I searched and couldnt find a thread already, so I figured Id start it. Which Final Fantasy is your favorite, from 1 to 10? Mine would have to be seven, just because its the one that got me started on the series, and its still one of the most incredible experiences ive had with a video game my entire life.

I'd have to say eight for the same reason. It's the one that got me started. But ten is a close second. Strangely enough I've never beaten seven, only because it's hard to get a copy of the game nowadays.

I went on a quest for this game about seven months ago. I spent a month a half trying to find a copy, and whenever I would come across one it would be 50+ dollars. Finally, I stumbled upon a EB that was selling the game for 20 bucks. I bought it quickly before they pulled out the hidden camera's and said it was a joke. I got lucky I guess :Domo

My favorite part about any ff is the summons, which is probably why 10 is my favorite... its the only FF based around a summoner and her quest. But every final fantasy is amazing in its own right, i love them all. And you forgot to add 11 and 12... 12 is amazing as well.

None of the above.
Final Fantasy Tactics was my favorite FF. It will always be #1 in my heart.
Final Fantasy 12 is getting up there though, I don't care what people say about boring storyline or whatever. It has a lot of great moments and is extremly addicting, just like all FF games are. lol

I really can't choose. They're all too good. Buuuttt I know 7 isn't my favorite. I think it's over-hyped. It's not THAT good! and I KNOW I'm about to get flamed for saying that xD
I played the Snes ones first so they'll always hold a special spot in my heart.=)
ff5 and ff6 were really good....those were the 2 that initiated the "AWESOME STORY" of FF's. Epic indeed. Heck I'm listening to the ff5 soundtrack right now! xD

Yeah I know what you mean about FF7. True a lot people truly like it and it's their favorites. Then there's the fucking bandwagon of people who don't even know why they're on the wagon and overwhelm the other fan bases with their flames. Sorry. Those people just make me crazy. Which is why I have to say something everytime someone says FF7 is the best, to see if they're a real fan or just some idiot.
Adam uses funny words. :Domo

seeing as I`ve played EVERY single FF I`m going to have to go with FFVIII. I`m going with that one because the story was so damn good and the Characters were very indepth. The Junction system was genius as well but I didn`t like the fact that you could ahve a character with over 5000 Hp at the end of Disk 1. FFVII comes second and thrid would have to be the Original FFIII
Sweeney
01-20-2007, 04:57 PM
^ I loved the Junction system, it allowed for so much customization. My only problem with it was it was indeed cheap at times, and allowed for you to become very powerful very fast. But, the enemies follow your levels, so it evened it out a bit.

Strayed? no it didn't! if anything it went BACK to the way FF's used to be man. it reminded me a lot of the first one for a bunch of reasons...ever play any besides the new ones? or at least before they hit PS1?
Mugen
01-20-2007, 05:51 PM
^ I played ALL of them.......I dunno it was just that the story didn`t even actually have a real main character....It was divided amongst all of the characters but some of their stories were quite dull so that`s why I say that It kind of strayed from the regular FF series
Ethanol
01-20-2007, 05:56 PM
I like it better that it didn't focus on one main character. I find that stupid sometimes that one character is the only character in the whole world that can save it and stop what the crisis is. Its better when you don't imo. I'm actually training all the people now since it helps to have more than just the "Primary 3" trained. I definitly think it is a great game.

I agree....Penelo is a waste of space. LOL Although I shouldn't say that...she somehow was the only one alive after the trickster hunt. But yeah, I don't know if she even had a storyline. Fran had a little bit when you go to her village, but other than that, not much. I think it probably goes:
1. Ashe
2. Balthier
3. Basch
4. Vaan
5. Fran
6. Penelo
in terms of their storyline. At least for me. *shrugs*

I liked the style of the snes games. FFVI was simply gorgeous! The storyline and the characters...amazing! It just doesn't cease to amaze.
Heck, even the world ends half way through the game!
Oh and Kefka from FFVI from is no doubt the best villain of the FF's. Damn crazy motherfucker haha.
Now all you Sephiroth fans are gonna flame me. But Kefka owns him anyway.

That's the same high level people for me. I would of said Balthier(since he's my fav char), but Ashe is involved in too much shit so I put her #1.
I also agree, Kefka was one of the greatest villians ever!!!

A fellow VI fan! Tis a happy day.
After playing I-VIII I would have to say that VI is my favorite by an enourmas amount.
*Warning, Long spoiler filled rant incoming"
The story is what this game really shines in the plot, and the characters themselves, We have a cast of 14 permanently playable characters and over 10 temporarily playable characters. The game contains one of my favorite villians ever, Kefka, who in my eyes is up there with Dio Brando and Souske Aizen all the ultimate villains.
What makes Kefka special is that he is different from most villains because he was not one of the characters who followed the rule that the Major villains only reveal themself at the end of the game and that they are pure evil. Kefka was thrust onto center stage little more than an hour and a half into the game and showed his mental imbalance to a minor degree by laugh while killing an entire city of people.
Kefka is notable for being one of the few villains who was sucessful in his goal and it was he second desire that he could not achive. The characters are all very unique with their own backstories and skills, Terra an Individual with the ability to cast magic is hunted by the empire who wishes to recapture her after an incident with an Esper(Summon). After being join by a Treasure hunter (theif) she joins the rebellion against the empire.
Fastforward to the battle in the mining town of Narshe, Terra and her now large group of allies, including an Imperial General, Celes, who defected to the rebels side fight to defend the frozen Esper. Terra looses control of her powers and flies off leading Celes and friends to great lengths to help her, From traversing a town of thieves to an Opera (one of the most famopus scenes in all of the Final Fantasy series). The plot builds until Kefka aquires the power of the very beings who created magic and reshapes the face of the planet itself, destroying several towns including the empire itself and building a tower to destroy all who oppose him.
A comoatose Celes wakes up and re-unites the group, after many side quests which deeply develop the characters, and head to the tower to stop Kefka. Kefka greets the party, having developed a new point of view about life ("Why do people rebuild things they know are going to be destroyed? Why do people cling to life when they know they can't live forever? Think how meaningless each of your lives is!").
The party enters the final battle, which has four stages, each one an acension to a higher plane (From the underworld, to the mortal relm to Heaven and the domain of God/Kefka). The game ends, with Kefka being destroyed all of magic ceases to exist and the world is finally in a state to start rebuilding itself.
For those of you that have not played this, I would highly recommend it, no If you call yourself a fan of Final Fantasy or Rpgs and have not played this game, you don't know what you are missing. Luckily it is being re-released for the game boy advance in North America of the 5th of Febuary.
This is just something I noticed.

I would like to note, that Final Fantasy IV had a summoner who was of vital importance to the plot, and not to mention that the Game Boy Advance remakes bonus dungeaon contains dark versions of the Summons as bosses and boss forms of the main summons the character uses.
More notably In VI the Terra, is half esper, born of a union between man and esper

My favorite is Final Fantasy IX. It's simply excellent, and is very underrated. The story was a masterpiece, full of emotions and quirks. The design of the areas was done very well, and had a truly adventurous feel.

Second greatest would have to be FF3j. I can't stand the watered-down DS remake. Games are supposed to be difficult, not something you can waltz through in a day!

FFXII got the most Cinematic story and plot, for plot and how its told FFXII earns points, yet corse of the lack in Visuel skills its not a favorit for gameplay.(Talking about the attacks looking to blant)
FFX had the best Summon type.

I love FFX. It's my favorite, as it was the first one I played and the only one I could bring myself to finish. My copy of FFVII broke, although it was good, and FFXII I thought flat-out sucked and is extremely overrated (my opinion, so don't flame unless you can give a reason it didn't). FFX had awesome summons and plot and Sin and Seymour made damn-cool villains. 12 had the worst combat out of any FF. You either had a hard time scrolling through the menus, or you used Gambits and made your characters retard zombies (Asch: "Well, I'm getting beaten to death, but Curaga is 2nd Gambit, so I better attack first!") Once again, my opinion. FFX rocks! Tactics was sweet too, although it's not on the list.

My favorite would have to be IX as I found it the most enjoyable as every character have different specialty's like Vivi is black magic and zadaine is thieving. I thought at times during VII my eyes were going to bleed, I found VIII was too easy with the junction system and I never really got the sphere grid in X. I was too short, II was annoying, I haven't played three to comment on it, IV was soo hard I could not complete it and I haven't played V or VI.
FF 7, 8 & 10 are my favs <3

It is really hard to choose between 7 and 10 as i love them both. each had great storys and the graphics where great for their times. If i had to choose i would have to say 10 because i played that one first but both where great games

I have a hard time choosing between Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X. I pick FF8 because I try not to let the sexful graphics sway my judgement and I love the FF8 characters.
I loved FF8 and always have. I consider it to be a great game and the best Final Fantasy game and i've always enjoyed replaying it time after time.

I love all FF games
but 7 would have to be my favourite, closely followed by 9 and 10

i've played VII to XII and i can safely say that, although i reckon VII is the best, my favourite is IX
i've decided to do a review of these games to show why: SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FINAL FANTASY VII
PLOT & CHARACTERS: the plot itself of VII is actually one of the weaker points, as much of the first disc and some of the second is spent chasing sephiroth until his true motives are discovered. however, to make up for this, there are the major shocks, such as the death of aeris, and sephiroth butchering shinra hq. however, it is the depth of the story which makes it so good. after five plays fully completing it i think i finally understood the back story behind cloud being a 'clone' of sephiroth, and i'd seen how everyone else's story (ie vincent, shinra, jenova) actually fitted in to the bigger picture, and how the events of five years ago in nibelheim are the basis of the entire game. the characters are brilliant. cloud is the moody guy with the ridiculously big sword who has the strange connection with sephiroth, nearly died five years ago and assumed the identity of his former best friend, sephiroth is the best result of the jenova warrior project with another ridiculously big sword, but went mad when realising the truth of his birth. the other party characters, excluding aeris and tifa, have minor roles but all contribute in one way or another. all of the bad guys are very evil, and sephiroth is the coolest bad guy ever. 10/10
GAMEPLAY: the hardest FF i've played, where some bosses are damn near impossible. the materia system is simple, easy to use, but very effective. the only minor quirk is that there are nine characters, but only 3 are usable in battle. like any ff, the battle gameplay is brilliant, but i didn't like there being a button needed for running 9/10
GRAPHICS: it was made ten years ago, so the crappy character graphics are almost forgivable. however, the characters in battle are done very well, the backgrounds are brilliantly grimy, and the cut scenes are as brilliant as ever 8/10
EXTRAS: lots of stuff, such as the ultimate weapon and limit for each character. there are a couple of new areas, suh as the sunken ship and the forest place, but the most famous extra is the Weapon super-bosses, that keep ya playing for ages. 10/10
OVERALL: 10/10
FINAL FANTASY VIII (i played this a long time ago, so i can't remember all of it)
PLOT & CHARACTERS: oh dear. i ahted this plot. it seemed to have a lot of potential, with the garden versus that evil army, with the sorceress (why call her a sorceress? it sounds so shit) as the badass leader. problem is, the first two discs are spent going for her, and then, when she gets defeated at the end of disc 2 (after that brilliant battle), all of a sudden 2 new sorceresses come out of nowhere and suddenly they're the bad guys, and the evil army goes almost completly out of the story. then, there's the space trip and the lunatic pandora thing, which to me seemed pointless beyond belief, and then all of a sudden you're off to the future to meet the final boss for the first bloody time, find out she says everything with a k for no reason, and that's it. the chracters aren't any better. ultimecia is an unknown entity with no reasons behind her intentions (whereas spehiroth was a pissed off lunatic who believed he was the rightful ruler of the world), and the other sorceresses are pretty unknown as well. as for the party characters, i can only remember squall and rinoa, coz the others were so shallow, so pointless and boring. squall is even moodier than cloud, without much reason for it, with very little back story (i can't remember what rinoa's story was except she was magic or something). in fact, the only character that had depth was the guy in squall's dreams, who, if i remember rightly, was only there to introduce another character who would eventually bump into them. the only bits where i thought the story was good, was the garden battle in disc 2, and when squall suddenly decided he was in love with rinoa (out of the blue) and tried single-handedly to save her). somehow they managed to spread it over 4 discs 4/10
GAMEPLAY: WHY?????? at first, it seemed good again: instead of mp, you draw magics and gfs away from enemies, and then use them or equip them to boost your attributes. but then it hits you: if you use magic that's been junctioned, your stats go down, so that magic can never be used unless it can be quickly replaced. also, this business of junctioning the gfs to junction your magic wazs so complex, that i only fully understood it halfway through disc 3. apart from that, the battles were engaging, the gfs being a good idea, if overlong(especially the last one), and the field commads were simple. although each character had only one weapon, it seemed as though the gunbalde was the only effective one (and the only cool one) 7/10
GRAPHICS: naturally, a great improvement from VII, with characters actually having facial features and being to communicate more emotion, and the gfs and cut-scenes looke stunning. however, it looked at times like they tried too hard, and as a result some of the quality of the characters in the field was compromised. ultimecia's castle looked fantastic, though 9/10
EXTRAS: can't remember much, except the secret with bahamut and that big boss was brilliant, and omega was a tricky fight. 9/10
OVERALL: 6/10
FINAL FANTASY IX
PLOT: this plot is pure perfection; a truly epic ff plot that is a million times better than anything else, and it keeps you fully engaged all through the 4 discs. what makes it so good, is how the story is constantly progressing, and there is no one, constant plot line to follow (except the 2nd half of disc 2, where they try and find kuja). the brilliant thing is, it strats off with a band of thieves trying to kidnap a princess but after, you learn that the queen is going mad and attacking other kingdoms, and then she destroys cleyra and burmecia, and then it turns out she is being warped by kuja, who in the end kills her, and then it turns out kuja has much darker motives.... and then you end up having to save the entire universe. the best disc plotwise is the third, where you uncover kuja's real motives, and learn of the dying planet terra, with its plot to assimilate gaia in order to keep itself alive. that's the beauty of it: the plot keeps at a perfect pace, so that the revelation of terra is not a sudden impact, but none of the other parts ever get slow. along with the main plot, many of the other characters have significant sub-plots and many play a huge part in the story: garnet aka dagger, struggles to cope with life outside her home, and the reality that her mother is being twisted to evil; vivi searches for thruth of his birth, and tries to come to terms with death; steiner is the loyal knight who must realise that his loyalties can't always be with his queen. however, it is zidane and kuja's intertwining storyline that is the main highlight, with an amazing moment at the end of dsic 3 that was just stunning. kuja, while not immediately threatening, gets more developed in disc 3, as his role in terra's plot along with zidane gets revealed, and, as with sephiroth, in the end he gest pissed off and lows up a lot of stuff. 10/10
GAMEPLAY: apart from the evil forest, the black waltzes and the final bosses, this is probably the easiest of the ff's, but it manages to not be so easy that you can walk it. the equip system is at its simplest, with an ingenious way of making characters learn abilities using their weapons. the best thing, is that, for once, each character ha\s their own personal traits, such as vivi: black mage, zidane: thief, garnet: white mage/summoner, which i like much better than 'customisable' characters. another great point is that at no point does magic become obselete, and vivi is still one of the most effective characters, even at the end 9/10
GRAPHICS: beautiful. it's gone back to meideval settings, and each area is very different, but are astonishing to look at. the cut scenes are spectacular (see the opening film) and the characters have been giving a cartoony look, which refelcts the light-hearted tone of the game 10/10
EXTRAS: Not massive amounts, but the chocobo hot and cold is addictive, ozma is a very difficult superboss and there are some other little things to find, such as ultimate weapons and the stellazio coins 9/10
OVERALL: 10/10
FINAL FANTASY X
PLOT & CHARACTERS: good plot, brilliant characters. the plot is perhaps a bit too simple and narrow, but it is still engaging, with a few sub-plots chucked in (seymour and operation mi'ihen). after the revelation that yuna will die, it steps up a gear, with the rescue from bevelle, and yuna and tidus' love story. the plot reaches a great climax with the death of yunalesca, and it has a brilliantly emotional ending with tidus' own revelation. admittedly, the first couple of hours (expect the 1st 15 minutes) are quite dull, but it soon picks up as you leave besaid. there are 2 main characters, tidus and yuna, which keeps the plot going from 2 different points of view, and the other party characters are also a main part of the story, as they all have their own stories while focusing on helping yuna achieve her own goal. seymour and sin make good bad guys, especially the former, who appears a number of times.8/10
GAMEPLAY: a new system, and it works perfectly. it allows easy battles to be over very quickly, and the hard battles can take as long as you want without getting tired. again, the characters have their own personal traits, until you decide to complete the sphere grid. the turn-based system is very clever, and allows you to plan out moves without rushing it. the only problem is that the fiends aren't very challenging, with the majority being one-hit kills. 9/10
GRAPHICS: The best thing on the ps2. ever. 10/10
EXTRAS: Millions. let's see... the monster arena, the chocobos, the extra aeons, the ultimate weapons, the omega dungeon, omega weapon superboss, the dark aeon megabosses and the penance uber boss- the hardest fight ever which i still haven't defeated after over 160 hours gameplay. that speacks for itself, i reckon 10/10

Ive always been a fan of FF6. It's one of the very few times that we get a bad guy who doesn't care what he's doing. He's probably one of the more sadistic bad guys out there. The other favorite of mine would have to be FF9. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I liked going back to the 'old school' games with it.
