For me, it would either be Plastic Tree, Asian Kung-fu Generation, or Kagrra. (L'arc-en-ciel is good too, but I don't like them as much as the ones I listed above.) Also, the band that did the most recent opening to Bleach is good, but that is the only song they have done (as far as I know).
I like Ayumi Hamasaki, Gackt, Do As Infinity, Every Little Thing and Miyavi.

I don't listen to as much Japanese music as I used to, but I was a big fan of Do As Infinity, Dragon Ash, and The Pillows.

Dragon Ash is pretty good... I'd have to say L'arc En Ciel and Malice Mizer are good... Even though I think Gackt and Hyde would be better as a duet or kept with their solo cds.

Well, I DID have one to this sight a long time ago... But I have to find it again. I think it's somewhere in my bookmarks... But if you wanna listen to the most current music in jpop, jrock and even classic 80's stuff go to http://j-fan.com/radio/ or add www.... It's REALLY good, and you can check their schedual to see what's playing.
Here's the schedule from the actual site:
Mondays 5:00 PM - 6:00: Enka Hour - An hour of contemporary pop ballads. The only time J-Fan Radio plays enka!
Tuesdays 7:00 PM: Club J-Fan Live Dance Party with m.c. A C - 18 to dance, 21 to drink. $1 domestic bottles until 11:00.
Wednesdays 5:00 PM - 6:00: Anime Hour - An hour devoted to music from Japanese animation. The only time J-Fan Radio plays anime music!
Thursdays 8:00 PM - 9:00: Video Game Music Hour - An hour devoted to music from Japanese video games. The only time J-Fan Radio plays video game music!
Fridays 5:00 PM - 7:00: J-Rock Show - A full two hours devoted to Japanese rock music.
Saturdays 5:00 PM - 6:00: 80's Hour - An hour dedicated to Jpop from the 80's.
It's a really good place! You should visit it sometime! A good idea to use broadband though.

Paolovas: You're welcome ^_^ I hope you like the station... I hope they don't shut down though, because not enough people are donating so they might shut it down :P So listen as much as you can!!!
shukaku: YEAH for Gackt! Except the fact that he thinks that he thinks he's 250 years old and a norweigan vampire O.o But that makes me like him more, just because of that ^_^

I've recently started an obsession with Little by little. Mostly because of the song Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni from Naruto. <_<

KOTOKO!!!!

Nah seriously I haven't really heard enough Japanese bands to do a proper comparison. However a while ago I bought Dreams Come True's love ballad collection album (cost £40 in the end with all the importing and blah >_<) and was really impressed with it, ignoring the 80s sounding tracks :p But japan to me seems to have a very imaginative culture which produces so many great things.

A friend also sent me a song called Angel song by The Brillian Green which I think is quite nice.
