Chapter 1 Division Creation Fan-Fic

[Vace]

“Why curse the Darkness when one can simply light a candle.”

Above all of Soul Society, in the depths of the sacred meeting towers of the old age, Yammato stood patiently looking out over all of Seretei. For a man in his position he seemed a little less upset than one would expect.

He stood contemplating the fait of Seretei and the chances that Soul Society would stand after an opposing attack from an unknown foe.

For days now Yammato had stood atop the high tower, and for days he had said not a word. A perfect seclusion, in which one can only contemplate the failures, and the tragedies that had occurred.

His silence suddenly became broken with the appearance of a figure that emerged from shadow. He was wearing ninja garb but had on a white belt to symbolize his rank under Yammato’s ranks rather than a standard division.

The man sat there quite still and without much word or hesitation till Yammato threw his hand inside his coat and pulled out two scrolls of paper.

The man walked up to Yammato and took them, opening them up and fumbling through the pages. He seemed to be skimming and he stopped abruptly on the last page.

-Ninja Intel: Emergany order 56… Are you sure about this?

Yammato looked up at the sky and then down toward Seretei before clearing his throat.

-Yammato: Son I have made many orders in my day, and been very particular on the directions to which I was implying. Do you really want to find out what happened to the last lad who had questioned my judgment?

The ninja backed up and whipped off some sweat that had gathered on his brow. He bowed and then in an instant vanished as if into thin air.

Yammato looked back up at the sky and watched the moon reveal itself from behind a set of clouds.

-Yammato: So it has come to this has it, trusting our faith in them. Heretics, coming back to save us all. I guess even after thousands of years life still seems to have its certain ironies, don’t you think Byakuya?

From the staircase leading to the top of the building Byakuya emerged. He wasn’t wearing his normal uniform and was only wearing his shinigami garb. He had a lot of bandages covering his arm and one on his face.

-Byakuya: If its is an order than I will follow it to the utmost degree.
-Yammato: Humph so like you, never to question. Well I guess we will see. God seeing their faces again will surly be a sight, to bad your old Senpai isn’t coming.

-Byakuya: Why not?

-Yammato: I don’t know, ever since he had a kid he has seemed to be rather distant. Oh well no matter tomorrows captains meeting should prove to be interesting.


The next day was really cloudy with the sun shinning through the little gaps that it could. Yammato stood in front of the captains who had lined themselves up in the usual fashion. None of them directly faced him, and none of them spoke.

Yammato was speaking to his vice captain who had seemed to be holding a whistle. He stood there in the conversation till Yammato signaled toward him and he blew the whistle aloud.

The sound of the whistle echoed through the pillars where they stood, until a door on one of the pillars opened and from it walked six men. The men were all dressed in different variants of clothing.

The first man went by the name of Kyōraku Samanoske. He was a tall slender man who was wearing regular shinigami robes except for the fact that they were not the traditional black color and was a dark bluish. His hat dangled over his eyes while a jug of Sake on his right leg swung around from the sash around his waste to which it was tied wildly. He seemed to be walking in a rather carefree manor, or he was just plastered from drinking.

The second man was a little shorter and slimmer than Samanoske. He wore small rectangular glasses and had his hair pulled back. His robes were that of an intricate design, and were white and blue in color. He was holding a rather small book in his hands. He was flipping through the pages and reading as he walked. His name was Calrisian, and he was known to be a great Kido master of times past.

The third man was clean shaven and looked to be a little tense. He wore circular sun glasses and held his Zanpaku-to in his hand as he walked. He wore a rather large trench coat and was smoking a cigarette. As he approached Yammato he threw it to the ground and stomped it out before continuing on. He was Nanba Hiroshi, and he was known to not only be one hell of a fighter, but a rather rude loner figure.

The fourth man named Aruharu looked to be a lot wiser and aged. He had his hair slicked back and wore spectacles as well, but his were more normal. He wore a light blue coat and had around his neck a compass which swayed as he walked. His Zanpaku-to could be seen coming out form under his coat, but the rest remained hidden from sight. He seemed to be holding a folder, and his white gloves seemed to not fit into the entire outfit.

The fifth man was named Kaliadez, and he seemed a lot like the previous man. His hair was darker and more grungier. He wasn’t clean shaven and he wore an older style of Samurai armor. If anything one could compare him to the antihero samurai from stories of old by his direct appearance. He had his Zanpaku-to thrown over his shoulder, and he whistled as he walked along.

The final man to appear was radically different than them all. A lot younger than the rest by all means, he seemed out of place. His name was Hakumei Seidou, and he had shorter hair hidden beneath a golf cap of sorts. His attire looked more earthlike. His black golf vest over a white dress shirt, and dress pants. His Sandals were black and he was holding a string attached to his Zanpaku-to which he had slung over his back.

The men assembled beside Yammato and stood there briefly. As they did no word where said and there was nothing more than an awkward silence.

Yammato reviewed the captains before looking toward Soifon who was sweating and seemed to be troubled.

-Yammato: Soifon, what seems to be the matter?

-Soifon: Ill tell you what the matter is, it is him!

Soifon pointed her finger directly at Seidou who grew a rather large and menacing grin across his face.

-Seidou: Who me?

-Soifon: Don’t play like that you basturd, you know exactly what I am implying.

-Seidou: Hummm you seem to have me confused with someone else, you see I am just a simple man by nature, honest.

-Soifon: Basturd not even fessing up toward your sins.

-Seidou: On the contrary I already confessed toward my sins, the difference is I just don’t give a damn.

Soifon looked at him with an angry look of surprise before drawing her Zanpaku-to.

-Soifon: Sting all enemies to death Suzumebachi!

She jumped out of formation and darted toward the smiling Seidou who still remained motionless. Her hand reared back ready to strike and then lunged forward toward his face before being abruptly halted by another hand grabbing her arm. The jagged end of Suzumebachi cut across the face of a new man who had just arrived on the scene. As he stood there holding her arm back a butterfly crest appeared on his face and grew.
-Soifon: V…Vace…..!?

Vace threw her back and she fell over still looking up at him stunned with disbelief.

-Yammato: Late as usual, and nothing seems to change, even your dramatic interpretation of things

-Vace: You know me old man, I can never seem to let go of old habits.

-Yammato: How many years have I told you to address me by my rank and full name?

-Vace: And how many years will it take to figure out that it just isn’t my style, like arriving on time.

-Taiki: Sigh and does your style influence such a need to have a rather rude tone with the leader of the Gotei 13?

-Kaliadez: Now now my friend is it necessary to enforce your own opinion and behavior in such a matter?

-Taiki: I just feel that such un-pleasantries are unnecessary at a time like this, after all he is a man of great prestige.

-Hiroshi: Is that why you went over the mans wishes and betrayed all of Seretei?

-Taiki: If I were you I would hold my tongue.

-Hiroshi: And why is that old man?

-Taiki: Because I was killing Menos when you were still learning how to suck milk from your mothers bosoms, that is why.

-Hiroshi: Why yo-

-Samanoske: Guys, guys please settle down can’t we just all get along?

-Hiroshi: That sounds a bit cliché.

-Samanoske: All I’m saying is the only thing that we need to do is be happy and friendly. Love and peace man.

-Hiroshi: Ok seriously cut the-

-Yammato: ENOUGH!

Yammato’s yell rang loudly and echoed through all of Seretei and his reitsu rose with furry.

-Yammato: Quiet down and listen to what I have to say before I show all of you to a nice clean burial. I’m not hear to waste time, my time is extremely valuable. So if you would please listen to me before I get angry, and show you why after one thousands years no one has yet to kick my god damn ass.

The newer captains got really quiet and Soifon picked herself up and walked back to her spot. She didn’t look forward though, and kept her eyes glued onto Vace.

-Yammato: After all these years Aizen has tricked us and hit us hard. Seretei is in a mess and in shambles, and for the life of me I will die before it falls from such a disruption. People are untrusting of others, and fingers are always being pointed. Without central 46 the whole damn place is in a mess, thus I have decided to do what has never in all of history even been mentioned. I am declaring martial law of order 20.

-Sajin: But Taicho that means-

-Yammato: Yes that the final seven squads are being built and set into place, and the military will have complete control of operations in Seretei.

-Sajin: Then they are-

-Yammato: The new captains.

Shocked looks spread across not only the faces of the captains but also the men called upon by Yammato. Byakuya stood there emotionless turning toward Seidou and then looking back.

-Sajin: But taicho?!

-Yammato: I do not care what you may think, this is not a matter of opinion it is what is to come. These men were thrust from soul society for doing daring things. Yes things that went against multiple laws on many degrees, but none the less they all fought and gave up everything for soul society at one point. Rule’s are not everything, and I have seen this with those Ryoka. Thus I have called them back to see if they would accept this big task I have set aside for them.

-Calrisian: You mean burden don’t you?

-Sajin: How dare you!

-Calrisian: What do you mean how dare I? How dare you!

-Hiroshi: You cast us out of Seretei.
- Taiki: Took away our lives, and left us with nothing.

- Seidou: Stripped us of power.

-Samanoske: Stripped us of clothing.

Silence fell and the other turned and looked at Samanoske.

-Samanoske: What? They did take our captains jackets.

-Hiroshi: It wasn’t the main point man.

-Samanoske: It was for me, that jacket picked up chicks.

-Taiki: Sigh, some things never do change.

-Kaldiez: The whole point that we are trying to get across is how can you take the one thing we have left, and expect us to so easily come back and just defend your sorry asses.

-Samanoske: Unless there are a lot of really nice female ones.

All the ex captains looked at Samanoske again with the same glare they had worn previously.

-Samanoske: What?

-Yammato: I know that we have done so much toward you in the past. There is so many things to which we can only say sorry for now.

-Taiki: Sorry is just another word.

-Yammato: All I am saying is that with all of my heart will you please accept my offer and help us.

Yammato surprised everyone as he turned toward the bunch and dropped to his knees in a bow. The others looked at him stunned and then grew grins on their faces.

-Calrisian: Ironic, those who were quick to cast us out, beg for us back.

-Taiki: Well life is never without certain Irony.

-Hiroshi: How pathetic, now they beg and grovel like dogs. I don’t see how you expect any of us t-

At those words Vace stepped forward and walked over to stand in front of Yammato with his hands in his pockets. As he did so Seidou followed and stood behind him.
-Vace: Get up old man, there is no need to beg.

Yammato looked up at Vace with a smile and rose. He patted him on the shoulder and signaled to his Vice Captain who opened up a large wooden box. Inside were captains jackets which were all neatly folded in order from fourteen to twenty. Yammato pulled out the fifteenth one and handed it to Vace while Chojiro pulled out the nineteenth jacket and handed it to Seidou.

-Hiroshi: What the hell?

-Calrisian: Why are you guys helping them, what they did to you. You are going to forget about everything that quickly?

-Vace: The past is the past, that doesn’t change. Getting all worked up over something as trivial as that is even worse than what they did to us. We all chose our path and knew the consequences, yet we still followed them now didn’t we. So all you have to ask yourself is what else is there for you out there. I’ll tell you what boys, I know I don’t have anything else to fight for or live for, so I might as well have a reason to die for. I figure it is a damned good reason, and to that extent I’m willing to set aside my personal anger.

-Seidou: Seriously why cry over spilt milk, just clean that shit up. Stop the poor me’s thing and do something with your lives for Christ sake.

The other captains looked at the two as they dawned their captains jackets on. None of them seemed to budge until Kaldiez and Samanoske stepped forward and also accepted jackets. Yammato nodded in approval of this, and the remaining captains fell into line too. One after the other dawned their jacket, until the box was empty and they all stood examining them, as if they had been reunited with an old friend.

The few of them were silent and then Yammato walked away and the meeting had ended at this the old captains and the new looked toward each other with glaring eyes before finally shedding past resentment and started conversing. Byakuya seemed uninterested and in an instant disappeared in a flash step.

Sajin walked over and started a conversation with Kaldiez and Taiki. Hiroshi picked a conversation with Hitsigoya. Mayuri walked over toward Calrisian and sparked a conversation with his old subordinate over studies in the field of Quincy. Zakari walked away bored with Yachiro on his back swinging around madly as if wanting attention. Samanoske had walked over to Shunsui and Jushiro.

Unahana looked over at Vace and Seidou with a smile for what they had done before the two started to walk off. They didn’t seem to content on conversing with the rest. SOifon watched as Vace and Seidou disappeared behind the corner before following. Unahana walked over to Sajin and Kaldiez and started to converse with them.

-Sajin: I don’t like those two, something about them just throws me off.

-Unahana: I wouldn’t worry about the one, the other not to sure about.

-Kaldiez: I wouldn’t worry about them, they just aren’t very group oriented.

-Sajin: Is it true though, about that man. He really went through all that pain.

-Kaldiez: No on really knows, there are just rumors from back in my time, Man I feel old.

-Unahana: Old, you’re my age, how is that suppose to make me feel.

-Kaldiez: You, that old. Well I must admit your still quite the attractive grandmother now aren’t you.

-Unahana: Well that’s something you don’t hear everyday, flirting with someone my age.

-Sajin: So you two?.....

The two looked at each other and started laughing hysterically as Sajin just stood there confused, and really lost.

-Samanoske: So bro tell me, how the hell is it going. You ever get with that one chick, nuka nuka, or fuka fuka.

-Shunsui: Nanoa chan?

-Samanoske: Yea, what I said, Noodle Chan.

-Ukitake: Well I see you two are still talking away like you usually do, nothing really important at all.

-Shunsui: Well better than you neglecting to talk to your first VC ever. Your just ignoring the guy for Christ sake, and he is still standing like four feet away from you and you haven’t said a word.

-Ukitake: At least I have the guts to tell a girl that I am attracted to her.

-Samanoske: Ouch low blow, nice, but low blow.

-Shunsui: I do too have the balls.

-Samanoske: Then why don’t you use them?

-Shunsui: I am waiting for her to come to me, and fall into my arms and say, “Oh Taicho, take me away.”

-Ukitake: I don’t know what is more pathetic, you in general, or your mindset on women.

The captains bickered on and one while elsewhere Vace and Seidou walked down a path with no real idea where they were.

-Seidou: God damn man you think after all these damn years they would make this place less confusing. Maybe like a map, or those prong like sticks.

-Vace: Prong like sticks?

-Seidou: You know the ones that find water and stuff.

-Vace: Ok first, how is that going to help us in this situation? And second my Zanpaku-to is water based, if we needed to find water we could use it.

-Seidou: Well we don’t need to find water now do we.

-Vace: You’re the one who implied that we needed one to find our way, so why don’t you just shut the hell up.

At that moment Vace and Seidou stopped walking.

-Seidou: Ok we have let you follow us this far, but honestly did you expect us not to notice with such a poor job hiding your Reitsu.

-Vace: Then again hiding anything was never your strongpoint was it, Soifon.

Soifon appeared on the top of a roof to the right of the two men. She jumped down and walked toward them, her Zanpaku-to was still released and on her hand.

-Soifon; Vace….Why are you back…….Why did you leave?

-Vace: You still don’t know the answer to those questions? Do you really need to ask?

-Soifon: Why wont you ever answer me god damnit. The past is dead forget about it, tell me now what is going on.

-Vace: The past is dead huh. Then tell me why your so wrapped into figuring out what exactly happened in the past. Why are you the one asking me and not dropping it. Why do you wear that necklace under your Kimono of the purple butterfly that I gave you. And why did you change the cat symbol of the hōmonka to a butterfly symbol.

Soifon looked at him in shock as he touched the place where she had grazed his cheek.

-Vace: What you don’t think I would remember such things as that. The Homonka, a symbol usually representing a very strong sense of feeling one has. When two of these feelings are matched up into a single strike they can kill someone. That is how your Zanpaku-to runs, on emotion. You use to have the cat symbol because you fought for Yoruichi, So why the sudden change?

Soifon grew quiet and looked toward the ground and then she released the Zanpaku-to back into sealed form. As she did the butterfly marking on Vace’s face disappeared.

-Soifon: Why do you just seem to always neglect to tell me anything?

-Vace: And why do you never seem to understand the things I am trying to tell you?

With that Vace disappeared as if into air in a Flash step.

Seidou looked over toward Soifon who was on the ground and almost in tear and walked over to her placing his hand on top of her head.

-Soifon: Any other time and I would kill you…

-Seidou: Any other time ehy? You know he still cares about you.

-Soifon: Don’t say things to which you are not certain.

-Seidou: Certain now, well the one thing I am certain about is that damn ring you use to wear, is still around his neck.

Soifon looked up at Seidou in disbelief as he looked out toward where Vace had vanished to and then followed in a slow walking pace throwing his hand over his shoulder and waving toward her as he walked away.

-Seidou: Take care now taicho.

As Seidou rounded the corner Soifon fell into silence, and then tears.

“When Playing with the Kings Queen, watch your Ace Jack.”

The leaves fell, and the sun shown lightly through the cloudy sky. Many had gathered in the center of what was typically known as the commoners square.

There many young Shinigami stood in anticipation, for prior that week many had attended and tested for a chance to become a Vice Captain ranked Shingami.

Near the edge of the square a small group of Shingami stood around talking amongst one another in great anticipation.

The first and on the far wall, was a young man with bluish green hair. He laid against the wall with his hands crosses and was cracking his neck while looking at the others. He went under the name of Seinaru Tonzura.

Next to him sitting with her back to a tree was lovely young lady with light silver flowing hair. She had a smile on her face and wrote vigorously into a journal. She was known for her beauty and grace. Many only knew her as a the 4th seat in the ninth devision, but her friends all know her by the name Thelindra.

Across from them stood two others. One was a girl who was in a conversation with another man. They seemed entwined into the conversation and very excited. The female was known as Matsuo Rhen , and the man was known as Akimoto Shawn.

As the two conversed and the other two sat around seeming to be waiting three more Shinigami came forward.

The first was a young shining young man who was known for his skills in the fourth squad. His name was Krice, and many people enjoyed his company for his kindness, and his ability to seemingly accept everyone for who they are.

The two female companions who traveled with him were Hibana Tsurara and Rin Amane. There personalities were very similar which didn’t during any one point of their time in Seretei make it awkward for them to be really close friends.

As they walked up the other acknowledged them and allowed them into the conversation.

-Amane: What’s all the hype about?

-Shawn: What do you mean, hype? Only the fact that today is the announcement of the Vice Captain positions.

-Amane: Is that so?

-Shawn: Ah so cold.

-Tonzura: And you really believe you made it?

-Shawn: Well….I don’t know….waht make you so certain that I didn’t?

-Tonzura: I never implied that, only that I am confident that I made it.

-Tsurara: And how can you be so certain.

-Tonzura: Simple, I have skills.

-Krice: Yea that much is certain.

-Rhen: Aww, Krice whats on your mind.

-Krice: Well I knida bombed the whole swordfighting section.

-Thelindra: What do you mean by bombed.

-Tonzura: As in he didn’t use his Zanpaku-to. He was told to release it, and use it multiple times, but he never did.

-Shawn: Yea but he certainly blew us all away in the other sections, even you at Kido.

-Tonzura: What do you mean in Kido?

-Tsurara: From what the o ther guys have been saying you only used thunder bassed Kido, and tried to show off with that instead of using other forms of it.

-Tonzura: I wasn’t showing off, mearly demonstraiting my abilities.

-Krice: It’s ok really, we all know you made it. Compared to Rukia you’re the most eligible candidate for Vice Captain position in all of Seretei. I mean all of you did so well and I just can’t release my Zanpaku-to since…

-Thelindra: Krice don’t beat yourself up, it isn’t your fault.

-Krice: Yea…It is…If only I could control it.

-Shawn: Well have you ever tried to since?

-Amane: Did you really just ask that?

-Shawn: Well ye-

-Amane: The question was rhetorical.

-Shawn: I knew that!

-Tsurara: And yet you answered to it.

-Shawn: Ah still so cold.

-Amane: Remember he sent Kejone to the medical wing.

-Tonzura: The dude had it coming, yet still that was some sick shit. What does your Zanpaku-to do again?

-Krice: It-

Thelindra noticed the panic distressed look on Krice’s face and looked toward Rhen who also nodded.

-Rhen: It sends people who are overconfident like you flying toward the fourth division.

-Shawn: That’s an awkward ability.

-Amane: Did you-

-Shawn: Kidding, kidding.

-Tsurara: Well I too am int-

-Telindra: What has everyone heard about the new captains?

Tsurara looked a but taken back by Thelindras bursting sentence. Krice looked toward her and mouthed a thank you toward her. As she did Tsurara noted it and realized the how uncomfortable it was making him feel and dropped it.

-Tonzura: Not much really, just what the other captains have been saying, and what Krice and Amane found in the archives.

-Thelindra: And what exactly did you find.

-Tonzura: You two can go first.

-Amane: Well let’s start from the beginning. The fourteenth division captain named Samanoske has quite a bit of info on him. He is the cousin of current the current eighth division captain.

-Rhen: Really, wow so he could be ancient like he is.

-Amane: No, he isn’t that old. He listed his accomplishments, but everything on his past life is not in the archives, it looks like it was never written in. All I know is he is very accomplished at hand to hand combat, and that his Zanpaku-to is lightning based. Other than that all it lists are some of his feats on earth, and in Seretei. Supposedly he use to be involved with another captain, but it has no real record of what happened, or who it was.

-Thelindra: So a broken man?

-Tonzura: Not exactly, all the talk around Seretei is that he is just as bad of a womanizer as his cousin is. Also that he isn’t the most dedicated worker.

-Tsurara: So basically a typical male, on a more indecent level?

-Rhen: It can’t be that bad can it, I mean Shunsui isn’t all that bad.

-Tonzura: You just say that because you think he is cute.

-Rhen: I never said that, or denied that.

-Tonzura: He isn’t as bad though, the other thing they always mention is the tragedy, yet that is all they say.

-Thelindra: The Tragedy?

-Tonzura: That is all they said, after that they didn’t say anything else. Shall we go on Krice?

-Krice: The Sixteenth captain is known only as Calrissian. He is a master of all the known Kido there is and has said to have spanned into the forbidden arts as well.

-Shawn: Sounds like you know a lot about him.

-Krice: The man is one of my icon’s. He is literally one of the founders of Kido as we know it today, a relative genius in the field.

-Tonzura: Yet he is a perfectionist and is said to press his subordinates harder than most captains in the history of Seretei. Yet what else they said was that he was expelled for going beyond the regulations of his mandate.

-Rhen: So he did bad things?

-Krice: Not really? He was just pressing to master what had never been mastered, and inevitably pressed others to uncomfortable limits to master them.

-Thelindra: Did he hurt or use it on other?

-Krice: That I can not say?....

-Tonzura: I haven’t heard anything on that line either.

-Amane: The next one is hard not to find. He is mentioned in so many texts through all of the history of Seretei. A prodigy since day one of his carrier as a Shinigami. Captain of the seventeenth division, Kurokawa Taiki. He is known as a genius and his tactics and strategies for different things have seemed to always worked.

-Shawn: And what happened?

-Tonzura: He went to far in his studies. He was also a scientist and he sadly just pressed the line. What he tried to do turned out to become the late Bounto project, a means to engineer Shinigami and save lives. Sadly to complete the process a Bounto inevitably had to have souls. He quit the project and it is said that his assistant finished it. Even though he wasn’t a mainstream science wiz he was highly motivated toward his work.

-Amane: He isn’t a hardcore scientist like others have been in the past, but he headlighted the project.

-Tsurara: If he head lighted it, who was directly responsible?

-Tonzura: Besides the female, that takes us to our next captain.

-Krice: Nanba Hiroshi. He is a science wiz and a very close and personal friend of Kurotsuchi Mayuri. He even use to be his Vice Captain. He was the lead scientist besides Rantao. Although it didn’t go into detail he helped in many of the scientific breakthroughs used by all of Seretei today.

-Tonzura: The other captains directly stated that he could be very sinicle, yet also very kind hearted. Other than that not much else was said.

-Amane: That’s interesting.

-Tonzura: The twentieth division captain was a real interesting one.

-Thelindra: Why is that?

-Tsurara: Because it looks like his texts have been altered. All the books seemed to be missing on him, so I was left to journals. Each journal seems to have been rewritten to fit around certain events. All that is known is he use to have a family, other than that not much is said. He found his wife when he crossed over from his life on earth, but never found his son.

-Tonzura: Even more the other captains seemed to seem really saddened by discussing what they knew about him. They seemed to know him well.

-Shawn: Why did he leave being in Gotei 13.

-Tsurara: He did it out of his own will, he wanted to leave.

-Tonzura: And it seems that Yammato was rather upset over the whole ordeal.

-Thelindra: Wow that is really sad.

-Rhen: Wow I hope that he is ok, you know. I mean must have been a really bad reason.

The other looked at each other for a second before Amane looked up toward Tonzura with a really quizzical look.

-Amane: What of the other two captains?

-Tonzura: What about them?

-Shawn: Yea you never really mentioned them.

-Rhen: You mean the really young ones?

-Shawn: They aren’t young, they just look younger.

-Krice: That is the thing we don’t know.

-Thelindra: You couldn’t find the record in the archives?

-Tsurara: It wasn’t that we couldn’t find them, their were none to be found. Vace and Hakumei Seidou. All that is known is that Vace was the Captain of the second squad before Soifon, and that Seidou was captain of the third squad before Gin.

-Rhen: Anything else?

-Krice: Nothing at all. Whatever happened it seems big. They seem to not be excluded but erased from Seretei’s records. As in the pages are ripped out. It is hard to see, but If you look closely you can see specific remains of pages in books that would have probably mentioned them.

-Tsurara: I have never seen anything like it before, its almost as if Seretei was afraid to mention them.

-Shawn: That is re-

At that moment a bell was rung and from the noise and commotion Komamura Sajin walked forward. He cleared his throat and then looked outward amongst all the participants and Shinigami who had eagerly been waiting.

-Sajin: Everyone stand in attention and prepare for the decision of the captains.

The other Shinigami scurried about into a formation in front of Komamura as he stood in front of them all with his head held up high. Behind him stood Byakuya who stood looking around contently.

-Sajin: When I call your name you will come forward and take from the guard standing behind me a Lieutenants badge. For those of you who did not make the cut you can always try for a seated position in the newer squads.

Komamura looked back to Byakuya who remained motionless and silent. He then faced front an looked back out toward everyone.

-Sajin: Rin Amane will you please step up my dear and take your badge.

Amane stepped up from the back as everyone clapped and a few cheers rang out. She tried to hold it in, but her face grew into a huge smile as she walked forward to accept the badge. She took it and examined it contently before taking her place behind Komamura.

-Sajin: Seinaru Tonzura please step forward for the sixteenth division patch.

From the back Tonzura stepped up with little more than a grin. He walked up defiantly and took the patch in one hand and held it over his head with great pride. Sajin saw this and chuckled while Byakuya shook his head.

-Sajin: Hibana Tsurara please come and accept the seventeenth division seal.

Tsurara stepped forward with her hands in her face to try and hide her excitement. She took up the patch and stood next to Amane with a big smile on her face.

-Sajin: Akimoto Shawn you’re the Vice Captain of the eighteenth squad.

The clapping was seeming to die down as more people were picked. Shawn walked up and received his badge with glee, but didn’t relish in the fact that he had one as to not piss anyone else off who had not made the cut.

-Sajin: Thelindra you have received the right to hold the nineteenth division Vice Captain position.

Thelindra walked to receive her badge beat red in embarrassment. As she took a stand next to the others she looked over with a huge smile over the fact that the other Vice Captains were close to her.
-Sajin: The final Vice Captain is Matsuo Rhen .

At this announcement there was no cheers just a lot of chatter and large commotion. She stepped up and took her badge and then her and the others looked toward Krice. Krice was looking to the ground and seemed to be extremely upset.

-Shinigami 1: What about the fifteenth division Vice Captain?

-Shinigami 2: Yea that was never announced!

-Sajin: That division has yet to decide on a Vice Captain, it is due to complications.

To those words the crowed let up in what seemed to be a loud ruckus of complaints and anger toward not making the cut. Krice stood in the background looking down before he slipped out of sight and no one saw him.

Sajin walked over toward the Vice Captains as they stood there looking at their badges. He shook their hands and then he looked to his left as he saw from a distance he saw Seidou, Samanoske, and Taiki stepped forward.

-Seidou: I think we can take our own Vice Captains from here on out. Oh and Byakuya Vace was looking for ya in the courtyard of fountains.

Byakuya didn’t say anything and in an instant was gone.

The other Vice captains followed Sajin as he walked away and Tsurara, Thelindra, and Amane stayed behind with their captains.

-Samanoske: Well look at all the babes we have here.

-Tsurara: Wow this is a bit uncomfortable.

-Samanoske: Well If saying something such as your beautiful was ever a bad thing.

-Tsurara: I don’t need your compliments.

-Samanoske: It wasn’t a compliment, it was only the truth.

-Thelindra: Aww that was nice.

-Tsurara: What it was is a pathetic attempt to flirt with me.

-Samanoske: Now now aren’t we the cold one.

-Taiki: Why don’t you lay off of my Vice Captain, can’t you see your making her uncomfortable.
-Samanoske: I guess the truth is something people don’t like to hear around here, then again Taiki you never were good at telling it now were you.

-Taiki: That was a long time ago Samano.

-Samanoske: No one has called me Samano in a long time.

-Taiki: Im telling you Samanoske, don’t bother my Vice Captain.

-Samanoske: Well if I didn’t know any better that sounded like a threat.

-Taiki: It was, so don’t make me fulfill it.

-Samanoske: Humm or you will what.

At those words Taiki flung himself toward Samanoske, who caught his fist with his hand.

-Samanoske: My, my you seem to have gotten rusty now haven’t you.

-Taiki: How about as rusty as that old broad who left you out to dry.

At those words a flare of anger pulsed through Samanoske, and his Reitsu exploded into a massive rage.

Taiki flung himself backward and out of his grip and landed drawing his sword into his right hand. The two looked each other dead in the eye’s and then they charged toward each other, each in a blaze of Reitsu.

Samanoske’s fists were drawn and Taiki’s blade shimmered and the two seemed ready to connect when as if out of nowhere the figure of Kaliadez appeared between him with a gleaming white Zanpaku-to drawn and a barrier in the shape of a blue diamond formed around him. As the two captains attacks collided with the barrier it made a large explosion.

Dust and debris spattered and shot in all directions as the immediate area was covered and consumed in it. The Vice captains and Seidou stood on the edge of the area of battle looking on contently. The Vice Captains stood amazed, while Seidou stood there with a smile.

The Smoke began to clear and Samanoske and Taiki could be seen kneeling on the far corners of where they had began their feud.

Kaliadez stood still inside of his blue diamond barrier holding his Zanpaku-to firmly before releasing the barrier, and sealing his sword back into its original state.

-Kaliadez: That is enough, what kind of example are you making here. Honestly the bickering of two captains when Yammato has placed enough faith in bringing you back. Make an example of yourselves honestly.

Samanoske noted and got up and brushed off his clothing before taking a swig from his Sake bottle. He walked over to Amane and placed his hand around her.

-Samanoske: Until next time.

He waved and walked away with Amane still under his arm. She didn’t seem to be in the most comfortable position, yet wasn’t really pressing the grip he had around her.

Taiki looked over toward Kaliadez with a stern look across hi face before motioning toward Tsurara who caught the signal and followed her captain in the opposite direction.

Seidou chucled and then walked over toward Kaliadez with Thelindra.

-Seidou: Woo looks like you haven’t gotten rusty at all. Holding back two captains with your Shield Technique. Have to say I am quite impressed.

-Kaliadez: I was lucky…They were really mad, if either of them had pushed more I might have had to released to Bankai to stop them.

-Seidou: That close to cracking ehy?

Kaliadez pointed toward the Sheath of the Zanpaku-to in the sealed form which had two distinctive cracks on either side.

-Kaliadez: Like I said, it was a close call. I am just happy that I was able to stop the attack’s.

-Seidou: Well I hope you have enough to stop Byakuya.

-Kaliadez: Why?

-Seidou: Because he wants to pick Rukia, and we all know how Byakuya feels about that.

-Thelindra: Hasn’t she been excluded from being chosen on his consent and wishes.

-Seidou: Quite the bright one you are, but no.

-Kaliadez: You see he asked of it as a favor and in compliance the other Captains agreed respectfully, yet it is not forbidden completely. Thus she can still be picked, it just would be unwise.

-Thelindra: And if she is?

-Kaliadez: Then I hope that soul can withstand the wrath of Byakuya. Or is it can Byakuya survive the power of Vace.

-Seidou: I guess we will just have to wait and see.

-Thelindra: This Vace, what is it about him that has all the captains worked up about?

-Kaliadez: That man… just is very dangerous…powerful and passionate… there is nothing stronger than the fires of passion…I do feel for him…after the deaths.

-Seidou: Yea and to top it off that woman of his never really did understand, yet she still tries.

-Kaliadez: Wind of the north, Vace. My god how many years ago was that?

-Seidou: To many, just to many.


Vace sat patiently on the edge of the southernmost fountain.

The Garden of Fountains was a beautiful place filled with lots of the most spectacular sights. The fountains shot water in all sorts of directions and different patterns, and at night illuminated with bright vibrant colors.

Vace sat at the end reading a journal when out of nowhere Byakuya appeared in front of him with his Zanpaku-to drawn and pointed toward him.

-Vace: So soon?

-Byakuya: What did you expect?

-Vace: Nothing less from an ex pupil of mine, so how we going to do this?

-Byakuya: If you won’t change your mind, then I will just have to change it with force.

-Vace: And if that doesn’t work.

-Byakuya: Then you will just have to die amongst the fountains you love so much.

-Vace: Don’t hold back Byakuya, or you will die regretting you ever had.

[Vace]

Just one thing I don't like about Taiki in this chapter...

You made him act too rashly. He wouldn't of made the first move at Samanosake, he's a tactitian, no useless fighting interests him. Just a word of advice for future battles that might happen. It takes a lot to anger him to make him draw first.

Besides, she's the sort who will try to win her captain's trust, but wouldn't trust him straight away, so she wouldn't want to give away too much...

“ Hard learned Lessons”

As Byakuya stood there pointing his Zanpaku-to toward Vace, the wind started to pick up. The clouds in the sky started to join and a bleak grey covered all of Seretei.

Vace drew his weapon and leaned forward placing his Zanpaku-to in hand behind his back poised as he did the two halted into a sudden silence.

This silence however was broken by the sound of some feet hitting the tops of a building near by. The sound echoed slightly as the form’s of Ukitake, Shunsui and Nanoa-chan appeared above looking out over the field.

-Shunsui: Oh looks like the festivities have yet to start.

-Ukitake: I wouldn’t really consider this a joyous event, do you think it is wrong to be a spectator for this.

-Shunsui: Why not? Besides Soifon seems to be watching intently.

Ukitake pealed his eyes from Shunsui and looked across the courtyard toward the roof adjacent to the one which he was situated.

The silence was one again broken by a sound to the left of them. As they looked over they saw the almost enamored faces of Rhen and Thelindra.

-Shunsui: And what would two fine ladies as yourself be doing in a place like this, unattended by your Captains.

-Thelindra: We were not unattended we were brought here with the permission of a captain.

-Rhen: Your cousin arranged it.

-Ukitake: Samano?

-Samanoske: Now why would two beautiful ladies like them lie?

-Shunsui: I thought I smelled a clever ploy to get a nice share of action.

-Samanoske: Hum and may I remind you that I am not here on business of that sort. Besides my Vice captain more than hastily took over for me. And you know Rhen’s taicho, always wanting to do things on his own time. Seidou was going to tag along but he said that other matters seemed to need his attention. He asked for me personally to bring the two along to see this.

-Ukitake: I see, so what are your predictions?
-Samanoske: Byakuya wastes him in the first round.

-Shunsui: I think that Vace will win.

-Ukitake: Really?

-Samanoske: And what makes you so sure?

-Shunsui: He was before your time, and known under one name, and from one tale told through Seretei for longer than even I can remember.

-Ukitake: You mean-

-Samnaoske: So that is the Demon.

-Rhen: The Demon?

-Nanao: Taicho! Can you be so sure?!

-Shunsui: Nanoa-chan remember, I am older than I look. I remember everything all to well.

-Thelindra: Why is he called the Demon?

-Nanao: You mean that you never heard?!

-Shunsui: Nanoa-chan don’t be so cruel.

-Ukitake: He was once the Arbiter, will of the 46 chambers. Every new term an Arbiter is elected from candidates either from the Royal Guard or Gotei 13. The Arbiter listens and follows the direct will of the 46 chambers themselves.

-Shunsui: They are usually highly qualified and serve a term of five years. Sadly few make it that long, because the tasks set aside for them usually consume them.

-Ukitake: That man served two full terms, before he dismissed himself.

-Samanoske: And why did the guy do such a thing if he had all of that prestige going for him.

-Shunsui: That is well something of a mystery, all that is known is that his entire division after the incident was slaughtered and replaced.

-Rhen: An entire division!?

They all looked down again toward Vace and Byakuya who still stood. The wind had substanualy picked up in intensity and was now blowing leaves toward them as they stood in silence.

Then as if lightning had struck the two were gone in a flash and reappeared with their Zanpaku-to’s clashed together.

There arms shook can trembled as each on pressed forward trying to throw the other off.

Vace flipped backward off of Byakuya’s Zanpaku-to and landed hunched over extending his arm outward before rushing forward. He caught Vaces Zanpaku-to with his own and they started to exchange strikes.

Byakuya flung Vace to the side and threw his blade forward in an attempt to strike him but in a flash Vace was gone and appeared behind Byakuya digging his foot into his side and sending him into a cartwheel to recover from falling over. Byakuya kneeled over and turned his head toward Vace who stood there just looking at him.

-Vace: If this is all you have to bring then your more useless than I thought?

Byakuya’s eyes gleamed with great anger and he got up facing toward Vace and lifted up his blade.

-Byakuya: Chire Senbonzakura.

At those words the blade seemed to meld away and became gleaming pink petals. The petals circled Byakuya and then in a constant stream shot toward him.

Vace saw the attack coming and doge it using a flash step. As he reappeared the petals in a stream traveled toward his new location before he once again vanished into a flash step.

-Vace: Do you really think that with this caliber of an attack you can touch me?

Byakuya grinned and separated the single stream into two streams and crossed them. As he did the speed increased and so did Vace’s flash steps. As each step ended a new one began until Vace flung his Zanpaku-to upward striking a line of the petals and sent them up into the air. They fluttered before falling down toward the ground like the petals of a blooming cheery blossom.

-Vace: Well then I tire of these games, let us make this a little more interesting.

Vace pointed his Zanpakuto toward the ground and released it. As he did it started to shine a brilliant blue and it looked as if a blue cloth was still attached to his arm and wrapped around his hand.

-Vace: Sattou Kjata
As he said that phrase the blade appeared sticking from the ground. The blade was skinny and dark grey as was the handle. There were not other identification marks on the blade, and there was no guard on the blade at all. The cloth that was tied to his arm was attached to the end of the handle through a little slit.

He flipped up the blade using the cloth and caught the handle. He flung the blade forward toward Byakuya who stood there with his own Zanpaku-to petals flowing in a circular pattern around him.

-Byakuya: And you plan to defeat me with a little blade like that?

-Vace: This blade is more than enough to kill you five times over.

Byakuya pointed the handle of his Zanpaku-to toward Vace and the petals flung themselves forward. They swirled in a spiral motion toward him and as they approached he smirked before disappearing into a flash step.

Then before Byakuya could catch where he had moved to Vace was in his face and flung his sword downward. Byakuya caught the blow with the handle of his own blade. The glance caught him completely by surprise and his stance broke. Byakuya shuffled his feat trying to support the force of the blow before he pushed Vace off.

Vace flipped back ward and flung his Zanpaku-to over his shoulder only grabbing the cloth. As he did he spun it at a quick speed and blocked the petals which had zoomed toward his back.

He jumped back almost tripping over his own feet and then prepared to charge again, yet this time Byakuya was ready and sent pedals in from the sides, the front and behind. They all seemed to come at Vace who simply smirked and raised his sword above his head.

-Vace: Fukai Hyouketsu!

At those words a magnificent sky blue beam blade shot from the blade and strait at Byakuya. As it did Vace jumped into the air.

It whizzed by the ground and left a trail of ice as it traveled closer toward him. It collided with the petals Byakuya had sent head first toward Vace and unhampered them all to an Icy halt. As the blade of ice grew nearer Byakuya summoned with a few remaining petals a shield which he barly got up in enough time to stop the attack.

Vace soured upward looking down with a bright gleaming smile.

This only made Byakuya send petals upward from where they were originally going to meet. Vace saw this coming and looked downward point his blade.

-Vace: Fukai Hyouketsu!

He once again shouted and sent the ice beam down onto the upcoming petals freezing them all into one giant ice spire.

Vace landed on the ground and looked toward Byakuya with a look of dissatisfaction.

-Vace: Tell me is this what it takes to be a Captain.

-Byakuya: Do you really want to know?

The ice spire and the other frozen petals burst from their icy prison and traveled to reform the blade of Byakuya’s sword. He pointed the blade toward the ground and looked toward Vace who was now cracking his neck and yawning as a way to entice Byakuya.

-Byakuya: Lesson one, Bankai.

Byakuya dropped the sword slowly into the ground where it was consumed into a rifting portal. As Vace watched his eyes opened in horror as giant swords rose form the ground and then scattered into millions of tiny little petals.

-Byakuya: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.

Vace looked on as the petals just floated ever so gently toward the ground before traveling back upward again.

-Byakuya: The first step to being a captain is to master Bankai, like this.

At that instant the petals launched forward in a mass crowd toward vace. He looked on in horror and pointed his blade toward them.

-Vace: Fukai Hyouketsu!

The Ice blade shot forward and only made a small dent before completely shattering into millions of pieces, not even halting the oncoming onslaught one bit. The huge collection of the pedal blades hit Vace head on.

Vace Shot backward as he was dragged backward from the force. The huge line of the pink blades bent upward and sent him into the air, before separating and collecting themselves back behind Byakuya as Vace fell to the ground. He leaned over breathing heavily and hacking up blood before looking toward Byakuya and smiling.

-Vace: Ha that is it you didn’t even cut me, the only thing that got to me was the force of the attack.

Byakuya realized that Vace had no cut wounds or insicions of any kind into his skin from the barrage of the thousands of blade that hit him face on. His cloths were also barley tattered.

-Vace: Mastered Bankai my ass, if this is all you have to show me, then you are surly going to die.

At that moments the petals formed the same huge stream of pink petals that it had before and once again rushed toward Vace. Vace was still kneeled over and smiling contently watching it come forward before it separated just in front of him into three streams. The one hit him dead on and sent him backwards as it did before while the other two circled around him and joined right behind him hitting him in the back. The two streams of petals pushed into Vace as he screamed out in horror from the pressure of the two streams before falling onto his knee’s again as Byakuya called off the attack.

-Byakuya: Step two, never underestimate your opponent.

Vace now spitting up more blood than he had the previous attack looked up with a bigger smile.

-Vace: Attack from two sides and yet still no cut’s.

Byakuya once again noticed that Vace other than spitting up the blood was relatively untouched by the jagged edges of the blades.

-Vace: No time now for step three, lets do this.

Vace ran forward as Byakuya launched the petals into multiple smaller streams toward him. He kept un running in an erractic pattern toward him as thee streams grew closer to him. Before jumping into the air and swinging his sword above his head with a great smile.

-Vace: It ends here!

-Byakuya: Your right.

As Vace said those words he noticed the streams had encircled him in all direction, and before he could find a way to slip out of it they all converged onto him into one instant covering where he had been in nothing more than a huge onslaught of sharp pink blades.

There was no other sound made than those of the petals colliding one another into the pile.

The others looked upon the sight from the rooftop in horror as Soifon watched with tear stricken eyes at what had happened.

Byakuya stood there without any emotion or facial expression, before dismissing the attack and separating the petals to reveal nothing was left but a little cut and tattered piece of Shinigami robes. The Piece of robes feel to the ground slowly traveling by the dispersed petals before finally reaching a resting point in one of the fountains.

-Byakuya: Rule three, never disobey any order given to you.

The others just watched as Byakuya took off his scarf and let it go into the breeze as a symbol to signify his sorrow over the event, yet his expression didn’t change one bit.

-Thelindra: Oh my god… he actually killed him!

-Rhen: Of all the Captains I have ever known I never thought that Byakuya Taicho could so easily do something like this without much care.

-Thelindra: Up until the end the only part he stood a chance was when Byakuya was in his Shikai form.

-Vace: I don’t know, I thought the only chance he had was when I offered the choice of walking away.

The captains and the girls turned to see Vace standing on the roof next to them. He had hidden his reitsu better than anyone had predicted he could and had the entire time been standing next to them.

His cloths were not harmed except for the torn sleeve of his Shinigami robed which now lay in the fountain. He had one cut across his face which bled slowly and one across his knuckle which seemed to be hardly bleeding at all. Slung over his shoulder was his Zanpaku-to with the cloth still streaming wildly in the wind.

He stood there and looked at them for a second smiling.

-Vace: What? You expected me to be dead from just that.

Byakuya looked up at Vace with no change in expression as he jumped down from the roof and walked forward to face him.

-Vace: Byakuya like I said I am taking your sister into my division. You don’t have to worry she will be under my protection. And if anything does happen don’t worry because ill get a little chocked up, honest there could be tears.

-Byakuya: And like I said you will die before you ever bring her under your wing.

-Vace: Oh really then shall I teach you something? How about how to be a captain, lesson one, Master Bankai.

Vace pointed his Zanpaku-to toward the ground holding it by the cloth only.

-Vace: Bankai, Kanega Kjata

As he said that word the cloth seemed to detach from the handle and the sword fell into the ground. It feel into an almost identical rift as Byakuya’s had before shooting a brilliant blue light up into the sky. The clouds darkened and then the sound of thunder shot out across all of Seretei before from the clouds fell a single two sided sword. The blades were thicker versions of the original blade in which Vace had carried and the handle was made up of the white cloth which had dangled from the blade in the Shikai form.

Vace caught the blade by the handle and swung it around him. As he did an onslaught of rain came form the sky and covered the area.

The rain was heavy and thick. It made it hard to see anything.

Byakuya used the petals which were now being pushed toward the ground to make a huge cover over his head to block the rain. He looked out through what he could see to only realize that everything engulfed in the heavy rain was almost imposible to make out.

He then noticed another surprising development that the water level had substantially risen in the last few second. So much infact that it was almost up at his knees. Realizing that the area he was standing in was flooding he jumped upward dispersing the barrier above him and landed directly on the rooftops across from the others. He reformed the cover above him as the rain continued.

It stayed like this for almost another twenty seconds before it stopped entirely to reveal that the entire Garden of Fountains was now submerged, and that the water had risen to the height of the lowest point on the roof.

Byakuya dispersed the barrier of petals from above his head and looked out toward Vace who was standing in the middle of the now water covered area. He was smiling and cracking his neck as he usually did.

-Byakuya: Is that all? You just flood the area?

-Vace: Now, now Byakuya let me explain. But to do so we must move onto lesson two, never underestimate your opponent. You see my Zanpaku-to here, you and almost everyone else in Seretei have been under the simple impression that it is a Water and Ice based weapon, when infact that is not the case. Even though I can freeze the water into the ice blades that you saw earlier, doesn’t mean that my Zanpaku-to is ice based. What I am getting at is my Zanpaku-to is a Water and Sonic based weapon.

Byakuya looked toward him with a quizzical stare.

-Byakuya: Water and Sonic?

-Vace: You see I can freeze the water because I control every aspect that makes up water. That is right, I have control right down to the molecular structure of water itself, thus I can freeze it, boil it and, add enough pressure and condense it to a point where it is stronger than even the toughest steals.

Byakuyas eyes opened wide as he finished the statement.

-Vace: Oh yes Byakuya, that means that My Bankai is not the flooding, but in reality all the water in the surrounding area. Like I said Byakuya, you can’t beat me. Your Bankai makes it almost impossible to count the petals by largely increasing the number of blades you wields, yet mine increases the already great control over water that I had in Shiaki.

Byakuya still looked at him, and his eyes showed signs of disbelief.

-Vace: What no faith, you should already have realized it, why you didn’t cut me. Each time you struck me with the petals I condensed the water vapor around me and combined it with my own Reitsu to make a temporary barrier. It wasn’t strong but enough to push the petals away from me and avoid harm.

Byakuya recalled the moments to which the attack had hit Vace and sent him back nly to cough up minor amounts of blood.

-Vace: You see Byakuya it was apparent from the get go, you could never win. Your Bankai makes it hard to predict the movements of all the petals while my Bankai, makes it impossible to escape the movements of the water I control.

At that second two streams of water broke through the roof and wrapped around Byakuyas legs holding him tightly into place.

Byakuya tried to move and break free but found that the water was to condensed to move.

The petals came swirling toward the water and hit the streams wildly trying to break through them to free Byakuya but they had no real effect.

Then as if out of nowhere they dispersed and Byakuya fell back to the roof.

-Vace: So do you give up, or must this conflict drag itself out even more.

The petals collected behind Vace and shot toward him. As they grew closer Vace only smiled as a hug wall of water rose from behind him and blocked the petals from advancing. The top of the wall then sank over the top of the petals and submerged them trapping them and leaving Byakuya unable to use them.

-Vace: Like I said this is useless you no long have any of your pathetic Bankai left.

Byakuya extended his arm to reveals some petals flow from the sleeves of his shirt and form to pink blades. He then jumped forward toward Vace who easily flash steeped away leaving him to land on the water.
Byakuya braced himself only to find himself landing on top of the water as anyone would a hard surface. He stood up and looked over to see Vace standing to the side with a grin on his face.

Then in an instant the water to which he was standing on top of parted and Byakuya fell downward and hit the ground landing on his back.

He looked up toward the opening and saw Vace peering down at him.

-Vace: As suiting grave for you isn’t it. The cold depths of this water, they so easily match the cold depths of your heart.

The Water from the top layer of the part fell into the other wall and from there started to fto come down on the space where Byakuya was and as it did he braced himself.

He held that position and opened his eyes to find that the water was gone the sun was now shining through the clouds to where he was laying.

He sat up and looked over to Vace whose Zanpaku-to was glowing and changing back to sealed form. He sheathed the blade and started to walk toward Byakuya. He stopped short and simply looked down toward him.

-Vace: Shall I finish the lesson for you?

Vace looked over toward the open door leading into the Garden of fountains and snapped his fingers.

-Vace: There is no use hiding anymore boy, why don’t you come on out.

From behind the door Krice revealed himself and walked slowly over toward the two.

-Vace: Did you have something to ask me?

-Krice: I just…

-Vace: Out with it boy.

-Krice: Wanted to know why you didn’t pick me…

Krice looked down in embarrassment and waited for Vace to yell at him for such a remark and only felt Vaces hand pat his head.

-Vace: See Byakuya that is what I am talking about, learning, something you seem to have neglected to do these past few years.

Krice looked up at Vace in surprise to his reaction.
-Krice: But Taicho I just addressed you as if you should have picked me? Why are you no-

-Vace: Mad? It was a lesson. Why I didn’t pick you was because you have no self confidence. I was testing to see if you had any, and also to see if you were willing enough to shed your usual personal shell and actually stand up for yourself. Your right I should have picked you, yet I left my choice undecided. I wanted to see if you would actually bring yourself up to doing it, much like releasing your Zanpaku-to.

-Byakuya: And of Rukia?

-Vace: Lesson three Byakuya, never disobey your heart for the rules. You always seem to want to live by the rules and laws, and neglect your feelings and basic instinct, that is why you can never beat me, that is why you will never beat me.

-Krice: So am I to be your Vice Captain?

-Vace: Will you release your Zanpaku-to?

-Krice: I…

Vace turned and started to walk away. Krice and Byakuya looked at him as he seemingly just traveled toward the door as if nothing happened.

-Vace: The day you fight me with your released Zanpaku-to, is the day I will accept you. Until then see you around.

He waved at them as they walked away.

The few who had gathered on the roof watched Vace walk away and as he did Thelindra turned to Shunsui.

-Thelindra: Taicho, I have been meaning to ask how did his division die?

-Shunsui: He slaughtered them.

The others looked at him with stares of disbelief and horror.

-Shunsui: Each one right down to his own brother.
