Chapter One: Yes, We’re back!

“I can’t believe your turning 16 today, Mimi.” Katashi wiped away the tears from his cheek. “It seems as if only yesterday when you used to punch my shoulders…” He laughed. Katashi was looking at his daughter who has grown through out the years. She looked up into her father’s deep brown eyes. “I’m still your little girl… nothings changed.” She leaned against his shoulder.

They both watched the sun set from their backyard. The beautiful moment between a father and his only daughter was disturbed when strong wind currents surprised them from the east. Her long and soft brown hair flew helplessly against the wind as she buried her face against his shoulder. “Lets get inside… the winds seem angry.” She joked and together with her father they both went inside their Japansese inspired house. “Aren’t you going to invite your friends over? They know it’s your birthday today, right?” Katashi asked while preparing the plates in the table. Mimi nodded and continued to help her father arrange the table. Suddenly, the doorbell rings. Mimi immediately opens the door and to her surprise saw her best friend, Aime together with her current suitor, Makoto who gestured like a gentleman while extending his flowers to her. “For me lovely lady… happy birthday.” Right at that moment Mimi blushed and felt embarrassed in front of her best friend and father. “You two look cute.” Aime giggled, she then gave her gift to Mimi. “Come on inside Aime and Makoto. We’re about to eat.” Katashi welcomed the two visitors to their dining table and sat comfortably opposite each other. Mimi sat beside her best friend while Katashi sat next to Makoto who was staring at Mimi. Katashi felt as if Makoto’s eyes were undressing his daughter so he punched him in the head. “Hey! Stop fantasizing about my daughter. You’ll have to go through me before getting to her.” He said. Makoto withdrew his eyes from Mimi and helped himself to some rice and fried fish. “Stop that! We say a little prayer of thanks before we eat.” Katashi then led the prayer. “Dear god, thank you for this very special day in my daughter life, Mimi. We celebrate her 16th birthday today and we wish her all the best in life… Amen.” A loud sound of thunder surprised them all and a few minutes the lights went out. It started to rain immensely. “Great! Just great!” Katashi said sarcastically. “Mimi, I’m scared. I can’t see…” Aime has night sicknesses and can’t stand staying in the dark for long.
“Don’t worry, Mimi. I’ll go find a flashlight.” Mimi said. She then walked towards the kictchen drawer. She felt she hit something hard and stumbled on somebody. The lights then went on. She was on top of Makoto who looked as if he enjoyed their situation. Katashi looked at him violently as if ready to eat him alive. “Er… sorry.” Mimi got off Makoto. “So shall we… eat?” She said. Katashi calmed himself and nodded but he still kept his eyes on Makoto and gave him the sign “My eyes are watching you.” Makoto gulped. After a few minutes the phone rings.

“Hello!” Mimi answered the phone. “Happy birthday little sis. “Whats up?” It was Yuki, her brother. Mimi felt delighted to hear her brother’s voice.
“Sorry, Naomi and I won’t be making it tonight its raining heavily here in Hyugo Mei.”
“Too bad you guys can’t make it. I was really forward to see you guys after a long time.” Mimi sighed.
“No worries, we’ll be visiting by summer. Please say hi to dad for me. Happy birthday again, I got to go your little nephew is crying.”
“Ok. Please give my little nephew a kiss from me, oh! and say Hi to Naomi for me. Bye!” She puts down the phone and turns to Katashi.

“Who called?” He asked after clenching his throught with a glass full of soda.
“It was Yuki, they can’t make it tonight. He said that its also raining hard their in Hyugo Mei but they’ll be visiting this summer.” Mimi returns to the table and continued to finish her food. She looks at Makoto who winked at her. Mimi smiled, she then felt someone kick her feet. “Ahem…” Katashi coughed.

After dinner, Mimi was excited to open her gifts from Aime, Makoto and Katashi. First gift she opened was from Aime. It was a photo album with pictures from Mimi’s childhood to the present time. She saw a familiar face, a red headed boy sitting next to her. “Nori…” She became sad at the thought of her first love. Mimi closes her eyes and remembers the day when Nori and his mother left. They hugged for the very last time then parted ways. Waking up from that sudden flashback she thanks Aime for her gift. “Where’d you get these pictures?” She asked. “Your father was kind enough to give me some pictures from your childhood. He even used to say that you acted boyish back then.” Aime laughed. Now, it was turn for Makoto’s gift. He gave her a very huge teddy bear holding a sign which says “I’m yours forever!” Mimi thought that it was sweet of Makoto but Katashi gave her a piercing look. “Now open my gift.” He extended a small package and she immediately tore the wrappers. She opens a case and saw a beautiful sapphire pendulum. “It belonged to your grandmother when she turned 16.” Katashi was about to cry. “Look at the symbol, it means good luck and eternal happiness. My mother used to say that when it turns emerald something good will come your way and if it turns ruby, bad luck will happen. Why don’t you shake it and see what color will come.” Mimi was hesitant to shake the pendulum for she thought it’d turn ruby but Aime persuaded her. “Why don’t you give it a try… come on, please, do it for me.” Aime said.

Mimi rubs the pendulum but nothing happened. A few minutes later… it turned emerald. “Luck is at your side today…” Katashi said. For the second time the doorbell rings. It was Katashi who opened the door.
“Ah! Natsumi long time no see… what brings you here?” Katashi hugged a red haired woman about his age.
“I’m sorry to bother you at this time but because of the bad weather we decided not to go to the hotel where we were to stay for the night.” She wipes her face. Behind her, a young man about Mimi’s age followed. He looked very handsome and his green eyes were very dreamy.
“Is this Nori?! Your taller now and much more handsome… last time I saw you both was on our children’s wedding?” He remembers.
“Ah, yes! The day Naomi marries Yuki. By the way, we came back to Uchiko because son has to tape for a movie that is being shot here in Uchiko Town for a week at least.” Natsumi said.
“Hey! Since we’re family why don’t you stay here with us? Spending for an expensive hotel is such a waste. You know you’re always welcome here.” Katashi offered Nori and his mother to stay with them for a week.
“That’s a good idea. In that case we wouldn’t have to spend for a hotel.” She smiled.

Nori was observing the place; his face as if in disgust. He then notices a familiar face standing in front of him. It was Mimi. She was surprised to see him again after a very long time.

Amazing first chapter love it. Love the way you insert images into a 'simple' sentance. Great discription. Nice how you space out talking with description and paragraphs of talking on its own, was that intentional or unintentional?

It was a bit of both. In writing you need to present vivid images to the readers so that they will have an idea on how to picture out a certain scene or character in the story.

Btw im really really sorry for the delay of the part 2 of the 1st chapter my computer got virus last week and i just got my computer now. Anyway, I'll be posting part 2 of chapter 1 anytime this week and that is 100% sure. I have already written the first paragraph of part 2 and hopefully I can give justice to the story I have started :) thanks for your comments.
