(I didn't see a thread on this, so forgive me if there is one.)

Most of us have seen the anime, but have you read the manga? It is a completely different story from the anime, but still awesome nonetheless.

Mini-summary by me:
The manga storyline is the same as the anime's up until the Greed Arc (the story is told, however, in a different order.) The chapters at where the Greed Arc ends and where the story starts to change is around chapter 30-31. I won't tell you much and spoil it, but things such as the homunculi and the philosopher's stone are completely different in this version of FMA. Also, new characters appear!

ehh? why am i the first to respond to this? you people are crazy, Hagaren is an awesome manga. Though lacking the beautiful animation of its anime counterpart, it's great manga with a superb story. Fav characters, Ling and Havoc.

Oh and I heard that there will an ova or a new arc to the anime about Ed and Al traveling to Ling's country. Not sure though.

It is true that it is moving slow ... we also only get one chapter a month :(
But it is a good story so I don't mind waiting so long and that it isn't moving faster (because that would mean it wound end sooner XD)

well, about your first question, why don't you just read ch 69? there's a link to it on my last post, right before yours.

and about you second question, you only need to see it once and know that it's either another homunculus or one of those things from beyond the big gates

I was so happy to see Raven die xD I wonder what the Fuhrer will do (more specifically, what will he do to Armstrong?) when he finds out, though. And what will happen to Sloth? Will Ed and the others try to stop Sloth from digging his hole or will they just let him be? xD

As for why pride backed off, well he obviously didn't realise before he sent his 'shadow's into the tunnel that riza hawkeye was there talking to his dear old mother and then when he figured it out, he thought it be best to go and see what it was that hawkeye wanted.

^Alex, the anime splits from the manga story early, and they are completely different plots at a point , for example, Dante isn't in the manga, Ling isn't in anime, in anime Pride is a different person from in manga... etc

Well its been a long time since i have watched FMA anime but its the same until Al becomes State alchemist.. Actually after Nina is fused with Aleksander and killed by Scar.. after that its totally different..

Ya, about then, though is you have time I'd recommend skimming the first few, cause there are subtle differences here and there

The major dividing point in the anime from the manga is

A)-Lyra doesn't appear(that's the first one of very large importance)
B)-When Dante appear's, from then on the manga is seperate.
C)-Scar kill's shou tucker in the very same chapter which he turns' nina into a chimera, and also kills nina chimera 'out of mercy'
Ling and the other oriental people from Xing don't appear in the anime at all(LAAAAAAAAAME)
D)Pride, Sloth, and wrath are different to their anime counterpart's.

The major divide start's around about episode 26-28, and is begun with , as I said, when dante appear's.

And the manga is better :P

Yes, but kimbley has the most bad ass persona out of every state alchemist we've seen so far, and he's just simply following orders.

That'd be my guess as to why Caesar doesn't like him.

I actually like him alot, simply because he's a reknowned killer and proud of it as opposed to mustang who is a reknowned killer but doesn't like that aspect about himself.

Add to that, the whole fued with Scar, and the fight's they will surely have. I mean in the anime alone, it was plain awsome, imagine what it'll be like, a full drawn out battel in the manga!

I've watched all the subbed eps 1 - 51 and the movie Conqueror of Shamballa, which didn't exactly have a proper ending.

In the end, Al and Ed stay in the other side and leave everyone back in central and resembool..I feel bad especially for Winry

There are some differences in the earlier episodes, but they completely part ways at the end of the Fifth Laboratory incident.
I'd advise reading the entire manga, but just reading from the Fifth Lab would probably be ok if you really don't want to do that.

I want to read the manga but i don't know where to start from and i am not starting from the beginning either.But seeing the manga has different characters from the anime and even the homunculi are switched.No dante,no female sloth but i know it is better than the anime.But the anime was god and sometimes makes you want to cry lol.

I actually felt for greed when elric killed him in the anime but in the manga it seems to me as if the homunculi don't get the kill offs like in the manga.I hate envy and he never dies.I hope he gets killed off in the manga.

Pride is the little boy. The one who the hemonculi call 'Father' is the one who destroyed Xerxes to make a body. Pride is one of his creations later. What I don't understand is how Hoenhiem is the philosopher's stone. Surely the 'Father' dude is the philosophers stone given form, and Hoenhiem is just immortal on the sidelines sort of thing? Or perhaps they're each half Hoenhiem, hence the resemblance, and half the stone, hense them both being immortal? Anyone got a better idea?

Well, this is my take on it.

The one in the flask was created or born into the world using Hohenheims blood/dna whatever.

Then homunuclus whoever or what he may truly be I dunno, gave his knowledge etc, to hohenheim and the king of xerxes. What his true motive was however was to gain a body of his own along with power it seems, since he used the people of xerxes to create a philosphers stone which is basically just power that comes from the lives of humans in a physical form.

So, homunculus put half of the power in him and half of the power in hoheheim in which he calls his father which made them both immortal and why he looks like hohehenhim is because the body he created using the stones power used the blood/dna/genetic code of hohenheim in which also homunlucus was born into the world on.

When they say "they are the philosphers stone" is because they have its energy/power or whatever transmuted within them. After all the phislophers stone is not really a stone its just the power/energy of many lives made into a physical form.

Yeah, I think I'd go with that. What I find more interesting is the fact that there are seven homonculi out there, that means seven nations were destroyed to create them. Xerxes is one, fair enough, but you would have though by the seventh civilisation to disappear people would take a little notice. Instead, they only find out about it, essentially, by accident.

Well, I don't think it was for every homonculus. They only destroy entire nations to make the philosphers stone. The Xerxes father homunoclous was already there before Xerxes was destroyed, and when he makes a homonculus it comes from him and he even says its a part of him.

We don't know enough yet to tell what this father homonuclus really is and how he is able to transplant parts of himself into other beings to make homonclus. They do however, represent the 7 deadly sins and come from the fathers soul.

Then there is the whole thing about why are they doing it to amestris and what the human sacarfices that have seen the gate are for. He isn't trying to make more homonuclus or gain the philsophers stone, although Envy said making the stone was "close" to their true purpose.

Another issue yet to be resolved is the whole 2 techquines of alchemy and their differences/ reasons behind them.

I beleive Greed takes them to Wrath of Anger which is the Fuherer, they do this because one they are of importance and called "human sacarfices" that they need to keep alive for now for what ever reason is still unknown. So what the Father person does is escort them back to the Fuherer where he is having the discussion with Mustang. Basically they are saying ok you guys figured out the truth about the millitary and know a little bit about of what is really going on and on top of that you are important "human sacarfices" So we will let you live and do as you please as long as you dont reveal our secerts. This is why they transfer all of the Colonels subrinotes and Winry. That is their "insurance" that they follow the agreement of not intervening or revealing their plans.

Its rare that someone posts spoilers in this section but heres a summary courtesy of Tombow at fullmetal-alchemist forums

Chapter 81
Caption: Unexpected reunion at an unexpected place!! The father's first word is...?
Despite their reunion they do no have much to say, and Hohenheim is needed for helping with chores, so he heads back.
Hohenheim: "I'm sure I don't have his trust as a father, and I don't know what to say to him."
Al apologizes to the town's people that by Al and Ed exposing the fraud of their religious leader it ended up inviting larger trouble to the town.
The town's people respond by saying Al and Ed did the right thing.
With that, Al follows Hohenheim to help with chores also.
Yoki, and the Chimera solders follow Al also.
Rose is asked by Al to shelter Winry in some hidden safe place.
Rose takes Winry, and Rose offer Winry to wash up first.
Rose and Winry have a friendly talk about Ed.
Rose: "We are no longer relying on 'Mircle,' and instead trying to regain our footings on our own. " "If we stayed the course and kept following our false religious leader, we might have had tuned into the part of their so-called "solders who would not fear death...."

Elsewhere, in the Central, the scene is the continuation from the last chapter, with Major General Armstrong and Lieutenant General carrying on the conversation by the rows of upside down Immortal Army."
We are going to attach souls to these vessels with the shape of human bodies, and create an army of solders who do not fear own death.
The needed souls will be harvested from people who are killed in the war.
The battle fields will turn to our hunting ground to obtain large number of souls.... Lieutenant General continues his talk to Major General Armstrong.
Elsewhere....
Izumi is still on her trip. The Army hasn't found her yet. The Central Army continues the search for her.
Central, underground...
Bido, the lizard chimera is there, getting lost, and being chased by the chimeras who are guarding the place.
Bido ends up among those upside down vessels of "Immortal Army."
There is Greed....
Back to Reole.
Al and Hohenheim are talking. Al tells Hohenheim that the reason he wanted to check Reole was to search for the underground tunnel there, and tells him about informations he obtained so far, about "Father (not ho-ho but Homunculus)" and the nation-wide Transmutation Circle.
After hearing Al, Hohenheim asks Al: "What if I turned out to be someone on your enemy side?"
Hohenheim sees Al's expression that's showing that that thought has never occurred to AL.
Hohenheim to Al: "Thank you, for trusting me." And Hohenheim decides to tell everything to Al.
He also wants to tell to Ed, but Al tells Hohenheim that Ed is missing.
Some town, somewhere....
One of the chimera solders who helped Ed and then turned to Ed's side is withdrawing the allocated research funds to the State Alchemist at the bank. That alerted the military, and the solders from the military head to the town's hospital where Ed is staying.
The solders are just about to raid the hospital when Ed comes back from shopping. He sees the solders, and he plays "innocent" and asks the look out solders what kind of person they are going after, and the solder answers that they are looking for a "shorty." And hearing that Ed explodes and knocks out all the solders.
Chimera guy tells Ed that he should take it easy, as he is still recovering from the injury.
For that Ed answers: "I'm already recovered and in a top shape, with full of energy!!"

Chapter 82: "Soul Family" (temporary chapter title till I read the actual raw ^^)

Caption: Ed is back!! With full of actions!!
Ed and his gang run from Central Army's soldiers, and Ed is back in full action mode.
He acts as if he is a hostage to make the soldiers hesitate to shoot them. He highjacks a car, then transmute it to change the appearance. In the car, while running away from the Army's pursuit, Ed ponders where Al might go if it were Al in this situation.

Meantime, Al is with Hohenheim. Hohenheim tells Al about his past, and the secret about his body being the Philosopher's Stone. Al: "My father was a slave, and he is a Philosopher's Stone?!!!!" Though the news is shocking, Al accepts it as it is not impossible to have the impossible, as Al himself is the product of unusual circumstances. Both having unusual bodies, they understand each other.

Al wonders about Ed's and Al's "human-ness," born as sons of someone who is a living Philosopher's Stone, but being assured by Hohenheim that although the decomposition & reconstruction have fused Hohenheim with Philosopher's Stone, but the core is still Hohenheim, a pure human.
Hohenheim adds that, on the other hand, "Father" is a non-human thing in a 'leathery pouch' that happen to be in the shape of Hohenheim.

Al shows Hohenheim the diagrams of the Country-wide Translmutation Circle, and the Reverse Transmutatin Circle, and suggests destroying the underground tunnel, but reminded by Hohenheim that Pride is there, and Al gives up the idea of destroying the tunnel.
Al is worried that the tunnel can be completed soon, and he is in a rush to do something to prevent it. Hohenheim tells Al, "The tunnel may already have been completed. But 'the day' is not upon us yet."
He continues: "Stop keeping eyes on the underground tunnel. Look up, and you may see more. That one is waiting for the arrival of 'the day'."


The scene changes to the Central underground.
Greed/Ling attacks an intruder, Bido. Bido tells Greed/Ling about the former Greed, and GreedLing vaguely recalls some of the memories from former Greed.
But, when Bido tells Greed/Ling that he was former Greed's company, Greed/Ling says that he doesn't know Bido, and kills Bido. (note: NOOOOOOOO!!!! O_o)

But then, right after killing Bido the memory of his companions at the Devil's Nest passes through his head. He is troubled. Ling, from inside Greed, questions Greed's action about killing his former company. Greed: "He is not my company!! The memory of him is that of the former Greed, and not mine!! I have forgotten and left behind all my past!!" To that, Ling shouts back: "No way you can forget and leave behind your past. Your comrades are people you are being connected with in the soul level. Your soul is imbrued with their memory within. You can't wash them off like that. Yet, you cut-off your 'soul family,' killed him on your own hands! And, you claim to be 'Greed' who wants to own everything?!"
Holding Bido's lifeless body, Greed screams.

The Führer's residence. Führer, his wife, and Selim are relaxing at home.
Suddenly, Greed bursts in and attacks Wrath.
Greed: "The memory of my former self hasn't disappeared. The memory of people falling down, the ones who were supposedly my companies." While attacking Wrath Greed continues, "And, why is King Bladley in that scene?"
Wrath counters, "Greed, the one who can't let go of anything, even the past memory!! Fool!!" and he combats back. They fight as Selim watches them.
The fight goes on. Even during the fight, more memories of former Greed come back to GreedLing. GreedLing runs off from the Führer's residence.
As the fight ends, the Pride's black "hands" appear underneath Selim who were watching the fight with the stern expression, and disappear into the floor.

Somewhere in the suburb of Central City.
This is Mustang's safe house, the one once used when Ed and the company caught Gluttony, and brought Gluttony to.
Ed arrives, thinking that nobody would probably suspect that Ed and others would be here again, and if he were Al he would probably show up here also. But, Al is not in the house, and no evidence of Al having stopped by.

Then, GreedLing appears, and collapses to the ground. Ed asks him whether he's Greed, or Ling.
Answers Ling, "I'm starved. I didn't expect that I could see my friend again in this place."

Caption: "Ed meets Ling again, and of course the scene is Ling starving on the ground again."

(End of chapter 82)

Yes, it is definitely worth reading, because FMA's anime and manga story split in different directions at the 5th laboratory part, and have different concepts and some new characters.

I personally think you should read it, and I've both watched the anime and read the manga.

I think I'm turning into a Winry-Ed fanboy. :o Wow she's matured quite a bit since the last time I saw her, and then there's the closeup with Ed...when did he grow so tall? And is it just me or was anyone else waiting for the kiss or awkward moment between the two?

But man do I like how FMA gives you a good dose of everything: comedy, drama, action, and suspense are guaranteed in almost every chapter that comes out.
