Hello, everyone!
I've been following Bleach in anime form up until episode 80. However, I would like to start reading the manga where I left off in the anime. I realize that the "Bountou" arc is anime-only, so I'm left with this dilemma: what would be a good chapter to continue following Bleach? And are there are big differences between the anime and manga I should (or would like to be) aware of before I switch to manga?

You should start in chapter 182. They only differences I can think of is that Orihime is somewhat closer to Ichigo in the manga. also Kuukaku had only 1 arm in the manga while she had 1 arm plus a fake one in the anime
Dont worry you will like the manga

There's also a lot more short but meaningful scenes in the manga, like conversations that you don't get in the anime. You often see different sides to the characters this way.

::sigh:: Then it's a true shame that I've missed one hundred and eighty two chapters of them. Perhaps once I catch up I can go back and read through to find these little treasures? I'm also a Ichigo x Orihime type so it would be in my best interests.
Little extras make all the difference sometimes.

Yes, exactly.
It's good for us Tatsuki fans, as well, as she has more lines and comes across a little less vacantly in the manga. :)

Tatsuki is one of the best minor characters I've ever seen. I loved the episode where she was explaining Ichigo's past to Orihime. I'm disappointed with how little screentime she gets, actually. That's why I like reading her in fanfiction (when portrayed to my liking, that is).

I would just buy the manga straight from the beggining nothing bad with seeing stuff that didnt come out in the anime and it's more graphic so nothing wrong with havin both

Yeah, I liked that bit too. There's some really cool stuff later as well, so hurry up and read it!

Well, at the very least read it up to the end of the Soul Society arc.
Then, it's up to you. I mean, to me it's actually simultaneously made me hate and yet be able to put up with the filler. I hate it because it's so very, very lame compared to what should be happening but I can put up with it because I'm so excited about what's gonna happen when it ends!
I see it as like seeing the movie of a book or something. While in some ways it may seem that reading the book first will ruin the movie, it's actually interesting and exciting to see what they've done with the original material. Also, it may actually be harder to read the manga after having watched the anime than it would be to watch the anime after reading the manga, if you follow...?

I think that he, and a lot of other people, have the opinion that if they read the manga, they'll get too far ahead and ruin the anime.
Personally, it's got me into the anime even more, though I actually am now far more excited about the manga releases than the anime ones (at least until the filler dies.)

Wow. I wanted to close this thread (because there is a sticky telling everyone about when to start reading the manga... just check it out. It's called "Anime watchers who want to start reading the manga, read or DIE!!!" and it's a sticky so its hard to miss.
But since then it has developed into a discussion about how much better the manga is than the anime or vice-versa.
So this thread is closed because there is a sticky about it and because the whole world knows that anime<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<manga.
