Yeah colours aren't so great. Don't shy away from just brushing with a round brush on a new layer and chaging layer modes/opacity... It honestly helps. Also, if you didn't know, what I use is, a curves layer but on the very top change RGB to blues, play around to see if anything is nice, another curves layer and choose reds, repeat and finally another by choosing greens. You bring in some vibrant stuff that way and yeah I think it would help.

Out of curiosity, do you ever take advantage of the layer mask on adjustment layers. I mean using those adjustments, you can get a really sick colour/effect if you go a bit overboard, but since it affects the whole tag and in another area it's way overcontrasted, you might think it's ugly and change the settings but stick with it and erase using the layer mask where it's bad. bring in a few different colours like that and yuo got a vibrant coloured tag.

PS: Seems like there is a strong blackish ink outline filter on the left of the tag. Actually all around... Not wel blended.

Because 1) I've seen way better from you using other styles
2) If you consantly stick to oen style, your knowledge of "being good" is only limited by what you know at the present time
3) By doing other tuts and style you learn key techniques that you haven't learnt and believe me there are a lot of techniques that are simply but that you haven't learnt yet
4) Then with that knowledge by going to back to your very simplistic style, you'll be surprised to know just how much better that style has become, because your no longer limited in knowledge and ability.

That's the main reason, but if telling you thta doesn't change your mind, and my saying so annoys you then I won't try and convince you again. It's your GFX life and if I become an obstacle I wouldn't be that proud of myself.

I agree with RH, the same is never good, you can't improve much if you can only do one thing, tuts aren't really necessary either, I've only done a few tuts, and I do fine, I just think of randomized styles to do, make three or four tags with that style, and move on to something else, usually incorporating something from almost every old style I've had into a new one.
Not saying you have to do a new thing, but being good at only one style isn't good, you see how people complained of Yuurei's one style, you want to end up like that?

You can use a regular tut but just use different filter/effects (that's if the filter/effect isn't on PS7). For instance, PS7 doesn't have Photo Filter (at least i think so) so instead of using that i use Solid color and just use multiply.....>.>

PS7 lacks only 1 and only 1 thing. Scatter smudge. That is all. Any tut can be used for PS7 unless they have scatter smudge (and that isn't a big deal). You can get around doing any effects, by using PS7 you might just have to do 1 extra 5 second step to apply it though. Like anemone said, no photofiller just solid colour new layer on multiply gives you the same effect, etc.
Also, yuo can become a yuueri if you want, but looks are not as they appear. Yuurei does indeed specilize in soft smudge, but you can do every single other style (which is why he is in advanced and gfx crew) but he specializes in soft smudge. You are no where near specializing in your style at the moment because you do not know all the things you can do to add to your style and enhance it. There is no other way to do that but by experimenting with other styles. Those tuts you got may have been flukes, but keep doing some until you figure out how to continue and acheive those flukes until you know how to do them whenever you want. That's the point really of tutting, learning from them.

Curvise's level of tagging went up a whole new level after starting RL tags, just wait until he goes back to making anime ones, they won't even compare to his older ones, because he picked up key techniques.

Anemone, that tag is really really hot. Those are the type of tags you need to show when getting classed, your last classification had sub-par tags from th level I know you can do. I'd recommend trying to overcontrast certain effects to bring them out. That style is monotone, but by overcontrasting some effects, you'll have a really big "wow" factor on that monotone style ^^

That's pretty nice, I like, but I can't really see the face, it's a bit overcontrasted in places, the typo is quite nice, blending is ok, colors are pretty good too.

Kicki, it seems those tags are pretty bad in terms of blending... which should be one of the first things you learn. Try and focus on blending for every tag so that it becomes natural to you and then try something harder.

Super, don't use brightness/contrast layer.

First did you use any ilnear/colour dodge? If you did, go to that layer and lower the opacity or change to lighten/screen. That's the best way to take it out. Or if using an adjustment layer, use curves, I think it's better. Or maybe even levels. If you notice that by getting rid of it your tag becomes greyish, don't panic. Keep that same setting, keep it grey. Then on the layer mask of that adjustment layer (a small rectangle on the layer) take a black round soft brush and brush on your canvas where you don't want it to be grey (basically everywhere except where you had previously overcontrasted. By brushing black on a layer mask, it acts as an eraser. So technically, you have lowered your contrast in one specific area.

@RH: Any tips???? I tend to erase some of the edges using a soft eraser set to about 40-50% opacity - why I didn't with the samurai one I have no idea, the first one I did but obviously forgot on other layers, and the RL is a complete piece - hard to erase edges when there are none!!

Cursive, don't you back down on your progress now. Stay consistant. Those new tags of yours are on a whole new level compared to before. Your progress is very noticeable.

Kicki, according to the normal steps. When your sorta a beginner at blending, you would the feather meathod to blend. Very useful for grunge type tags. After that is the more manual way the soft erase way, this requires a lot more precision as it requires the artist to think in advanced where should the stock be blended for "X" end result. Finally, tere is no blendage, there is only filters and effects and C4D's etc becoming a part of your tag as a whole in the proper areas. To do this you have to be very comfortable with you GFX skills, you should be at the stage when your very much able to tell what your good at and what your bad at. Covering up the stock in certain areas with lighting, brushing, smudging, filtering C4ding is how I do. I can't really say whats the next step since that's where I'm at :D

Your newest has really good colouring. Text is still really weak, try and spend a good 5 minutes thinking how to do text. I said "thinking" not chosing the font or playing with layer modes, but really think. The effect on her arm=bad. Don't cover up the stock with filters unless you are either blending (which yuo are not) or unless you are getting a specific effect (again you are not) so that fuzziness is totally unwanted in this tag. It would have been awsome if the tag was longer and you encorporated more smudge/filters and make more visual effect. But I repeat the colours in this tag are very very nice.

Yes, the overcontrast is pretty bad... oh well... I tried to fix. First time using C4D in a while, the white are C4D and the blue are vector shapes, anything else is the stock's original bg.

Kichi, when blending you need to think that the side that is being blended (usually one of the two side) will be the side that will take into account effects and BG that is considered closer to us the viewer. This will also mean that colours on this side will be generally whiter. The side that is not blended will be darker with further depthual BG and effects. Also for your newest, try and use your stock so that it takes up a max of 1/3 of the tag. Making it more like yours restricts a LOT of possibilities. But either way, for text try using a typo put on his hat. Gotta blend using soft light and stuff for sure, don't just plaster it on. Also this is an example of a plastered on stock. The principle of wanting to blend means that the stock does not seem plastered on, which is the feeling here.

Seto, I would be one of those people that doesn't think the style is very pro :P But anyways, the typo on that tag is very fitting. Also, I was using PS the other day and I couldn't find colour filter (because I still don't understand its effects). Mind telling me where it is? =x Unless it's a 4rd party plugin?

clean up some filters, they're too obvious, especially on the edge of the stock... His head should granulize like that that. Add sharp effects on the left side. Take out your lighting layer and move the lighting to above his head a bit to the right, but don't put the light source in the corner.

Did you add lighting to V2? If you did, it doesn't show enough.

By effects I mean, really experiment, apply iamges, filters, smudage, get really funky weird stuff, play with contrast on those specific effects (usually making them highly contrasted looks nice. And then if they are well done sharpen them. Because basically left side is really flat right now.

Cursive, your first has great pentooling, but too bad it just doesn't go well with the rest of your tag.
Your second reminds me a lot of Hayate's style, but the left side is bad, too randomized with defined effects... if it's really random don't make it defines, make it really abstract.

Seto, When doing my escape tag, I learn that it doesn't matter how chatic yuor tag is. Like it is now. Just get some layers and blur that parts that stand out and distract too much and focus more the parts you want to be focused. At the moment it's very hard to make out the stock. *Please don't yell at me like Tofu* LOL!

Kicki, it's when the BG slowly transitions into black. WHich is what you have on the bottom right.

See how the outer crners are black. It helps create the realism of the effects that you see behind spiderman. If the effect was evereywhere without negative effect, the effect would be less attractive.

You only use negative space in certain types of tags. So with experiance you will know when to use it and when not to.

Alright guys, time for me to make an outro. I basically became an honourary member here and deicated a lot of my time in Racane because the old teams were getting so inactive. I think One Vision can make it work now. I'm dedicating all that time to them now, so I'll be resigning as an honourary member here. The actual render is a dark face Trev, I wanted it sort of back lit as if the lightning flash illuminated his presence but keep his identity secret......as for typo, I did have "Fear the Shadows" in the corner but I'm having trouble blending it nicely - any ideas??? or alternatives??

As for the gift Trev - put a lighting source in the top left, take out the stars and stripes under her arm or fade them down a bit...and move the typo to the right, central alignment

Right, seeing as the vast majority of this team seems to have regretably just given up, it is with heavy heart and a tear in my gfx eye that I tend my resignation from Arcane Designs.

With so little interest being shown in the team, I feel I need to leave to grow. The experience and skills I have learnt during my time here, and the friends I have made, have made me the Gfx-er I am, and I thank you all - especially Tatsu, Kootje (sadly no longer active) and Seto - I would never have joined if it wasn't for Tatsu, would never have grown without Kootje, and would have left long ago if not for Seto.

If I have missed anyone I am truly sorry. I shall miss you all, and wish Arcane Designs every success for the future.

Okay my own activity level been low (I'm a lurker by nature, but i do frequently visit and read posts in here, and post myself when i make a sig i'm happy with.
Especially since most end up on the cutting room floor, so to speak),

However its always been quite active in here but it seems finally that Arcane is dying, the number of those jumping ships seems to point this out too. So as not to tie anyone down to a inactive team and allow those of you to join other teams if you wish, i have come to this decision.

Finally:

As mentioned above if the few remaining members wish to continue at this low level of activity rather then me close the team then i'm willing to hand control over to Seto if he wants it.....

I think the best way to start fresh is to organize or reformat our team... we should get rid of the inactive members or giving them a warning note that if they do not respond in the next few days they will automatically be kicked out of arcane designs.

Screening for new members should be judged by owner and co-owner and the qualifications is up to the both of you. We should start recruiting fresh designers from cb once we get rid of those inactive. Second, we should be obliged to be more active around here ;)

I also have this idea where we have a weekly showdown, team battles or contests which will involve the participation of other teams, for fun. Anyway, hope to hear from you all...

not bad, but lose the leaf brushed things, that doesn't look too good
the tag's a bit too light too, I'd say add a B&W gradient map which u put on soft light or maybe multiply on low opacity
also, ur bg dissappears halfway ur tag, try to cover the entire canvas so that ur stock isn't just standing in a white area
and u might wanna change ur bg's color, cuz the yellow doesn't quite fit with ur blue stock

yes, that's a lot better, the colors match now :) though I'd suggest to stay away from the leave/star/funny-shaped brushes, they can be nice for smudging, but for plain brushing they just stick out too much on ur tag

much better :p what u could do now is take an applied image layer and use the filter blur > blur more on it, then u erase where u want ur focus to be, so prolly ur stock and the area around it
and maybe try a curves adjustment layer to enhance ur lighting

At the bottom of ur layers window u should see this black & white circle, click that and select curves
u'll get a new window where u see .. a curve :p it's pretty easy, just select a point on the curve and drag it around a bit, u can add more points too
moving a point on the curve up will lighten certain areas of ur tag and moving it down will do the opposite
u just gotta move it around a bit, don't make too many points, usually one or two should do
depending on the current lightness of ur sig u can lighten it or darken it, unless u think u've got the perfect look already :3

one thing I would change is the position of ur stock, I'd say u move it a bit to the left on the bright spot, that'll bring the focus some more on ur stock and kill the bright spot, cuz it's a bit too bright imo :P

yeh, not bad, but I'd put some more red in the bg, try a color balance layer and move the sliders a bit to red and magenta
