I started this post because i feel that it is quite an obvious one to use on a bleach forum. when i was watching bleach, my dad walked in and watched over my shoulder as renjii got pwned by byakuya. he said (in cantonese) "why are you watching such violent things? watching these things is going to make you violent!"
I countered, "these guys never give up! these guys show that good always triumphs over evil and that if you presevere, you can accomplish anything!"
So, what do you guys think?
Personally, I dont see either of these things happening to any anime/manga fan. I've been an anime/manga fan since i was around 10, and I'm 16 now, and I can say that i give up much too easily. I'm also a very non-violent person, which tells me that I don't think anime/manga have any effects like these. It may be for others, but to the majority, it's just fun, harmless, entertainment.

I don't think it affects us in a way of getting ourself into doing criminal acts, or heroic acts (alot of crazy ideas might go throught our heads heheh). Its not like if im not able to do soemthing; i'll think of dbz when goku didn't give up.

Haha, manga/anime inceasing violence, hardly!
I mean, people who watch anime and think that they can do the same stuff as they see are just plain stupid :eek13:
And for the not-giving-up attitude the characters have in anime shows, I don't think that it'll affect people too much. (maybe a little tho :rolleye09 )

Eh, a little bit of both in my opnion. Im pretty sure as a spry little 10 year old I worshipped dragon ball z like it was god almighty. But even then, I dont remember clocking a kid just cause Goku did. That, and I'm pretty sure there are no cases of extreme violence caused by manga/anime...

It doesen't make me violent. But it has made me wanted to never give up. And if I get in a fight, I'm not gonna give up either. Though I probobly won't be in a fight.

i really dont think it causes violence ....but da feeble minded may be motivated..and also i wont think it changes ones personality ..if it does its juz dat person is hiding his real self by being somethin or some1 else...

what if it did change you, but so deep that you didnt know? youd only find out in the most extreme situations right? like being mugged or something.

There are too many genre's of anime/manga to really discuss this specific topic.
I don't think that enough of anime/manga promote violence OR the "don't give up" attitude to agree.
So I say "neither".
This all really goes back to a previous debate. If parent's would help kids know what is real and what isn't, then a lot of what has been discussed would probably have not happened. Kinda like that "Kids, don't do this at home." phrase that is used WAY too often (to the point of being cliche).
Anime has become "just another cartoon" on Cartoon Network. Many people don't even see the difference in Anime and Bugs Bunny anymore... it's just that Bugs Bunny has gotten a lot more rep. And both (as a whole) are just as violent... Bugs Bunny might even be more so.
That's like asking if DNAngel promotes violence or the "don't give up attitude"?
A little narrower question might be in order. Just a thought.

alright. then, because this is a bleach forum after all, do you think Bleach could promote either attitude?

Bleach can't promote violence, because that's a choice, as are all things,
but it does lean to the violenced side, and if you're weak-minded,
you could co crazy like that kid that shot his friends parents over a gta game....
On the other side, it DOES give you that 'never give up attitude'
but that's a 1 way road, wether you're right or not, you still won't give up...

its a very valid question.............i believe that it is in no way Bad! I feel that Anime and cartoons for that matter help us Excape Reality, We have enough BS going on in thsi world to worry bout, We all need to do what we feel is Best, doing everything the way it is meant to be done will just result in how messed up this world can be at times!

We all need to do what we feel is Best, doing everything the way it is meant to be done will just result in how messed up this world can be at times! true but wont doing the right thing in itself give some measure of satisfaction; some measure of how you are making a difference in this screwed up world?

If you get provoked to do unrealistic, impossible things like Bleach violence and off animated characters, my friend, you are one sad little person. I do wonder though how it would provoke such a person when like 90% of the time, the things they do on anime is impossible like being to go some one place to another at the speed of 834950345809345 mph. (shunpo)

. . . -_-'
anyways... i think that it does promote violence and the 'don't give up' attitude even though some of the things they do are impossible. However, kids will sometimes copy what they see, or 'not give up' because they're favorite character tells them not to.

anime doesnt promote violence at all.
ssjgogetta
08-05-2006, 01:00 PM
it promotes nowt
eg the people who blame movies/books/games etc 4 killing others r just sick 2 start with and have already had thoughts 2 do things like that.Tbh i think people use movies/books/game as i way of justifying there actions which just leads me 2 belive they r weakminded
PS sorry if i have offended any1 here but its just my view and please dont take it 2 heart
Anyone who is likely to be influenced by anime or manga to commit acts of violence are almost invariably the sort of people who are strongly emotionally unstable anyway, and who would have gone on to commit acts of violence anyway - the anime/manga simply being an excuse for the violence on a subconscious level.
So, imo, no, they don't.

I think neither, really..
Maybe a little kid will try to copy some stuff, but he'll just play around..

Yes it does but not that much so we cant control ourselves. Anime has a good side and a bad side.
Good Side
1.You will never give up
2.You learn to stand up for yourself
3.You learn moves to defend yourself
Bad Side
1.Violence comes into you
2.You keep umm .... Seing bad dreams (-13 that is - And my sister ... )
You see its not that bad.

all things have their advantages and disadvantages, i think its how you use it that matters. for example, watching anime.. like bleach or naruto..(just an Example XD).. if you're a person who knows the difference between doing what is right and wrong, then most probably, the lesson you'll pick up from animes are stuff like determination, hardwork, respect, courage, value of teamwork, friendship..and all that stuff.. however, if you cant and you have that inability topick up those lessons at all, then most likely you'll try and act the violent stuff.. that is why some animes are rated so parents could be guided on what kind they can let their kids watch with minor supervision or if they need to be with the kids to avoid unwanted consequences... :D

I don't think it really "promotes" anything, to be honest. It's more along the lines of how the person who is watching the anime or reading the manga views what they're reading\viewing.
Bleach inspires me.
Then again, I'm not a violent person, and although I wouldn't say I'm completely not weak-minded, when it comes to hurting other people I can clearly see the difference. The people who can't differentiate between right and wrong, whether it be by how they were raised, a medical reason, whatever, are the ones who attempt to imitate what violence they read/see/hear.
I might dream of unleashing Ban Kai on my boss, but I know if I ever tried to pull that on him I'd look pretty silly and probably get fired. :P

If you are influenced easily, then I would say it anime/manga promotes violence, but with honor and integrity. Most people just watch anime for entertainment, so unless the themes for the anime absorb into you without your knowledge, I would say it all depends on your personality.

I just watch anime because I like it, not because it provokes or causes anything in me.

yes that may be true at the start. however the cause is different from the effect. here, the cause would be you like it but the effect would be something else entirely. it could influence you in ways both good and bad, could it not?
ps sorry this is very n00b... but wt is imo?

You cant say realy it depends on what kinda person you are and how much anime you watch or haow much manga you read
Muzikman
08-22-2006, 10:23 AM
it can still influence you slightly though... i mean you might be inspired by acts of courage and determination even though you arent concious of it, but when u cornered in lets say an alley with a frickin mugger on you u might be inspired to stand up to him with some debris like a pipe or sth no?

I watch anime and read manga and it doesn't make me violent or have that don't give up attitude. I think it depends on what kind of person you are. Some people might get influenced by violence in anime but violence is all over tv and in books so if there are people like that it's not just because of watching anime.
Muzikman

so? i usually come out of watching anime for 10 hrs straight (great fun) with a feeling that i could do anything if i tried hard enough.. and the feeling that if a mugger came up to me i'd probably sock him in the face.. n_n i like it.

you can place the "dont give up attitude" in your school work..
about the violence..i don't exactly think it'll change your character..unless you're like my cousin who is only 3..that's different.

Most anime always have some sort of problem and the person never give up. I think it really promotes Never Give Up!

ahahaha yeah!
all anime/manga have a guy that doesnt give up in the face of danger and overwhelming odds, so i think it promotes that attitude.

I said neither, but if it is one, its got to be more the "dont give up thing"
All it promotes for me though is the killing of time and some enjoyment.
