Meh, I hate mkv files. They always lag and subs always overlap each other. I downloaded the first episode by gg last night and it lagged very bad, even with the latest version of VLC. So instead, I downloaded the avi by Eclipse. Avi ftw really...
You're comparing apples to oranges.

The gg sub was high-def (1280x720), the Eclipse AVI was standard def (704x396). That's a lot more pixels to throw up on screen.

The gg sub was MKV, using x264 for video. x264 video is higher quality than XviD (what's used in AVIs generally), but also take a lot more processing power.

You're having the same problem I did. Your machine is just not up to snuff for decoding the HD subs.

CCCP doesn't have anything to do with VLC. If you look in the CCCP folder under All Programs on your Start menu, you'll see it has installed Media Player Classic and Zoom Player. Play soft-subbed files with one of those two. They're the ones that can use VSFilter to render the subs, not VLC. Also:

Though i watched both gg and eclipses hd subs and i think eclipses was better and i think their encode was better but i haven't really compared.

AVI has a resolution limit as far as I know, and MKV is definitely a superior format in many ways. Even at the same resolution, an MKV file is smaller than an AVI. The MKVs can also have dual audio, softsubs (disable subs if you want a screen shot), and you can have HD quality. There are media players out there that can throttle the quality of the MKVs, giving you more fps (instead of the pathetic lag) and a lower resolution (only necessary for computers that cant handle HD). Maybe AVI for convenience only, but MKV is a superior format in all ways.

I wish they'd just put out two releases. There are people who'd rather have smaller files anyway and don't need HD resolution, and they could still use the same source. Just run the encode twice and add a different resize setting the second time.

Do you have QuickTime installed? Or were you using QuickTime Alternative? If you didn't actually use QT maybe the CCCP reinstall borked your QTA install (although it shouldn't). Are you trying to drag the files to MPC/ZP to play them or are you double-clicking them and they just say aren't auto-opening where they should?

That's not a given really. MKV and AVI are just containers for the file. You can have an MKV and stick DivX (the video format usually used in AVI files) into it. You'll end up with an MKV with the same size/quality ratio as and AVI version. There have been some fansubs released recently that did just that. I think it's also possible to do soft-subs in AVI also, but the general response you'd get on the Doom9 forums is "Why would you want to do that?" I can't remember what the requirements are for multiple audio streams, though. The video format you put in an AVI can be one of several, its just that XviD is the standard now.

The MKVs can also have dual audio, softsubs (disable subs if you want a screen shot), and you can have HD quality.
You don't even have to disable the subs for the screen shot. Since the subs are rendered on a separate layer, they don't appear in screen shots taken by the media player (which is a double-edged sword if you want the subs captured).

so basically with episode three i an pretty much tell two things.
**spoilers**
1. rolo is basically going to be some kind of test tube baby/clone you can tell by the fact that he wouldn't give the pendant to lelouch, most likely when he was created he has just been trained and given the basically necessary life materials not anything above.

2. kallen(mimori basically(See next bracket)) is going to hook up with ryhou(if you've watched sycred till the end for some reason like myself) oops sorry li xingke. you can surmise this from the brief interaction they had, and the fact that cc and lelouch have already kinda hooked up and the background they now share, and the fact their not going to leave her by herself.

Rolo is probably Lelouch's half-brother (possibly brother, because of his attachment to locket) the since he has the Geass (gift of Kings etc, or whatever they called it), as in they share the same father. Clone? No. Mixing clones into Code Geass would be too much, really.

Consider that they are brothers. Rolo got stuffed away at birth, or whatever, and no one really cared/knew about him, etc. Then Lelouch gets everything he'd get, he gets jealous and shit. Jealous of both Lelouch and Nunnaly. So the locket becomes a token of brotherhood, or something ("no you gave it to me!!!").

Too lazy to elaborate more, but you get me.

That's one thing I'd like to know more is what the thinking is behind Japanese translation of r's and l's. They always seem to pick the opposite of the one that makes more sense to me.

Kallen and Karen are both correct as far as i know. Kallen Stadtfeld is the name she uses as a Britannian, Karen Kouzuki the Japanese one for when she's out doing Lelouch's chores.

I'd rather it been Nina who died than Euphie. They could have written a scenario where the bomb did go off but Zero wasn't there, so Nina blows up half of the Tokyo settlement. Of course that would have meant the end of Ashford academy, Millay, Count Lloyd and Cecille, ect.

The basic premise of the 'eye is the window to the soul' is still apparent in this one too, with the use of the Geass. The main characters (Lelouch and Suzaku) are great, which makes it worth following. Also love the music at the right intervals. And the (1st) ending music is awesome :)
