i created this thread because i would like to share my passion for tennis...
well, i don't think this thread will become very popular...
but if anybody wants to talk about tennis, pro tennis players, or have question on strokes or gear, please tell me.
i'll be happy to help you with it :)
anyway, let me introduce myself...i'm an elite high school tennis player in my little country but moving to france next year to see if i have a chance of playing with the pros...
my favorite players are federer for his beautiful shot making and nadal for his mental toughness.
my racquet is a babolat roddick plus pure drive strung 24 kgs pro hurricane.
and i'm considered as an all around player with a big first serve and huge forehand.
i hope some of you will participate at this thread.
thanks

wow!! you're totally cool... ^^
I haven't played tennis for a long time now. First try at this sport was 5 years ago (looong time already) where I got hit on the nose (man, that hurt) so I enrolled in Tennis classes the next summer, and well, got 2nd place coz I keep getting double faults on the championship (was nervous).... I tried playing again last intramurals but then I couldn't even serve... so I totally forgot...
This sport is one of my favorites (even if I dun play it anymore) along with badminton and table tennis....

I've watched tennis a lot, and I might start playing in the future when I have time. I also have watched Prince of Tennis ( *cough* my avatar and sig should give that away *cough* ). Tennis definitly is a great sport to watch and participate in....once i start playing that is.

@Miyunami:
i'm sorry you got it in the nose, i know how painful it is, i was hit too when i was about 10...
yeah, tennis can be violent sometimes...lol especially if you're at net and the guy in front of you wants to hit it straight at you!!! dangerous!!!
i've been in this situation many times...the thing is to stay calm and keep your eye on the ball. ALWAYS !!! remamber the ball isn't travelling that fast, it's your fear making you think it is.
@Arrancar:
i know asians like this sport, i wish they'd come visit this thread :)
@Araharu:
yeah, PoT will make you want to play tennis. it's a little unrealistic ( like all manga) but is still very close to the reality. by the way, the twist serve is impossible, unless by mistake you hit the frame otherwise, it's impossible!! i've tried it, but in reality it's called a kick serve, but the curve of the ball is different.
the twist serve has the curve of a rigght-hander slice serve and the bounce of a left-hander slice.
just unbelievable.

Hellooooo, finally somebody started a thread about tennis...I play but not regularly, I play if I have the chance..didn't actually had proper training, but decent enough to make the opponent run for the ball :winking56
At the nose miyunami? ouch! My most embarassing moment during a game was when I was about to make a serve. I accidentally stare directly (or at least close enough) at the sun and still tried to make a serve....end result is I missed the ball and worst is I can't see anything for 3 seconds...nothing but black.
PoT..yes I like it too.

YEAH!! another post !!! i didn't expect that many!!! lol
no i'm just kidding!!! i'm glad people who have posted here are sharing their moments, whether it is a little embarrassing or not. hehe
@rOyKia:
i was wondering why didn't anybody start a thread on this beautiful sport. guess it was up to the tennis junky i am to do so.
it's a funny story but very true!! it happened to many of us, tennis player.
the position of the court and sun and the time affects so many things!!! like you said, you were serving and there the sun was !!! BAM!!! straight in your eyes !!!
so here's a little advice for everyone you will be in this situation:
adjust your toss according to the position of the sun. it's as simple as that.
though it will be little awkward at first, because changing your toss will affect your swing, your timing, and sometimes your stance.
wearing a cap will also help a little, try positioning the cap, so that it hides the sun from your face.
wearing sun glasses won't help during your serve because it won't get rid of the glare.
as you will become more experienced, you'll find out that in tennis and in many other sports, there's is many many factors that will affect your game no matter who you are and how good you are.
that's when the real champs come out, champs will adapt to whatever factor there is (wheater, opponent, wrong gear, different tennis balls...)
so what are you waiting for, go out and play!!! :)
I <3 playing tennis, but I can't serve worth a flip... I've probably only landed 10 serves properly, and probably only 2 were decent serves (if only you could do it underhanded offically.. XD) I have the best control with my backhand and my forehand is semi-decent xD
@momo chan: i don't play tennis but i love prince of tennis and i play badminton i guess that's about as close as i can get. and btw i'm not a leecher anymore yay!
@araharu: luv the avatar soo cute u have atobe kun. nice sig 2 ^_^

I played tennis twice.. Both for three hours.. I'm no good at i t, but it's pretty cool. Fun and all. Looks pretty easy when you see it on tv, but when I played it, I didn't expect it to be so difficult.

I love atobe in chibi form...I love all those anime episodes when they did that. They should do that for bleach. :D
I actually didn't like Atobe at first, Tezuka was my fav. But then, Atobe grew on me and now he is my fav character.
*chants*
Atobe!! Atobe!! Atobe!! Atobe!!
*finger snaps*
*crowd silences*
So Cool......:biggrinki

@Arai:
officially, it is legal to underserve, but it's not effective if you don't apply heavy spin. but it is legal !!!
@reicheruxoxo:
congrats on becoming a newbie!!
badminton is pretty close to tennis, though i'll say you need quite good reflexes and good anticipation.
@shikamari:
same here, at first tennis seems so easy but once you play it, it's totally a different thing. tennis evolves around so many factors, such as individual skills, the balls you use, the weather, the opponents style...
that's why this sport is so great!!! every match you play is different, every ball you hit is always different !!
yeah i remember that rofl!!!! it was the showdown between tezuka and atobe. i think he's not really a bad guy he's just too arrogant for his own good. that's atobe kun for you! i like fuji and kaidoh in tenipuri form they look cute.
@ gbtennis: thanks ^_^. i don't think i will be able to play tennis ever! i'm a klutz

Atobe is a character in the anime...you'll see him eventually.
In my eyes, he is cooler than Momo. (Like my av and sig doesnt give that opinion away) It's up to you if you like the arrogance of Atobe or not.

Tennis is sometimes misunderstood as a pussy sport,
But it's also the basis of a lot of sexually oriented jokes.
Top 10 Reasons to Date a Tennis Player:
10- They're always looking for a good opportunity to come up.
9- They can do it with two people or four.
8- They have good hands.
7- They grunt when the action heats up.
6- They know how to make a racket.
5- They can hit it from all angles.
4- They got the endurace to last 3 hours - straight!
3- They're good with their balls.
2- They know just what to do with their stick.
1- Even when they aren't scoring, they're in love.
Enough with the jokes.
Tennis is a great sport where it's only you and your opponent, no team members (unless you're playing doubles).
Those people saying it's a pussy sport are idiots who don't know how difficult it is to perfect your game.
omg!!! rofl nice puns. i have a question who'd ur fave tennis player?
Thread Revival!!!
I've been playing for a couple of years, well 2 years, but that was 4 years ago :P
complicated huh?
well 4 years ago I played for a club for 2 yrs, then I stopped, I thought, meh, it's pretty tired playing the game
then recently, I just played again, and able to entered a team in the school :)
well in here, you can't enter a team unless you're good, so that's pretty good, I thought i'm a noob xD
but I do have a QUestion, I need to know how to Spin xD
I could slice the ball downwards, if you know what I mean, but I think spin is different isn't it? don't you slice it upwards or something? so the ball spins in a different way?
anyways, please tell :)
and one more, I got this racket, it's Wilson, it's called Hammer 5.0 or something
it says that I could raise the Tension of the string to make it stronger
and lower the tension, to have more control
can anyone explain, what does more control means xD
and how do you raise the tension? and which is better? thanks ;)
