"The Selective Service System is the means by which the United States administers military conscription. It entails registering all men between the ages of 18 and 25 with the system for the purpose of having information available about potential soldiers in the event of war."

Well I'm turning 18 in February and I just want to be clear on one thing. I was wondering, do I have to register? I'm unsure because I was born in Canada and and my family moved to the US. And so I have a Green Card and my parents say I still have my Canadian Citizenship (or as I was told...). So does this make me exempt from having to registering? I just thought its best to understand this more. I'm justa confused Canadian living in the US @_@

I'm pretty sure you don't have to. I'm a girl though, so I didn't have to sign up. I would ask your school counseler, cause they will know. Good luck!

Indeed..

Sucks to be you though...Become a draft dodger.

But i'd doubt it if you hold duel citizenship since you might be drafted by canada first..:P

canada doesnt have wars...psh.... but no you most likely cant be drafted, but you can ask a army representive or as listed above you're school consuler. I myself being a UU cant be drafted do to religious reasons. (there anti war and im protected by something or that at least what my mom says...)

you are not exempt so you have to register for the SSS or they automaticly do it (happened to me), they may not draft you but it helps for student aid.

I'm a girl, so I didn't have to go through this.

Umm... my stepbrother I think was required to sign up, but he was born in the US and everything. (He would've gotten a fine or something otherwise) If there's some sort of dual citizenship, then I don't think you have to, but I would if you didn't have one, just in case... I doubt you'd get drafted or anything, though.

even holding dual citizenship you are required by the US to register if you plan to continue being dual and live in the US. its unlikely they will call you because your born outside the US but it has happened before and probably will again.

no it doesn't it give you the option of do it during so you don't have to go to a recruiters office but it's not required.....I rember doing that last year

how ever I don't have to go in the event there is a war, too many physical diblitations (ex. lax ligament in my left knee, flatt footed, horrible lung capacity)
these thing don't efect my daily life but I can't be put into environments that require extreem physical activity

^ Really? I'm lazy to check it now but I could of sworn it required you to register if you were at least 18 years of age.
