I'm sure I'm not alone here...Does the US really have what it takes to maintain the AWESOMENESS that is bleach? I mean, we all saw how Cartoon Network completely destroyed Naruto. They totally butchered everything. But then its clearly geared to the younger audience...its right there next to yu-gi-oh g/x and teen titans. If your an avid fan of Naruto, you were not impressed by Cartoon Network's version 2.0...hell, if your an avid fan your not even watching television, let alone CARTOON NETWORK. lol. Anyway...when i saw the ad for Bleach I was feeling kind of queasy about it. I'm feeling ups and downs because it could still be good ole classic bleach because it's actually Adult Swim and not Cartoon Network at all. Should we be forewarned?

To the all the people who don't know about bittorrent, Bleach is gonna be a smash hit. Because those people don't start off a show with the stereo type "english dubs = bad" They just appreciate it for what it is. The mind is a powerful thing. If you come into something expecting that you won't like it, Then chances are you won't like it. As far as the blood goes, Adult swim can definately handle it. Seeing as how it's not really that gorey. Compared to animes like Berserk , Gantz, and Elfen leid, Bleach is like a kiddy show.

Well, you never know the outcome of this until the show actually comes out, as the featured Voice actors were quite fitting for the show, and like you said, Adult Swim is airing Bleach so we can safely say that about no scenes would be butchered at all.
Either way you are going to have to wait for the real thing to be aired or you can't really make a judgement. Afterall, there were some animes that turned out better then the original when they came to America, so we can only hope that Bleach will be a lucky one to do better(or the same) then the original.

Hmm... you can't say that for sure when the serie is still ongoing, but no doubt the bleach anime ain't as bloody as the manga.
Looking at ZP Bleach might become more violent then we have seen this far.
Though if you want to see blood, i would advice taking a look at "Ginga Nagareboshi Gin" or "Ginga densetsu Weed" as Mangas.
There you see stuff like dogs tearing up stomachs of humans and eating the organs, later this dog im thinking about, lay it self upon the dead body, crushing it beneath it's weight getting blood and more in its fur.

Well I am not intereted in dubbed anime.I don't know why but i don't like it except some really rare times like Berserk that fitted nice.I won't say anythink like if it is going to be good or bad.And even if it really is bad one think matters. There are many kids from 5-15 years old that don't have access to internet or don't know about anime and stuff and watch every week the new episode with joy and are happy.Cauze that's what anime is.Making people happy. We that don't like can contineu d/l it and never see it in TV and there won't be any problem.

he CAN say that for sure when the series is still ongoing. In bleach, no one dies. There's a little blood, thats it. It's not going to get more violent. If it did, it would have to become seinen, and it's not going to do that.

To anyone who cares: Adult Swim has set up a Bleach website. http://www.adultswim.com/shows/bleach/index.html
As predicted, *Asterisk and Life is Like a Boat are the opening and ending songs respectively and apparantly are going to be shown in their entirety on TV.
Also, the episode guide shows that soul candy has been left as being called Gikongan

thats what i like about adult swim, they leave the openings intacked. I am also glad they aren't overtranslating everything.
There is no way in hell Bleach is becoming a kiddie show, Naruto is already a bad show, let Bleach still be cool.
Bleach isn't a show for brats and annoying kids who don't even watch anime, they just sit for five minutes then bounce off the chair and run around.
Besides don't kids have Pokmon or Yigo? Or what ever its called? Let us Intelligent adults and teens have the good anime, who actually PAY for it.

1: If US companies like Viz can do an awsome job on dubbing once, they can do it again.
2: Naruto was NOT Butcherd. Don't you dare try and tell me Naruto was the same standard as One Piece! Naruto still has blood in it, has the majoraty of lines correct, has voices that fit the characters (not exactly, but still good) and still sticks with Cartoon Networks regulations. For what Viz could do with it, Naruto was a resonably good dub!
3: It's not Cartoon Network that butcher things. They just air stuff. It's 4kids entertainment who are the real anime destroyers. NEVER watch anything done by them.
4: Teen Titans isn't an Anime. It's an American animated show losley based on old comics with some anime "Styal" experssions.
5: Don't claim that if you are an "Avid Naruto Fan" you won't watch things on cartoon network. If you look at things right, you can see which are the good and which are the bad dubs. If you are a Naruto fan, you like what you like and can at least see how the dub can be good. It's not like One Piece where there is little to nothing that can be excuseable.

But the people who have never watched Bleach wont know the diffrence. They dont really ruin the show because most people who watch anime would know about these fan sites and would watch the Jap versions.

that is very true and i agree totally. those who don't know the characters by their japanese voice, they would think it is good. i have no problems accepting that fact. those who watch the japanese would always like the japanese one, because it's the original voices.

Its kinda the same as with everything really... the thing that came first, or that you experienced first becomes the favoured thing and anything that comes after it can in no way match or exceed your opinion of the original... hence, pretty much all sequels sucking...
For people who watch the english dub first (and then find out there are over 100 extra eps already available!) they'll probably not like the japanese subbed original... especially if they have little or no experience in watching subbed anime.
Personally I watched both within such a little time and had no preconceptions about either (I've never seen an episode of Naruto - yet - dubbed or not... dont kill me!) and love both... and I eagerly await the release of the latest dub and the latest sub.
I look forward to finding out how and when it's gonna make its way to the UK... if at all... other than you-tube theres no way I can watch the dubs here... sadness.
Sorry for bumping an old thread.

Sometimes im just sick of Adultswim or anyother connection in the tv world to stop dubbing animation show into american style cuz they totally screw with the show main concept and alter all the voices and leave out anygood parts that you could just see on Bleackportal. i mean the whole idea was al right but when i first say the bleach 1 i didnt like it at all it didint give the feel of the japanesse feeling to it.

Cartoon Network jsut playst he shows they don't have a hand in any of the editing. So stop blaming them sheesh
Atrias

Yeah you can't bame Cartoon Network, they only decide what to air and pay the production team for the rights to do so. Sure, you could say that Cartoon Network sucks for puttin on an inferior product to the original, but thats your own individual taste speaking and not that of the american viewing public who would not relish the thought of watching - for example - Bleach in Japanese with fansubs on their TV.
Its all about the money and sufice to say english dub Bleach is a more certain winner than the original \ sub version and naturally preferable to not doing it at all (which obviously generates no money) hehe.
Sorry if I strayed off the point... meh!

No, they change some of the storyline, though not much.
The reason for this is that there are things in the Japanese culture that we would not particularly understand, small subtle actions between characters and little things like that. They change some of the lines to 'make more sense' to americans.
The general storyline is intact, however some of the interaction dialouge bwtween the characters changes.

An example of this is when they were giving Kon his name. They actually used the Japanese word for soul "Konpaku" to explain his name, which I was quite impressed with. Ichigo said, "because Kon is short for Mod Konpaku, which is what you are." Of course in the English version, Kon suggests calling him "Mod" instead of Kon, and in the Japanese version Kon wants to be called "Kai" because Ichigo says calling him "Kaizou Konpaku" is too long. In the English version the humor is lost on this line... in Japanese Ichigo says "Kai sounds cool... therefore it pisses me off!" LOL... still one of my favorite lines in the series after 100+ episodes.
Anyhow, I think they've done a great job with the dubs. It still doesn't compare to the Japanese version, but it holds its own. Great acting, good character choices. The voice for Kon took a little getting used to... but overall they've done a great job.

well i started out watching naruto on adult swim then moved to watching subs.... i heard alot about bleach in my time watching naruto and figured i would check it out.... i did and it completely blew naruto out of the water... but back to subject... the dubs arent that bad if you dont mind a few changes... i personally only watch anime because it airs on adult swim... if i ever start to really like an anime ill branch out and start with subs but just to be sure i even remotely like it i always watch the dubs ..... i mean dubs arent a bad thing its just that that do wut they can with what little they have... i mean there is some content they edit out becasue the places they air it are directed towards kids of the ages 12-15 (or even younger) so they try to keep it clean ... if they had the leeway that the japanese have when making an anime i bet that people would be watching dubs alot more... but they have to filter and change and rearange everything to make it ok to air in america... its kinda like taking out a few pieces of a puzzle of course its not going to be perfect but i dont think it would hurt to lose one- two pieces... all im saying is that its hard to air something froma different country here because of the people here... at one time there was even talk of the president banning all anime here in the states becasue he felt the dubs to be too violent.... soo if you have an economy where the smallest sight of blood is a reason to shut something down you have to make do

As someone said, the Japanese version also uses a woman for Naruto's voice. It's common. Hell, did you know that Orochimaru's (Japanese) Voice Actor is also a woman? Hah, that ought to mess with your head.
Anyway, back to Bleach... no, don't like the Dubs. I'm sure I'd like it if it was the first thing I had seen rather than the subs. But... I don't know, English doesn't seem to suit the style of most anime.
Dubs seem to serve a purpose, anyway. Some people seem to find it impossible to read and watch at the same time. Hell, I know some dyslexic people who need the dubs. So, sure, I don't think they're as good, but they're important enough that I don't think Dubs should be banned or suck or whatever like others seem to think.

I am one of the very few people in the world (US) that does not mind any of the dubbed versions (nor do I mind the "mess-up" of Renji).
I am someone who can take things in stride, and I have watched all the episodes in the subbed version, and while the Japanese voices are great, there's potential that the English dubs will be too. One never knows about these things, even though people pretend to know and they spout off at the spigget.

Imo the Bleach dubs aren't an atrosity to the originals, as was the case in dbz where blood, cursing, over-exaggerated fighting grunts, music, were seriously altered.. Even the aspect of dying was removed and replaced with being sent to another world.
Even the show airing won't change the fact I watch it in subs though. :D

subb's are most likely better then the dubb's, but the fact that you don't hsve to focus on the bottom of the sceen while looking at the whole thing put's it in perspective and makes for a better watch, I reckon.
as for the Bleach sub's, they are one of the best dubb's Ive ever heard, and I've seen more dubb'd then subb's.
Renji's VA, while not perfect, does suit his character, I reckon. if you can think of someone else, then you have a right to critisize it.
I'm just glad that 4(go screw yourselve's)kid's didn't get this. it would end up being a 5 minute show consisting of what was said, heavily edited to make it seem cool and up with the time's and with no fight shown due to the blood and certainty of death.

I would agree that the Renji voice is cacked up above and beyond all the Bleach characters so far, which considering he is a central character - certainly within the fillers and beyond - could pose a problem to many hardcore fans dropping off. I just hope he improves within later eps which, seeing as all of the Team Urahara voices have improved immensely since ep1 ect I think we could see.
Overall I still feel they have done an amazing job with the dub and I still can't really think of anything in translation, scripting, voicing or editing that I am unhappy with and that they could have changed.
