Ok well some of you may know about these 'shootings/threat in school' stuff.
In my case, my school have this thing called 'Locked Down' where we have to practise to hide incase of a emergency such as someone has intruded with weapon or some simple reason like, mad man outside of school who goes crazzy and acting creepy or gas spil outside etc... But what Im trying to say is, Dont you think world has gone crazzy, like since when do people bring guns/weapons to school and shoots/kill innocent students and teachers.
Oh and I am not sure about this but I heard there was about 24 shootings/threat on U.S, in Canada, about 10 - 12. I kinda forgot.
What do you guys think?
How can we prevent this from happening for the sake of our future and our lives?

Well, one solution that is overlooked in nearly every case is just listening to people who need help, you can not blame shooting on guns, video games, television, and such. Simply listening to people or kids when they obviously are having trouble with a issue or something of the sort would greatly help reduce school shootings in my opinion. Just as what Marilyn Manson said when asked what he would say to the two boys who executed the Columbine shootings, "I wouldn't say anything, I would listen."
I totally agree with SumpfFuchs, listening to kid's problems would be a key effort in stopping most of the violence that goes on into today's schools. Sometimes just talking to someone and having them listen to you can be the best remedy.
We have lockdowns, but we hardly ever practice them =P
Its sad that you can get thrown into AEP for having pocket knives... Once a kid just flipped his out to open up a box and was thrown in AEP immediately. Thats just sad... its a POCKETWATCH. Not a switchblade or a dagger, a POCKET KNIFE. Sure, it could hurt someone, but generally you get something bigger/sharper if you want to hurt someone with a knife =P
All I can really think that could be done to significantly improve this problem would be to talk to these problem kids, force them to talk if you have to. Help get their problems out in the open before they hurt themselves or anyone else. More has to do with mental and emotional unstableness rather then pop culture influences *shoots jack thompson* =P Some kids think they're too touch and don't need to talk to anyone. They just need to get smacked up side the head with a reality check that there is someone that wants to help them make their life worth living again without having to harm someone else to make that happen

I have read about some therapy where rather then talking to someone in person, they will actually talk with a therapist via instant messaging in cases of people who have a hard time speaking with other people about their problems.

ah school shootings. something that is an interesting subject however to be quite honest if the parent/guardian and/or friends don't listen to the one in question than basically its never going to be prevented.

hmm....
school shootings stinks.
i mean, if there are a lot of school shootings every where, it feels like school is not the safest place to go anymore...i wish to think that i should enroll on online courses or home school (but i like to go to school no matter what).

school has become the place where frustrated kids with serious issues tend to express their inability...they tend to take revenge for everything that has happened to them or simply they would like to see some blood pouring from their teachers or colleagues......The issue of shootings in school is far from being something we shouldn't care because the current society encourages this type of behavior......I am not suggesting that violent videogames should be banned, but i suggest that a more complex psychological test should be done repeatedly in order to discover potential criminal minds within the students.

Face the fact we can never stop all the bad guys in the world... we can't stop what is unpredictable. We do the same thing in my school, we have the whole lock down thing... We were accuall practicing it this week... My teacher got out a hammer (not a regular one a huge one) and we discovered she has two of them... scary!!! Then my other teacher is paranoid about it. I say we just prepare and get over the fact that we can't stop it before hand.

We can't stop all the bad guys in the world .....we can't stop the unpredictable but we at least can try......we must believe that we actually can create a better society....If we sit around doing nothing we will never get through......and i say the that everything is predictable as long as people give a d@mn on how things are going

Well most kids who do this, already have had quite some trouble, or already aren't mentally 100%...but the problem here lies, how o U pick out those kids from the rest
And well a way to get the weapons out of schoolis...simply metal detectors or something alike like a X-ray thingy that is able to see what's inside the bag at the gate, this gives much the impression of an airport or prison...however it does increase safety for the ''good'' students who wanna feel safe a lot

i've rewatched the documentary concerning the columbine incident and it really freaked the hell out of me......some say that nothing could be done but in that case there were a million opportunities to stop those 2 teenagers to do that horrible act......the police the school their parents they were all in fault because if they used one chance they could have prevented such a slaughter .....to see the looks on the survivors faces it's creepy...they are still marked by it......one actually said concerning the parents fault quote "if they could've searched their room they would have been able to see that something is wrong:oo look 25 home-made bombs ...wow i think u have an issue" that line gave me the goosebumps

i'm a junior living very far from the USA and canada, in fact i live in a little island called tahiti. here, crime and murders are rare.
even, from where i live which is like on the other side of the planet from you guys, i hear about such horrific things like this.
and it scares me.
i don't know to what future we're heading towards, but it scares me.
all i can do, on my side of the planet is teach my surroundings, the younger kids about love, respect, peace and how violence won't solve anything.
i give tennis lessons to kids every wednesday and friday, and we talk about their problems too (whether it's at school, or at home)
talking, listening, sharing your emotions does help.

I study at a catholic institution but it doesn't mean it's safe. But we really don't having shootings here. We always seek cunselling from our guidance counselor and our friends. Some ways to prevent shootings in school is by psychological counselling, prevention of bullying and physical and verbal abuse. Sutdents should have an atmosphere of security and they shouldn't feel confined. There are some instances in school where students bring guns because of grudges or when they wanted to get revenge on other students who bullied them or made them feel bad or inferior about themselves.
The problem of (us) kids and students nowadays is that we don't talk to our parents, friends or to the elderly about our problems. It's better to open up so that we can prevent such deaths.

Hmmmm...well there are several things that can be said about school shootings. First of all, a lot of people consider the kids that come to school with a weapon to be bad kids who are bullies and such. That is almost never true. A lot of times the kids theat shoot people at schools do that because they are getting constantly bullied, it is their way of exacting revenge. It doesn't make it right though, obviously. Also, some blame should be laid on parents. It sis their jpb to make sure they know about their kid's life and whether he is bullied or depressed and take according measures. It is rarely because of grand theft auto or 50 cent that kids bring guns to school, it's because they feel miserable and alone and they feel that they are backed up against a wall.

My school's retared. Anyone can just watlz in. My school no doors are locked during the day or anything. We haven't had any shootings, but alot of people trying to set the toilets on fire. Maybe I should get back on topic.
People who do that kind of crap are morons and really need metnal help. Who the hell else would go and shoot random strangers for no reason

I wouldn't say they are all morons, but they definetly need mental help. Your statement about them shooting random strangers is deeply incorrect. Who would shoot a random stranger? Most of the time the kids know exactly who they want to shoot, and most of the time it is someone who bullies them and makes they feel bad and makes them hate coming to school because they know that person is there wiaiting to bully them even more. Since the kids that get bullied are often weak and acared, since they can't stand up for themselves, they start thinking that bringing a gun to schhol and shooting that person/people is the only way out.

The United States of America is notorious for its astronomical number of people killed by firearms for a developed nation without a civil war.
Though the conventional answers of easy availability of guns, violent national history, violent entertainment and even poverty are inadequate to explain this violence when other cultures share those same factors without the equivalent carnage.
The answer may lie in the political like always. Elite political and corporate interests fanning this culture for their own unscrupulous gain.
