I need to get a NVIDIA Geforce4 series or better or an ATI Radeon 8500series or better. But i have PCI express slots on my comp.

What kinda card could i get for this? (i prefer the price to be under 400 but i can deal with it being higher)

Try to either get an Nvidia Geforce 6800 if it fits the price, or go for the low-end 7 series like a 7300 or 7600. It depends on what you're wanting to do, really.

Oh, and 400 what? Dollars? You can get a really nice card for that amount, I think. You could probably go as far as a 7900 GT or 7950 GX2, to be honest. Although I'm not from America, I just had a little search in Google and I got the impression that the prices were below $400.

But if you just want something cheap, then try something from the 6 or lower 7 series.

Kind of card? A PCI express one of course! :p There's a lot to choose from with a price cap of $400. What's your chipset make? If it's an ATI with multiGPU support, I'd probably say get a x1950XT with 256MB or the XTX version of the same card (330/370 respectively).

For nVidia, I'd suggest at least a 7900GT ($~200 and up)
If you're willing just to splurge just a bit higher than that cap, you can get the 8800GTS; you won't be disappointed.

This is all assuming you have enough power to run these cards, as well as you playing lots of games. If not, then go lower, like a nVidia's 7600 series or ATI's 1950PRO or lower.

Final note: matching ATI's chipset with nVidia cards and vise versa is possible.

Yeah, well, if you can afford the 8800, then you'll pwn all existence. I don't really follow the cost of graphics cards overseas since they're so much more painfully expensive here :sad.

As for ATI, you can get the ATI Radeon x1600 Pro for just around $120 here in Australia. ANd yes it uses PCI-Express as well.

^_- You have the GeForce 8800GTS ? O.o

Anyway depends what you're doing. If you're gaming go with the high end cards like the the GeForce 8800GTS. Or if you like ATI better the Radeon X1900.

GeForce 8800GTX = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130071 ($419.99 about...)

Radeon X1900 = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102022 (100 some dollars)
