Steps 3 & 4 onwards

It's like this, make a new layer and image-aply image then smudge it a bit(do as you like) then set it to lighten then duplicate the layer with just the stock on it and put it as your top layer use oceanripple

Then duplicate your original stock again twice! and use filter-blur-motion blur on the first and on the second use another ocean riple set both layer to lighten then erase bad parts

Yeah hidden once you have the 2copies simply hide the top one

I don't see what's so wrong about being ranked amateur. Just means you gotta work harder. It's better than Beginner. I've yet to be ranked. I need to rack up 5 exceptional ones first. So far I gots my Link pentool, Temari, abstract pentool, and my skater photomanip. I need one more good one. I'm not so proud of my other ones.

hey guys don't worry bout me, it not the rank par se, it the fact that after making sigs for nigh on 9 months+ or so and thats the rank i get.

I then thought meh okay no problem, but then thinking that in such a short time i've seen you guys come in huge leaps and bounds i realised that for me to get the same rank as you mean i'm not improving at all.

That coupled with the fact i'm screwing up on my most recent sigs. It totally blew my confidence out the water. Especially since i'm the team leader, i'm suppose to set a example and it's not gunna be good for the team if i end up the worst one on the team.....

Try something new, different, or completely random, until find something you like.
Post them, we might be able to help.

I'm still waiting, and very very patiently that is. If you guys don't already know Tatsu is the sole reason I ever joined Dreamscape Designs and from there I was improving in leaps and bounds. It was all because Tatsu had one of the most beautiful tags I had ever seen at the time. If it weren't for those peices of inspiration, I'd probably be a complete n00b with ps still.

However, a long absence can have it's toll. Tatsu isn't the gfx artist he used to be. Not by a long shot. His talent is buried by his leave from the gfx world. I'm hoping that with time, this team will prove to unleash Tatsu's performance. That's why I keep visiting this thread. I've read all 106 pages of work done here. I'm waiting for that moment for Tatsu to get back to his pinacle and knowing what he's capable of it'll be well worth the wait.

Tatsu, I recommend showing these fellow gfx artists those tags I was talking about. If you remember it's your awsome Drizzt Do'Urden tags! :D When I saw those tags, I got inspiration! I immediate went and made myself a tag for the SOTW. Want to see what it is?

I wouldn't really suggest finding tuts, I've only done three, ever, a HitsT one, an ION ones, and Koot's. I'd really just suggest doing a HitsT one, and ION's one and that's good enough, you should learn some depth and lighting from them, then experiment on your own a lot after that.

HitsT's are incredibly easy and helpful. ION's was pretty nice too.
Really, if not for HitsT's I would know nothing about depth or lighting.

IMO, you should be using tutorials until you reach experianced level. The closer you get to experianced the smaller the ammount of tutorials you need to do. As the name implies, when you are the "experianced" stage, you have most of the practical knowledge of the capabilities of ps. Until then, tut away until you figure out what you are capable to do with this software.

A quick example, if I were to name a very quick thing to do to improve your current DR, would be to create an applied image, blurring it, erasing text and stock face and setting it to lighten. Just that would add to your tag. Also, I'd use a levels layer to fic up the brightness.

If you ask me, if you properly understand just the effects of adjustment layers, your already in experianced level IMO. Tuts are good at your stage, because you need to try a variety of things.

I dunno, taking your current as an example, I can see a couple of quick fixes I could do taking a maximum of five minutes using adjustment layers to enhance your tag.

Example, your tag is slightly undercontrasted, so I'd use a curves layer right there. The stock is oh-so-very little blurred. To create better depth it need s little bit of sharpenin' and finally the color is almost dull. I'd use a photofilter to add more to it. Then there's lighting, negative space needed, etc. There's a lot to be used to enhance your tag. AFter all that another more experianced gfx artist better tha I could add even more to it.

The point is, your "almost" pefect in adjustment layers. Like I said so many times, it's a "little" or "slightly", etc... so IMO, your not all that far from experianced.

I think i know my way around PS and adjustment quite well but there alot of room for exeperience, which Tats and al you other guys provide Thanks. Make the bg then make a bigger document (transparant)big enough for the popout paste the bg then the stock ad some more effects make sure you save as png interlaced

kinda just make the bg for example 300x130 then make a new document you want it to popout in the air so 300x160 or something like that then past your bg in then take your stock resize but let some parts popout of the bg save and on forum you'll have a pop-out sig

I must say the pop-out is genius but the texts a bit to big, now for your latest, really nice, you've got great detail try enhancing that more with some pentooling and i think you should ad some on stock effects other than that its good

Version 1 is better then version 2.
You could lower the opacity from the scanlines (5/8 %)
The rest is ok, but I don't like the blue line (left).

From your old signatures I like the second one.
But... I like your current style more (your older style hasn't got depth, the text doesn't really fit (lower the opacity) ).

Yeah pentool isn't tuts or anything obviously you can learn a straight line from a tut but what refried pulls of is just pure skill and experience

It's pretty good, but the left side has a bit too much negative space, and I'd try some better lighting, throw another curves or levels layer on with perhaps a tad bit more soft brushing, I can't really tell where the light is coming from.

EDIT: Wow, I just noticed the typo in that tag, it's not too bad, if you can find it...

yo just noticed: some parts of the stock (shoulder and clothes) are over-sharpened. Doesn't fit with the lack of sharpness of the face.

There are too many scanlines, and lower the opacity from them.
The background is kinda empty... Try to put some effects in it and put some more light in it ;).

Looking good trev....but:

1) Stock seems pale....but good lighting. Try appying the stock again and just reduce it's opacity to about 50%.....just to give him some colour.

2) Text: Font is good but could use better blending, seems to fade into the negative spaces too much.

But overall I like it - well done

Kootje, I don't know how to tell you this, but IMO v1 was better. Take out the light source at the neck (in v2 it looks like it's smudged). Play with sharpen and blurring at the apropriate areas. Erase the parts that look bad. I'd say use a curves layer and such to play with the stock itself (you have erase the bg for these effects) because the stock within the tag looks dull and the color is too faded.

Hinata, yes! Your last two new ones, the naruto ones. Keep working that style. Your depth is finally starting to show, lighting still needs improvement as well as text. I don't know if you made your Hinata one, but so far it's the best out of the two.

It's not very easy to make it :P.
You must know how you create everything (water, clouds etc.) and then put it together + lighting+ colours etc.

I made it with terragen and photoshop ^^.

The overall effect is nice, and i like the look you was going for but stock is too small, you can't see all the lovely detail on the mechs armour anymore. And its too dark, the smudge effect is nice but doesnt sit well with me for some reason.

The text does the job, i can see anything too wrong with it, maybe a touch more blending but not much.

The lens flare on the eye is nice but not to my taste... perhaps you should try this again as a LP that way you can get the full effect in rather then compromise all the stock's detail for it.

the momo gift is nice but looks a bit pixelated same for the anemone tag, maybe you should draw small lines in the direction of the flow and then do a clipping mask to ad some colours @ Kichi i don't like the text fix that
