Judged Debate Rules
The purpose of 'Judged Debates' is to replace the old 'Team Debates' section that died due to inactivity. Unlike with the old 'Team Debates' section, there are no fixed teams, so you can enter into a debate with anyone at any time, and have it judged. Judged Debates are perfect for people who enjoy debating and want to compete with other debaters in serious contests.
Note that all of the rules stickied at the top of the 'Debates' section still apply in this section. If you wish to participate in a debate, but don't have anyone specific in mind, feel free to post in the 'Challengers' thread, or PM someone who has already posted there.
Starting a 'Judged Debate'
To participate in a 'Judged Debate', you must first PM a judge with the following information:
1. The topic you are debating on
This can be anything you like, although the judge reserves the right to decline a topic if it is likely to cause strong agression, or if it is stupid. Make sure the topic is specific, so no confusion is caused, and if necessary, define any terms in the topic that are likely to cause confusion.
2. Who is debating
If you are in pairs, or threes, or whatever, you must state who is on which team. You must also give each person a number beside their name in brackets
3. The format of the debate
The order the debaters go in, denoted by numbers
The judge will then check that all the details are correct, and post up the thread, after which you may start the debate.
Example
Below is an example:
Topic: This house believes that the police force should be routinely armed (Note that in this case, 'armed' refers to firearms)
Debaters: Neve (1) debating against the motion, VampyreLord (2) debating for the motion
Format: 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2
Judges
Anyone can judge a debate, as long as the debaters in question all agree and the judge is fair and unbiased.
Please only enter a debate if you know you have the time to do one. It's rather frustrating and a bit inconsiderate to say "sure, I'll debate with you" and then make everyone wait a week before you post...
