Ugh, lame title >_>
Yes. Me. ^-^
I'm away for 'til Sunday evening, so I wanted to give you a little something before I make my disappear.
Today I’m bringing you an older one-shot. (That means only that I wrote it a month ago, for I have not written Bleach fics for that long.) It’s nothing special, but kinda cute. I especially love Yuzu’s and Karin’s conversation in the beginning. :3
Title: Walks in the night
Author: Chiera
Style: Oneshot (for a change)
Characters: Ichigo and Rukia, Yuzu and Karin
Special notifications: If you haven’t read manga chapter 191 and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read.
Walks in the night
Her phone beeped softly and immediately one eye cracked open. Distantly she felt Ichigo’s reiatsu flare up in a different room. Another hollow. Idly she wondered why the hollows always seemed to appear right after she had fallen asleep. Had to Karma or something. Sighing she got up and tiptoed through the dark room.
The door was closed with a soft clicking sound.
“You awake, Karin-chan”, a soft girl’s voice spoke out into the darkness.
“Yeah”, the other girl replied sleepily.
“She sneaked out again, That was like the third time this week.”
“So?”
“I was just wondering where Rukia-chan’s going in the middle of the night.”
“Isn’t is obvious”, Karin smirked. “Of course she’s going to Ichi’s room.”
“Karin-chan!” Yuzu’s voice was shocked.
“Well Ichi’s quite grown up already. And Rukia-chan’s a pretty girl. I can’t see why there would be nothing going on between them.”
“Should we go tell dad?”
“Nah. What the old beardy does not know, doesn’t hurt him.”
“You know, Karin-chan… They are kind of cute together.”
“I suppose so”, Karin muttered sleepily. “Now go to sleep, Yuzu. Don’t worry, she’ll be back here before morning.”
“Good night, Karin-chan.”
“Night, Yuzu.”
They walked along the empty streets, side by side. The night was clear and calm. Both of them were clad in the traditional way, in a black haori and a pair of black hakamas.
One of them was a young man, carrying a huge sword on his shoulder. His hair was bleached and a wild orange on its colour. By his side was walking a petite young woman. She had black hair and a serious expression on her pale face. Her hand was casually wrapped around the hilt of her sheathed sword.
“A piece of cake”, the guy mumbled.
“Yeah”, the woman agreed with a tiny nod.
“There’s been quite many of them lately, ain’t there?”
“Ho?” The woman quirked her eyebrow, smirking. “Are you getting tired?”
“Oh shut up. I was just pointing out a fact.”
“Hmmmh.”
“You think they’re up to something?”
“Who knows? I could check if anyone in Soul Society knows, if you’d like.”
“Meh.. No need for that. Let’s just wait and see.”
“All right.”
Silence fell again upon them as they continued to walk towards the Kurosaki residence.
Finally it was somewhat peaceful in Karakura town. Soul Society had allowed Rukia to return and they had not heard anything from over there for a long time. Things were finally somehow stopped on their track. It was a cosy feeling Ichigo had to admit that he liked. It felt a bit like the times before Byakuya and Renji had appeared to take Rukia back to Soul Society to be executed. Of course, they both had changed a bit since then, they both had got stronger and the bond between them had also got stronger since those careless days.
He glanced at the small woman from the corner of his eye.
The petite ness of the black-haired woman walking by his side never ceased to amaze him. He didn’t even know how old she was, not that it really mattered though, but yet she was just so tiny! She borrowed clothes from his little sister! That was already kind of pathetic. Of course, he was not going to let Rukia know his opinion. After all, he very well knew that those tiny fists of hers hurt like hell. Curious how strong she was in the end. Of course not nearly a captain-level shinigami, like the ones Ichigo had been fighting with before. But very well she was strong enough to be a seated officer – but she couldn’t, due Byakuya’s planning. It didn’t seem quite fair towards her to keep her on lower rank, incomparable to her true skill. Though Ichigo understood Byakuya’s reasons. He didn’t want to put Rukia in any unnecessary danger either. He was not sure had he ever told it to her face to face, but he had made a promise to protect her. At least to himself he had vowed that. At the time when Rukia had been taken back to the Soul society, he had acted out of guilt – after all it was his fault Rukia had been condemned to death. But once he had learned to understand her more, his reasoning had changed. He wanted to protect her because she was an important friend of his. He had grown so much, got so much stronger just to be able to save her. Because of Rukia, Ichigo’s whole life had changed, up to that point that he could not imagine what would it be like, had he never met the mysterious shinigami.
“You’re quiet”, she said as they stopped in front of the Kurosaki residence. “Is something wrong?”
Ichigo turned to her. She was studying him, a slight frown on her face.
“No, everything’s alright. I was just… thinking.”
“About what?”
His usual scowl softened – not much, but she had learned to notice the differences.
About you…
“Nothing big. Let’s go in.”
“Yeah.”
One more reason to honour Rukia. She never asked unnecessary questions.
The door closed with a silent click. She crept soundlessly over the wooden floor and sat down on her bed. Smiling she watched the sleeping forms of Ichigo’s sisters. She sat down on the edge of her bed, wrapped her hands around her legs and rested her chin on her knees. Although she didn’t really like missing sleeping, she still loved the nightly walks. True, the only reasons they were up was to hunt down hollows, but still. She had always enjoyed night time. Walking in the quiet darkness beside him was her favourite moment of the day. They did not need any words to fill in the quiet atmosphere around them, they enjoyed each other’s silence. They both felt content just walking side by side, enjoying the night. Rukia sighed softly to herself and lay down, pulling the blankets over her small body. How peculiar was that that only under the roof of this mortal household she felt that she had finally found the place where she belonged.
