eternity with my loving pets I would rather not go to heaven.
Anyone agree with me on this?

So, you would rather go to Hell? Double negatives kill sentences.
Refuse all you want, truth will slap you one day.
I believe animals do have souls. I agree with John Paul II(WHO BELIEVED IN A GOD).
" … Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth."
also the animals possess a soul and men must love and feel solidarity with our smaller brethren

I believe souls are the invisible energy that make living things run. LIke robots and electricity. So I believe animals also have souls.

I believe that do. I mean, if you think along the lines of Re-incarnation, if you believe in that, then not everyone get's reincarnated as a human, some as animals. It might also be a way to explain some of the characteristics and maneurisms we share as something more than simple reaction and instinct.
WAY Too many 1 liners. Even the longer posts seem kinda short. I know what I'm saying is ironic, but please make the debates a section to be in, and not another "Randomness" section.
Thanks and have a good evening.

The thing is, this really isn't a debate. More of an opinionated topic.

I'd rather not exist anywhere if I couldn't spend the rest of the after life with my pets, that's what I meant. Forgive the double negetive but I was rather upset about one of our baby rabbits died horribly, okay?

I still don't think i'm understanding this: You don't believe in a God because someone told you that "God wouldn't allow it"?

Not exactly...I just don't like the idea that I have my life 'dictated' by something I can see and have no proof of, I come from a scientific faimly so I question everything. This isn't the only thing that leads me to believe there is no God as such. There might be something but I refuse to call it a God. But I don't mess in religion because it generally messes with potential friends. What I believe is what I believe.

i also think that animals have souls. humans are animals and the only difference between them is that humans have the ability to think(intelligence) while the animals just base their acts upon their instinct. also, anyone who has a life must have a soul in order for it to continue living. :)

I do not believe in god, nor spirits or souls. But if you believe that humans have souls, then why don't animals have them? This 'God' made 'all living things', and if he didn't give animals a soul, that would mean he is discriminating. If the church doesn't allow animals, it would mean that 'God' is a racist, that he 'favors one over another' which would make him unfair. However, "All things are equal in 'the lord's' eyes" or something like that is written in the bible, but if animals don't have souls, they would not be 'equal'.

I believe my dog is a reincarnation of my previous dog that passed away. (I'm not kidding) My new dog was born 3 weeks after my old dog died. Aside from looking the same and acting the same, They both have all the same character flaws and quirks. And react the same to the same situations. And they both have a birth mark in the exact same spot. All my friends think the thought of it is rediculous and most of you probably will too. But if you knew both dogs like I do then you would probably agree with me.

Yeah I believe that animals have souls. I also believe plants have souls, and important inanimate objects (like the statue of liberty, or a keepsake) has souls.
Im not joking.

Well, a soul in my opinion is the driving force for a body to move. Otherwise it'll be an immobile empty corpse. So in a sense yes I think they have souls/spirits or something that makes them live on as they are :).

Humans are Animals, it is just that we feel that we are more superior so that we call ourselves Humans and inferiors Animals, so that in this case animals have souls as well...

No animals don't have souls, neither do humans. Because there is no soul!

i like to believe animals have souls...but then again it raises another weird but relevant question, does that mean plants also have souls? (since they're alive too)...any comments?
The sad thing is that I believe they too have that soul we so much seek to explain, too bad as I ate my hamburger I thought not of the cow that was violently slain because religion tells me they are fine, cause they belong to man as God supposedly said so, it is really pathetic oftentimes, how much we so prioritize ourselves among the many beings that are too, share the similiar earth and breath the similiar air. I can say this much, if only it didn't exist.

Because those emotions are controlled by electrical impulses from the brain? Thats all we are, a biologic entity, that has grown to feel, and thats all they are to.

I think the important thing for this debate to really function is to define what exactly a soul is. It's very subject metaphysical material whose definitions vary from person to person . If you wanna define a soul as an electromagnetic aura or something of that nature, which is the best thing we have to proving the existance of a soul, then yes. Dogs and all animals have souls.

I believe all living things have souls or spirits, including plants. I agree with the first poster in this topic who said that he/she'd rather not go to heaven if our pets can't be there too.
I don't believe in Hell, or the traditional view of Heaven. I believe in reincarnation and eventually the soul becomes one with the divine. ALL souls.
