/asks Ice

What be the verdict?

Isis
07-21-2008, 11:03 AM
I like vegemite, but only in combination with butter.. it must be in Australian blood... the immunity lol.
What does that make me lol? I've got no Australian blood in me but I like vegemite..ask my friend, sometimes when I go to her place, I take a spoonful and eat it. Yeah, Im weird.

Haha kava you remind me of what happened to me once. I was at a japanese sushi train having dinner and there was a group of guys sitting outside. Once I was done eating with my friend, I was walking home. One of them was checking me out and then he stopped me and asked "hey are you filo?". Im like lol no, and then he got disappointed XD

Hey, and I'd rather be asked all those nationality questions then get things like:

"Where did you go to high school?"
"You're not local!? But how come you speak really good english?"
"You're english is really good."

XD I swear, Ive been here only like 6 months and Ive been told that at least 10 times already.

Decado
07-21-2008, 11:06 AM
Yeah. Being patronised is a kick in the teeth.

"You're english is really good."
Reply with - "Really? 'Cos yours ain't so great. Mate."

XD

Isis
07-21-2008, 11:27 AM
Haha, I should do that next time o:

I often just look at them and think "Lol, so people in other countries cant speak good english, cant they?" :p

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 11:42 AM
lol.. indeed, ignorant fools.

@Dec: What are you asking me about?

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 11:43 AM
lol i dont mind vegemite.

Haha, I should do that next time o:

I often just look at them and think "Lol, so people in other countries cant speak good english, cant they?"
But its fun to go to hong kong and then speak english at them and they get all confused because i look like a normal chinese kid.

Decado
07-21-2008, 11:46 AM
@Dec: What are you asking me about?
About our gang. Think we should start it up again?

Shootin' sideways, smokin cigs with the sunnies on and talkin slang really made me feel awesome.

Isis
07-21-2008, 11:48 AM
But its fun to go to hong kong and then speak english at them and they get all confused because i look like a normal chinese kid.
Lol, its not as bad as me now. When I go back home, I look like a typical malay chick but they start talking to me in malay and I speak back to them in malay or my accent-ish english.

This taxi driver was funny though. He kept talking to me in his best english voice but I kept talking to him in malay.

Its the fact that they want to practice their english and I wanna practice my malay XD

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 11:48 AM
you guys had a gang???

Decado
07-21-2008, 11:50 AM
Yeah. Why do you think Ice got the tattoo? We ran the joint. He was in a different gang but me and my boys pulled him to our side.

And lol. If I talk to my relatives in english they make fun of me. If I talk in our language, a random word now and then might be mispronounced and they make fun of me too.

...

I have no land to call home.

Can you imagine what that feels like?

/some movie line .. can't remember which movie

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 11:51 AM
Hell yes Dec!

We'll take down 'the man' this time...

Or die as flaming angels!

Isis
07-21-2008, 11:52 AM
I'd like to go down to Melbourne just to see what you guys are up to lmao.

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 11:55 AM
Come visit :(

We'll show you the place we did our first bank job.

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 11:56 AM
lol the melbourne gangsters :P

And lol. If I talk to my relatives in english they make fun of me. If I talk in our language, a random word now and then might be mispronounced and they make fun of me too.

Isis
07-21-2008, 11:57 AM
I might at the end of this semester, see what I can get up to haha.

Decado
07-21-2008, 11:59 AM
Bought a shop a couple shops next to the bank. Went to the basement of that shop and dug underground, then continued to drill underground coming up into the bank's vault.

Didn't get to shoot anyone, all sideways cool style >:

So we went back and held up the place by gunfire, robbing the empty safe we already robbed just to cause some mayhem :3

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 12:00 PM
aww not joker style :P

Decado
07-21-2008, 12:02 PM
^ Oh we held it by gunfire all right. Read the edit. ;)

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 12:04 PM
..and then we tipped the cops off to where we were, just because we knew they couldnt read directions.

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 12:05 PM
lol ok then XD

Isis
07-21-2008, 12:07 PM
If I was there, I'd laugh in your face :p

Or give you baileys and midori as a gift *nudge*

Karakura Red
07-21-2008, 12:12 PM
lol you'd probably be shot because they are so hardcore :P anyway i'm gonna go to sleep soon so goodbye all!

Decado
07-21-2008, 12:28 PM
/shoots

Sleep.

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 12:38 PM
Sleep in the angel's embrace... bwahaha.

@shaz: LOL. Do you WANT to kill me? We'll share and play some truth and dare. *wink*

Isis
07-21-2008, 12:55 PM
XD Maybe I do want to kill you?

You wont be missed :p

Icestorm
07-21-2008, 01:14 PM

Aha bs. Im the oldest and my sister (the youngest) knows more native language than me. I only actually have up to Year 6 of Malay but I deal in a convo aight. I changed to an international school for high school, hence starts the story of my global accent XD

O.O

Isis
07-22-2008, 01:50 PM
As long as we agree Tasmania is the ultimate fail, then thats aight. But that means we're making fun of Ai, so we'll just stick with WA XD

Kenken

Tell your teacher to shove it up his... bagpipes

RAWR!

Australian History, is boring.

BUT THAT'S GENERAL!

Victoria Vs NSW is WIN!

NSW was just a crock of shit. XD

(Still is. XP)

Melbourne history is hilarious though!

Back then, the border to NSW had customs (so did VIC), and there was this one family who dressed their pig with babies clothing and smuggled it into NSW. The big squealed/grunted and the customs officer was like "What's wrong with it?"
Lady: "It's sick"
Officer: "Well you better get it to a hospital, quick!"

xDDDD

And did you know cows used to die on Bourke St, in Melb? They used to get stuck in mud, in the middle of the road, and die there. xD
Their bodies were left there for days... and there were HEAPS of them.

/enjoys History for a good laugh. XD

Icestorm
07-24-2008, 09:30 AM
I lol'd.

random cow deaths ftw.

Karakura Red

Australia is unique :lol

Karakura Red

lols sure is. :)

Hikari
07-29-2008, 11:28 AM
I am completely unexcited about the olympics. We never win, and even if we do, there's no cash reward. :/

Plus, it takes up valuable TV time.

Anyone else seen the McAsia, McAmerica crap McDonalds is pushing on us? They barely even represent the countries.

Decado
07-29-2008, 11:34 AM
How about McAfrica.

Definitely associate Africa with quantities of food.

Hikari
07-29-2008, 12:11 PM
^ LOL. Very true. :P

But what I mean is, they're marketing a chicken and salad wrap as asian food. :/ I think America is bacon and eggs or something, but that's not so bad because I tend to associate America with cholesterol.

Yamamoto
07-29-2008, 12:21 PM
i like the Olympics >.>

it's the only proper sports television that i watch

plus i enjoy watching the opening and closing ceremonies xD

and the geography nerd that i am, i sit through every country that walks out in the opening ceremony :p

culture ftw xD

Icestorm
07-29-2008, 12:32 PM
lol.

Most of the stuff that I do want to watch isnt shown.. or are shown at insane hours..

Like the table tennis and the badminton..

The taekwondo..

Screw diving..

On the Mc*country* burgers.. the serving size is ridiculously stupid, I ate that thing in one bite.. It was like a freakin cheese burger.

Decado
07-29-2008, 12:42 PM
And it's double the price of a regular burger too.

Olympics don't fascinate me.

Decado
07-29-2008, 12:43 PM
And it's double the price of a regular burger too.

Olympics don't fascinate me.

Yamamoto
07-29-2008, 12:51 PM
the mcAsia wrap was like 8 dollars >.>

It didn't even taste that good..

Karakura Red
07-29-2008, 12:53 PM
Yeh those burgers are way too overpriced... and the big mac is so small now, i like the whopper much more.

Olympics are meh for me, i get much more excited in the World Cup lol

Decado
07-29-2008, 01:02 PM
Apparently the World Cup attracts a greater audience than the Olympics.

l. o. l.

Icestorm
07-29-2008, 01:07 PM
Yeah, well that makes sense.

Even I can understand that, and I dont like soccer THAT much..

Theres still much more to like about soccer than there is to like about most of the olympic sports..

Decado
07-29-2008, 01:09 PM
Yeah, none of the footbaling countries take the Olymics seriously, which is a bit of a shame probably. I mean, even the clubs won't let their players go to play in the Olympics because the new season is a few weeks away.

The level of class and money between Olympics and that to the domestic leagues is exponentially different, in that Olympics gives you no class and no money, compared to the prestige associated with the national side or the domestic leagues and cups.

Also, only the winning team gets a Gold. What a jib. You play a whole tournament for one gold, whereas four swimmers from one country have the potential to win four gold.

Hikari
07-29-2008, 01:42 PM
I've never really been one for sport. :/ I know, it's un-Australian, but i'd prefer a book and coffee than watch football.

Though I do follow the Rugby loosely... (Go Force!)

The plus side of the smaller burgers thing is that we won't eat so much, I guess. I heard we were officially classed as fattest nation a few weeks ago. Do we need a celebratory cake?

Decado
07-29-2008, 01:51 PM
I've never really been one for sport. :/ I know, it's un-Australian
This attitude on behalf of Aussies always leaves me in a contradictory mood.

I'm really happy to hear it, because it's true. Australian's love their sport and take it very very seriously, stamping all over oppositions with things like AIS, etc. Sport is awesome.

The counter is that they discard Football (soccer) over AFL, whereas AFL is only Australian, and they have a very very narrow minded ignorant view of soccer.

I mean, for someone like Kevin F'in Sheedy to ACTUALLY SAY on tv: "AFL is much better than soccer, come to our games because blah blah" totally discredits him as a sportsman, and somoene who fails to recognise why soccer is the WORLD game.

But that's changing since the last world cup, which is awesome :)

Hikari
07-29-2008, 02:05 PM
I didn't follow the World Cup, but everyone was talking about it.

Problem is, we only like sports we're GOOD at. :P

Icestorm
07-30-2008, 01:15 PM
Keven sheedy was a great coach to my team, and did alot for the game.. Probaby why he has such a biast to it.

Though he is delusioning himself.. Soccer isnt a bad game.

Karakura Red
08-01-2008, 10:03 AM

Hey everyone. I'm back!

Can anyone believe how well China is doing? Seriously, they're so good it's suspicious...

They cheated with the little girl singing and the fireworks were apparently pre-recorded. Who's to say they haven't cheated in any of the events?

I don't have anything against them. I just want them to have less medals than Australia... :x

Kenken
08-23-2008, 11:03 AM
and htere's also the issue about the girl who says she's 16 but some 'papers' say she's actually 14 o.o

That could be said about more than half of the Chinese gymnastics teams. They claim they're 16 but most of them look like they're no older than 14. Not to mention some of them might be on performance enhancing drugs. I would bet half of my life earnings that that's the case for the Chinese swimmers, basketball players and weight lifters. There is no way people that small and skinny can have legs and thighs that big.

Thanks. Let's hope I stay longer this time...

You have got to be kidding.

Firstly, I wouldn't call that "cheating" .. it was hardly worth winning a gold medal over =p

Secondly, it's the Olympics. They have officials other than Chinese officials officiating games.

Icestorm

Yup, but the problem with the ages is that the chinese government would love for china to show that they are a true super power and can compete with the US, so they could just as easily produce passports saying they were 16, since they would do anything to win.

Alot more is on the line for china than sporting pride, its also the pride of the communist country China, to beat the capitalist US. But I mean who would dare question the Chinese government, some US sporting board? I doubt they would risk aggravating them and turning it into a serious situation.

China isn't a super power. -.-;

The USA is the sole super power of the world.

China is a global power... or are rising up to it, anyway. xD

/me does not want to get into the levels of power and the concepts of power.

/me will end up writing an essay. xDD

As for the 'cheating' of the opening ceremony. I have to admit, we're all being pretty harsh on the Chinese. They had given us 'the best show in the world' and all we could do is criticise.

They have had three controversial 'fake' events happen at the opening ceremony. But if it was, say, the USA that had done that, we'd say 'wow, really? how clever!'. Agreed?

However, I do stress the fact that they DID abolish a poverty stricken village, just so they could build the stadium. Here, they paid $40/$80 billion dollars, (not sure which, I'm getting different numbers,) just on the Olympics alone.

Now, China is know to have massive socio-economic gaps from the very rich to the very poor. I just find it unfortunate that China had to show the world how spectacular they are, and how much they've changed into the 'modern China', when they should have done more for their own people.

I'm showing both points of the debate, here. But my main argument is that: They should have used less money on the Olympics and at least cut them some slack fro the excellent show they had given us, but not forget that there are those who are in poverty, should have been given more to life.

But then again, 230 million people have been lifted out of poverty in the past 15/30 (can’t remember which,) years.

You know regarding the cheating at the opening ceremony,
We did it too in Sydney, back in 2000.

I think it's fairly big in the media (haven't came in contact with the news for like the last week), but it was confirmed that the entire performance by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was faked.

Instead the lovely sound we heard during the 2000 Sydney Olympics was actually a pre-recorded version playing... At it was played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

That puts us into the position that we're (or at least Sydney) that's similar to China.
Although we did it to sound good.
They did it because the girl wasn't pretty enough.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread...

EDIT: I do remember someone telling me, though I can't confirm it, that one of the gymnasts representing China was actually 12-13 years of age. So China actually remade her passport changing her year of birth so that she would be officially 14 years of age...

That and someone also told me that they actually forced a lot of the local Chinese to come and spectate. Again, someone told me this but I can't confirm, that the amount of local Chinese attending the events weren't actually as high as China wanted.

So, China made (though through bribery or what method I wouldn't have a clue) some of its citizens attend the games to show the world that the people of China were very into the games.

Though that sounds kind of.... Fake?

We'll never hear it in Australia.

God forbid we actually get told something from the biased-media-more-biased-than-communist-news-in-China that doesn't make this country look angelic

Oh and for the Symphony thing, there's quite a few articles now looking on it. The Sunday Age: "Within days of NSW Premier Morris Lemma making unwise cracks about Melbourne being left off the World Monopoly Board, The Sunday Age can reveal that the Sydney Symphony Orchestra mimed key parts of its performance at the opening of the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000."

"Other foreign media's coverage of the Beijing Olympics so far has been relatively objective, rounded, positive and well-meaning. Smiles for smiles and goodwill for goodwill. It is called desirable interaction. Knowledge, understanding and goodwill form the foundation of friendship. And during the Beijing Olympic Games, the friendship between China and other countries of the world has been reinforced.

The Beijing Olympic Games has won accolades from around the world as one of the important reasons is that China has really marked social progress. At the same time, worldwide praise will also boost the Chinese people's confidence to "achieve greater progress". The Beijing Games will further prove that China's development and progress will benefit world peace and progress.

All in all, as China presents to the world a high-calibre Olympic Games with hard-to-miss Chinese characteristics, the Chinese people are becoming more magnanimous and confident."

- China Daily (translated by The Age) [August 24th 2008]

Had to type this up for something in school, so I thought I might as well share it. It's a translation that The Age did in their What they're saying about the Olympics feature.

Out of the four (The New York Times, Jamaica Gleaner, China Daily and The Times of India):

The New York Times focused firstly about China beating the US, the somehow moved onto world economics and then onto how Asia is becoming more powerful.

The Jamaica Gleaner focused mainly of Usain Bolt's achievements and how "...Usain Bolt symbolises all that China could have hoped for from these Games..."

China Daily is being... The China Daily.

And The Times of India's article can be summed up to their first sentence "Do we need the Olympics any more?" (Oh and they used the word 'uber' which made me laugh for some reason...)

Sorry that I'm turning this thread into an International Politics thread.

Why couldn't they have the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra instead?

Geez... Stupid Sydney/New South Welshman! So pig headed!

taht thing about the audience

they were getting people to fill out the seats in the venues since even though they 'sold-out', a lot of them were empty in the venues like gymnasium and all that, so they got people to fill those seats to make it less lonely.

some factors though included rainy weather at the start and the tanks outside >.>

@kava: ah yes...Ninety Eighty-Four...now they only need a Hate Week and an underground chamber of deep dark secrets..

but in terms of the 'faking' (some of it anyway), you kinda do have to make sure that, when you're on the world stage and all, that nothing goes embarassingly wrong like say the violin strings snapping in the middle of the performance.

the fireworks i could understand say if the weather suddenly changed (i did hear something that the airspace was off-limits or something, that it was somehow related to the pre-recorded?). The girl thing isn't the case for that last argument though, just controlling to wear a facade for the world.

Artemis
08-26-2008, 03:20 PM
I'm pretty sure China built one of them chambers already.
And wasn't there the whole thing about China almost boasting about the fact that they could alter the weather via launching various forms of missiles that altered the rain patterns to their favour?

Back to Australia...
So, anyone hear about them sheep n' cattle?
<.<;

*realises that talking about China's dodginess if far more interesting...*

@Kava: If can't have the MSO instead of the SSO because they're supposed to be on the same level. If Sydney needs to hire the MSO, what does that say about the SSO? They're supposed to be both grand international orchestras. I can't detect if you were being sarcastic... <.<;

Well.. they do concerts... for hours on end. It shouldn't make a difference. :P

And About Airspace... its in mainland China... smack bang in the middle. I find that hard to believe that they exceeded the limits. Taiwan is way off and so is Japan and the Koreas.

I'm pretty sure China built one of them chambers already.
