View Full Version : Yoruichi's Zanpaku-to, where is it?

Like the topic says. Does she even have one?
I was watching the episode when Ichigo trains for Bankai, in the secret area beneath the ground. After he has trained the first day, they both sit in the pool and Ichigo points out how this area reminds him of the area beneath the urahara-shop.
Yoruichi explains that she and Urahara used to play alot when they were kids, and that hey made this area in secrecy, just to have a place to have fun, etc..
Anyway, when she says this, she thinks back and you see her and urahara run along, and you can see she has a sword in a hilt, in her belt. Is this her Zanpakuto?

i believe, as do others that the zanpakutou that Soi Fong has used to be Yoruichi's

no way, here's why (ok so i'm kinda making this up but i think it makes sense). ok so soi fong tells yoruichi that the houmonka ability of her zanpaktou has improved, so that now the butterflies last until she turns them off / kills you, and yoruichi is startled by this revelation. considering that yoruichi was already so powerful when soi fong was still a child, no way has soi fong mastered her sword to a level that yoruichi wasn't able to, no matter how long she was gone.
that's my theory, and i'm sticking to it!

I think she should have a zanpaktou, isn't she a shinigami? And maybe (just maybe!) she has a bankai too?

i think i read somewhere Soi Fong has Yourichi's Zanpakutou, can't remember where though :sad:
I think you see Yourichi used some type of dagger which might be her Zanpakutou in the Sealed Sword Frenzy OVA but does that count?

As misternovember said, Soi fong's zanpakutou can't be Yoruichi's since soi fong had already learned how to make the butterfly marks with her sword while Yoruichi was still in the covert ops. This would be impossible if Soi Fong did not have her own personal zanpakutou.

Well, I don't think you can just HAND over you Zanpakutou anyhow. Yoruichi probably does have a zanpakutou, but maybe it's more in the form of something else or maybe as a Covert Op, she got used to the idea of not carrying it for missions for better silence.
Maybe she has a weapon more like Ururu's, Jinta's and Chad's powers (those are technically Zanpakutou like weapons as they possess spiritual attacking powers) I mean she did train Chad and Orihime and their weapons aren't exactly classified as a Zanpakutou. Kinda makes sense.

If you use the search function , you will find a bunch of threads where this mystery has been solved. Yoruichi was never a Shinigami. Unlike Soi Fon who has two positions - in the gotei 13 and in the covert ops - Yoruichi was born into the covert ops and only the covert ops. IT was never mentioned that the taichou of a certain squad (dont remember which soi is atm) is also the leader of the covert ops. Its just a coincidence (or more a result of a really pissed off Soi Fon) that she also is leader of a squad in the gotei 13.

This is true but Yoruichi does have a zanpakutou

She has a sword, but I don't think its a zanpakutou. I think its just like Ganju's sword.

Speaking of which, what counts as a zanpakutou? If it is a sword that can destroy/purify hollows then Yoruichi's is a zanpakutou. In Soi Fong's flashback, she is caught by a hollow who is immediately slashed in the mask by Yoruichi with a short sword. If the ability to get rid of hollows makes it a zanpakutou then Yoruichi has/had a zanpakutou.

I don't think its necessary for a Shinigami to have a zanpaktou- I don't see Nemu or Nanao having a zanpaktou either.

She most likely carried an Asauchi (Shallow Forging). It is a Zampaktou that cannot find it own name so the weilder would never be able to call out it's Shikai let alone Bankai. Besides, Yoruichi is a master of Hakuda (military hand-to-hand combat), hohou (shunpo), and i assume she is skilled in Kidou. I'm sure no one will forget Aizen's speeches in episodes 60-62, in one part he talks about the four skills of a shinigami and how when you choose one your soul's strength hits a wall and so on and so forth. If Yoruichi had also mastered a zampaktou then she would be essentially the perfect shinigami.

She certainly destroyed that hollow but she may not have purified it. It was just one hollow and it was an emergency so I doubt soul society would get upset about it. Plus it was an anime only thing so it was just put in for a bit of action. Yoruichi's duties at the covert ops wouldn't have her fighting hollows anyway.
I think that is what makes a zanpakutou, it can purify hollows and perform soul burials. (Plus all the stuff about zanpakuto spirits and stuff).

Nemu doesnt have one because she isn't really a shinigami... kurotsuchi made her himself, and i doubt even if he can make a zanpaktou that he would bother to make one for her. and nanao reached into her robe when she thought she was going to fight, so her zanpaktou is probably hidden in there.
i doubt that the blade yoruichi has in the picture is an Asauchi, either; its definitely a wakizashi, and since Asauchi are all standardized, it doesnt match up. plus, no WAY is yoruichi on the same level as Maki-Maki!!

if she had one couldn't it have been destroyed like Rukia's, it would be nice if she did have one, and aren't all the people that live in soul society shinigami??? and know the ones living outside the wall are not but the ones inside are, right?right?

Yoruichi was in sum Military thing i forgot and i think it was that preferred to fight with Kidou then with katana juutsu's (sword techniques)

Well, considering her use of Shunko (i think thats the name), which is a fairly powerfull technique, i'd assume she doesnt have one. She obviously expected battle at some point in her life again, and if she had to fight sans-Zanpakuto, she'd of course devote her time to gaining the strength to fight without one. The best bet is that it was broken, or seeing as how Zanpakuto are pretty much living, mabey it *left* her...

Wasn't Yoruichi second divison captain?? that means she was a shinigami, right. It also says that they need to know shika and bankai (Wich you need to have a zanpakuto to do). Now I know Ken-chan doesnt't know bankai, but didnt they say that he was the only one??
Anyway, she probably got tired of it and put it away or something..

^^that would not be possible i think because a zanpakutoh is a part of its owner and nobody other than that person could wield it. as for whether she had a zanpakuto or not.. yes.. i think she had one.. and where is it?!? only Kubo knows.. XD

I think the best explanation is that her zanpaktou is an asauchi, as she has mastered two of the four styles of shinigami combat (hakuda and hohou), leaving her average at Kidou, and probably god-awful at zanjutsu
I was just throwing around ideas. She has to have a zanpaktou because the only person to become a captain without knowing their zanpaktou name is Zaraki Kenpachi. And in order to know your zanpaktous name you have to have one.

All she ever was is leader of the covert ops that are kind of (military)police. Its just Soi Fon who is both , leader of the CO and G13!
Only shinigami carry zanpaktou , and not everyone inside the siretei (sp? lets say inner court) is a shinigami. The guys who lead the prisoners around also dont have a zanpukto. Some just carry ordanary weapons.

Wow that guide is so wrong.
1) Soi fong was inducted into the Covert Ops under Yoruichi NOT the 2nd Division
2) There is more evidence that Soi Fong's zanpakutou is her own than evidence that it is Yoruichi's
Ex.
a) Soi Fong stating that HER butterfly marks now stay as long as she wills them. She couldn't have made the marks when Yoruichi was there unless Soi Fong had her own zanpakutou.
b) In the anime, Soi Fon and Yoruichi are seen fighting each with their own swords against hollows
The way I see it. Yoruichi abandons her posts and Soi Fong inherits the Covert Ops and through her own will to beat Yoruichi and in order to hone her power she becomes a shinigami as well eventually rising to captain. This would explain why she thinks she should be stronger than Yoruichi. As for Yoruichi's zanpakutou, I have no idea but she may still have it.
