well this is like the 10000 time ive tried to get people to read it.. i hope someone reads it this time.. ill set it out in parts so its not as long in one go.

Brother of The Nightflower

Part One: Deaths Call

Ren looked into the cold, dead eyes of his friend, there was no mistaking it, his friend was the traitor, and he had betrayed the entire clan. The pain was unbearable, the shame felt for his dead friend, but in Ren's eyes the fire of the question still burned, why did he do it? There seemed no logical reason why his best friend in the whole world would betray the clan that he grew up in and loved. But still the evidence was overwhelming; it was to this final confrontation that the trail of evidence had lead him. It saddened him to think that it was him who was put in charge of this mission, he, who had to kill his best friend, in order to protect the clan from ruin and sure defeat. Ren pulled the blade from his friend’s lifeless corpse, wiping the blade on his leg, he got off the ground. He studied his friends face, remembering the memories of freedom, that at this very moment seemed so long ago, yet it was only last spring that he had laughed so carefree with his friend in the meadows of the wildflowers. The rain continued to fall down on the roof of the silent Onagi household. The rain dripped down Ren's sweat covered face, into his eyes, but this warrior didn’t blink away the drops but let it hide the tears of anguish that came with those carefree memories.

As I have said before...you have a talent with words! I like...just me that I find the opening a little...slow. Little more info before I can say anything else. But otherwise I like where this might be going. The suspense is killing me already!

Part Two: Recollection

Ren recalled the events that had taken place on the rooftop running the images through his head; he had spotted the traitor coming from the map room in Tesaki's house. The traitor saw Ren watching him from the rooftop and had tried to flee, towards the exit of the town, but half way there Ren had caught up to him on the Onagi roof top,
'Stop Tessan! There is no point running. The clan now knows your identity, you can’t hide!' Ren yelled over the down pour now falling from the sky.
Tessan turned and faced him, his eyes locking onto Ren's in a fierce glare.
'I don't care that the clan knows my identity! It doesn’t matter anymore, ive succeeded what I needed to do in order to accomplish my mission' Tessan yelled. Ren put his hand on the hilt of his katana.
‘Give up Tessan! You can’t fight the clan. Why are you doing this? You know the punishment for traitors!' Ren Yelled
Tessan also put his hand on the hilt of his katana.
‘You want to know why im doing this? Im doing this for a better cause! The clan brainwashes you with what they think is right, but I have discovered that the clan is misleading us! You think you are fighting for a Just cause! Ha!' he spat on the ground 'Don’t make me laugh!' he yelled
'But Tessan this is your cause too!' Ren yelled over the ever present rain.
'Not anymore, not now I know the truth!' he yelled
'What is the truth Tessan?' Ren yelled
'If you want the truth, go to the Nightflower, now enough talk' he yelled, and drew his sword.
'Fine you leave me no choice!' Ren yelled and drew his sword.

They charged eachother across the long rooftop, the puddles of rain splashing up as they ran. The blades sang there shrill sound that echoed through the silent village as they met eachother with fierce resolve. Ren knew his friend would be a worthy opponent, for they had sparred together for most of there adult lives, Ren normally getting the better of his more timid friend. But as they continued to fight on, its became clear to Ren that his friend had held back his real skill. Tessan's skill far surpassed his own. His friend was like a graceful swan, easily deflecting his strength relied blows and flowing between his moves with regal grace only beheld to the most masterful of swordsman. As the fight continued it became apparent to Ren that if he didnt do something soon he would die on this rooftop. He had to do something unexpected, for his arms were growing tired and had nearly slipped on his last block. He went in for an attack on the right side of Tessan knowing his friend would be able to deflect the blow with ease, and after being deflected Ren showed an opening for his friend to bait him to attack him, his friend took the bait and lashed out with his sword, as Ren expected this he twisted his body around and took the blow onto his right shoulder. The sword impaled his shoulder, and Ren saw the look of surpise flash across his friends face, but it was too late, he had the opening he needed and striked with a downward blow, severing his friends tendons in his sword arm.Tessan dropped down to his knee's in agony. A look of shame crossed his face, but was quickly replaced by a look of sadness.
'Looks like you win my friend,I must admit im surprised, but the clan is already doomed' He weezed, through his panting.
He looked down at his kneeling friend.
'Although you dont deserve an honourable death for what you have done to the clan you were always my friend so i shall give you one'
Ren stood behind his friend and handed him his sword. In the proper ceremony he reversed the blade on himself and stabbed the blade into his stomach and pulled up. His body slumped to the ground. Ren still remember the smile that touched his lips before he did it.

Part Three: Forest Fury: I

The blood flowed quite freely from the wound in Ren shoulder, he took his sleeve and tore off a strip of cloth to wrap his wounded shoulder in. He thought that it was a pretty deep wound and left to itself it would either get infected in the winter environment or he would die from blood loss. He decided the best action was to wake up the medicine lady. He climbed down off the roof, his long black hair blowing in the wind, the moonlight conveying his rough features, the scar on his left cheek, green eyes shining in the new moon, meanwhile studying his surroundings, of the small town. The town was encircled by a thick wall of sharpend pines creating the perimeter defence, enough to defend a small town. Outside of the wall was a large forest of pines spanning fifty kilometres in every direction. A perfect cover for an attack. The town wasnt situated in exactly the best defensive postion, Ren thought. It would be quite easy for an enemy to sneak up in any direction. Ren and Tessan were the assigned warriors in this peaceful town controlled by the Tetazaki clan, one may ask why samuarai are assigned to such a peaceful town. Well a peaceful town is the best place to keep the war plans for the summer. Who would suspect that the Tetazaki clan would hide there plans in a small, peasant town off to the far south. Ofcourse the clan never counted into the equation Tessans betrayel, No-one would have suspected that, for the fact that Tessan wasnt careful enough to hide his presence, he left too much evidence. The clan began an immediate investigation and chose Ren as the chief officer. It all came down to this night, this last move in which we would uncover the traitor. Now it seems that, the plans for the summer have been revealed to one of our rivals, its had to say which though, but now it was up to Ren to travel to the capital to warn the clan of the betrayel and the plans.

The sun that rose the next morning spoke of ill omen to anyone setting out this day. The previous nights wound still throbbed with pain on Ren's shoulder, but the medicine lady had done a great job of cutting off the bleeding. Ren knew that this would be a long journey so he set out for the market to buy supplies and anything else he may need along the way. The market was as usual a bustling place with friendly faces of both shop keepers and peasants alike. He returned to his lodgings to fetch his belongings and his pack, before he went he thanked the medicine lady one last time and said goodbye to some of the friends he had made during his stay in the town. He set out when the the sun had reached its zenith in the sky.

He travelled for three days in the cold forboding winter condtions, but the snow made it hard to cover much distance in the short amount of time that he had of light. On the third day he came upon a forest, but as soon as he entered this forest he could tell there was something different, something strange about this forest that set it apart from the others that he had crossed on his journey. The sounds of the forest were the same, but he got that ever present feeling that he was being watched, he scanned the tree's looking for any watchers but there seemed to be none. He shook off this feeling counting it as only his imagination. He kept walking, but the feeling returned and stronger, he entered a clearing. Three dark shapes appeared as if out of thin air, clutching the trees surrounding him. They looked like they were dressed in the garb of an assasin of sort, dressed all in black but for a purple flower on there back. Ren had keen eye for the different clan's symbols but he had never seen this symbol before. They dropped to the ground with the grace of cats, each drawing his sword. Ren thought that this didnt look like a welcoming party, so he drew his sword aswell. Ren flew at the first opponent and was met with a block to form a cross with there swords, each one trying to over power the other but Ren knew if he kept this up he would stabbed in the back by one of the other assasins. He dropped to the ground on one leg and sweeped a low kick, dropping the assasins legs from under him and stabbed the assasin as he dropped to the ground. The other two rushed at him together and Ren only had a small time to recover from his previous move before having to block and deflect both the assasins attacks. Ren knew that if this kept up he wouldnt be able to sustain for long. Ren ran towards the tree's knowing that they would have less of an advantage if he stayed in the trees rather than the open ground. The two assasins ran after him. When he reached the tree's he faked to go left and quickly turned on the first assasin, he didnt have enough time to react and took Rens blade into his stomach. He quickly withdrew his sword and met the second assasins blade, the second assasin made a quick assault on the left side of Ren, but Ren deflected the blow and kicked the assasin in the head, momentarily stunning his opponent enough to put his sword through him. Ren dropped to the ground panting, the wound on his left shoulder was throbbing more from all the extra excercise that he'd had to do. Ren knew that these assasins hadnt been any ordinary ones, these assasins were trained to kill silently yet they had good skill with a sword, which is very unatural in these times. Any of the clans assasins would have had much less skill than these. He recalled the purple flower on the backs of the assasins garbs, the flower could only have been one thing, this made Ren shiver, words from the grave, he remembered Tessans words 'If you want the truth, go to the Nightflower'. It now dawned on Ren that this nightflower, a group it seemed, was now after him.

Part Three: Forest Fury: II

It took Ren a while to realise that there was someone behind him, watching him. He quickly got off the ground. Grabbing his sword as he rose.
'Who are you?' Ren said.
'My name is Ellestine, you are quite good with that sword of yours, would you like to sparr with me?' Ellestine said in a energetic tone.
Ren studied what the other man was wearing, seemed like normal warrior robes, except for a black scabbard with a purple nightflower on it. He had short, spikey, brown hair, but the most forboding thing about this man was his light blue eyes, Ren had never seen the like in his life.
'Your from the Nightflower arn't you?' Ren said
'Ah i see you noticed' he sighed 'Well you see my mission is to capture you, if the assassins failed, but i thought i would be more fun if i sparred with you first' He said
'You are quite confident that you will capture me..' Ren said.
'I have no doubts' He said

In a split second both of them had there swords out. For a second Ren studied the sword his opponent held, the blade itself seem to be finely crafted, with precision of the best weapon makers, the blade ended in an intractly crafted hilt with double dragons coming up the side in Red, Rens sword was standard military equipment, nothing compared to Ellestine's almost art like sword. Ren charged at his opponent with a cut to where his neck should have been. 'Too late!' Ellestine had already dodged and stepped off a nearby tree to comedown on Ren from above. Ren hardly had anytime to block before Ellestine pulled off Rens blade and struck out with a smack to the side of Rens head with the hilt of his sword. 'Hes too quick!' Thought Ren.
Ren fell to the ground and rolled just in time to miss a downward stab, aimed for his sword arm. Ren sprang up into a defensive postion, Ellestine charged at Ren and did something totally unexpected, digging his sword into the ground, he ran at Ren unarmed. Ren swung at Ellestines head as he charged at Ren, but Ellestine was way to fast and dodged under Rens blow to deliver an amazingly powerful uppercut to Rens jaw, sending Ren sprawling onto the ground, his sword sliding out of reach. Ren quickly got up from the ground, dazed, he grabbed for his sword, Ellestine was already there one foot on Rens sword, with the other foot Ellestine delivered a powerful kick to the side of Rens face. Again Ren was pushed back onto the ground by the power of the blow, Ren with his last energy sprang up and went for a low sweep to Ellestines legs, it succeeded and Ren grabbed for his sword and stepped back into a defensive postion. Ellestine stood up.
'If you want to do this the hard way then.."
Ellestine ran around Ren and grabbed his sword. Ren braced himself. Ellestine charged at Ren with amazing speed, Ren thought impossible for a human to posess, as Ren was watching, Ellesting flicked his sword. Ren was now in pure shock.. Ellestine had been using the reverse side of his blade this whole time. Ren could now see the intent in Ellestine's eyes, he wanted to finish it now. Ellestine flew at Ren with an attack aimed at Rens arm, Ren put his sword up to block. Ching! His sword was sliced though within a second, instead of following through with the slash Ellestine went with a powerful blow with his elbow to the side of Rens head. Ren dropped to the ground. Darkness..

WOW! I have to say...amazing! I never saw the reverse side of the sword coming! I love the way he held back the whole time.
I have a perfect saying for you if you want to use it later in your story, it's one of my own.
"It's better to over estimate your opponent than to underestimate."
It's one of my all time favorite sayings, one I still live to!
Nice work on the fist fighting details, I am so hooked!

Part Four: The Foreboding Wind

this is up to what i have already written.. im not sure when to expect to start writing more..

Ren awoke in strange surroundings, what looked like a small room, outside the window in his room was the backdrop of a large mountain, it was snowing. Outside his room Ren heard a conversation taking place. "...and what if he betrays us? can we really trust him? I think we should execute him now. I don’t think we can use him" said an unknown voice.
"I think that if we tell him the truth, about the clan hes been serving, he may come around, revenge is a strong insentive for him to join us" said Ellestine.
"Yes well, ill trust your word Ellestine, It hasnt been wrong yet, lets hope it continues to be that way, or you may face the same fate as him" said the unknown voice.
"I assure you master that if in the event that he betrays I will kill him, if I fail I will die with honour" said Ellestine
Ren heard footsteps walking away, and then someone approached the door and Ren quickly pretended to be asleep. A shadow fell across his still body. As he tried to relax his body into a sleep like manner, A cold substance was thrown on his face. Ren quickly jumped up in alarm.
"Arghh! What did you do that for?" said Ren
"Well that was for pretending to be asleep" Ellestine smiled and said
"Oh.. How did you know?" Ren said
"Well I've watched you sleep before and you tend to sleep very rigid and straight, but this time you seemed more relaxed" said Ellestine
"Oh.. I see" said Ren
"Well I guess in that case you must have heard the conversation outside your door then, So I wont dance around with words and get straight to the point. You've been captured because you know about some of our plans that we cant let seep into the Clans hands. So you have two choices, You either join us.. or we execute you with honour right now. But! before you decide I will tell you some things that you will be shocked to hear about your Clans rightous war as they call it, Alright?" said Ellestine
"Alright then, Lets hear the truth" said Ren
“Your clan, as you would refer to it as. Is based around lie’s and betrayal, It serves to suck the riches from the surrounding provinces, from the people that they swear to protect, to feed its ever hungering need to grab more land.” He said with a piercing gaze that wasn’t there before.
“But what about the murders of those peasants? They were murdered by the Orag clan” said Ren
“Those peasants were murdered by there own clan. The weapons they found in them were bought” he said
“This war is no-more righteous than the stones you stand on. They continue to preach that they stand for the greater good, that they stand for the people. When really they are killing the people, slowly yet surely destroying the lives of so-many lower classed people. They work tirelessly but to feed themselves, and yet, what food and resources they grow, are taken to feed the ever growing army. Leaving the peasants to steal from the rich, for there families, they steal, and for there families they are ultimately hung. Yet what more can these poor people hope for? This brotherhood was created to save the lower classes from tyranny and uphold the justice that is left in this fragile world” He said with finality.
“I.. I .. Don’t belive you..” Ren said overwhelmed by the feelings “This is the clan that ive grown up in all my life. That what ive been fighting for is but a lie. The men’s blood ive shed, all innocent people.Prove to me what you say is true!” Ren said.
“I will do better than that.. I will show you. When the sun rises tomorrow be ready to travel, we shall see the true colours of your righteous clan” He said, while backing out and closing the door.

Oh...to be honest...it's good but I have to disagree that he would have come to accept it so fast...I would have made him struggle a bit longer against this, not enough for him to be killed but enough for them to actually yake him and show him what is trually going on, let him see for himself that what his clan is doing is wrong. Just a thought, use it, abuse it, whatever comes in handy.

Part Five: A Village in A Camp

Ren was already up and prepared for the journey by the time Ellestine came to get him. It pained Ren a lot to leave the broken halves of his sword, but he knew if it came to a fight, it would be useless anyway. Ren had not yet been out of his secluded room, or for that matter out of his deep thoughts, but what he saw when he stepped out of the main building was astounding and shocked him back to reality. To explain it in terms that one would understand, this was more of a camp than a village. This was the most organized village Ren had ever seen. It seemed that everywhere he looked a person was working to benefit the larger community, everyone knew there place, they all had there own standing in this village. How is it that every man is so well coordinated? The village is bubbling with activity, yet this does not give way to chaos, it is completely under control. Everywhere he looked, people were running around delivering messages. Ren could hear the distinct ring of the smithy pounding the steel into tools or weapons, from one building wafted strange yet wonderful smells.

“How is this possible?” Ren said in an awed tone.
“What do you mean?” Ellestine said with a puzzled look.
“This village…? How is it that with the amount of activities taking place, it isn’t in chaos?” said Ren

Ellestine looked at Ren and smiled.
“This is the outcome of many generations of men and women trained since birth to find there talent and hone it. They are then given to an appropriate master and taught how to benefit the village, and how to help others. Whether it be fighting, smithing, cooking, tailoring or other such crafts these men dedicate there lives to the village and its cause. This village is the work of many generations of people that have given there lives for the sake of the greater good. This is the place where true warriors are born and where Hero’s are trained” said Ellestine with pride.

They continued walking and Ren was left to brood in his thoughts and devour the new information that he had just been fed. They continued on along a small path until they came across another building, here Ellestine stopped. Ren could see what seemed to be a group of men dressed in strange cloak like clothing. They were in a circular formation, but Ren couldn’t see what they all had there attention on.

“This is the school of blades, where the warriors of this village are trained to be the best, though only the men that show the most promise in fighting are accepted into the school.” Said Ellestine
“Is this where you were trained?” said Ren
“No, I wasn’t trained here… I was trained by my farther” said Ellestine.

The two men walked closer to the circle to get a good view of the event. In the circle two men were fiercely clashing swords in quick succession, both had there fair share of wounds running down there legs and arms.
“Why were you not trained here then?” said Ren.
“Because my farther is the best swordsman in the village… He is also the leader” said Ellestine a troubled look appearing on his face.
“Wait… So that makes you the heir to the position?” said Ren.
“Yes… That is correct” said Ellestine
But from Ellestine’s tone Ren could not make out whether this was a good thing or a bad thing. Before Ren could mention anything else about the matter, one of the men in the circle collapsed and a large cheer went up from some of the men in the circle. Money was exchanged and hands shook, obviously people had money riding on this fight. Two men with a stretcher ran in and picked up the man that had collapsed and another two men attended the victor’s wounds.

“I think that it is time that we started our journey, don’t you? Said Ellestine in a enthusiastic tone.
“Yeah, lets get going” said Ren, not knowing what lay ahead for the two, yet uncaring what his future held, for it seemed that Ren had found someone in which he could relate to.

The men strode towards the gates as the sun poked its head above the horizon.

Yeah! Another chapter to take my mind off of things here! Very good, you painted a very good picture of how this village works! I'm impressed...one argument, I'd rather say 'Where Hero's are raised' instead of trained, the way you had it was as if anyone could be a hero, was that what you meant?

Icestorm
08-17-2006, 07:45 AM
indeed, it means that if you can be allowed to train in this village, with the right amount of potential, you can become a hero. Because I did mention that only the people with the most amount of potential would be allowed into the school

Part Six: The Beginning of Something New

As the gates opened the scene that was revealed to Ren sent a shiver down his spine. It was the most beautiful landscape he had ever seen. The village itself was set up top a rather large hill, but surrounding the hill was snow capped mountains as far as the eye could see, and just peaking above the mountains was the sun in all its glory, rising above the giant peaks, shedding light upon the world for another day.

“Woah, its so beautiful” Ren remarked in a breathless tone.
“Yes it is” Ellestine smiled “It is good to see that some people don’t take for granted the beauties this world has to offer. Did you know that most people in the village have not strayed outside of the boundaries in all there life? They have not explored the amazing sights this world has to offer. Instead they are stuck to our cause. We, the brotherhood have hidden dormant in our village for centuries, only making impact when we see opportunity. This has been due to the fact that we do not have – or should I say we did not have, the numbers to make a bigger impact… but soon that will change, we will change the future.” Ellestine said

They continued to walk along the path in silence, Ellestine seemed to want to say something but hesitated every time he got close. They came to a small forest, the tree’s all covered in snow, all looking exactly the same.

As they continued walking suddenly Ellestine blurted out

“How many?” Ellestine said suddenly
“How many, what? Ren said looking puzzled.
“How many people have you killed?” Ellestine said quietly.
“Oh… I .. um.. I don’t know” Ren said still confused about the question.
“Would you believe me if I said I have only killed 5 men in my life?” Ellestine said his tone undistinguishable
“But… but… but… how can that be? You are the most amazing fighter I have ever seen. How is it that you killed only 5 people?” Ren said confused at the idea of Ellestine’s remark. This seemed like a different side to Ellestine that he had not witnessed before. It was like he was craving to talk to someone about this matter, like he had never shared his thoughts with another.
“Those men… that I killed were our own people” Ellestine said sadness entering his voice, like his emotions were choking up his words. “My farther… he ordered me… when I was 13… he ordered me to kill these men. He said that these men were planning to leave the village. He said that if I was to be his son, to live up to the family name…” bitterness now entered his voice. “That I would have to kill these men, in order to protect the village. I did not know at the age of 13 that these men… all they wanted was to be free from the cause that has practically enslaved our people. My farther gave them no choice. I cut them all down… all of them as they stood there… all of them”

He had now stopped, and was holding his hands out in front of him, looking down at his hands as if remembering the faces of the men he had killed.

Ren couldn’t think of anything to say to this man, it seemed that any words would prove to be pointless in the face of what this seemingly strong man had faced when he was young. It seemed to Ren that our childhood sometimes can even dominate our whole adult life. This line of thought brought back his own painful memories of Tessan and him. It occurred to Ren that he knew how this man felt. He thought to himself that even in the most heroic causes darkness can find a way to creep in, to effect the most good of people in one shape or form.

“I… Have never shared my grief with anyone before” said Ellestine quietly, his arms slumping to his side. “My farther… He never allowed me to have friends as I was a child. He believed that friendship at a young age would divert me away from my training. That to spend time with another was to waste time that could be used to further my training to become his next in line.” Ellestine said once again bitterness entering his tone. He looked up at Ren, but this time the sadness had gone from his eyes, replaced by hope.

“You, Ren are the closest thing I have ever had to a friend. Would you be my friend Ren?” he said in a child like manner, for it seemed that he indeed had never had a friend. Ren put one hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes and smiled.

“Of course, for it seems in this world, that it is always good to have a friend that you can rely on when the battle is thickest, whether it be with swords, or even with your own heart” Ren said a smile widening on his face. In return Ellestine smiled just as broadly.

They continued to walk and chatter, Ren sharing some of the more fonder memories that he had had with Tessan, in return Ellestine shared some of the fighting techniques that he had picked up from experience. They eventually reached the mouth of an enormous cave.

“This my friend, is how we shall reach our destination twice as fast as it would take a normal traveler” Ellestine said smiling. But Ren did not however share the smile, for he absolutely hated small darkened places.

A bit fast on the friendship thing but good! You misspelt Their as there, if you didn't know and when you spoke of Childhood memories influencing them I would think it would sound better if you have it as Ren's thought.
