Alright guys I'm coming out...

I'm in a marching band!!! and I like it.

band is always looked down upon, but marching band is one of the funnest things I've ever done. Plus, the music is awesome. I'm a trumpet player, and the leader of my section (only of 8 people though).

Anyone else in a marching band? Anyone know why band gets all the crap?

Sence when was marching band considered a sport???

It seemed more like drill team to me when I was in it and my director hated me b/c I always spoke my mind and in some instances knew more than he did ^_^

w00t fellow trumpet/cornet player. we are the best. i was in marching band a rather large one to boot (nearly 200 people) for 2 year and where pretty good. but wearing those unis in September in southern VA sucked. my dream was to be a sousaphone player for the TBDBITL (one of my dreams, my big one is of course to be a professional pilot)...

I marched when I was high school and it's a sport damnit. So much time and effort goes into an 8 minute show that for someone to say it's not a sport is upsetting. I marched trumpet in 8th grade and Freshman year; sousaphone sophomore and junior year; and baritone horn my senior year. I'd love to see links of your bands' shows if possible.

Ive never marched before, but will be starting my first season next semester. Im kinda nervous, but excited at the same time. Ive been in band for years, but my HS never had a marching band. Is it hard?

not really, i found marching band easier than advertised, the hard part is keeping in step , all you do is watch the drum major or the director and holding the posture (it isn't very comfortable). Music shouldn't be hard just don't try to memorize the whole song at once, do it one line at time. mostly it's just memorizing music and where to go and keeping in line. quick question what instrument do you play?

I adore marching bands.
I did it all 4 years of high school,
and then 3 years of Drum Corps.

I also did 5 years of winterguard and winter percussion.

I'm a pretty big nerd :biggrinki

Edit: I do percussion and colorguard.

Yea and practicing the music makes it that much easier...the more you practice the more you'll notice that you have it memoriezed bit by bit (like any song). Marching is easy as long as you relax and just do what they tell you in basics. Also one more thing and correct me if you don't agree...practicing the hardest parts of the music or the parts with the hardest drill moves first is the best thing to do.
