The crowd goes wild as Hayate enters the ring. Flower petals are thrown, as well as various undergarments.

Companies have approached him, offering him gold to promote their products, and women have approached him often, asking him to father their children.

It has all become quite a bit too much, and to be honest, he just wants to finish the finals and get back to the life of a normal 9th Division Shinigami.

Especially after that incident earlier....how did that happen? All of a sudden...it was as though he were devoured by the darkness in his heart...

Perhaps he could challenge the Vice Captain for his position...that might be interesting. Being a Vice Captain...that was what he had desired for quite some time...

He sighted his opponent...none other than his friend, Mitsuhiro Akazawa...well, this was a rather chance opportunity.

As I walk in, I realize no one's clapping for me. As well it should be. I'm not one for flashiness or decapitation or gore. I'm one for getting the job done as fast and efficiently as possible, with the most amount of pain for my enemy as possible. Although this fight, I may make an exception. Hayate has earned my respect, a thing few others have ever done.

An occult kidou spell by which a Shinigami binds the limbs of their adversary, rendering him or her unable to move.

Save: DC4 + user's (rei)
Special: The opponent is paralysed for the next three actions

#87 Iron Will:

Requires: None

You permanently gain a +d3 on all your Saving Throws (so a level 3 character with Iron Will would roll 2d6 + d3 for his/her saving throws).

#88 Greater Iron Will:

Requires: #87 Iron Will, Lv 5+

As Iron Will but bonus to saves +d6, not +d3 (so a level 7 character with Greater Iron Will would roll 3d6 + d6 for his/her saving throws).
#102 Spell Penetration:

Requires: Rei 3

Increase the Save DCs of all the spells you cast by 2.

#103 Greater Spell Penetration:

Requires: #102 Spell Penetration, Rei 4

As Spell Penetration but bonus to Save DCs is 4 not 2.

#108 Aural Preception

Requires: REI 4
Passive Technique

Due to the player's incredibly keen mastery of reiatsu, she is able to detect weak points in enemy defenses with the merest glance.

The player may use her REI/2 instead of her STR to calculate to-hit rolls.

#99 Quicken Spell : Improved Augment

Requires: Rei 3, Lv 8+

You can cast a spell as a free action. Casting a Quickened Spell costs double the RP a normal version of the spell would cost. You can use this tech only once per turn.

Hayate unsheathes his sword, and releases his shikai.

"Show your strength, Atsukaze-migoto!"

At the same time, Hayate redirects his reiatsu flow from speed to strength, causing his power to increase exponentially.

Then, with a burst of speed, Hayate dashes towards Akazawa, and swings his zanpaku-to directly at his neck.

As I watch Hayate's sword aim for my next, I instinctively duck. However, it appears this was exactly what he intended for me to do. He then launches a vicious series of attacks, inflicting tremendous damage upon my fairly frail body. It appears that I won't survive another attack like that. Guess there's one thing left to do, then.

Moving quickly, I release my Shikai to increase the amount of power I can put into my spells. Its presence is....calming. It reminds me of why I must fight. Because I am not the only one whose life is at stake every day.

Focusing my reiatsu, I augment my reiryoku to further increase my Kidou abilities. I do so quickly, so that I may be able to do more before Hayate begins his next, and presumably last, assault.

Now, I must do this. He needs to stop being able to attack me. Otherwise, I shall surely die. I have put as much kindling under the fire as I possibly can...now, will the fire be high enough? Burn bright enough? Stay hot enough? This is a pivotal moment in my life. At this point, I am truly at the end of my rope. Either this works, or I lose. I hope that I have not underestimated his resolve.

My reiatsu begins to ooze out of every pore in my body. It appears to be extremely black - the closest phrase to describe it would be "neon black". Now, it's time to throw the bones, and let them fall where they may.

Grinning, I realize that his cells are beginning to mutate into a strange form. They appear to be readily accepting the toxins that the blackness carries. He can't move, that's for sure. In addition, his Shikai seems to have gone back to its normal form. I'm sure I have greatly decreased his ability to fight...hopefully it was enough.

Now, I have to kill him before it stops affecting him. Changing my reiatsu into something much more pure, I gather it into balls at the tips of my fingers. They begin to expand as my reiatsu pours into them, making them larger and larger until they begin to join together. At this point, I release them in one attack - ten beams pouring out of my fingers and into Hayate's immobile form.

It appears to have hit him with full force. His body trembles as the beams lance into him, causing multiple wounds.

NOW IS THE TIME! I must get enough damage in to kill him! Anything else will not be tolerated!

Focusing all of my remaining reiatsu into my hands, I turn to face his motionless form. The bright light begins to gather again. The purest, most brilliant light in existence. It continues to gather strength for a while until it is extremely large. As it grows, I begin to mutter my incantation.

...now is the hour.

...now is the time.

...the end is upon us.

...victory is mine.

...as all must perish.

...as it must be.

...many have died.

...so shall my enemy.

Hayate falls to the ground, beaten for the first time in a long time...

Pain racks his body as he struggles to his feet, and strides over to Akazawa.

"Good job...my friend..."

Hayate pats him on the back as he walks to the infirmary, but pauses just as he is about to exit the ring.

Turning about slightly, he smiles at Akazawa with his boyish grin.

"By the way...you're so lucky..."

With that, he walks away to the infirmary.

The referee stops Hayate and brings him back to the ring. Grabbing both of them by the shoulders, he smiles big.

"Let's give it up for the two most powerful men in the Arena! Come on!

The crowd erupts into wild applause. You realize that this final battle was not a test of who was strongest, but merely a show of strength for the masses. Since the Shinigami had won, it was clear to them all now that Seireitei had the strongest men in the Realms in their employ...

"Of course, the winner obtains the larger prize. But, we all know that was the best fight the Arena has seen in quite a long time! Thank you all for the show!"

The referee gives Akazawa his special item, and his trophy full of his winnings. To Hayate, he gives another item, and a slightly smaller trophy full of his winnings. Then, he lifts both of your hands in the air, in celebration. The crowd's roars are utterly deafening.

(Akazawa gains 80 xp, 5/5 RPP, 400 gold, and the Champion's Raiment.)
(Hayate gains 40 xp, 200 gold, and the Challenger's Raiment.)

((Need someone to award RPP to Hayate as always. :P))
