Uniforms or no uniforms in school?

Keep in mind that it keeps things convenient and it heightens safety, but what do you all think?

school is suppose to be a time when your suppose to learn to grow and develope...does this help i dun think so ya i know its helps safety and what not, but its supressing a childs growth as a person, its shows ya you can express your self this way but we wont allow you to express yourself that way, but that just my beliefs, i dun agree with all boy and all girl schools either, thats just m3ssed up, "were gonna teach ya how to interact in the real world" my b3hind...ya lets put our child in a school and divide them from one gender...*shrugs*...ya this is normal, i currently know 7 guys whom all went to a all boy school, and they are so lost or messed up when it come to interacting with girls its beyond funny to the point its pathetic, i try to help them the best i can but they believe now that every time a girl even say "hi", that they have this "connection"...BLAH maybe i'll start this as a new topic...

i think that uniforms are unnessicary. like it was said prevoiusly school is for learning and occationally a good time but unifroms kil,l that. I mean it's better to be yourself then to be confind to the crappy atire your school gives you. People feel the need to be diverse then so be it! for alot of people wearing your own style defines who you are. so NO UNIFORMS I THINK THEY ARE JUST PLAIN BLAH!

we used to have uniforms at work and i olny worked at a old navy, this was meet with tonnes of rebelion, so needless to say this is no longer in effect...this is just an internal way of controlling peoples creativity...sure there will always be rules and guidelines of acceptance but really we make the rulez for which we live our lives, and if your always conforming to fit someones else's ideal, your really not living your life your living someone elses'

nothing wrong with uniforms as long as they are not itchy or super ugly and if they are partialy payed for by the school system then there should be no problem students don't need school to display fashion theres 16 hrs a day out of school and weekends for personal statements.

Even though my school doesn`t have School Uniforms I think it`s great.
The soul reason for that is I can`t say everyone at my school has as much money as me or some of my friends and I think poor them for not being able to get a new pair of jeans when they want to. A kid even in my class has gotten his jacket from his older brother who has gotten the jacket from his father.
I like the idea of kids not having to worry about what to wear every day to school .

10-11-2006, 07:27 PM
Well can`t those kids be able to wear their clothes they like the other 16 hours of the day as dragoneyes001 said? Would it really hurt those few "rich" kids to wear a school uniform for 6 hours of their time?

Edit: Not exactly rich but that has enough money to buy clothes whenever they like and so on.

School uniforms are a good idea and anyway if you don't like them after you leave and go to work you are prob gonna have to wear uniform, or if you go to sixth form/college you don't have to wear uniform. Wearing uniform in schools 'teaches' you how work will be when you are older.

But Some Kids Like To Worry And To Be Able To Pick Their Own Clothes.
They can pick their own expensive school uniform from other shops not the school uniform outlet.

At least with uniforms, dress code violations are less likely to occur. However, they offer parents the choice to "opt-out" their child from having to wear them. I suppose in a... err... uniformed society (not just talking about the clothes), common school attire would be appropriate. It seems to keep children in line, and less liking to take their eyes off of their school work.

I don't think wearing a uniform is that bad. Most children have to do whatever their parents ask them to do, this is just another item on the list. Children also need to learn to follow rules and regulations because as adults, their going to have to deal with them on a larger scale. It's easier to learn this in childhood.

I don't agree that a student can hide in their brand of clothing better than in a uniform. Try telling that to a kid who is doomed to wear hand-me-downs that don't fit well. Bullies live for that. =\

People always find ways to make their school uniforms more fashionable, despite the fact that they were (most likely) designed in 1964. The girls take up their hems and the boys still buy their shorts and trousers several sizes too big. I agree that it doesn't look as ridiculous as teeny tiny streetwear, but there is still a sense of... shall I say, "competition" in schools.

In my opinion, those schools without a uniform tend to have lower scores in their overall VCE results or whatever. Why? First of all, instead of focusing on their studies, they focus on their looks. What to wear, hairstyle, shoes, make up, whatever! They try their best to look good, to raise their reputation *or whatever* in the school. Most of the time, 'to raise their reputation' happens by buying branded clothing, and constantly buying more and more clothes.

So, basically... School isn't a freaking fashion show.

Now, look at those schools WITH uniform. Higher grades, less fuss about looks, main focus is study. Even if the student does care about his/her looks, all the student need to care about is his/her face and hair. Nothing much to care about. After the face and the hair is out of the way, studies come in.

It's tidier and more professional. Also takes the bias off one's casual dress (potato sack vs. golden singlet; wealth). No one has to worry about the uniform going out of fashion (except the rarely occurring changes in said uniform).

It's good out of the school, as crimes and offenses committed by students in the uniform can be directly narrowed to the school in which they attend, which increases the chance of apprehension/punishment. Same goes for victims of crimes, for purposes of identification in the event of death or inflictions that inhibit the victim's ability to identify themselves.

Overall, it's just the smarter choice.

If the school allows maffdy(wear what ever you like), the school will become a fashion war zone, who ever wears the best are cool, that is what happens.Uniform is much more easier, you don't have to choose what you have to wear everyday.

I personally like the idea of having uniforms. I don't have to spend so much time wondering what to wear. I hardly do that anyway. But it is nice to wear what you want on occasions. What I don't like is the stupid regulations to wearing the uniform. Socks must be above your ankle...who cares about your socks!
That's is all...:lol

Yup, thats one of the reasons why uniforms are handy.

However uniforms dont suck that much to me. But yeah it sucks :p
Uniformity in accordance to our school is commonly practiced in my country so its all good for me during high school and grade school. When it comes to college - uniform sucks ass big time.

My own attitude towards school-uniforms is neutral, since we don't have any over here... They have their good sides and bad sides, as every other thing in this world.

In Australia, we use them ,and it works well.
Except the schools, and the governments are getting stupid.

It's no longer about safety and neatness, they're banning anything but black shoelaces and such now. It's rediculous.
They will put you on detention for white shoelaces, no joke.

To be honest I couldn’t give a rat’s :cussing:. That’s just one less thing to worry about in the morning. Lets see…what am I going to wear today? Oh right, that was easy.

Uniforms should only be enforce if they serve some form of purpose or function (like to prevent singling out people based on what they wear). While I attended Dulwich Phucket, I remember being repeatedly told to put on my hat because it was hot outside. How does the hat change anything? I honestly don’t think it’s going to stop those beams of light from frying my brain.

I don't like school uniforms but in some sort they are pretty good.....sometimes students tend to overreact with their way of dressing and start mocking the students that don''t have the same financial resorts.....if u don't wear brand jeans or a t-shirt u are nothing....it doesn't matter if u are smarter, kinder, gentler ....u get tagged as a looser....i don't know much about others but this is how life goes in my country....

Even tho my school doesn't require uniform, I like the idea. In Taiwan (where I grew up) we wore uniforms. I must say, the uniforms made us look sophisticated, and also, none of the girls look like sluts. However, I don't care really, it's up to the schools themselves, but I do prefer uniform schools.

Yup, In our school we have occasians when we can wear what we like for a day.

Everytime that happens everyone dresses on their best clothes.

If that were to occur everyday it would be a constant fasion war.

Well I actually quite like my school uniform actually. It's convienient that I don't need to spend valuable time in the morning deciding what to wear for the day. It isn't exactly ugly either. *grins*

It's only annoying when people judge you by the uniform you wear - psh... generalisations. :whatevah:

umm uniforms don't work well at least that's what happened at my school. school tried it for a week and decided that it was better to allow us to choose what we wear. with uniforms it took our identity away and well most of the school rebeled against it. so basically i think it isn't very useful

Well, uniforms worked very well in Taiwan. Everyone looks sophisticated, and at least nobody looked like whores. Some people at my school look really scary...

...under American law, you can't have uniforms in public schools. At least, I don't think so. It goes against freedom of expression.

Anyways, I don't think they are a good idea. While a person is in school, they are constantly striving to make their own image - to become someone with their own niche in society. This is often expressed through the way a person dresses. You've got your emo kids, your metro-sexuals, your goths, your preps, your jocks, and all sorts of other groups. Now, is this a BAD thing? No. Why? Because life has groups. From day one, everyone is striving to be something. Striving to DISTINGUISH themselves from everyone else who also wants to be that something. By making a person wear a uniform, you're taking away one of their prime distinguishing characteristics. You can say that it forces people to distinguish themselves based on other systems, but that's a lie. You make everyone dress the same, you get a group of people who act alike. Because all you're doing is trying to quell individuality.

So yeah. Individuality is the thing that made the human race what it is today, so why bother trying to stop it?

And don't say any of this crap about "people who distinguish themselves based solely on their clothes are stupid". (I had this argument on another forum, that was their FAVORITE point to make) It's not the truth. A person should differe from everyone else in every way so as to make themselves more unique. If you're the same as fifteen other people, what's the likelihood that you'll get picked for a job if they want someone just like you? 1/16. But what happens if everyone's different? You're the only one.

Essentially, my point is this. Uniforms don't lead to "fashion wars". Uniforms let people do what they want. And this might be alright in dictatorial, strict countries, but not in a land based on FREEDOM.

As for you people in other countries...meh, do whatever the hell you want. :)

I like to point to Shinomori that I've went to an American school that requires uniform. However, most american schools don't require uniform.

It has been proven in Taiwan that uniforms have reduced the amount of gangs, and plus, I do think that there are fashion wars sometimes. Maybe not everyone is involved, but there are some people that are. Uniforms have their ups and downs, but I just prefer uniforms.

And America is a diverse country, but in places like Taiwan, Japan, and China, things are not so diverse, so yeah... there is no need to worry that much about diversity.

I wear a uniform to school (I live in Canada, I'm in high school), and I know for a fact that no one gives a damn about uniforms here. There are a few people, but no one really cares. It's not like we wear these things to dances or when we go out and such occasions.

A person should differe from everyone else in every way so as to make themselves more unique. If you're the same as fifteen other people, what's the likelihood that you'll get picked for a job if they want someone just like you? 1/16.
While what you wear may or may not have an impact on whether or not you get a job (a woman dressing like a slut when applying for receptionist job is the famous one), it's not like 16 people are going to walk into that interiew room with uniforms on and respond to questions like robots with all the same answers. Instead, each will wear something different, each will talk differently, and each will bring his/her personality into that room.

And don't say any of this crap about "people who distinguish themselves based solely on their clothes are stupid".
People have learned to express themselves regardless of the uniforms at my school. There ARE emo kids, skaters, jocks, bboys, academic try-hards, DnD geeks and all the rest at my school. My point is, even with the uniform, you can see the boundaries between the different social groups. For example, the skaters and emos wear much tighter dress pants than the others, and most of the time, the emo kids leave their shirtsleeves down, compares to the rest of us who have them rolled up to the elbow.

That said, I interact with practically everyone in my grade, regardless of social group, and I get to know them that way as well. But I digress; even the kids who do not talk to other people as much know who the others are, even while wearing the uniform.

To conclude, it's not in the what you wear, but how. As evidenced by fashion trends over the years, anything you wear, depening on how you wear it, can look fashionable. A uniform will not turn you into a robot, nor will it turn your school into a communist regime of social equality.

I had this argument on another forum, that was their FAVORITE point to make
It is a valid point. I know first-hand.

This is an age old debate...When I was younger, I always went in favour of the 'no uniform' policy but things have changed. I'm in favour of uniforms mainly because it's a lot simpler to wake up in the morning and know what you're wearing. Uniforms make us equal.

In educational institutes where there are no uniforms, students tend to wear clothes just for the sake of either making an impression or getting involved in a 'wadrobe run-off'. A lot of students are unfortunate to afford the best clothes and are often embarrassed by classmates or friends who dress up much better.

Uniforms were made to signify unity. Personally, I prefer uniforms because it's just a pain in the ass trying to find something good to wear every single day.

I honestly don't care, if I was in a school with no uniforms, I'd just wear the same thing thrice a week (if it's clean, of course)...couldn't care less...

There is no such law. There is no law that makes uniforms in US schools mandatory, but there is also no law that says schools CAN'T have uniforms. I know that pretty much all of the Dallas public schools have uniforms now.

I would vote for uniforms in school so I wouldnt have to look at people wearing their pants on their ankles or girls wearing shirts with their boobs hanging out. It would save my eyeballs on pain and it would make for ALOT less laundry to do during the week :lol

lol...yes... i do recomend wearing uniforms.in my country, uniform is a must and anywhere you go,the uniforms are the same.no change.every public school in the country are wearing the same uniform unless your're a prefect or something which require different uniform.special uniform various from school to school..unless the school prefer to use the basic one that the goverment stated.
as why i say uniform is good because it won't shows any of your status whether you're rich, poor or what so ever as the uniforms are all the same.no status discrimination will happen.
you also don't need to go cracking your head what to wear to school to look nice and spending money to buy various clothes.with uniform, money can be save with only buying a few sets of it.
lol, afterall,i think the uniform are nice in my country. :D

Uniforms. Because no one can judge what you wear, and considering the kids these days, you have to ALWAYS look good. Also, it takes time for you to pick what you need to wear, this this and that. You won't feel like the odd one out or like a loser because no one can judge you cause its uniform.

Uniform though has its bad points its mostly better to have uniforms in schools, therefore you won't have to spend money on new clothes every month or week, or day for that matter. And that money can go to better use.~ YEAY UNIFORMS!!!

Uniforms, well, one of the reasons why they made it coz it's easier to locate/see outsiders. Some, just to say that those students belong to that high class or normal school. It's also easier coz you'll won't have the pain of picking what clothes to wear. I hate people who wear super short mini-skirts or those stuff that show a little/more flesh.

It's better to have uniforms because you can also interact with your fellow schoolmates/classmates in crowded places *ish bad at remembering faces and names*. The only bad side is the heat, sometimes, uniforms have thick linens and stuff. I put holes on my skirt (below the knee length) because I'm clumsy at ironing my uniforms.

I didn't know people liked uniforms that much. I wear a uniform to school, as is compulsory in Singapore. I see them everywhere and they are so common. I guess (after reading everyone else's posts) that I'm lucky to be wearing a school uniform after all...? Lol. Oh well.

12-09-2006, 06:55 AM
i agree with rei. why pickout your clothes when they've already been picked for you. but there is the need to stand out in society so people might wear the uniform in a different way. theres a kid named paco in our class that always puts him belt on and tucks his shirt in his pants during class and snorts alot. being that he smells i can tel that he doesn't take ashower in the morning. so he wears his uniform in a different way. he unbottons his shirt. he leaves the belt un hooked. he wears spiked hair when it is clearly unacceptable. he gets detetion about every 2 days...so...but there is another way to show you individuality. shoes. shoes can express you without really breaking the rules. just as long as they come in blue black white and brown (at our school). but honestly what boy doesnt like the color black.

I'm against uniforms....it hinders a students creativity, and denies them any sense of self image. Why take away a students freedom to wear what they want? Uniforms in schools are forcing students to dress to what others say is right, which is ironically just a wrong statement to make. A student should have the right to wear what they want to wear (within certain boundaries of course).

Umm...the logic behind not enforcing school uniforms is so that students may "express" themselves better? Well, when I was going to school (and I'm sure it was the same for everyone else...), you NEEDED to wear certain brands inorder to look like you "fit in", which made for a lot of lookalikes walking up and down the halls. Not a one of them cared about expressing their inner-most thoughts and emotions, they just wanted to grab attention for looking cute. If everyone were in uniform however, it would give incentive for each individual to try more creative ways to "express" themselves. I.E., through academics, or standing out via sports. Or violence...

I don't think that the freedom of the students should be restricted and I also don't think that students should have all the freedom that they think that they should have. After all not every one knows that freedom is a privllage not a right, however, some schools go too far with the uniform.

ok, i think its fine, its not big deal to wear uniforms, i wore uniform my whole school life, and it was not such abig deal, actually you feel more comforatble wearing them, you feel that you are at school, am not against it, its ok to wear it
i guess uniforms teaches the students how to follow the rules and be accurate in things, ok, everybody is complaining about uniforms in school, how about other people who wore uniforms, not only student do that, people in the malaitry, factories, doctors wearing the lab coat, nurses, lots of people are wearing uniforms not only students

well, if you wanna express yourself you can do that, at home or when you go out, i know you spend most of the time in school but still , it does not mean that you cant express yousefl, ofcourse you can, you go out and at home, and then you can wear what you want, and how its a fashion disaster?? tell me whats your definition of fashion first and then according to that you can say whether its adisaster or not

you want from teens to think of what they are dressing for school?

I've had some of the same problems in school over the years ninjabot. Namebrands can burn in hell, cuz the average person can't afford to frequent most of them, i still know some people who get the majority of their clothes from wal-mart =X (I get alot of stuff from walmart, like jeans or wierd shirts, but the majority of my stuff comes from le mall)

And the popular clothes aren't made for every body type. Went into Hollister one time... the large shirt (in the girls) was like an extra small in regular sizes (Abercrombie carries normal sizes, I can wear stuff from there but I dont xD and then again, they only go up to a certain size, their stuff goes up to the slight chubby while hollister is for the more petite and less endowed in some cases xD)

I get alot of my clothes from Gap since my mom works there and can get a discount (doesnt work there often anymore so its only certain times we get this discount now) and discounts at banana republic and old navy, but alot of the stuff I get comes from the outlets, cuz even with discount that stuff is pricy =X I <3 banana republic but $$$$$

But theres another store in the mall thats in a nice price range with stuff in the style I like so its not a problem.

But if its not a prep brand then its uncool. Do they realize all they are doing is wearing fitted t-shirts with the brandname on them? I know that those kinds of shirts in retro-style print are trendy, but most of them aren't like that. Its retarded, they might as well wear anime t-shirts to school =P

well personally im not against uniforms, as mine is quite comfortable..trousers with a blue polo shirt....in the case of uniforms the less fortunate who can not afford clothes, think about how they wake up every morning, saying"o no i have to wear these old clothes again". how would u feel in that case. now the uniform gives these ppl a sense of security that they are equal, equal during the school day at least

Lol, I can never understand the difference between brand clothing and regular clothing. As long as it fits my style, then it's cool (which is just a plain shirt with no designs). I can understand why some ppl are against uniforms, but personally, I like uniforms, and I would go to a school with uniforms.

i actually like what my school does. what we have is a dress code, which is basically we have a list of things that we can wear (such as kakhi pants, different colored polos, black skirts or pants, etc.) and we choose from that. it makes it nice, because i don't have to worry about what i have to wear, and it sets apart my "school day" from my "normal day", if that makes any sense...

I don't think we should have a school uniform because it would take away even more of showing who we are. I think it is a way to express i our selves. My school don't have uniforms but they do have certain rules of what to wear.

Even though I don't like wearing uniform I have to admit that it decreases things, such as bullying. Plus, it means that you don't have to worry about what clothes you're going to wear the next day..and the next..and the next o_o It makes life simpler..too bad it's expensive -.-

In my old school, uniforms were much stricter. For instance, you HAD to wear the school's football socks or you wouldn't be allowed to play in class. And you HAD to wear the school sweater, and not any other (or it would be confiscated). And such things like that. And you HAD to wear black, leather shoes to school...

I'm glad that my school now isn't as strict. And the uniforms aren't that bad either. They're quite comfortable and don't look bad.

Frankly, uniform isn't a life or death situation. I say just let the school decide. For people who argue that uniform takes away individuality, people can wear whatever they want outside of school. They can burn their uniforms once they graduate. And I know there are other people like me who finds uniform to actually be a style.

The fact that people wear uniforms might actually be a good thing- people will focus more on your personality than loks.

Like if a big muscle-bound guy in a very punk shirt with skull chains sitss next to you in the exam, would you feel comfortable? Would you even talk to him?

But what if instead of that, he is just wearing a plain old uniform. You wont be as intimated right?

I guess my point is that it focus more on ones attitude than loks.

Plus it would make some people (like me) feel bad if they dont have the latest fashion or if their clothes are too plain compared to everyone else or people would label me as an emo cause I only have black clothes in my closet (even if Im not an emo) or if people see you wearing the same clothes evrytime because you are too poor to have a big range of clothes.

Hmm... Good things about uniforms

Teachers can catch any students who walk/run out of school with no permission. ID the student.

Shopkeepers can report to the school that some of their students have been shoplifting.

None of the sluts at school can express themselves.

And you don't have to worry about the clothes you're going to wear the next day.

All I can think of right now >.<

So yeah Uniforms aren't that bad but its just expensive.

I wore a uniform every single school day for 12 years.
It gets a bit annoying after a while. I like not having to wear uniform. its great to be able to wear what I want and not be told what to wear. I understand why its good to have, but once you've done it for as long as I have, you really appreciate not having to anymore.

I've always had to wear a uniform when going to school and after all those years, I can honestly say I hate them (so much i'd refuse to wear a suit). They can cost a lot of money, they seemed to get more expensive as time went on (as my first secondary school had us buy blazers, my second secondary school had us by School sweatshirts) and in the end, there was no point to them.

Well the sweatshirts weren't that bad, but uniforms are just the most uncomfortable thing you can force kids to wear. They can be good on school field trips to help identify students, but who wants to be stuck wearing one on a day out?

err... Couldn't students just bring a change of clothes with them? :toocool: There are many schools that mandate uniforms (most of Japan for example), and it does not stop students from ditching class.

I'd prefer to keep uniforms out of public schools, but I wouldn't mind uniforms in private schools (because you can choose not the fund them). There's just something annoying about being forced to pay for public education and then being forced to wear what they tell you.

A positive aspect of uniforms is reduction of materialism I suppose. I hated how many people judged others based on what they were wearing. The craze for the latest fashion was something that always disgusted me...

In my school, there are no uniforms. But there is a PE uniform. I think German schools don't have uniforms.
Bad about not having uniforms: People compare eachother by what they wear, like 'my pair of jeans are .....brand! They cost ......dollars!
Some people, especially girls wear inappropriate clothes, like extremely low neck spaghetti straps etc.
When we take school photographs, we don't look like a school.

Good about no uniforms: We can wear what we want, as long as it complies with school rules.
If we met someone for the first time, we might get a better idea of the kind of person they are by looking at the clothes they wear
We don't have to pay for two sets of uniforms (schools usually have the uniform and another PE uniform right?)
Instead of dress casual days, we get dress special days, which are more fun.

Can't think of anymore.

In my school there is no uniform what so ever but we can't wear like bad stuff, like gang colors or anything that signfies something bad. But I think schools shouldn't allow uniforms I mean it's a bit extreme that everyone has to wear what the school tells them to.It's like taking their personal rights away from them.

I mean what the can't choose what they can wear to school everyday I mean if I couldn't I probably would go mad from not wearing my clothes. That's just wrong

My school was a military academy, therefore uniforms were very strict. Honestly, wasn't that bad(probably the easiest thing to keep up with there), in fact I've learn more about keeping my clothes clean and doing laundry from wearing a uniform than anything else.

However, I think uniforms should stay out of public schools as that would probably increase taxes, and the uniforms would be cheaply made and most likely very uncomfortable.

My uniform was fine, since it actually needed to be tucked out. The pants were the classical slacks too. The only OTHER problem was.... It was ******* BROWN.

The local paper rates us as having the 2nd ugliest uniform in Singapore. I kid you not. Otherwise, Its pretty comfy. Though, the skirts are "Pants like" in the way it folds, and its pretty hard to get any panty-shots. Damn it all.

But yes, the uniform's long PANTS can cost more than your school shoes, at around $50 per pair. Goodness.

But otherwise, I have a lousy wardrobe, so I do appreciate uniforms to a point.

i would rather have uniforms for school because if we didnt have uniforms i would have to wake up at the crack of dawn and pick what outfit i should wear and just because everyone is wearing the same thing it dosent mean there all the same in personality wise.
i mean its true what they say about how "Your Style Your Personality" but just because every one in the school is wearing the same thing it dosent mean there all the same. if you want to approach someone because of how cool their clothes look thats just stupid because for all you know she/he could be following the trends nowadays.

so personally i think uniforms are better and that means longer sleep for me

I personally hate having a school uniform, though it may be due to the unisex rugby shirt one we have.

It makes it almost impossible to express yourself visually, considering our school has rules about head bands and bandannas as well all you can basically change is a hairdo.

As society changes I think uniforms are a better and better idea. Dress codes are a pain in the ass, no two ways about it. It's constantly being pushed, challenged, disobeyed. However a uniform is just a very, simple solution to some aggravations.

School administrators wouldn't have to check out every girls skirt because its pushing the limits on being short, they won't have to be on top of all the dudes who's pants are below their ass, (ok seriously, what bloody teachers job is it to tell someone to actually wear their pants) there won't be any gang colors.

If students would all use common sense, uniforms wouldn't be necessary. However, it ain't happening. Long as some people insist on pushing every minor limit just because they can, thats when you insert the iron law. Uniform...this way...now.

Honestly, you don't need clothes for your individuality, if someone absolutely does, the problem isn't going to be with the uniform.

Now the name tags we had to wear was a different story. Learn your effin students, jerks.

I've been wearing school uniforms for so many years and I'm used to it. Personally, I think school uniform is better because they make a 'good' student look neat and smart.

Good lord does everyone in here go to a school that requires a uniform?

I say no to uniforms. I don't really see the point. Let the students express themselves and wear what they'd like. I don't agree with clothing like trench coats though. That can get a little dangerous. But, I would never wear a uniform in school.

My school is required to wear one up till we become seniors, then it is 2 years of our own clothes. I personally don't care either way about uniforms, it saves me time on having to decide what to wear!

I actually would prefer uniforms in school (this being weird to most I say it to since I'm a girl) I think it's a pain to have to pick out what to wear either every night, or every morning while rushing to school. For me, I have to wake up at 5 am to catch my school bus at 6 am and I hate having to keep wasting time on what to wear. I'd rather just pick up a uniform that everyone else will be wearing and go. Plus, since everyone is wearing the same thing, there will be no "You're outfit sucks" "You have no style" etc. coming from anyone's mouth to anyone's ears. Everyone will wear the same things which also puts an idea that everyone is equal. I like that better than a school hiearchy.

Almost had to wear uniforms starting when I was in like, 5th grade. But the idea was eventually rejected.

BUT if it was uniforms like :

Personally I'm not against a uniform, I used to attend a school where uniforms were mandatory and I liked it mainly because you aren't stressing over wearing brand name clothing so you don't look poor. However, once you're over caring about what people say or think when they look at you, then it really doesn't matter to you. The only reason I wouldn't want a uniform is the fact that dress shirts, usually require hardcore ironing before you're able to wear them presentably.

I liked them, gives a sense of unity and belonging to the school. Plus my school was awesome so I was proud to wear it and show it off. It's nice not to have to find clothes to wear everyday, plus it is a more formal attire, so it puts me into a clear "study" mood, so I work harder, in casual clothes I'm too laid back and get very little done. Plus, I just kinda liked the uniform's athsetics, it was sexy. If I had an ugly uniform like some schools, I'd probably be more objectionable.

Meh, I don't think I'd like uniforms. I like being the guy that dresses well. Forcing me to wear cookie-cutter clothing would not make me very happy. On the other hand, certain uniforms can look pretty darn hot on the right person.

I personally wouldn't mind uniforms. I'm not sure if anyone posted this before, but wearing uniforms in school is not only a good way to represent your school, but also a good way to stop the insults to the kids who couldn't afford good clothes. So if some snotty rich kid or prep kid usually bragged on you for wearing some crappy Walmart clothes, they couldn't really say anything this time around. I'm all for the idea of uniforms in school.

...I hate wearing uniforms, but it's not so bad....I'd rather wear things that I have that are clean, rather than wearing something that's dirty because I forgot to wash some clothes the nigth before.
