View Full Version : Bleach Voice Concerns !

Firstly, let me say that if I thought I could post this in an exsisting voice thread I would have.
Second, Lets hope this doesnt pertain to my one thing, so instead of having 3490872394 threads about HOLY $%$^ IS PERSONS VOICE GOING TO SUCK?! Y'all can just post here.
Finally, my concern happens to be Gin. After he fights Ichigo at seireitei's gates, when they're closing, he says "Bye Bye", in that voice only Gin could do. Do you think Gins dub VA could dupe that? Would it "ruin" his character?
I think it'd ruin his character abit. At least for me, I've come to know Gin by that.. it just defines his whole character for me >.< Im sure more than one person knows what I'm talking about...:pblow:

No, at least not to my knowledge, since gin is still 5~6 months away. I meant the VA for Gin(Whoever that may be), do you think they could do it like that, and if not how would it affect the character.. ect ect ~_~

Well it needs alot of practice. I dont see at as impossible. The problem with the translating companies now is that they make the sounds as if everyone is a child.
Remember naruto ? Japan makes it . The USA takes it first and then it comes to the UK . In this procedure the voices get really bad and childish.
So i dont really except much from the bleach dub.

Wait, so your complaing that they made the cast of Naruto sound like children? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 2/3 of the cast of that show between 12 and 13. Which is, for all intents and puroseses, children?

At the start of the show, yes. Theyre all about 13~ But later on in the show(where the anime is now), theyre.. older? mid teen I'd assume <.> Not that anime characters age or anything, but the chunin exam didnt happen like.. yesterday in naruto :B

Thats a moot point as the anime (neither in Japan or the US) has reached the time jump. They are still in the 12-13 range during the exams.

well. Naruto and the others begin as 12 year olds anyway. I don't see the problem with that. Wouldn't it ruin it if Naruto's voice is too grown up? I think it would.

I'm concerned about Hitsugaya's voice - b/c techniquelly he's supposed to be a "kid" comapred to the others. and if they give him a kid's voice....
cos in japanese version we all know he's got a deep, authoritative voice which suits his character...
also i'm concerned about Byakuya. whether they can potray the noble that well... his attitude, his coldness and his character - but i have faith in this one. not too much on the hitsu one tho...

I still think Joshua Seth would make a good Hitsugaya. In case nobody knows, he did Hige on Wolf's Rain, and young Knives on Trigun. Also, Shobu on Duel Masters. I don't believe he's done anything for Naruto yet.

Realistically, Histugaya would have a kiddie voice based on his age, but I hope they don't take the practical approach. Part of his character is that, despite his apparent physical age, he's as wise as he is talented. It should be a little deeper.
I definitely don't want to hear any prepubescent male voice, when boys can sing as high as grown women, for Hitsugaya. For that matter, I wouldn't personally like it to sound like he'd rather be out playing on the playground *just because* he looks young. This is all stylistic. A fantasy of sorts.
Sure, someone who looks his age should have a light, young voice, but someone his age isn't a soul who might've been "existing" for several decades if not hundreds of years, and someone his age isn't a Captain Soul Reaper.
Besides, I think the Japanese distinguish when they want to get across that a young-looking character should have a younger voice. Yachiru, for instance. If they just cast voice on looks alone, it would have Ichigo and his classmates potentially sounding like Middle school kids...
The decision shouldn't be on age alone, but what role the character plays, that character's connection to the story, and so forth. I think Hitsugaya is meant to have that authoritative, mature voice that demands others treat him like the Captain he is, and not the kid he appears to be. That's how he acts anyway, always chastising his Vice-Captain who "appears" older, but acts so irresponsible. It'd be weird to have a whiney kid's voice chastising a woman like that.

I have to disagree. I don't want him sounding too old. I mean, it would sound weird to see someone who doens't look any older than 13 sounding like he's in his mid-thirtiees. Just because it might sound cooler doesn't mean its a good idea.

even how hard we tried to argue here .. .. .. its doesnt change the fact that hitsugaya got a adult voice . so wads deal with it !

Steven Blum doesn't do non-union dubbing.

Well lets just pray and hope. The voice so far are not that bad, I saw the Chad an parraket voice and is fine. Ryukia is also good althought a little bit mature to my knowledge but if compare to the Japanesse version the deepest in the voice is compensated with this change in the american voice which is ok to me. Althought I don;t like voice too much.
Like I said before let's just hope and pray.

Hope has necessity for evething doesn't it. Askand you are indeed correct we need to see more of the show maybe then we can speculate a cause and make agruement and turning into compromise or a deleterious topic. But for now the voices are ok.

Who would ever have figured that an American dub of Bleach would make everyone sound American? I mean who would have ever guess that?
I was figuring this whole time that everyone would sound Russian.

Yeah, for now I'd agree that the voices are alright.
After watching episode 4 though I slightly fear for Kisuke... hopefully it'll be alright though...
And as far as later on, they could screw up so much with the gotei 13...

majority of them are bad, especially the hollows. and of course they sound so american Pyramus! it's voiced by them.

Ocean Group VAs don't work with the company dubbing Bleach, unfortunately, meaning we won't get the awesome ideas of Scott McNeil (Kouga from Inuyasha) doing Renji (come on, you have to admit that would ****ing rock)
And whoever did Sesshoumaru doing Byakuya. Alas, alack
EDIT: Ya know, the hollows didn't necissarily sound "cool" in the Japanese version, either. I would figure even people who didn't speak Japanese could figure that out.

It's the ENGLISH DUB!! They're supposed to sound like that. Besides, if they spoke a different language, no one would understand them and if no one understands them, the ratings go down flat. It's all common sense, but it seems as if you don't have any.

even though it is an english dub, it could have been far worst than this. just look at the bad ones, like One Piece. major horror show!

I've only watched the first episode of the dub to see what the voices were like. They were much better than the low expectations I had set due to the read complaints of other people.
Maybe some of you should stop watching the dub if you dislike the voices that much?
It's like complaining about the pain you feel from running your hand under hot water, while refusing to remove the hand in question.

that's true, it you don't like it and detest it greatly, don't bother watching it. stick with the original.

the thing about Gin is he's like the SnoopDogg of bleach, in the sense that he's got that trademark voice of his that just so unique. What so unique about it? His tones and and calm cool sense he pushes while speaking. The problem with dubbing his voice from japanese to english will be that there will be less english syllables to pronounce, making his words less speedy and effective. Maybe i'm reading into it too much, or maybe I'm onto something :P

Please explain, since you seem to consider everyone sounding American in an English dub to be terrible, what would you rather they sound like? Aulstrian? Maybe Scottish? Or would you prefer they sounded like Japanese people trying to speak English?

I understand your feelings Gettles, but i think Pyramus is stressing that the voices just sound "too American". I think so too. The way they say japanese terms are just way too slang. I appreciate those other dubbed animes that say japanese names and terms in a normal way.

Personally, I think a lot of the terms (i.e. Zampakuto) would have been much better off being translated into some English equivalent.

chad's voice and the parakeet's voice are pretty good i thought. very well done. as for gin, and byaykuya and renji and all the captains pretty much idk, i just hope they don't mess up renji and byakuya's voice bc in my opinion, the way byakuya says bankai, flawless. i wouldn't mind hearing the guy who does inyuasha's brother's voice to do byakuya's. that would be pretty awesome

yup, i do agree, they did sound pretty good. although kon's voice didn't. it just didn't match him when he was in ichigo's body.

I agree with you on that! I'm familiar with this dubbing group, and I've seen a lot of their works. Ever since I started to watch the dub ver of Bleach, I've been trying to think which VA would be good as which character. Joshua Seth just happened to be my choice for Hitsugaya.
They have Derek Stephen Prince for Ishida, right? The idea of Ken from Digimon is just not working it for me as Ishida. Personally I think Steve Cannon (Kamui from X; Captain Sagara from Rurouni Kenshin) would make a great Ishida.
Lastly, at least for now, I think Johny Yong Bosch as Ichigo is perfect. Perfect pick!
