View Full Version : Oil Spots
Anyone got any good tips of removing oil spots on keyboard? I think i'll try rubbing alcohol and see if it works.

What do you mean when you say oil spots?
I notice that desktop keyboards never get oils spot but Laptop or any flat keyboards get these spots easier. They are very dark spots that are "smooth" and icky. You get it if you eat chips while typing =D.

You can try rubbing them with a piece of rough clothing.

i believe that scotch tape works on the keyboards keys at one time. Try that and see if that works. Also if it doesn't i apoligize and just wear gloves if it is a problem.

uh, huh.... whenever anyone spills on my keyboard, i just find a clean cloth to rub it with... sometimes i'll get it just a little wet. that always works for me.
lol, wearing glove sucks. Right now, rubbing alcohol has failed me (70%). Windex has also failed me. Someone recommended me water with soap and massive scrubbing. I should buy a new keyboard for this laptop with better resistance I guess. What evil oil/grease spots.
it happens sometimes to me. well what i do is i use like a water and then just clean the keyboard. well if tehyhave been for quite a long, then won't disappear. because it sticks already.

use dish soap its a degreaser straight dish soap will break any oil down.
1)take a clean cloth add small amount of dish soap
2) clean off the spots indevidualy wipe with dry cloth to remove most residue
3)use a litely damp cloth to finish cleaning.

I would first off reccomend not eating chips while using your keyboard :D Might help... Also I find that oil is there for too long it really is hard to get off. Have you tried nail varnish remover? Its a little stronger than plain alcohol...
Chips + Soda while using keyboard ftw :p. Thanks for the tips, I'll try these tips.

Lol, I did pizza and mountain dew once.
That seriously shitted my keyboard to crap.
What I did was unplug the keyboard (duh), then remove the keys one by one and wash them with a wet, soapy paper towel. Worked for me.

Well... You could go for the easy way, or the tedious more effective way.
In the easy way, you just ignore it and forget they even exist. (Lousy solution, perfect for the lazy :))
Your other alternative is to unplug every keyboard button, clean it thoroughly under tap water and some dish washing soap and plug it back in. Though... It can take A LOT of time doing this. Specially that laptop keys are hard to remove plug back in without screwing up something. (Expert in that field, thats how I managed to make my "equal" key stop working. Now everytime I need to type in "equal" or "plus" I need to copy and paste it from Microsoft Word >_>).

Oh, I didn't see the laptop part.
Don't do my way then, it's a pain in the ASS to put them back in right. :D
