the bible lies though.. b/c in the first book, Genesis, in the very first page.. within those 7 days (well.. 6, he 'rested' on the 7th) he made the earth and all the mountains.. and it said that there were birds, fish, cattles etc...
it's too bad that the earth started out with single-celled beings that evolved into dinosaurs.. in how many years?
So at least... the landscape of the earth and the creatures... were wrong in the bible..

I believe in God, I pray, I try to follow the commandments, though I'm not Christian. To me it's just a thing of hope and knowing that sometimes where ever you are, somebody would be watching over you... unless its a stalker of some sort :(

Really There is a god and there isn't...its really up to what you think...
You see god is around for people with no hope, fate, or anything good in there life to turn around and have something to look for in his days. But, also some people are pig headed and don't want to put forth the effort to change and blame god for all the misfortunes that EVERYONE has one felt.
My self? Well I'm not a angel. The only thing i want to do is simply 9/10 conmandments, with a little code that i follow, and the golden rule every so often. [the only conmandment i don't follow is to use his name in vain, dammit] Do I think he doesn't exist? No, he is there; but only because people believe in him and that's good. I think everyone needs to have hope in there life and if its in the faith then believe. Where am i going? Heaven or the Underworld? noone knows...
Also to the people how think that darwen had it all figured out...Your all wrong, Cause damn its been FOREVER that monkeys have been hanging on that damn tree...so if you think about it...that monkey on the tree is the same damn thing a monkey millons of years ago would do...come on, animals don't evolve they adapt!
Also, how did the earth come to be? I say it came from thin air...and sure it did...god pulled it out nothing and here we are...the bible doesn't say "god pulled out earth plate 'A' and snaped it with plate 'C' along the blue sticker" it just says , " hey it was made and it was good...'nuff said"
Many strive to grasp the answers to these questions and come up died before they find out...I simply don't care...Lets just look at what we got and where to go with that...Other's tell me Why do I live and for what reason? I simply am...thats good enough...There is really no need to question that with no answer...
Well there you have it amigos, A character like me should be in Bleach. Ballistics out...[B]
either way.. the world does not seem to have started off the way the bible says it did.. dinosaurs weren't mentioned in the bible..
i beg to differ, granted the word dinosaur is not used but than they are mentioned its not uncommon for the bible facts to be over looked such as the bible claimed the earth was a sphere long before that was discovered and that its not the center of the universe, and that there are ocean currents etc etc
thats niehter here nor there and doesnt prove its correct, but it does help its validity.
the thing is and this is not directed at anyone on this bored....yet, you can certainly be an enlightened intelligent person beliveing in all the science because heck einstien said the more he learned about the universe the more he saw god (at least i think it was einstien, or some famous dude) heck the greatest mathemititian in the world blaise pascal was a devoted christian

Okay I'm just gonna get my huge speech out in one huge post. And end it. No questions. Because I wind up doing 20 something posts in these sort of topics and I don't feel like it anymore. So here's my spiel.
Hi. I'm Amanda, AKA Shinigami Atma, and I am....A proud member of the Shinto faith. I believe in the Sun Goddess Ama-Terasu Oho-Mikami and her bretheren. Why am I different? My entire family is full of extreme Christian bigots, and they treat me bad, so I decided to find my own faith, and I did. This faith best suits my beliefs and has given me comfort over the years since I became a Shintoist. heck, I'm almost a Miko (Shrine priestess).
What is Shinto? Here's the scoop.
SHINTO-THE WAY OF THE GODS
--------------------------------------
~*~SHIN-TO (NOUN) (PRONOUNCED: Shin-toh)~*~
Shinto is the indiginous religion of Japan, originating in about 500 BC by nobody in particular. The word Shinto comes form the Chinese words "Shen Tao" meaning 'The Way of the Gods."
Unlike most religions in the world, there is no major founder, no major prophet, and no major scriptures. However, there are a few texts that are highly regarded in the belief system. These texts are the KOJIKI (Records of the Ancient Matters), NIHON SHOKI (The Continuing Matters), and the YENGISHIKI (Book of Rituals). Each one is more of a glorified history book rather than a holy guide.
The creators of almost all beings in Shinto are Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, who gave birth to many other deities, the earth, the creatures, and many other things. Izanami-no-Mikoto, the wife and mother, died giving birth to a fire god named Ho-Masubi. Her husband then killed Ho-Masubi and Izanami descended to the underworld and became it's mistress and ruler. She is still this ruler today.
One of Izanami-no-Mikoto and Izanagi-no-Mikoto's daughters, Ama-Terasu Oho-Mikami, was put in charge of all life and is the main chief deity and the one in charge. She is the sun goddess and great-great-grandmother to Jimmu Tenno, Japan's first emperor and lord. Ama-Terasu Oho-Mikami is usually kind and wise, but has been known be very vain and angers easilly, especially around her younger and very troublesome brother, the storm god Susano. Another one of her brothers is the moon god Tsukiyomi, whom she despises for killing off their fellow deities at times for not much reason at all.
There are four basic affirmations and ways of conduct in Shinto.
1. TRADITION-This is preserved trhough family and freinds.
2. LOVE OF NATURE-Nature is sacred and is to be given respect. It is a divine thing that brings you close to the gods.
3. CLEANLINESS-It is very important to keep your physical self clean and neat.
4. MATSURI-Worship and honor the gods and your ancestors.
Ancestor praise is a very common aspect in Shinto and is very important. Rever those who gave birth to your family, for they protect you in the afterlife as one of the 8 million and counting gods. A very common term heared in Shinto is "Kami." This means god. Megami or Mekami is goddess.
Shinto has numerous festivals held throughout the year to celebrate children, boys, girls, the elderly, nature, and sometimes just happiness. Feasting, dancing, and feats such as archery can be seen and done at this time. Another interesting aspect of Shinto is it's attitude towards sexuality. Unlike out here and in other places where sexuality is seen as something forbidden and taboo, it is more seen as a fact and a thing to be embraced in Shinto. Positive feelings towards homosexuality can be seen in the Bushido code and other sacred texts. This may explain the vast amounts of hentai out there.
Not much is required of Shinto followers. A prayer a day to the gods and your ancestors is usually enough. Offerings of origami and food are common things, as is personaly prayer shrines, incense, and other gifts being offered.
Shinto is also known to be one of the few religions that stays more quiet and laid back than others. No Shinto follower has been known to go out and start crusades or holy wars. They like to stay quiet and peaceful.
There are 10 Commandment-style rules in Shinto.
i) Do not transgress the will of the gods.
ii) Do not forget your obligations to ancestors.
iii) Do not offend by violating the decrees of the State.
iv) Do not forget the profound goodness of the, gods, through which calamity and misfortunes are averted and sickness is healed.
v) Do not forget that the world is one great family.
vi) Do not forget the limitations of your own person.
vii) Do not become angry even though others become angry.
viii) Do not be sluggish in your work.
ix) Do not bring blame to the teaching.
x) Do not be carried away by foreign and evil teachings.
I don't hate anyone for what religion they are nor will i ever mock them. I may have opinions about certain faith followers and scriptures, but I shall never laugh at another for being who they are.
There's my post. Have a great day.

thats pretty interesting, That is the first time I've heard of the Shinto faith.
I hope that post was not meant to end this Forum, because it's nice to see everyone express their thoughts and beliefs (as Shinigami Atma just did). Anyway sticking to the title; I'm a Muslim (am I the only one in these forums?) and I do believe in God. Islam, one of the largest and fastest growing religions in the world, is really indepth and if were to explain or prove myself it'd get pretty lengthy but there are many, many common misconceptions people have of my faith but if many knew the true teachings; they'd be surprised (in a good way) because Islam stands for so much more. Anyway thats my 2 cents, peace.

yes i believe in god...but that's all im telling you because i hate getting in arguments about faith religion...to me it seems pointess...believe what you want and dont try to make the others believe you....
-_-;;
because why waste your time trying yo prove points and no one is EVER going to believe you....there may be some that accually start to agree....but no one will give up what they believe and believe you.... :/

the debate is to more to point out the flaws of both sides, not change ones views, a debate rarely does that. secondly by debating, you explore your own beliefs through your thinking. you may find yourself a stronger believer or perphaps change your own views.
the only way to learn is to question, if we have are beliefs and do not prove them to oneself at least, they will be no more than fiction. compare those who claim there is a god, based solely hand waving proof to park using the bible and Shinigami Atma's explanation
yet, you can certainly be an enlightened intelligent person beliveing in all the science because heck einstien said the more he learned about the universe the more he saw god (at least i think it was einstien, or some famous dude) heck the greatest mathemititian in the world blaise pascal was a devoted christian
very true, heard this on a physics tape scientist are the ones closest to understanding god because of the immeanse knowlegde of gods creatation. however, they can be separated into two schools, those who assume false until proven true, and those who assume true until proven false.

I'm with Destiny...I refuse to debate here on a forum. I debate enough with my friends as it is. Yes, I believe in God. And Ramenkage...you CAN'T disprove the existance of God. You can't prove it either. People believe in God because of faith (which, as a friend of mine pointed out, you really need a lot of to believe in an omnipotent being like God)

but you can disprove the doctrines that suggest the beliefs that god exist
for instance, if believed that god is the creator, by disproving that there was a creator nullifies god's existance or to some at least. but my intention in a debate is to point out flaws of the beliefs, you can believe whatever you want. it doesnt harm or benifit me in anyway. and also you really dont need alot to believe in god, most everyone seems to believe that there is a god.
and in addition, if you do not wish to debate, then simply dont, no need to spam here

I'm going to withdraw my non-debating principal for a minute here.
If you use the right frame of mind, science & religion work perfectly together. You can't prove how the universe was created; you can merely theorize. Let's say the universe was created by the whatever is believed these days (I've been told by my very knowledgable friend that the Big Bang is not the school of thought anymore). Then whatever that was was a result of God created it. I'll see if I can find the exact MSN conversation I had debating all this with my friend.
Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that of course the Bible isn't going to make much sense if you take it all literally. The early Old Testament especially is very metaphorical. Things in the Bible were over-simplified, & symbolism was used to an extreme, in order to make it "easy to understand" for the people of that day. It can be interpreted many different ways, and that includes various ways so that it & science can work side by side

maybe the topic should be reworded
do institutionalized religion hold true
but then again for some, religion is a more that believing god, its a way of life, guidelines of how to live
the big bang theory is already proven wrong, or at least it has been modified to fit new findings
