where did you first learn about bleach?

Not sure if there is any topic about this but i just decided to make a new thread and see.
for me, i saw people talking about it..but i was never interested in anime or manga till some friend told me to try reading some of the different manga she bought from the book stores...then i got interested in watching anime. after i finished naruto..some friend suggested i watch bleach..which i've heard of but always thought as something not worth watching.

I had just heard the name mentioned online and in videogame magazines (in reference to the first PSP game a while ago) and eventually I thought I'd check it out. I was actually really unimpressed by the first episode and didn't bother watching any more for ages.

Then my housemate downloaded it because he'd heard about it off me and said the same thing that I said; it just didn't look very good. Still, he perservered because he wanted something to watch while waitiing for the Naruto fillers to end, and I eventually heard that it gets better and less generic. So I resumed watching it and ended up enjoying it, obviously. I still think that, taken in isolation, episode 1 is a really dull and unpromising episode.

Yeah, it wasn't that it was total crap or anything. It just lacked any spark or sort of addictive quality. I mean, I've seen some pretty crappy first episodes in my time, and Bleach is nowhere near as bad as them.

I actually think it's because KT kind of makes a lot of the story up as he goes along, so he couldn't really foreshadow things properly, and it just ended up as "boy meets girl, boy and girl meet monster, monster meets pointy end of boy's sword" which is the oldest story in the book. True, it touched on the duties of a Shinigami and that's one of the things that elevated it above being totally forgettable. Little did I know it would go on to have the Gotei 13, with some of the best anime characters ever, as well as concepts such as bankai and the characters that are the zanpakuto, like Zangetsu and Zabimaru.

Yeah, that is probably what is going to draw my white friends away from it... Since they are incapable of watching anything online other than porn... They will have to watch the first episode of the dub and say "wow, this sucks... Hey Mark, you like this garbage?"

Edit- For anyone wondering, I am white... I have a decent amount of friends of diffrent race and different interests. My asian friends prefer subs like I do...

i was surfing around the net for a nice anime series to watch, i then found the title bleach (from animenewsnetwork) which intrigued me... i mean why "BLEACH" for a title, then I read the summary of the series and i said to myself "Why not give it a try" then when i watched the first episode i loved it. i am talking about the anime here then after watching a few anime episodes and surfing the net, i learned about the manga then started reading and downloading it. :)

Well, I began watching BLEACH out of curiosity. It started when I wanted to find the last episode of Trigun because I love that anime and thought the last episode was freakin' awsome, so I found a website where I could download different kinds of animes, well, @ least the ones that were free. The ones I originally wanted to see, well, I had to pay a premium membership just to watch so then I went, "I have to pay just to watch these...?! *sigh*" so then I just checked out the ones that were free for download and in the list were animes I have either seen on Adult Swim or crappy anime noone wanted to see but then one caught my eye called "BLEACH". I thought it sounded like something that would be really funny involving competitive cloth washing competitions, cause you know the japanese would come up with something crazy like that, lol. But it totally wasn't what I had expected when I downloaded the 1st episode since I knew nothing about it, but after watching the 1st episode of BLEACH, I really liked it, and began to watch it until the current episode (which was 24 @ the time). I didn't get hooked until the whole mentioning of Soul Society and other Death Gods much much more powerful than Ichigo and Ichigo having to train to be more powerful to save Rukia, that's when I got really hooked and couldn't get enough of watching BLEACH.

Way back when it was first brought out in english, I actually picked it up the day vol 1 was released. I just saw it and was like "eh?" flipped through the pages and thought Kubo's art was pretty cool. I bought it JUST for that. Read through it, wanted more, and had to cope with manga-rain's BS to get more.

Ahh, those were the days. Back when Bleach wasn't very well known and the fandom had mostly intelligent fans...

I miss those days. (I remember when the latest chapter released was like, Ichigo & his crew JUST reaching Rukia, and Byakuya popping in to wreck the crew's shit. God that was so long ago...)
