Ive had this pet peeve about people typing lawl. at first i felt like a noob when i asked what it meant, but after hearing the meaning, the abbreviation should be LOL not LAWL. if you share my frame of mind please do share, and for those that dont, they may too post, but expect any sympathy from me.

so, we begin with this:

LOL is better then LAWL because it has less letters, thus requiring less of my time typing them.

Is this discussion for real?

/Moved to The Lounge

I'll keep it here if its fairly serious. If people start spamming the thread then its doomed.

I prefer using "lol". Mainly because it makes sense as an abbreviation *shrugs*.

i would have to agree, z

thx for the move, idk if this was the right place or not.

and as for the disscussion, me an prof had a small disagreement on #cbrp, apparently kaze wants to put it in the NL.

idk either way, as long as my voice is heard.

it should be typed 101

I had met a total n00b who add LOL behind all his sentences
I know what it means
but when i asked him if he know what LOL stands for (i was testing him)
he said he has no idea
imagine adding LOL behind all sentences without any idea what the hell is LOL
it will make him look like a sarcastic assh0le

lol in all it's formers.

"Lawl" is a bit weird because it has no real meaning (after all it doesn't mean "Laughing Out Loud").

And lol rolls off the tongue better.

it should be typed 101

Rofl, where you get that from? Only spammers use numbers instead of letters lmao.

And lol ftw, it makes more sense than lawl.

woot, lots of supporters!! prof in your face!

second reason LOL is better:

the l and the o keys are right beside each other, meaning its easier to type.

LOL. 'Lawl' is probably so because people actually speak the word 'lol'.

Just like how 'hot' can be spelt as 'hawt'. XD

lawl is a much more sarcastic form of the word lol. In terms of its current internet status lol is currently a substandard showing of physical laughter. Once reserved for times when the person acctually thought something was funny, lol is now commonly used as more of a nicety than because something is funny. If something is really funny a more extreme phrase such as ROFL or LMAO would probably be used. In cases when something is really unfunny but is suposed to be the sarcastic form, lawl, could be used. The missuse of the term lawl as a replcament for lol is incorrect and quite frankly is far more retarded.

Yeah... I like them both. xD

But I use them in terms of how much I found stuff funny. If I use "lawl" it means what was said isn't as funny as "lol". Lawl looks kinda funky, so that's why I like it. But both of them work for me. xD

Quoted because of two reasons,

First, I agree.
Second, OMG! Unholy typing without burning or spamming? Wow... :p

Unholy definitely makes a good argument although I do tend to use lol more than lawl mainly because then I'd probably actually start saying "lawl" in real life...

I never use "lawl" I can't recall I time I have ever used that. But I know I have used "lol" plenty of times, so I think anyone who uses anything other then "lol" is a loser :P

LOL just sounds better, the texture... the sound, the touch and even the taste

LAWL is just stale and bitter

I almost always say lawl.
That is just because my former WoW guild was always saying Lawl just to be tard noobs. So after a while I just started using Lawl more often then Lol.

No biggy imo!

And people that say I hate people that use the word lawl because they are losers must have some kind of mental problem. You don`t hate someone because they choose to write something different.

Example: I hate the word lolz. I know people that use it but i`m not like OMFG I HATE YOU TARD NOOB.

lol or lawl, I can't tolerate when people say stuff like "lol" or "stfu" in real life. It just ticks me off. I can't take it. Save INTERNET lingo for something called the INTERNET. It's so annoying...

by the way, go lol

I use both, they're all fine. I think I use lawl when I find things really amusing. I have a few geek friends so they result in using chat speak in real life. Two of them even entered my school's singing contest and sang the noob song and "rofl copter" XD. If anybody wants to see the performance of the noob song, clicky here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF9JpoqmdLc). You get to see the gay senior male uniforms too.

lol...

I think I've sadly said 'lawl' IRL before :x

But yeah, I'll say stuff like "stfu" on purpose as a joke or something. But people that do it seriously are sad and need a more productive life, IMO

wow, this is still goin ?! well it is about chat speak so i guess it'll never end! oh yea GO, LOL!!!!!

In my opinion both of those acronyms are kinda, well stupid.

I don't use any of them but "lol" looks less stupid than "LAWL"

Neku

Well imo LAWL gives LOL more emphasis but also alot of noobs use it on online games etc :P

ghey b
12-18-2006, 03:52 PM
well till i saw this thread i didnt even know what LAWL was so i checked it out and apparently it means the same thing is LOL which is stupid because LAWL doesnt even stand for Laughing Out Loud... but whatever i use lol not lawl... i just cant stand it when people actually talk like their on the internet when there standing right beside you... actually saying lol or brb is just stupid... i think... thats my opinion..

noob question tho.. ive been trying to figure out what FTW stands for and cant figure it out... someone help me out on this one?

Neku
12-18-2006, 04:00 PM

LAWL
Lame Ass Way of Laughing
Loser Approach at Web Lingo
Lazy Attempt at Word Lessening
!!Add on!!

12-19-2006, 05:37 AM
Ok I like LOL more than LAWL just like I like God instead of GAWD (unless I feel like stressing on the word). I'm used to the simple LOL...LAWL kinda overdoes the whole idea and kills the cuteness of it...XD

That's my opinion :)
