though C4Ds shouldn't be the ONLY thing making up your bg. U should have a basic bg made up of smudging or some filtered image or whatever, then u can use C4Ds to make some fx

I smudge my stock multiple times with different brushes, this way u'll have matching colors cuz they come from the stock itself
on other ones I just googled a random image and put a spatter filter on it and used that as my bg
this is just the basic bg, and with my sigs there usually isn't much more visible of it in the end cuz I've covered it with filtered C4Ds and applied images and such

when smudging don't forget to modify ur brush settings, u can open the window by hitting F5 in PS
U can try moving the size jitter, angle jitter & roundness jitter sliders in shape dynamics all to 100% and the scattering around 100% too
don't forget to set the smudge strength to 100% too
this is just an example of course, u can mess around with the brush settings, but for me this usually works pretty fine :)

Don't install linux. I know that is free but it sucks. Some computers in my college has linux system, and they have a lot of errors. Anyway it's up to you. If you need the codes for PSCS2 just tell me (super would be able to help you too)

I'm sure you've noticed about this:

We don't really have enough going on between the Graphics teams in CB, so I am going to host a simple contest, with a glittering reward.

I want each team to produce a collaborative large piece between themselves. At least 2 team members should contribute to the piece, but preferably more.

For example, one person could make a C4D, the next could manipulate it in PS and add effects, perhaps another person could add some text, and a final person add adjustment layers.

I advise making use of MSN, IRC or another instant messaging program to discuss your LP and send the PSD to each other with.

When you have finished your collab to the best of your ability, PM your finished LPs to me.

Deadline: Saturday 25th November 2006 @ 11.59 PM GMT.

Judging: The judges will be appointed from non-participant/non-biased GFX crew and GFX section members.

Prizes:

1000 VbBux points to each member of the winning team
400 VbBux points to each member of every team that participatedAll prizes will come from my personal funds, so you need not worry about the currency being devalued.

I don't know how to make C4D, I do only know how to use them. It will be hard to share the duties because everyone here is kinda good ^^

The render pic is okay, but try to avoid the bevels and also the bottom and left shadow. You have used clouds or difference clouds and that makes difficult to see the render. Try to change layers order and also move the render layer to the top, in order to watch the character with more colours.

Perhaps Super will tell you better. It's only my opinion. I like it though, I liked how you combined red and dark for the background. Thumbs up!!

thnx i beveled it cause of the pic i was useing to try and not make it look squishy and the aggle it was on. but im working on more and i got a few new bg to mess with and im dling c4d to play with later on. i still have them all seprate too so i can mess with it again lol

yeah, don't use bevel & emboss on ur whole tag, that looks pretty bad
besideds that I must say it's pretty good, just think u've chosen a difficult stock to work with, it ain't got any lively colors on it and such
u need to bring out the color more in this one, try a color balance layer or a gradient map with two colors of ur choice .. or u can take a look at DS' latest tutorial which is about coloring :3

Sorry for being offline a while (I was in Germany).
While I was in the train, I had this idea:

There could be a new design team, calling:

Design Industry

You'll find there a gmail account with al kinds of recourses:
Brushes, actions, plugins, psd files, c4ds, how to get design programs (photoshop CS 2, Dreamweaver, Cinema 4D and so go on), sprites etc.

There will be:
3 amateurs users
4 experienced users
4 Advanced, above users

(3 from them will be leaders.)

Not more. The reason for that is that I don't want it to be an amateur team/pro team/experienced team only :/.

+ Of course there will be Design Industry contests. The prize = rep and I'll pimp one of your sig into a better sig (so that you could learn from it)




I only can do this team with the help from you guys...
But If you don't want this team, it's fine with me ^^.

U could try a ..

filter > distort > wave
filter > distort > ocean ripple
filter > brush strokes > spatter

put that on lighten & erase on the stock and anything else that doesn't look good

Or u can add a C4D, copy it a few times and apply different filters

@shadow: nice works! try adding more depth to your sigs. Also try experimenting on text. So far I like the first one, I like the effects and the color is good although the text is kindof bugging. Keep it up!

@Shadow: They're pretty good, the effects are nice :) next thing u should try and get a hang of is lighting
Depending and the lighting that's already there on ur stock u gotta decided where ur light source should be and what areas of the tag are lit by it
Once u got that down u can create light and dark areas by brushing with a soft brush (I use 45px soft brush ost of the time) and lowering the opacity depending on how light/dark u want it, remember to but white & black on different layers cuz they'll have different opacities most of the time

Don't know if u've already tried a curves layer, I mentioned it once I think, anywayz, curves help too :)

another thing u can do is enhancing the lighting on the stock
one way to do this is by making a new layer, set it to linear dodge, take a small white soft brush with opacity around 15% and brush on ur stock where it's lit by the light source
if it's still too bright u can still lower the layer's opacity

that's about all I can think of right now, I think u should give it a try, it'll make ur tags better :)

OK guys, it's with heavy heart that I make this the final post of Arcane Designs.

At the request of the founder, Tatsumaru Ishida, and the current owner The Supervisor, I have been asked to hereby officially close down Arcane Designs. It has laid inactive and forgotten at the foot of the GFX Teams for too long, and the time has come to lay her to rest properly.

I personally learnt a lot of things during my time here, enough to be able to create my own team from the ashes of this one. And so shall the ideal of AD's founder Tastumaru live on through Phoenix Designs, and Arcane Designs be finally given the rest and end it deserves.

Moderators - please close this thread as soon as possible. And may Arcane Desins live on forever as part of GFX history.
