Well, i haven't seen this thread anywhere, so i decided to make it.
Anything regarding the nfl can be discussed here- teams, schedules, games, scouting, whatever.

My favorite team is the Falcons, btw.
Anyway, i saw the first two wildcard games today. I think the Colts got lucky, since if they played a team whose offense actually showed up, those 3 interceptions would have lethal, imo.
Seahawks- Cowboys. Wow, what a game, it all came down to a messed up snap. I was really rooting for the cowboys, but both teams played pretty well.

Prediction for Sunday: Pats 27 Jets 17
Eagles 34 Giants 20

Any predications for next week?

Well I am a die hard pats fan(since I was like 5 so no bandwagon hopping :P).

So I am glad to see them win big over the jets.
Can't wait for next weeks games.
Colts 17 Ravens 20
Patriots 27 Chargers 20 (all I know is pats will win :P)
Eagles 17 Saints 28
Seahawks 10 Bears 17

I am really bad at picking scores usually, but pretty good with games most the time. :P

M_Ghey
01-08-2007, 04:59 AM
So i am the only one who thinks that Colts will win? I would have picked Baltimore, but i was impressed with the way they were able to shut down Kansas City's running game. I think if they can score early, and make the Ravens pass, they can pull it out. Never underestimate Peyton Manning.

Analog
01-08-2007, 06:11 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if the colts won vs the ravens, but I don't see peyton winning games throwing that many picks. Also even if they win in the divisional playoffs they will lose no matter who they face in the AFC chmpionship(it will be the pats hopefully :P). I just feel peyton will choke or the defense won't hold like it did yesterday.

M_Ghey
01-08-2007, 06:16 AM
Well, let's say they beat beat the Ravens. So, they play the Pats or the Chargers. They alraedy beat the Patriots this season, and i don't see the Colts losing to a team like the Patriots. I mean, if they play well, the pats' defense won't be able to do much. Now id they play the Chargers, then i would have to say that would lose in that game. The Chargers have the best running back in the league - an automatic 00 yards versus the Colts, and the passing game is good too. If their defense can hold the Colts under 30 points, then the Chargers should be able to win.

E-a-g-l-e-s...EAGLES!!!!! Man im glad they won...Garcia has been doin a great job ever since McNabb's been absent...it was a close game wit the giants.. a lil too close for me but we played smart...im excited for next week's game...its gonna be good..we can reap some revenge on New Orleans...my prediction: Eagles-24, New Orleans-17

An Eagles fan, huh? Congrats on the win. It should be a great game next week. :P

it seems everyone here is a fan of a team that's in the playoffs right now, except for me... My poor Falcons, now that you fired Mora, what coach will you hire to replace him? And will you finally draft some great o-linemen to protect Vick better? And why are our receivers so incompetent...*gets a headache from all the questioning*

my team didn't get into the playoffs finished 6-10 (better than my dads team *cough* browns *cough*), and the head coach left for 'bama... i hope culpepper gets better cuz watching Harrington and lemon twords the end of the season was painful.

The Dolphins really aren't a bad team. They just always start out seasons badly, it seems. MAybe a new head coach will help them.

I would have to say I strongly disagree with what you said on the colts beating the patriots if they face each other. I am sorry but have you seen what has happened to the colts in the playoffs versus the patriots when they were supposedly going to score all over them. I am sorry but in the regular season game the colts barely won and they should have lost. The patriots made about 5-6 turnovers that were just errors, not forced, plus they are playing better. Sorry but Peyton won't go to the superbowl.

In my opinion the falcons should get rid of Vick and his huge contract and use Schuab(or however its spelled). Vick will never win a superbowl, he can't pass well enough imo.

M_Ghey
01-09-2007, 08:43 AM
Well, the Colts do have a bad history in the playoffs, it just depends on their minset...
Get rid of Vick? Blasphemy! With our wide receivers, having a pure passing QB isn't such a great idea. And Vick can pass, trust me. He was amazing in the Steelers and Bengals game, he just needs better o-linemen to give him more time and so that he doesn't get nailed every play.

Analog
01-09-2007, 08:49 AM
Well he doesn't need time if he is always running around out of the pocket, he needs to learn to stay there. IMO they should give up on vick, they have tried it long enough and have failed. I know it will never happen, I just think they should move in another direction.

M_Ghey
01-09-2007, 08:55 AM
It worked 2 seasons ago, didn't it? The Falcons are just inconsistent and lack great wide receivers. And a lot of times Vick has to run around because the o-line didn't give him enough time to set up and throw. If he has time, he can pass more accurately and run when he should, not when he is just trying to make something, anything happen. With the new coach, i am eager to see what will happen next season.

Analog
01-09-2007, 09:11 AM
Yeah it will be interesting but I stick to what I said before. I think vick isn't a pocket passer and won't/doesn't want to stay in pocket, he would rather be like a running back, which you don't need your quarterback to be.
It will be interesting with Petrino(thats the coach right?).

M_Ghey
01-09-2007, 09:19 AM
Yes, he is. Don't know how to spell his name, though. Vick to the Falcons is like Favre is to the Packers, at least mentally. In the team's mind, he is the leader. Every time Shaub plays, he loses, and he is not really a leader, Vick can make that one play to spark the tema and make the tem win. I just wish he learned how to hold the ball and didn't fumble on game-winning drives. (omg, browns game...)

COLTS!!!! The Colts will go all the way to the superbowl this year and will win and then i will be able to laugh at all you for making fun of the Colts and saying that they wouldn't win. My Prediction for the next game:Colts 24 Ravens 17

M_Ghey

The Colts maybe having a good year, but i cannot see them beating teams like San Diego and Chicago. Their defense played well versus KC, but KC's offense never showed up.

M_Ghey
01-09-2007, 10:47 PM
What are you talking about? Larry Johnson was held to like 30 yards. The Chiefs had 0 first downs in the first half. 0! What was the last team to do that to Kansas City, tha thas one of the best running backs in the league?

Calamity Taco

Packers' fan here... that's been pretty painful for the past few years, but... watcha gonna do? They almost made it again this year... I love Favre, btw. He's one of my favorite players ever. It'll be sad when he goes because he's said he'll just fade away, and not do anything else. Anyhoo...

I'm also a Bengals fan, because of Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh, former Oregon State players (I'm a huge Beavers fan; Corvallis is only a 10-15 minute drive away.) It was very disappointing to see the way their season ended. They were doing really good for a while, there, too...

So, of the teams left, I'm rooting for Seattle and San Diego. I doubt Seattle will get much further this year, however, so after them I'd want to see New Orleans in the Super Bowl. No offense to Cowboys fans, btw, but I was really glad when they didn't make it. I don't like Bill Parcells or Terrell Owens, so there you go. Anyhoo... my predictions for this weekend:

Baltimore over Indianapolis, 20-10: Indianapolis had a good game last weekend, but they've been sliding. Baltimore, meanwhile, is a monster.

San Diego over New England, 28 to 20: New England is good this year, but I don't see too many teams beating the Chargers at this point in the season, especially with LT. Rivers isn't bad, either. Then again, the Patriots do seem to have a thing for winning post season games, whereas the Chargers lost in the first round last year, didn't they? I wouldn't be surprised by a reversal.

Chicago over Seattle, 23 to 20: Though I hate to say it. Seattle has been getting better, while Chicago really has not (they got blown out by Green Bay in the last game, though I didn't see that game; did they have their back ups in, or something? Also, those come from behind wins...) but I don't like the Seahawks' chances in this one.

New Orleans over Philadelphia, 28 to 17: Though I like how Jeff Garcia and the Eagles have been playing, and I don't particularly care for how the Saints have been playing (except for that win over Dallas... ;)) I think that New Orleans will probably turn around here. Unless they don't. They haven't been playing good.

Anyhoo, the scores I gave are kinda... not really based on much at all. I just felt like I should give scores too. Anyhoo...

And why does everyone think the Colts would lose?

M_Ghey

The KC offense did suck, but there still needs to be some ccredit given to the D. They can beat the Ravens next week if their defense plays well, i think. But i don't think they can win if they olay the Chargers later.

I think that the Colts are going to lose because, for one thing, they are playing at Baltimore. Secondly, Baltimore has only lost three games this season. I have not watched any of those games, but I'm under the impression that they're really good, particularly on defense (which is usually the case with them.) Finally, and most importantly, I think thy will beat the Colts because at the end of the season, the Colts had lost five of their last eight, hadn't they? That's three out of eight games. Not lookin' pretty. Whereas Baltimore only lost three games on the season, if I am not mistaken. I could be, though. EDIT: I said that twice... sorry. Anyhoo...

You make great points. In fact, you are right about pretty much everything you said. I picked the Colts because they are my upset pick next week, i usually like to make one. They should not win, stat or logic wise, but i definetly think that they are one of the few teams that has a chance when playing at Baltimore.

Analog
01-10-2007, 06:00 AM
Even though I picked the ravens I wouldn't be surprised to see the colts win. But they still couldn't make it past the AFC championship game.

Not sure if someone said this but they said they wouldn't make it past the afc and if they did they wouldn't beat the bears. I have to say the bears will not be in the super bowl. I think for the NFC the winner of the Saints v Eagles game, goes to the SB to rep the nfc.

M_Ghey
01-10-2007, 06:04 AM
The Bears can beat anybody on their good day and lose to anybody on their bad days. If they don't have any bad days, they make the SuperBowl, imo.

Analog
01-10-2007, 07:15 AM
I think the Rex Grossman is bad... He was solid the first 5-6weeks but after that he has been terrible. Do you really see them beating the Saints or Eagles??

M_Ghey
01-10-2007, 07:27 AM
I can see them beating the Saints. I can kinda see them beating the Eagles. But then again, they can lose to both, depending on their QB. Sure, Grossman hasn't been playing very well lately, but they are not the first seed in the NFC for nothing. Their defense is for real. If you can keep a team from scoring TD's, you can win even with Grossman as QB.

Analog
01-10-2007, 07:36 AM
Yeah but even if you can stop them, you can't win in the playoffs with a quarterback that makes mistakes. One or two mistakes could cost them the game. Also the NFC is really weak which made it easy for them to be #1. Also the saits/eagles started to come on stronger at the end while the bears seemed to hit there peak.

M_Ghey
01-10-2007, 07:42 AM
The Colts won in the playoffs wit ha QB that made mistakes. :D
But what you say is true. I think that the Eagles can beat the Bears, i am not so sure about the Saints. The Eagles are on a monster roll.
Everyone forgot about Seattle...So, do you think the Seahawks will beat the Bears?

Analog
01-10-2007, 07:58 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if the seahawks won. But I also feel its hard to pick them the way they have been playing lately. But if Hasselback and Alexander get on a roll the stand a chance. Hasselback needs to take advantage of all his skilled WR.

M_Ghey
01-10-2007, 08:21 AM
Hasselbeck hasn't been on a roll for a while, but you never know. I just hope they don't win the NFC, cuz they don't deserve to.

Analog
01-10-2007, 08:43 AM
Yeah I know he hasn't but I feel he needs to take advantage of all his good WRs. He has to many for them to go without doing something.

M_Ghey
01-10-2007, 09:41 PM
And they also have a good RB in Alexander. They rae dangerous, definetly, but they are not explosive, so i don't think they can make the Super Bowl.

Analog
01-10-2007, 10:42 PM
Yeah I do not see them going to the super bowl, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them upset the bears.

M_Ghey
01-11-2007, 12:20 AM
The Bears are hard to predict, they can be upset by any team in the league, bu t again they can also beat any team.
What do you think is the best team that didn't make the playoffs? My pick: the Tenessee Titans, Ever since Young became QB when they were 0-3 or so, he has been excellent and almost took them to the playoffs.

Five of last eight?
what you talkin bout they've only lost 4 games this whole season. Also you have to look at the colts history they always come through when nobody thinks they can i mean one time they made 3 touchdowns in the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter to win the game. Man i just know the colts will win.

some of the ravens players were talking smack... just need to find out what they said... i thinking of changing my pick to the colts, because i'm not a fan of the ravens (never have since that asshat named art modell moved the original browns to baltimore)

as for the best team left of the playoffs, i think it was the Bengals, they certainly have a lot of talent in palmer, ocho cinco, T. J. Houshmandzadeh, and rudi johnson.

Sorry, i didn't see it at first.
Hmm, what team do you huys think is the biggest surprise and letdown of the season?

Surprise - The Saints. Everyone knew that Bush and Brees were good. People admitted that the Saints will be good on offense, but they still won't be much better than average. They proved everyone wrong. A truly fasinating season for those guys.

Disappointment - The Falcons. They are my favorite team and they got off to a great start, but, once agin, everything collapsed in the second half of the season. Injuries on defense, dropped passes, inconsistencies all around, inability to score in the red zone, all these factors made the Falcons just be an average team in the end of the season. I just think they have too much talent to be subpar, maybe the new coach will help...

Rorschach
01-11-2007, 05:40 AM
surprise: Saints/Eagles
the saints because people expected the saints to be an offensive threat but nothing on defense, plus the fact that New Orleans is still mess in areas. Eagles because when Mcnabb went down everyone thought that the eagles where done for the season, but Garcia has played very good and Westbrook has been sensational.

Disappointment: Miami
Miami because after a 9-7 season and the addition of Daunte Culpepper would be boost to a bad corps of quarterbacks with a good receiving corps (a sexy superbowl pick at the time). despite the stellar season by jason taylor, the dolphins never played up to expectations because culpepper's bad knee a bad o-line, brown got hurt and that harrington fizzled after the 21-0 win over the pats.

Analog
01-11-2007, 06:43 AM
@rukongai Yes they only had 4 losses. The colts always come through when no one expects them to... lol(couldn't help it). If only they could do that in the playoffs, since they clearly don't.

M_Ghey
01-11-2007, 06:44 AM
@ Semprini - I agree, the Eagles have been doing exxtremely well since Garcia took over, they are playing possibly the best football in the NFC.

Speaking of the Saints: do any of you think that their season would be different if the Texans got Bush?

SLVR

Analog
01-11-2007, 07:54 AM
I think it would have been different because, not of his play but the whole teams mind set. But one player that changed them the most in Colston(WR).

Surprise: Saints for the reasons you said.

Disappointment: Dolphins, I am not sad they did bad, nor surprised, but they were hyped by everyone so they had a bad disappointing season based on expectations.

M_Ghey
01-11-2007, 08:14 AM
Well, the Panthers didn't have a great season because they only have one real weapon offensively: Steve Smith. They have a not-bad running game, and an ok QB. They lack explosive players, imo.

Analog
01-11-2007, 10:50 AM
Yeah a lot of people picked the Panthers to go all the way and Delhomme was shown as not very good. They need more WR then just steve smith, and I think deangelo williams will be good at some point.

01-11-2007, 05:59 PM
i remember that two of the greatest things happened, it was when i was playing Counter Strike and we where discussing football (particularly how peyton sucks against the pats). god i miss playing CS... as for the Panthers, yea they where a disappointment this year, delhomme played like a mediocre QB and the running game wasn't there. the Bucs too because they had a great year last year with Cadillac williams, but the poor play of their QB's really hurt them and Cadillac all but disappeared this year.

M_Ghey
01-11-2007, 09:15 PM
The Bucs really were awful on offense this year. At least that make sit easy to improve next year. They need an star WR besides Galloway, and maybe a new QB.

M_Ghey
01-12-2007, 12:36 AM
There are lots of QBs that won't win a superbowl. Are you sying that Dan Marino was a bad player? I know Vick can win games, all he needs to learn is how to stay consistent. I don't mind if he is all about himself, so is Chad Johnson, and he had the most receiving yards in the regular season.

Rorschach
01-13-2007, 03:47 AM
i wouldn't say it's just Vick is inconstancy, play calling was, and the play of his receivers. if the falcons where to put in schaub, well we wouldn't really know, he did have a gutsy performance against the pats couple years ago.

there might be an NFL game in london in the upcoming season...

Dolphins ticketed for 2007 regular-season game in London

Jan. 11, 2007
By Howard Balzer
The Sports Xchange/SportsLine.com

The Miami Dolphins don't have a head coach, but whoever it is will be coaching a regular-season game in Great Britain next season.

The Sports Xchange has learned that Miami will be the "home" team during the 2007 season for a game likely to be played in London's Wembley Stadium.

The Dolphins' opponent will be either the New York Giants or Buffalo Bills, but sources told the Sports Xchange the league is leaning toward the Giants. The official announcement naming London as the site is expected early next week, while the announcement of the two teams is planned for Super Bowl week in Miami.

Wembley Stadium has undergone a renovation and will seat 90,000 fans for the game. The famous stadium was the site of nine international preseason games from 1983-1993. The other option is 83,000-seat Twickenham Stadium.

Earlier this week, the NFL announced that six teams (Buffalo, Kansas City, Miami, New Orleans, San Francisco and Seattle) were being considered as the team that gives up a home game during the 2007 season with the site to be either Great Britain or Germany. Over the next 16 seasons, each of the league's 32 teams will participate in a regular season game outside the United States.

The only other such game was on Oct. 2, 2005 when Arizona played San Francisco in Mexico City.

How many times has Shcuab actually played in a regular season game... once or twice??

Anyways I could care less what stats players get as long as they do what they need to do for the team and help win games.

Yeah there will be a game in london since the NFL has decided one NFL game each season will be played on international territory.

M_Ghey
01-13-2007, 08:51 PM

I must say, Adam Vinatieri did a great job against Baltimore. 5-5 in Field Goals with a long of 51, which I believe is a record in playoff games. Good job colts getting rid of Mike Vanderjagt and taking Vinatieri in the offseason...one of few good moves by them. But for them to even have a chance in the next game Payton Manning needs to step it up a bit.

M_Ghey
01-14-2007, 06:09 AM
Yes, he tied the record for most FGs in a playoff game.
Well, if they paly the Pats, than i am picking them to win, hands down. THey already beat them in the regular season...If they play the Chargers...well, that dpends on how the Chargers play the Pats.

Analog
01-14-2007, 06:22 AM
Well I have to say I think the winner of the pats v chargers game will beat the colts. I think the pats will win, I think they can beat the colts for a few reasons... 1. Its playoffs and Brady=money in playoffs. 2. Last time they played New England was still trying to get accustomed to all the changes from before and they made 5 turnovers but only lost by 7 points. 3. In the playoffs Peyton has been off and in years passed he chokes.

M_Ghey
01-14-2007, 06:29 AM
Payton has played poorly in the last 2 games playoff games...and Pats won both times because their defense is playing sensationally. I think they can take on the Pats...and maybe the Chargers.
Does anyone wanna bet small amounts of points on playoff games to make it more interesting? If so, tell me who you pick in the next 2 games and we'll see.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the seahawks win. If they play a good game they can win. Also if Grossman plays bad they have a great chance to win. I just feel the bears D can atleast keep them close and they will be able to score enough to win, but with the players the seahawks have, I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to the NFC championship.

M_Ghey
01-14-2007, 08:23 AM
The Seahawks alraedy lost to the Bears by like 30 this season. Also, the Seahawks are not explosive as a team, you need to hbe explosive or have an explosive game to beat the Bears...or you need Grossman to throw 3 picks. :D

Hm.. seems my Colts are matched up with the Pats yet again. No way they're going to ruin our year again. Now that Bob Sanders is back we have some kind of viable run defence, though it's a week-to-week type of deal. On the other side, it's only a matter of time before the Bear's weakest link falls apart and breaks the machine down. That and I just like a good story like the Saints' run.

Okay, they lost four of their last eight games during the regular season. They were still considered to be on a slump at the end. Also, they have a history of losing post season games, particularly the division championship game. What happened to them last year? When was the last time they went to the Super Bowl?

It's nothing personal; I just didn't think they'd win. I will probably root for them over the Patriots this weekend, because I am tired of seeing the patriots in the Super Bowl. After that, though, it depends upon who wins the NFC divisional championship. If it's the Bears, I'll root for the Colts. If it's the Saints, however, I feel it would be an amazing story, considering their record from last year, and what happened to their city and their fans, if the Saints went on to win it all. Personally, it pulls at my heart strings. Gets me right there. *points to heart* Anyhoo...

Dang, I was disappointed when both Seattle and San Diego lost in close games. Particularly San Diego, who kinda just fell apart at the end, there, when they were up by freaking eight points. Damn.

Anyhoo, my picks for this weekend, which may be a little bit of wishful thinking:

Colts over Patriots... 24 to 20, let's say.
Saints over Bears... 27 to 20. We'll see.

M_Ghey

Vinatieri is definetly money. :P
I was really impressed with the Colts defense the last couple of weeks, though. Usually when an offensive based team's offense is doing bad, the team collapses. In the Colts' case, the defense stepped it up big time.

Analog
01-17-2007, 05:12 AM
I was impressed when they stopped LJ but I am not high on the other parts of the Chiefs offense. Also I think the Ravens have a terrible offense, sorry but McNair is a little past his prime. I think it will be a close game that comes down to the fourth quarter and who do you think to come up in the 4th, my money would be one Brady.

Vinatieri who?!?!? Its all about Gostkowski :P

M_Ghey
01-17-2007, 05:18 AM
Brady is definetly a better 4th quarter QB> But nah, Vinatieri is just way too talente, might be the best FG kicker in the NFL, probably is.
The way for the Colts to win is to get a lead early and hold it, so that it is more than a one posession game in their favor in the 4th quarter.

Analog
01-17-2007, 06:21 AM
Agreed. I think Vinatieri is the most clutch kicker in NFL history. For the colts they need to be up my more then two scores at the start of the fourth, otherwise Brady will bring NE back.

The Saints are dangerous because now everyone knows that they can run really well, but they also have an excellent QB, and if that weren't enough, they have great receivers, including the surprise of the season, the 7th round pick Marquis Colston (sp?).

My heart goes out to San Diego as well. I think that Philip Rivers is a good young QB, though, and LT should be around next season still, right? And the defense should still be decent next year. They just dropped the ball in that last game this year, however. Plenty of chances to win. Although I think that unnecessary roughness call on the Charger when it was like 4th and something for the Pats was complete and utter bullocks. Although there probably were questionable calls that went the Chargers' way, too, I don't remember them.

Personally, I am picking the Colts over the Pats, because although I'm fairly indifferent to the Colts, I don't like the Pats much at all anymore. They win too much. They've become what Dallas and San Fransisco used to be, and I didn't like those teams back then, either. I don't like dynasties very much, I guess. Unless maybe it were my team, which doesn't seem to happen all that often...

I dunno, maybe. It should be a good game nevertheless. It will be fun to watch, since i got bets with you and twi. :P
I just hope the next 2 playoff games will be as good as the last 3 playoff games. (colts game wasn't as good)

lol. It just made me laugh that all of the chargers were crying about how they were being disrespected when they had been dancing all day over nothing. Not like it matters anyways, I just find it funny. All I can say is that the chargers can enjoy watching the AFC championship at home.

M_Ghey

lol, the 1st and 2nd seeds in the AFC got out pretty fast, haven't they?
Just the opposite in the NFC.

Analog
01-18-2007, 06:52 AM
Yeah... I think its because the AFC has the top teams that were close in skill, while the NFC only has one or two good teams.

M_Ghey

True, The Seahawks have such a weak division, it's not even funny. If they were in any AFC division, they'd be lucky to get wildcard.

Analog
01-18-2007, 07:20 AM
Well if you look at there final record I don't think they could have even gotten wildcard... plus they would have had a harder schedule.

I think that's what everyone's been saying: the AFC is better than the NFC. I was reading some article about how the NFC's best was simply mediocre. I mean, the Packers almost made it this year (and I love them, but I gotta admit... heh. They haven't particularly been hot for a while.) Remember that three teams from the same league made it into the NFC playoffs; Dallas, Philly, and New York. I'm just pulling for the Saints now because they're my favorite team left. Anyhoo...

True, there were so many teams that won les than 10 games that either made or almost made the playoffs. It is a lot tougher to win in the AFC, since there are so many more elite teams that stay good, and new great teams like the Ravens emerging.

New random NFL topic: Worst and Best uniform in the NFL. What are they?

Best: Bears. Old school, clean, effective. Nothing too fancy, solid design.
Worst: The Bengals. Talk about overdoing it. The black stripes on the helmet...and the rest of the uniform kill me. Ugly, i say.

well the dolphins hired a new coach name is Cam Cameron

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Cam Cameron will try to succeed where Nick Saban failed -- with the Miami Dolphins.

Miami concluded a two-week coaching search Friday, hiring Cameron, the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator the past five seasons.

Cameron signed a four-year contract to replace Saban, who left for Alabama after a 6-10 season. Saban missed the playoffs in both years with Miami, whose roster needs an overhaul to fix an aging defense and a feeble offense.

Cameron went 18-37 as a head coach at Indiana, then directed a high-powered attack in San Diego. Led by the NFL's most valuable player, LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers ranked fourth in the league in offense this season and finished 14-2, best in the NFL.

A news conference was scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday.

He will be the Dolphins' fourth coach in nine seasons. It has been a frustrating a stretch of instability for a franchise that had the same coach -- Don Shula -- for 26 years.

The Dolphins interviewed at least 12 other candidates in their most extensive coaching search since the franchise's first season in 1966. Among those still being considered midweek were Miami defensive coordinator Dom Capers, former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora, Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey and former Alabama coach Mike Shula, son of ex-Dolphins coach Don Shula.

Cameron, 45, inherits one of the NFL's largest coaching staffs and Mueller, who might be given more responsibility under the new regime. He also might inherit defensive coordinator Capers, who was offered a new three-year contract in that role last week.

Cameron first interviewed with the Dolphins shortly after Saban quit and became available when the Chargers were eliminated from the playoffs last Sunday. He has been in South Florida since Wednesday, when he began a second round of interviews. At midday Friday, he returned to the team complex accompanied by general manager Randy Mueller, then met with management for more than four hours before the deal was announced.

An offensive-minded coach appealed to the Dolphins, who averaged 16.3 points per game in 2006, their lowest figure since 1967.

Cameron also interviewed this month for head coaching jobs with the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons. Arizona hired Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, and Atlanta hired Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

Before joining the Chargers in 2002, Cameron was head coach at his alma mater, Indiana, from 1997 to 2001. He never finished a season above .500 but coached All-American quarterback Antwaan Randle El, and in 2000 the Hoosiers ranked seventh in the nation in rushing.

Cameron played basketball at Indiana for Bobby Knight and football for Lee Corso and Sam Wyche.

Saban left the Dolphins after denying for five weeks that he was interested in the Alabama job. His disappointing two-year tenure extended the Dolphins' playoff drought to five consecutive seasons, the longest stretch in franchise history.

The Dolphins haven't reached the AFC championship game since Wayne Huizenga became majority owner in 1994, and they're coming off only their third losing year since 1969.

With Daunte Culpepper still struggling to recover from reconstructive knee surgery in 2005, Miami remains unsettled at quarterback, a troublesome position since Dan Marino retired seven years ago. The team needs upgrades in almost every other area.
i hope he does a good job

Yeah the dolphins hired him and the raiders got rejected by the coach they made an offer to LOL, I would have to say that coach was smart.

Rorschach
01-20-2007, 03:50 AM
who would want to coach the raiders when al davis is still the owner, it's a complete mess in Oakland.

Analog
01-20-2007, 03:52 AM
Yeah Oakland is not going anywhere soon. Not only do no players want to go there but no coach wants to coach there. I wouldn't be surprised if they get rejected by the first pick in the draft.

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 03:47 PM
I expect the raiders to focus on drafting many offensive players, since they have a #3 ranked defense, which is realy good, but their offense is abysmal.

Rorschach
01-20-2007, 03:52 PM
just because they had good defense this year doesn't mean they'll be any good next year (injuries and such is a reason). i wonder who the raiders a gonna pick for their number one.

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 03:56 PM
THey might go fror Calvin Johnson, since they might feel that they can't rely on Moss anymore. Or they will pick a QB.

Rorschach
01-20-2007, 05:38 PM
The raiders need a QB, they're probably gonna take the converted Naval Canon from LSU (JaMarcus(sp?) Russel) as their pick (as long as he wants to play for oakland). Johnson might actually be a good pick since he had insane numbers with an erratic QB.

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 05:59 PM
And imagine Johnson with a good QB-he could become the best receiver in the league in a couple of years.

Analog
01-20-2007, 07:05 PM
Well first they need someone who can actually throw the ball, no matter who the reciever is. I expect to see them take a QB. Either russel or Quinn. Probably Russel, but who knows if he will actually sign with the raiders.

Rorschach
01-20-2007, 07:45 PM
hey if johnson made Ball look decent, he could make any QB look better than they are

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 08:06 PM
If the Buccaneers get Johnson, the Falcons are screwed.

Analog
01-20-2007, 11:17 PM
NFL is different then college. It will take him a few years to adapt to the game and become a dominating WR(if he reaches that level). Most WR take 2-3 years to adapt, usually they don't dominate there first year.(There are a few exceptions though ex. Anquan Boldin)

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 11:33 PM
That is true. I still expect him to have a great year as a rookie.

Analog
01-20-2007, 11:35 PM
I still think it will depend on the team and how they decide to utilize him.

M_Ghey
01-20-2007, 11:47 PM
You are right, the most important part is how you utilize him. He had great numbers at GT, but he wasn't used to even close to full potential. If used right, he should have a good year with any team, imo. Kitna (Detroit Lions QB) had the 4th most passing years in the reg. season, and his team is really bad. So, even if his team goes 5-11, he should still be alright.

M_Ghey
01-21-2007, 06:35 AM
There is no way that the Colts will blow the Pats out. In fact, i think the Pats have a greate rchance of winning, they are more consistent, imo.
