Does anyone here watch cricket? I put cricket into the search bar and to my surprise there were no threads on the subject, but anyway do you watch cricket and if you do what are your thoughts on it? I think it's one of the best sports out there. It's testing, it's pacey, it's all I could ever ask for.

Most of the people on these forums(or so I've heard) are from North America which generaly doesn't watch anything from other countrys. We only watch football and baseball and cars that go around in circles for hours. Hence, the non posts on Cricket. I have played Cricket tho. I knew some people with a nice open area and they were like lets play so i did. It's pretty fun. Definitely where we got baseball from so I don't know why people here don't watch it... I just don't watch it because I only watch sports if the T.V. is on sports because then I don't feel like changing it.

wow, some1 else who's heard of this game. good stuff
yeah, i used to play cricket a lot, it's one of the games where India is next to number 1 and Aus IS number 1 :D. works for me.
i watched it all the time...however it's a bit too slow sometimes:
ie/// bowler runs up...every1's excited...bowls...
and if the batsmen blocks it... then they grab the ball..shine it...walk back....repeat.
lol, not really a team sport where everyone has to work together as one...
don't get me wrong i luv cricket...it's my second fav sport...just these may be the reasons y ppl aren't into it that much.
i loved batting...the amount of skill it takes just to hit a cover shot (my fav) and to get it right every time.
wat about u TheGenius?
wat r ur thoughts on this game...?
Miyata
09-17-2006, 09:08 AM
My thoughts on the game are that it takes a lot of hard work to pull of a win. I mean you need to get the fielders in the right places and you have to bowl the right line and lenght so it really is pretty hard.
As for teamwork, I agree with you that yooou don't need everyone on the field concentrating but if the bats men plays a loose shot and it goes to a specific fielder that isn't concentrating, it doesn't look too good does it?
I think the main reason why perple don't watch it is because they think it is boring. Your example was a very good one where everyone is getting excited and then the batsman just blocks it, I love the game but know that it can get tedious at times like that.
And I can see why you like the cover drive so much because it takes skill and timing to pull it off. Me, I'm more of a bowler :redbiggri , but if I do bat then it's the straight drive that keeps me going!

09-17-2006, 09:15 AM
lol, awesome.
been a while since i talked cricket
yeah, i agree with u on the whole field placings. i've seen many times where a captain analyses the batsmen...then may make a field change and the batter hits it straight at the fielder or in his vicinity.
wat do u bowl? pace or spin...?
i bowl pace...can't spin for sh!t...except offspin *sortoff*.
hmm....where r u from.. there are limited countries that play cricket that's y.
Miyata
09-17-2006, 09:33 AM
I'm more of a pace bowler, and from that you should be able to tell which country I'm from, since most of the greatest pace bowlers come from there.

Not quite. I'll give you two clues. The best opening bowling pair in the world ever came from this country. And here's the biggest clue I can give you. The origin of the Chicken Man Dance. :Haha

09-17-2006, 02:34 PM
Cricket is hands down my favorite sport..................
Well i bowl medium pace with a little bit of swing in it. I usually look at the situation. If i need a wicket then i will bowl my medium pace, but if i need to lower the runrate then i will bowl off spin.
Rayster
09-17-2006, 02:40 PM
ohh man...does any1 know where the fricken chicken man dance came from or am i just unknowledgeable??
oh well, my first guess was gonna be this but i'll say......england...??
Miyata
09-17-2006, 03:07 PM
You're right in a way. The Chicken Man dance was directed at England but they weren't the team that created it. The team that created it was *insert team name here*. Here's your last clue. A bowler in this team as the first man to ever bowl a maiden in Twenty20 cricket.

Miyata
09-17-2006, 04:17 PM
I'm sorry but both of you didn't hit anything. The country I was looking for was Pakistan.
The first bowler to bowl a maiden in Twenty20 cricket was Mohammed Asif.
Pakistan started the chicken man dance, directing it at Kevin Pietersen.
And the best opening bowling pair in the world ever was Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, both from Pakistan.
And Zenpou Tenshin, which team do you support?
Zenpou Tenshin
09-17-2006, 04:27 PM

Who's your favourite player Zenpou?

Yup, i've never been to an actual match before. How's the experience???
Rayster
09-18-2006, 02:13 AM
I've been to the MCG twice. The first time was the match b/w Pakistan and Australia in the 2004 Boxing Day match.. and the second was for the Tsunami fundraiser appeal match at the MCG.
It was fricken awesome...the atmosphere...doesn't compare to that of the tv. Well, both times i went it was a really sunny day so the experience wasn't spoiled by anything, and i went with my family&friends. It was so cool to see some of the world's best players take to the field right in front of you.
...Ricky Pointing...
I live in his home Suburb in tasmania...I've met him about 3 times and got his autograph..He's a pretty cool bloke..But smaller then i expected.
Australia is the leading nation atm...
It'sa pity we lost the ashe's to england though..

I agree. I think Hussey is going to be a fine player. But Ponting is one of the best. Yet he has been challenged lately for the top spot in the ICC test rankings by none other than Mohammed Yousuf! He's been in superb form lately, and if this form carries, he's sure to get to the top spot.

but is it only one team or two...?
2 from each group and seeing as how things are standing right now it will be the aussies and India. Then it will be a good match in the semis and final.

HUH? Well if you see the form of the Pakistani batting side I think you will change your mind. Look at their current form against the West Indies. Mohammed Yousuf broke Viv Rachards' 30 year old record and now Pakistan are getting their 2 key bowlers back.
They are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the World Cup :D.
Dude! You're scaring me!! Two bowlers back... while we lose our two... (well McGrath is after the WC)...
I agree that Pakistan is a good team... They strive to get a high rep.. they're achieving it slowly... making their way up too

Very disappointed that we had lost, but even if Australia had kept going till 11pm... I think we prolly would have like 26 more to win... what were the chances of getting 59 in that time limit?

i doubt AUstralia would have made it even if they kept playing, the diff b/w the balls and runs was too great, even for them....but we have seen them slog their way to victory before
so yeah, congrats to England for winning. They really deserved it.
Now see if they do that well in the world cup. I dunno about it though, reckon it might be a india vs aussie or india vs eng final. hope it is.

All four tests are finished.
Australia won the first test. Good win. [1-0]
India should have won the second. Aussies cheated, no doubt (unbiased view here: Umpires got sacked, huge controversy) [2-0]
India won the third on a track that was crafted purely for Aus bowlers [2-1]
Last test was a draw. India lost their best bowler to injury after making 532 in the opening innings and couldn't wrap up the Aussies. [2-1]
India vs Australia: 20-20 match tonight!
India are the 20-20 World Cup Champions, having beaten Australia in the semi-finals. And then even after the WC, India has beaten Aus in another 20-20 match. Two-nil currently in terms of 20-20 matches played against each other favouring India
On the MCG though, so should suit Aussies much, much better. in which case at least this match will be a close one =)

dhoni chose this side because he wants a team of players that have played atleast 100 ODIs by the 2011 world cup.
have to say tho that india had the upper hand in both of the test matches and could quite easily have won.
against australia, they came out after the first rain delay and claimed 2 wickets in 2 overs, sreeshanth was doing really well and so was sharma. the wet made the ball swing and there was some uneven bounce. it also makes scoring a lot harder. hayden and clarke were really struggling at the crease.
against srilanka, the pure fact that they got past 250 when they were 4 down without losing a wicket was a huge boost, plus the srilankan batsmen were putting in a lot of effort in the field where as the indian bowlers and batsmen had a good rest and were fresh for the second innings (except gambhir and dhoni). also the srilankans showed that the ball was swinging and moving around. esp after a drizzle the pitch quicklly became a bowlers pitch.
but i guess thats the way the cookie crumbles.
JimmyTbh
02-06-2008, 04:37 AM
Yes Lee did well in that game 2 so obviously the pitch was very good for bowlers. Hayden had a 2 - 3 week break not surprising he struggled, But the good thing is he's back and also I believe that India purposely targets him :P

its good in my opinion simply because without lara; when he is in form; the windies dont really have much of a batting squad. Dont get me wrong they can still bat but they dont have many pure batters like chanderpaul. so in that respect it is good.

Its basically a sport that only commonwealth countries play. There a various different forms of the game 20-20, One day & Test only different is how long they go for. The basics are you have a wooden flat faced bat. The idea is to hit a ball coming at you at high speeds and run between wickets to score runs. To get a batsman out you ball him out by hitting the wickets, lbw (leg before wickets), Catch him out or Run him out by hitting the wickets before he gets to the other side of the pitch.
Here is some Adam Gilchrist. To show you what cricket is :D

Rayster
02-11-2008, 09:21 AM
lol. You sound surprised.
Before the game started, even greats like Bill Lawry had their money on India. Their batting line up and bowling is slightly above Australia's, esp since Aus' players average age is 31, and India's is about 22. Much more prone to adapt
Table, for those who don't know:
India: 8 points [played 3]
Australia: 7 points [played 3]
Sri Lanka: 2 points [played 2]
And yes, this is correct.
4 points for a win
2 for a draw
0 for loss
India vs Sri Lanka is tomorrow. India has a chance to make the gap huge.

Well deserved too.
The media in Australia is so retardly biased it's laughable.
The still maintain Harbhajan is a racist, when they don't even know his language. Even Pakistan backed Harbhajan. That says a lot about the relations between teams, and what world cricket thinks of Aus cricket.
They never say that the GABBA crowd of Aussies bashed many innocent Indian fans in the stands.
They never say that Aus supporters were degrading the Indian flags.
Nor when Hayden and co. made racist jokes against the Indians. He was let off with a reprimand. Not even a token fine.
Nah, only when the opposition does something. This just leads to the ignorant racist violence that Australia has become so well known for. The media only spurs them on, never giving both sides of the story.
Also funny news.
In Aus papers: "Ricky Ponting was only unable to perform because he had to play in all the Test games, and was thus tired"
What a load of shit. Dhoni, also captain (of India) played in every single game of Test and One Day. And he's a wicketkeeper. Far more work than just standing out in the field and running after the odd ball. You have to concentrate for EVERY SINGLE delivery.
Then they laugh at India for thinking that they are one of the superpowers of cricket.
Hm. yes. Got belted in the World Cup (although they did set a new world record for most runs scored. Go figure) because majority of the players who played are now retired from One-Days.
But.
Who won the Under 19's world cup just this month?
India.
Who won the T20 World Cup just last year?
India.
Who just won the tri-nations cup that featured the current World's Best team, and the Best subcontinent teams?
India.
