Hey, it aired last night on YTV, so its probably available on YouTube somewhere, though I'm no good at finding them.

When Byakuya did the line about ichigo being slow, even though it was changed a little I found it pretty convincing. Ugh, but I wish th renji said howl zabimaru instead of roar, this takes getting used to.

rukia still sucks at showing any kind of emotion in her voice. Thought everyone else did pretty well.

i saw it and i can get used to roar zabimaru cuz howling is more of a wolf thing but i still dont like their voices

Well done!

Ok... first impressions (I'm part 1 in at this point)
Renji's voice bears the most weakness at the moment, his voice I thought was fine in last ep, now appears grating and his lines are too overdramatised.
I disagree that Rukia is showing no feeling still, she's coming off fine in this ep as far as I can tell...

Part 2 in, I'm liking Rukia's emotional lines even better... before I thought that Rukia's lines were poor because they were delivered with measured feelingless tones (mostly) but it seems to mirror that of Byakuyas, so rather than being a VA mess up, im chosing to look at it as more of a stylistic thing on behalf of the Kuchiki's... well thats jus my 2 cents.

Ok, Urahara? Absolutely perfect. Definitely got it down. And hell, I know I know what happens but I can't WAIT for ep18...!!!

the problem I had was that she didn't seem to have any kind of desperation or urgency in her voice for the first half. The voice itself is fine, i just think she needs to act it out better.

Renji's voice: OK, just ok.
Rukia's voice: she didn't sound desperate or angry enough in this episode... which she should've.
Byakuya: Meh, it was alright. Still think David Kayes would be better, tho, but I know he's not in California, so I guess this is the best I can settle to.

I tough this episode was pretty good the emoution in rukia's voice was find once again i'll say the bleach dub is one of the best dubs going.

I haven't been watching the dubs lately, but I got a chance to catch this episode. The way Renji pronounces the "Abarai" was just weird. As for Byakuya's VA it was alright and I was hoping it was more deep and with a serious tone. I finally got to hear Kon's VA and it was just horrid to me. It's probably because I don't watch the dubs often of course. And I agree that the dubs doesn't make it emotional like the original does =P

lol, if only I could read faster, then I owuld watch subed bersion, I mean I want to konw whats ahppenin and yet the US and other contries are always so damned slow at producing full seasons in dubing before showing it to the public, I mean hell US dose 24- 30 esp seasons unless its shown daily its like WTF?! set the whole section out and then ship it, then if idiots at the US end would go wow maybe we should air this so that people wont get pissed and destroy us. then would would get somewhere.

I liked this episode much more than the least. Renji had better emotion in his voice and finaly got the correct attitude. Bayakuya's voice could have been a little deeper and more serious, but still it's deffinatly good enough. The guy who plays him has realy got the right idea! Ichigo's and Rukia's are as good as ever plus Urahara's emotion was desplayed perfectly. It's just a shame Renji's comand has been changed to "Roar" instead of the origional "Howl". I think "Howl" makes it sound much better but at least it's not somthing like "Sequeak like a mouse!" :Haha.

I'm deffinatly looking forward to the next few episodes and the soul Sociaty arc in general. With the way things are going I'm very sure they will get just about all of the voices to a decent standard to say the least with minimal, if none at all, changes.

I don't know, I guess "enough" is a relative term... I was satisfied with her peformance this ep... When she has her first major speech around the 3 min mark I was impressed, and later when she's really trying to defend Ichigo from death... I was surprised how her VA had developed.
Shes definitely a weak link in the VA cast, but since this ep she's moved much higher up in my estimation, and I place her above Renji since his performance in ep 17. But again, thats just me

im mostly comparing it to the sub version and the original voice actors emotions for that sceen. She definently didnt do bad, but in the jap version she sounds really angry and sad and emo and all that. But in the dubbed version she dosn't show as much emotion, meh, im probably just being too picky.

As to the issue of Renji's release command, he says "hoeru" in the original Japanese. "Hoeru" can be translated as "to roar" or "to howl", so it's still correct. I've seen many subs that used "roar" instead of "howl" in their translations anyway, so it doesn't really bother me.

I am annoyed about the fact that the US distributors are slow and dont get everything as fast as in japan, I understand it being aired weekly there thats good but here with our being the stupid US we show everything else and its mother and edit everything to be "politically correct" so we dont show it as often as other places and we screw everything up WTF just make it directly from Japan's version dont edit everything.(you have to admit the US EDITS everything they get)

zoc zoc... very true... but i dont like to compare it to the original in that great a detail, different voice actors are gonna have different ways of doing things and generally the japanese do angry \ emotive shouting etc so much better than we do... because it can sound so forced when we do it, hehe!

When watching it, I felt like all the actors did the acting well enough (i.e. right tones), however I think the actual sound of the voice of Renji in the dubbed version doesn't fit him well. It's hard to describe, and I'm not saying the voice actor sucks or anything, I just don't think his voice fits well with renji (I prefer the deeper voice for renji as is in the japanese). But still, it is nice to hear the show in English.

I personally think that renji's and Ichigo's voices don't fit them, but on the other hand, Byakuya's voice really fit him ! cold and arrogant just the japanese Byakuya=)

They really haven't edited them. Subbed eps are around 24 minuets, and the dubbed are around 22 minuets. Thats without commercials, and I'm comparing DBs to CWs versions

Thats odd. I've seen nothing edited. Maybe they slightly speed up the animation and sync the dub to it so that we can't tell the difference.

Well, Renji's voice is god awful. Seriously... it's high pitched, horrible, and he even pronounced his name wrong.

You can't expect them to pronounce things excactly like the way they do in Japanese. There are bound to be some minor changes in pronunciation, since this is the dub after all.

Renji's the only one giving me a problem. He puts too much emphasis on the a-BAR-ai instead of giving each syllable its own emphasis. I am not going crazy over that, but it does start to get on my nerves. Its the same thing when he pronounces Captain Kuchiki's name as KOOTCH-ki w/o the slightest trace of the i. And yeah...he does tend to Over-Drama-Tize His Lines (do William Shatner impression).

Neither. It is a-ba-rai with none of the syllables getting emphasized more than the others. There is no BAR in Abarai, its simply a ba-rai. Sorry if I'm starting to sound confusing. It would be a lot easier if I could just input the hiragana.

Yes, I suppose that is what makes the name pronunciation different in the English dub. In most cases in the Japanese language, every syllable in a word are emphasised equally. However, when it comes to English translations, there are certain syllables in words that are emphasised more than others, making that one syllable stand out from the rest.

You know... now that I watch it over and over again... I can see where Ichigo's more agressive side comes out. At one point or another I actually thought he was almost posessed... seeing this for the first time.
Kinda like how hollow Ichigo acts no? A little too agressive and crazy

gotta love foreshadowing ^^
