To be honest, I hate it when people use leet language. Its annoying and hard to read.

Likewise, I don't like it =/. I don't like shorthand typing either, but its much bearable than reading l33t. It takes me a lot of time to type something in it too.
Leet is most used in games because it's somewhat more satisfying to stand over a fallen foe and say
"I Just Pwned Joor Ass"
Insread of
I just beat you....

oh shorthand is so annoying now and days I type u intead of you all the time. pwned, l33t, haxors, newb, are all terms (i know them because of world of warcraft). []D [] []\/[] []D is another thing but yeah i know alot of random stuff like that heh

1337 |5 4\/\/350|\/|3.
Not.
It really annoys me when people use it to type on forums... in email or chat. It's really frustrating just to read it. I really hate typing in text message (short hand) writing. I type proper because it's so much easier to read, and because I can do it (I never write 'you' as 'u' XD). :)
But I do use the now-and-then phrases every so often... Like "pwn" or "n00b". Nothing THAT extreme. =/

I find it difficult to read sometimes, and you could say that I pretty much dislike it. Though, I do use it from time to time, though not to the extreme of it being in every sentence.

Example: ! _/(_)$7 134|?/\/3|) vv#47 1337 /\/\34/\/5.
Translation: I just learned what Leet means.
Huuray! but i still wont use it.
Example: ! _/(_)$7 134|?/\/3|) vv#47 1337 /\/\34/\/5.
Gaaahhh!!! i cant read that *point to quote* at all!!! :sad
Lolz.
It is kinda annoying when people use leet speak in Forums or when they're messaging you.
Whats the problem with taking the few extra seconds to make your post legiable?
Leet is good when you are using it and you don't have time to type a lot, like in halo online, you dont get time to type what you want to type in normal, so you use leet. Like instead of saying 'everyone get XXXXXXXX and whoop his ass' you say 'evri1 gt XXXXXXXX ass & whup' or instead of 'shut the f*** up' you use 'stfu' and so on.

^ditto
Still, leet speak is kinda hard to understand and it takes time read. If it's between 2 or more people with the same understanding of the language, then it would be actually good, especially when you need to keep your message simpple and short. But when people try to show off with it....it gets annoying. What's so great about using a language only u can understand?

I just wish people would just use normal english to reply back to people. Not everybody enjoys using or reading leet language.
Use slang language: eg. Helloz, mah fwiends n mi r..... blah blah blah. Fine with me, thats not to hard to read, though I never use it. Too complicated.

leet speak originated in online gaming mostly for the dueling crowds who wanted to show how in they were. yet long before leet speak people used to write words with calculators like 710 77345 (which reads upside down on a calculator as shell oil)
"pwn" was created by kids who can't type quickly without hitting the wrong keys. for some reason it stuck and now litters the language of millions on line and off.
then leet speak got another boost by the hack users and words like h4><0|2 became popular its every other kid that calls themselves "7331 h4><0|2 "even though they can't clear the temp files on a computer without help much less code actual scripts.

I agree it does seem to be more consistant in the younger generation of gamers, who tend to do anything to fit in.. I myself cant stand it.. pwn was originally used as an insult and not as the actually phrasing.. but for some reason along the way it was transfered..
in my opinion if you have to result to such stupid vocab, then its more of a sign that your a 'noob', I dont mind the lower key internet terms like, owned, pwn and noob as such.. but when they start replacing words with numbers It gets really frustrating

Wow, I agree with that. I hate when retards think they're so cool and go "Z0/V\G I just PWNED J00!!!"
First off, being a gamer and a decent CS player (by decent I mean my score is positive like always, but sometimes I have my good days and my score is like 30-6) I don't have the time to write out all of that nonsense. As in most games if you take time to type that stuff our and start looking for all the keys and numbers and stuff you'll probably get killed by some random guy running along.
Yes the occasion, "ZOMG PWNED" is ok because it takes like 3 seconds to type it while the one I showed earlier took me like 15 seconds. Yes I use gaming phrases, but not hardcore. Just the usual: wtf, haxzor, zomg, pwned, raped, and my personally favorite "YOU GOT SPANKED"

I'm very much a n00b when it comes to these things. L33t language? Difficult to read. I call it the "new generation code". It's annoying when people could just type in normal english... people who do type in leet language are just making it difficult for others on purpose.

rofl, yeah it can be hard to read. And btw, I think it takes more time to write l33t then normal english, so only reason to use it is to make it difficult for others.
and btw check this link, If someone else posted it, sry. =P

plus there is also the point for the people who aren't native speakers of English... >_>
Frightening enough, I can understand 1337 quite well, even though my native language is not even related to English, and even though I'm no gamer myself. :D

Well Im not a native English speaker, but I do understand l33t ^^
But I got to say that I am a gamer, Even thought the only words I use a few times would be like: ownd, pwn, lol, rofl. Nothing very l33t. Im not one of the really "cool" Css (CSS like in counter-strike: source not Cascading Style Sheets ^^) people:

i have a hard time reading leet !!!

it's like reading my friends notes in classes, or like text messaging.

meh back in the day we'd throw a zero or a three every now and then, back when the newly used 'pwn' used to be 0wn3d.
either way, l33t died out a looooong time ago, and i don't miss it....but i still get annoyed when i hear 'i pwnd j00' lol
