One of the most sad books I've ever read. It's basically about this young boy suffering from child abuse. But, it's based on a true story. One of the most nastiest child-abuse cases ever. It's easy to read. It took me a day and at fourteen, I'm seeing some 17+ on this site so..Yeah a few hours for you guys maybe.

I haven't read the book, but it's sitting outside in the corrider bookshelf. It's my sister's book, and she left it here, but I haven't been bothered to read it. There's also other Dave Pelzer books, The Lost Boy, A Man Named Dave and another one. I was wondering, are they sequel to each other (and have you read them)?
Now that this thread is up, I'll read the book sometime by the end of this week and try to get back to this thread. It's one of my sister's favourite books, and I always thought it was quite... mature for me, but I'll read it sometime anyway.
Edit:
Ok, I just finished reading Chapter 4: The Fight for Food. My thoughts so far? I am disgusted. I think it's disgusting how his mother is treating him: lower than dirt. I feel sorry for Dave because his mother is a complete mofo *****, and his father is a wuss. I also CANNOT understand why she is doing this to him, and not even a slap to his two brothers (or should I say 3 brothers; including Russel).
I'll probably finish the book by the end of the day.
Edit 2:
So, as I said, I finished the book by the end of today. I finished it about an hour ago, and fortunately, I got online! hehe
But wow. I'm still shocked at how his mother treated him - like shit. Lower than shit really. But I still do not get why his mother only treats him that way and treats her other sons nicely. It's cruel and disgusting. One of the things which grossed me out was when the mother (who has the same name as me - Catherine) kept yelling at him to eat the shit from the diaper. But I must say, he is stronger than how I would put up with it - I would probably cringe and eat it.
And what I also thought was really cruel was when he was stabbed, his mother only cared for him for that short period of time, then the day right after, back to being the slave.
Another comment I must add is the hideous punishments given to Dave... Too many to write down. It's appalling. Really.

The book is very touching, indeed. Really sad. If you ever have the time, just read it - its short and easy to read, so if you're quite a fast reader, you'd finish it in less than 2 days, I think.

I read it along time ago, actually it is one of my favourites, the boy who happens to be the author himself wrote this book based on what happened to him,he even wrote another part called *aman named david* if i remember correctly..about what happened to him later and what his life turned to be
although the first part*achild called it*is better than the second part.but I hope that the author exaggrated alittle while writing because according to him the way his mother treated him was completely inhuman...and if he didn't exaggrate then I hope no child suffer as much as he did when he was still one..

Yeah... I began reading A Man Named Dave a while ago but it wasn't as interesting than A Child Called 'It', so I stopped. Hmm... I lose interest pretty quickly...
Isn't there also another book about his life after A Man Named Dave? And there's also The Lost Boy, if I can recall from the bookcase. My brother read it and he says that it isn't as good as A Child Called 'It'.

hey I read this alooong time ago> The mother was a total *****! and the childs father was even worse for just standing by and watching what his wife did to their son. The follow up " The Lost Boy" is also account chilling of abuse after his mother

while the rest is dull because it all depends on his life in the first book so its not that good ._.

I read that book when i was 12. Very interesting book I finished it the same day that i bought it, that's how addicting it was. I also read the other book that he wrote, The Lost Boy. I prefer A Child Called It though because the rest was boring.
I think the mother is very selfish. So is the father! The father is a fireman but can't even be a damn hero for his own kid.

i read and have all three books. a child called it, the lost boy, and a man named david. and i have to say when i read a child called it, i was apalled and disturbed. it made me wish i could go in the story and just beat up the mother for dave. no child should ever be treated like that.
but apparently there has been some talk saying that he made it up. and that it was all a publicity stunt. idk if its true or not, but if it is that is really messed up and if it's not true and he didn't make it up then whoever started those rumors is just a jack *** for ever saying something like that about someone's life
