Do girls like gamer guys? [Archive]

It depends. I'm a girl, and I'd go for a gamer guy if he wasn't crazily obsessed with them. Playing games here and there or watching anime together would be nice. But when it's a guy who spends 12+hours a day playing Everquest or WoW, and obsesses over it like it's his life is a huge turn off for me.

"Gamers" is such a wide group of people.

Justin Timberlake plays WoW (i think it was him) and Asia Carrerra (most guys know her :p ) plays computer games. You can't really group them as gamers. They're individuals who share the same hobby.

When you say gamers, do you mean pale/fat/socially slow/smart guys/girls? Or do you mean people who spend most of their free time playing a game. Or watching anime.

I dont think girls like these kinds of guys, but that is not because of the hobby - it's because of the social inactiviy that leads to the person's social problems. Not knowing how to speak to ladies, behave, etc. There are of course exceptions, as sasid, but I think this counts as a general rule.

Well that depends. My ex is a gamer and we get along just fine. That is if I spent too much time with the game or anime we have to make a stop to get our time together. But that depends on the level of obsession of the guy.

yes, it highly varies on that as well. One of my exes was very troubled with how much i played videogames, so i just went down to a couple hours a day. But she was dissatisfied with that. So it highly varies for the girl/guy you're dating.

anyhow, imho, it depends, like most have u have said. Because I have met girls who are gamers and are quite hawt ^_^;. So, it all depends on the level of the obsession, yes; and the fact that u are gona pick a game over ur girl.

lols. For me who is female, I particularly don't like gamer guys/anime watchers because the ones that I have met are overly obsessed with either =p But I'm not going to say, "Hey, you're a gamer! I don't like you!" because I like playing games and watching anime as well. By overly obsessed, I mean, like, talking about it nonstop. "Oh I reached level 60 with my troll mage yesterday. Then again, it's my hobby and I'm as obsessed (if not more so) than he is. I've noticed that most of my guy friends who are into anime/gaming tend to date girls that are also into those same things.

Same with the girls... they rarely date guys who aren't into anime/games.

I, for one, have never dated a guy who didn't watch Anime and play DnD and video games and Magic: The Gathering...

I think that it would depend on the extremeness of the gamer. The most extreme ones have the same social inteligence as ten year olds.
(Hardly think they'll be getting any soon). However, if a guy has video gaming as a "hobby" - by that I mean he plays every now and then, atleast not more than 2 hours a day - it shouldn't be a problem. Besides, it's all about how you act arround them, not what you do when your on your own.
For the anime wathcers, i don't think people care what you watch on the telly, or what you download on your computer. (unless it's some kind of nasty porno or something:rolleye09 )
But again, try not to get to extreme. And if the girls arround you don't like anime/manga, keep it to yourself. It's that simple :redbiggri

I think I have dated a broad spectrum of different types. My ex thought anime was the biggest waste of time and always tried to make me feel stupid for watching it. I would rather have someone to enjoy my hobbies with. So if you don't no what anime is don't waste your breath.

I played games too much, I played wow 8+ hours a day (i quit about 6 months ago) my girl hated me. The stupidest thing you can do is mmo while your in a relationship (I actually started before I met her but she said she didn't care) but it's mi bad for being ignorant and thinking it could work like that :P I stopped gaming altogether for her and she said I became boring...go figure right? *sigh* women.....she told me when we were workin it out that "you can take the gamer out of the game but can't take the game out of the gamer" and has since then let me build two new pc's so that we could play coh/cov together. she is being converted haha :)
so ya I think gamers acquire a different persona altogether from your ordinary average dude. and some chicks digg it. I get my kicks out of overclocking, anime, and bf2 for about an hour or two a day, the rest of the time I spend with her.

also goin against the advice of the dude above. Don't hide your hobbies, your interests, and what you do for entertainment from females. If you do it cuz your afraid she might think your a geek, F* it, screw her, tell her proudly you don't care if she thinks your a geek. Me and a bunch of other dudes will salute you for it. If you got to go around hiding what YOU like for her, it just aint worth it.

Well, I'll reverse the question and ask do guys like girls that are "profilers" (i.e myspace, xanga, online journals, etc)

They spend just as much time as gamers online updating and browsing through other people's profile.
i for one im not to fond of profilers. i cant see why they cant use the dam phone. . my brother girlfriend could be categorize as a profiler she goes from one blog to another messaging every one w/ some mundane topic. i honestly dont see the fun in blogging. . . is it supposed to be fun?wheres the excitement wheres the entertainment geez..

Whether or not the guy is a gamer doesnt really matter to me. But of course, since i'm a gamer myself who spends the whole weekend in front of the PC playing online games, it'll be good to have him in THAt game as well. He can help lvl up my character. :p

And if it is a long distance relationship, then of course, i would prefer a gamer. Dont know why.

IMHO, yes and no. In relation to what everyone's said in this thread, it depends on the person's hobbies and interests. In my spare time I play games/watch animes etc. etc. However, I don't get obsessed with it enough to ignore my priorities, and that's the factor that'll ultimately determine if a girl will like a guy or vice-versa. Gotta limit myself if I wanna have a social life. :p

As far as relationships go, I'm not a needy person. So I'm ok if they aren't with me 24/7 (In fact, better that way. Everyone needs space, and time apart!)
But if they are playing for ten hours every day, that might be a symptom of something else... and odds are they don't have a job, which is not desireable.
But yes, guys who game are ok :D

As long as playing games doest get it the way of the actual relationship, it shouldnt be a problem. If its only a couple of hours a day, then theres still lots of time to hang out, though if the dude keeps on his Pc for the whole day and has a gf (somehow) then it seems to me that being a gamer isnt his problem, its just that he doesnt really want to work at having a relationship.

in Hong Kong basically every single guy is a gamer no matter if he is also a jock or a study person.
here in australia i find that the guys act more manly and strong. i don't really know much about the western countries and the whole image of guys.
but in Hong Kong everyone i know is a gamer and reads manga and goes on the computer. maybe its the different enviroments but guys aren't afraid to be a bit sensitive.
so yes, i do like gamer guys , but most of the time it depends on the persons personality not if they play games or not. it may just be me but i find alot of the locals here think automatically, o ur a gamer u must be a nerd. i think thats really stupid.

It doesn't matter if you play games or not, or do the most nerdiest things. Its all about your attitude and your looks. If the girl is shady she'll go for your looks first. And if you have a shy attitude, don't expect a girl to like you, maybe if you look really good to her. I've had a lot of experience with girls and I do some of the nerdiest things like play games and watch anime.

Lol, generally speaking, I don't think that girls like "gamers", where that title goes to those who like to play games a lot. By a lot I mean they're a huge part of their life. Unless of course, this girl is also a gamer. Then of course, they would be perfect together.

BTW, guys who play WoW, EQ, and other MMO's generally don't display the same type of social deficiencies as the gamers who play other games all the time (I.E. Counter Strike, Halo, Oblivion, and other single-player games), due to the high level of social interaction that occurs between them and other people online in the game. In fact, gamers who play single player games most of the time have shown huge leaps in social confidence after engaging in an MMORPG.

I speak from experience here, guys & gals. Also, I've never had problems getting girls and keeping them. And I happen to be a pretty hardcore online gamer. :P

Thats not an acurate assumption at all i play counter strike,halo,graw etc and believe me i have no social deficiencies or any problems getting women.I play sports 3 times a week and i always go out clubbing with my mates but i'm also a very devoted gamer.

I play games in a friends house(halo,graw),in gaming centres(cs:s),in college(call of duty) alot of the time its a lan so i do be interacting with people constantly.

you are quite right, almost all the guys play videogames and stuff no matter who they are, but not all of them play to an extreme standard. Just a handful of people actually play 24/7.

Being an over-all- hardcore gamer, games are my around the clock intrest. Would a girl with no gaming background date a guy whos life is basicly centerd around this media. No probably not. But if the girl shared that sme intrest then maybe. You can be a gamer and play halo, WoW, Need for Speed, ETC.
But at the point where your embraceing the media not as a hobby but as a life style, then I think your realtion ship would be seriously isolated as far as intrest. But if the girl in return liked games even if its not to the extent of your devoution. It could still work.

I myself am a huge gamer and honestly wouldnt date a girl with no knowledge of games. Would the girl be intrested in me? Probably not. If your a big hardcore gamer, find a gamer girl. If your mainstream, dont worry about it. Girls have differnt prefeneces for men, there is no "Yes" or "No" conclusion that can be made.

It is very possible for a girl to like a guy who is a gamer and/or anime watcher. As many people before me have mentioned before, its ok as long as they dont go to the extreme. If you both share the same interest, Y~A~Y Good Job. It also depends on the girl if they can understand your interests and not put you down because you like them.

If you have to ask if girls like something, chances are the answer is no. Sure, if someone has a hobby in common, that'd probably be a plus. However, I don't think that just playing video games or liking anime will get a girl to like you and if that's what she likes about you, chances are you don't want to be in that relationship.

He likes anime but isn't as obsessed as I am. >.> I'm working on getting him started on Bleach, though. He's seen bits and pieces of it and liked it.

I dunno if I could be with a guy that didn't share at least a few interests with me. Of course yeah, I wouldn't want him to be sitting there, unshowered for a week playing WoW/EQ/whatever 24 hours a day, but like kaede822 said as long as there's balance it's okay. :D

Well... have to admit im a gamer and anime guy.
Sometimes i really overdo it, using a bit to much time at it, but what can i say i like good fiction. (big good adventures & Fantasy)

Could be just becorse i am me, but haven't really been like others even since kindergarten. Back then i would rather have my parents reading kid dictionarys rather then disney books.
My parents wern't much for my wishing list as a 5 year old: Egmontonia, Optimus Prime, Diploducus etc.(Dinoriders and Transformers mostly)

so to make a long story short: Always been facinatet by Stuff out of the everyday.(Meteors, Vulcanos, Spaceships, Aircrafts, History,Nature, Sport, Anime, Games etc.)

Point of the post: Never had a girlfriend. Except if you would call it that when you were 3-5 years old:rolleye09

Guess i like "freedom"* mayby a bit to much, still i can't say i have ever actually made an attempt to get a GF :rolleyes:

So only time will tell if i end up spending all my life as a single, for beeter or for worse.(must admit there would be some strong points having a partner: motivation, social life, to help pay bills etc.)

it depends on what girl you are going for or how many hours you stay at home to play games

A girl really likes a guy with a job so he can take care of her. The only anime I watch is Bleach and spend between 2-3 hours on the computer everyday(mostly at night). Then the rest of my day is basketball practice, work at foot locker, dance practice, and hanging with friends

If you are a lolife and watch anime all day than you will never get a girl seriously. I hang around with girls so take my word for it.

Just think about it. Imagine you are a girl. Would you date a guy who always stays home and do jack sh**.

All of the guys I've dated are gamers. :] Most of them watch anime/used to watch it.

To me, gamers are a plus/turn on. Whatever you wanna call it.
But then again, I'm a gamer/anime watcher. So of course I'd want a guy with atleast a few common interests. Andd, I digg cute nerds. <3

BUT, I'm a bit shallow and they have to atleast look cute to me for it to work.

I reckon that it's all good if a guy's a gamer cause it could be a turn on for some, or their personalities are great enough for them to interact with girls however the guy should be able to draw the line of spending time with his girlfriend or spending too much time infront of the screen. Some girls don't get this fact so they reject it almost immediately. I, personally do not mind gamers, just as long as they dont go talking in terms or l33t all the time. What my guy friends often try is to get the girl interested in gaming. I've been gaming consoles nearly all my life and I enjoy it but the thing is with computer games like Wow or Counterstrike. XD I was brought lanning with some of my guy friends and I kicked their arse in CS and Battlefield haha. One thing a girl can do, suprise the guy and beat him at his own game =P

As for anime watchers, erm, you wouldnt be here if didnt like it in some way. Most of the guys I know in school don't watch anime but its' no biggie seeing how we can talk about other things.

As to what desuka said, I totally agree. Its fine to be able to say about a "hot" character and spend on those things every so often however but yeah, gotta be able to hold a conversation on other things and spend a little bit on your girlfriend, if not through presents, at least through quality time (you wont be doing much of that if you buy a new game haha)

I think being a gamer is secondary to actually liking someone. I mean, I know people who are initially atracted to certain other kinds of people, but it doesn't mean they get along with everyone. I knew this girl who played a lot of halo, but she was an idiot. I play a lot of halo, but It was by no means a perfect match.

If a girl is going to diss a guy for liking anime, she's pretty damn shallow, IMO.

Damn right that she'd be shallow! A girl who persecutes guys for their hobbies has issues, maybe a whole subscription! Anyway, there generally is a fairly small perecntage of girls who go for gamers, but a huge portion may not have even heard of anime ant then get into it because of who they are dating. That's a bigger percentage compared to only gamer girls, so technically all girls have varying potential to go for gamer guys.

You know what, I have heaps of girl friends but I also have some different kinds of guy friends. Actually almost all of them dont really watch anime which is a bit sad for me because I'm a little bit into the whole anime world, but hey I still luv em. And also theyre all really into gaming, which ofcourse u can understand, but they're really smart as well and lovely to talk to, we talk about things that I had no idea was true and u know lots of fascinating conversations. And most of them have their girlfriends as well, thats why I'm going to say that gamer guys are LOVED!!! Maybe not for the fact that theyre gamer guy although it could be, but for the fact that they are "guys" full-stop!!

But I have to admit I did have a nasty experience with a certain gamer type guy, and it wasnt very good, but I'm not about to shun gamers away just coz of that. Its just that u'll find most girls are a bit too shallow and really dont understand this concept, and I really only seem to be attracted too them (so far) ...

So theres a much larger percentage out there who probably fancy u guys without u knowing it, its all personality... So get out there and get em!!

I am sure there are decent girls out there who like gamer guys, even girls who game themselves and indulge in anime like bleach. there is nothing wrong with guys who watch anime, we people are normal too.

havnt had time to read the whole thread, but, im a gamer, (1000 hours on wow and 200 hours on CSS (amongst other games with 5-15 hours, fomr the past 18 months, which is quite abit) and im not boasting, but i have no trouble getting women, i dont play games while they are here, apart from when ruth is here, cos shes a cute gamer chick, ee a love that girl to bits lol. anyway, aye, i dont have trouble, but that might because i have an abundance of self confidence (not arrogance though), i guess, if you dont bring it into the relationship, or let it reduce the time u spend with your partners, it shouldnt be a problem at all.

You know, I believe it's true just because watching anime or playing games is just like any other interest. You don't necessarily have to like the same things to like the person, y'know.

Anyway, I think being a gamer is neat--not that I pounce on people at Gamestop or anything. It's just neat. However, on occasion, I have smiled at a couple of cute guys while browsing in the manga section at Borders,but they might have been lost. I'm not sure. ;3

In real life I havent foudn very many girls who like gaming. Most of the people at my school are all total idiots and care about their looks. Ive only met like......10 or so girls who like anime at my school and even less who like gamers.

As for me..Im a gamer and obviously I like anime. I do love gaming, but if I have a girl over at my house (which I never do) i tend to ask her about things that I know she likes or in other words I keep my hands off the anime and games unless they want to see it.

Im not totally obssesed with games or anime either. A few hours a day is the extent of my gaming life (except when I got Twlight Princess 10 hours after school I played that gmae the first day I got it...) and as for anime, its also another thing I watch just for a little bit each day. Most times now I dont even play gmaes or watch anime though. It just never finds the right time to come into my head.

i dun mind a gamer guy if that game can be played together, like some MMORPG or multilayer games. And also he choice and taste of games (if theres no multilayer options it better be observer friendly XP) and his obsession of the games, unless i am more obessed to him than he is to his game i prob turn a blind eye to everything >_>; (if i ever do this in life someone kill me or knock me out thank you )

It would be nice to find a guy with a great personality and nice looks who does have an interest in anime/gaming, but just an interest, not an obsession. Anime/manga/gaming is one of my many many maaany hobbies, but its not everything. I reaaallly do not like talking about anime all the time, its really annoying. I'd like someone that likes that stuff but is willing to talk about other things even more, and for goodness sakes... those poor nerdy guys need to learn its a major TURN OFF to try to talk to a girl about something she has no idea about yet to talk like she does/should. Most of us probably don't have a clue about this or that boss on some phantasy star online game and what item you got by doing this... if I HAVEN'T PLAYED THE STUPID GAME THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HECK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, AND ONCE I TELL YOU THAT STFU!!!

Honestly this one guy I know goes on and on about this crap on games I've never even heard of and then will gripe about not having a girlfriend in the same breath (and seriously ,anime and gaming is ALL he talks about!) and gee I WONDER WHY?! >.<

Some people at school treat me like crap because I talk about anime/gaming stuff alot.... its only because no one will talk about anything else. I have a huge list of stuff I like to talk about and a huge list of stuff I don't like talking about. Who is wearing what is not on the list of talkable subjects...

And I am seriously tired of the scary nerdy guys hitting on me.... I am not an uber-nerd. Online anime/gaming chat is fine by me, but offline it really, reaaallly gets tiring...

I'd say it defenately depends on what type of girl it is^^. If for example it's an Anime watching girl it's likely she'd want to date an Anime watching boy since you've got a shared interest then and it's easier to begin with conversation. Same thing with a gamer girl. Of course I'm only talking about majoritys and not every single girl. But then there are those kinds of girls who don't care what interest a guy has as long as he looks good. If you aren't good looking - forget it. Anyway in general it always depends on wether two persons match or not.

I voted "no" btw because the majority of girls doesn't like them since they think it's creepy^^.

Hmm, this is an interesting topic. Speaking as a guy, I would think girls would like gamer guys if she has the same interest. If anything, they would get along better as long as the guy puts her before the games.

As for me, I would love having a gaming girl, I think those are the best type of girls for me as long as they aren't bitchy, crazy, or look weird. If the girl is competitive, that's even better since I'm a pretty competitive guy when it comes to gaming, actually, not just gaming but with sports as well, haha. I like games a lot but I'm not obsessive about them, but I can't live without it either, lol. But yeah, I also like being able to go out as well with the girl and not stay in all day, I like to go out to other places as well and do other things with the girl. BUT, if there is a game that came out that I'm REALLY interested in, I won't stop playing the game until I beat it, so it would be expected I would stay in home almost the whole day or several days until I finish that game dammit! Not even sex will stop me from playing... ok, I'm lying, I'll make an exception for that, lol

I would say no as a rule, but that's only if you make your whole life into being a "Gamer Guy."

Ie. if you define yourself as a "Gamer and Anime watcher", then yes, I wuld say you would be less popular with girls than otherwise.

However, there's nothing wrong with having gaming and anime as 2 big interests of yours, even your 2 favourite interests. Just don't spend more time on them than you do on real life :P

At my age I would be a little disturbed if all my guy did was watch anime all day and had oodles of posters and figurines. In short, otaku are out. If he's got other things he's interested in besides that, and is willing to step outside with me once in a while then that's all right.

As for video games... I guess I'm being inconsistent, because I don't mind having the occasional game marathon with my boyfriend. XD Once again though, if that was all his life consisted of, or if that was all he talked about... yeah. >_> Not happening.
